Great location, excellent view, well equipped kitchen, and some very pleasant extra amenities. But the place is very poorly maintained. Rust and corrosion everywhere. Mold in window tracks. The shade on the balcony didn't work - rusted. The warming plate on the coffee maker had a thick layer of rust. Chrome kitchen and bathroom fixtures pitted with corrosion. Little rust spots almost everywhere you looked.Clean? Well maybe. But it certainly didn't look like it.

Nice cozy condo with good size bedroom, shower, fully stocked kitchen, clean and most importantly Fantastic View and Sound! Lulled us to sleep. Also the location to the restaurant district is ideal, just 5 minutes away. We loved this place.

Lovely condo located right next to the ocean and Kailua town. We loved Tanga watching as well as cruise ships, canoe teams, and even eels. We walked to Huggo’s and enjoyed an amazing dinner and 8 inch tall Hula pie.

The unit is clean and well supplied. The location, just off the main road is quiet and makes for an easy walk to town, shopping, restaurants or the beach. The balcony is above the pool and overlooks a popular surfing spot. I would recommend it to friends and would book it again when we return.

The property was beautiful. The decor was gorgeous and very fitting for the location. The special touches for our 40th anniversary was deeply appreciated. We enjoyed the chilled glasses with the Champaign while wearing our leis. The fresh fruit and treats were delicious, especially for our first night. The view was breath taking. We saw several turtles every day, along with a variety of so many fish! We loved every moment. Thank you!

The location and view were the primary reasons we booked this place. Inside, the interior felt dated but overall fine. There are portable AC units for each room that keep the rooms cool enough if needed but they are very loud. There were smart TVs that connected to our streaming services so that was nice. The kitchen was adequately stocked, although only seasoning was salt/pepper. Some oil is in the cabinets. The closet has tons of camping chairs, 1 beach chair, large cooler, fins, snorkel gear, and 1 broken umbrella (which we didn't know was broken until we got to the beach!) There are a LOT of gnats that come into the unit at night that are attracted by the lights. We didn't know where they came from and was told that they are just a fact of life in that unit and there wasn't much you could do except sweep them away yourself. There were so many gnats one night we had to use the vacuum to try to suction them away, but as we were running both the AC units and the vacuum at the same time the circuit breaker tripped and we had to call property management to tell us where the breaker was. As long as you are ok with some bugs at night then its nice to cook breakfast and eat out on the balcony that is right next to the water.

While the property itself is older, this unit has everything needed for a lovely stay. Pool/ocean toys/chairs were great, well-stocked kitchen, fluffy towels, and even the paper towels and toilet paper were much nicer than average. RIGHT on the water, so falling asleep to the sound of waves was perfect! It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset.

The condo was very comfortable in every way. We had a very nice side view of the ocean. The condo was supplied with everything you could possibly need or want. Laundryroom was just steps out the door. Great location in Kona! Taina in the office is super friendly, nice and helpful! Wish there was something they could do with the loudly whistling frogs outside at night. Bring earplugs! Its not so loud if you keep all the windows shut.We would stay jere again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there in Kona. Our unit had a fabulous view of the ocean onto two sides. We loved throwing open the doors and listening to the sound of the water day and night. The kitchen had all the amenities you could need. There was adequate space for both of us.

The location and view is amazing. 5 minute walk to restaurants and shops. Coffee on the balcony in the morning watching the yellow tang feast below in the ocean was a great start of each day with beautiful sunsets ending our afternoons. Convenient parking, fully stocked kitchen, snorkel gear, beach chairs and cooler available for guests. Highly recommend!

This is our fourth visit to this property. My husband and I love the oceanfront lanai and that the bedroom also is on the ocean side so we can hear the ocean all night with the window open. Very conveniently located to walk to restaurants and stores in Kona. The assigned parking space at the property is also ideal for us. Looking forward to our next visit!

We enjoyed the place a lot. It has a view that is amazing, we enjoyed sitting and watching the waves, the fish and the turtles. Everyday we saw turtles below our room and one was very large and we now call him big Eddy. The pool was nice and never crowded. The location was nice especially if you wanted to walk to the shops and good food close by.

Property was clean and organized. View from lanai was very good for sunsets. Room has a/c which was a plus. The mattress was new and very comfortable. The bathroom and sink area is small but functional. Laundry was in a separate area which requires quarters to operate. Was very close to downtown Kailua village.

Property was as represented. Good laundry facilities on floor. Bathroom is microscopically small which you can’t really tell from the listing. It was functional but fairly annoying for a long stay. AC works but is erratic. It would go from warm to cold without us ever adjusting the temps ourselves. The lanai is worth it all though. The views could not be beat!

