What a fantastic property! This was our first year without our adult children for Thanksgiving and our first extended stay on the “Big Island”! It was a much needed rest from our crazy worlds. We loved the Lāna’i in the mornings and evenings (look for all the fish & turtles), the walking distance to downtown (we never ate at the same place twice), and the central location to either explore north or south. We even got to see Kilauea active lava flow before episode 37.

This condo and management are great. They are updating the A/C and notified us they put portable units in each condo bedroom while working on the ac which I appreciated during sleep. They still were waiting on parts but communicated all updates through email. The sound of the ocean waves can be heard from the bedroom and Lanai, the Lagoon next door was great to wade in or snorkel. The condo was very clean and art deco nice. Coffee and cookies were waiting upon our arrival. The kitchen and bathroom had all necessary supplies, cooking dishes, utensils and anything needed. My only negative would be the musty smell, just sprayed a little air freshener. The washer & dryer are outside on the same floor, 2.00 each load to wash and to dry. The farmers mkt and Kona shopping village are within walking distance. Pool very clean and refreshing. Been to several vrbo’s, you can tell this management company takes pride and care here. I would stay here again.

Bottom line up front: for 2 people, we'd strongly consider staying here, again. The ocean view was fantastic and the location very good to shops and such. The central