This is a very comfortable and well equipped condo. We spent hours on the balcony, especially since the swell was up and the waves were powerful. Saw surfers everyday as well as turtles and spinner dolphins.

The view from the balcony is absolutely breathtaking. Kitchen area is great.There are two window vented air conditioning units that can help keep the rooms cool, but there is no central air conitioning. Ceiling fans in the bathroom and living room are helpful for ventilation. Propert manager was very responsive and help when contacted.

PRO: Couldn’t get more “ocean front”. A short walk into Kona town. CON: Needs some love. Shower door wouldn’t move, which according to previous reviews was reported as an issue 6 months prior. There was a strong smell of chemical bug spray.

Nice, clean, great views and location. Plenty towels and hot water. We play tennis at Royal Kona Resort. Samsung tv nice. Linens nice.
Could use a clock, usb ports in some electrical outlets. Front door sticks bad. Hard to find quarters for laundry, a change machine or credit card system would be desirable. Instructions to operate tv in bedroom would be nice. A blender would be nice. Never heard from manager.

This is an amazing condo. From the moment we walked into this unit, we were impressed at how CLEAN everything was. There was not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. The towels, pillows, coffee maker, etc. appeared to be brand new and there was ample kitchen gear for anything we wanted to prepare. The furnishings were great with a comfortable couch and bed and there was beach gear available in the unit. We loved the stunning view and beautiful sunsets. Thank you for a lovely stay.

DO NOT rent this property unless you want to be severely disappointed.My wife and I have rented many properties through VRBO with very positive experiences. Unfortunately, our experience with this property was indescribable.When we arrived we noticed immediately that it was a rundown property. When we entered the the condo we where hit with a horrible musty, moldy odor. The condo was filthy. Two noisy portable air conditioners were in place and not really cooling the condo. The photos displayed on the website must have been taken several years ago as everything was very worn out.I immediately called the property manager and left a very detailed voice mail about our displeasure with the property. Being discouraged and upset we left the property and booked a room at a local hotel for the evening.Early the next morning I received a call from the property manager. He explained that the air conditioning had been out of order for the past 2 months (why didn’t they contact us about this before our arrival?). I again expressed our complete displeasure with the property and requested a full refund.I will say that the property manager was very professional and understanding of the situation and immediately issued the full refund.Fortunately my wife and I were able to book another VRBO property for same day arrival and we had a wonderful experience in Hawaii for the remainder of our stay.Mark and June G.

We've stayed here several times before. You just can't beat the location. Being so close to Kona allowed us to not have to worry about parking because we could easily walk to anywhere on Ali'i. Ample restaurants and shops and a farmers market with fresh fruits made it very convenient. All in all, a great two weeks!

Worked out good for us. Location is convenient and had the things we needed. The cental air wasnt working not working but they had a window unit for the bedroom. The bed was a uneven and a bit weird but slept well. Would come back again.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Hale Kona Kai and it was wonderful. This was not a vacation trip this time around but was for family business. It was great to have a place like this to wind down at the end of the day and enjoy the view. I will certainly book here again and would recommend it to anyone who wants a great view and a location that can't be beat.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. Each morning and night we enjoyed our meals on the lanai watching the waves and sunsets. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed for cooking and there was an ample amount of bath towels. We appreciated the styrofoam cooler which we filled with drinks on our travels
to the other side of the island. We're golfers, not beach goers, but noticed an array if beach items available.
Now for the but...there are roaches! First there one or two little ones we would see in the kitchen. Then we found them in the bathroom, too.

What an Absolutely Amazing place to stay! The view itself is the best there is, you get the most amazing sunsets. The best part is that you are within walking distance of some of the best restaurants around. The property is well furnished and has everything you will need while you are there, including air fryer and blender. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, in many rentals it is either too soft or hard as rock. What a wonderful place to stay!

We’ve stayed here multiple times because it’s easy walking distance to the tourist part of Alli’i Drive. It’s also right on the water and the views are completely unobstructed. It’s an older property, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. That doesn’t bother us at all, and we’ll continue to stay here.

Communication prior to arrival was excellent. Unit parking was convenient, easy to find. Unit was clean when we arrived. Nice one bedroom arrangement with lanai for enjoying views of water and sunset. Beach equipment included except snorkel mask and snorkel (there were some fins), but these were easily purchased for personal use. AC was out in condo, however mgmt offered portable AC ahead of our arrival. We found the unit very comfortable at night with windows open for breeze and didn't miss the AC! Laundry is not in unit - rather in common room on every floor. We did use pool, laundry, or BBQ.

Such a great find! Will definitely try to request this unit If I ever visit Kona. Spacious for 2 guests, clean, all amenities plus extra! Surprisingly quiet, stayed during spring break. Would highly recommend!
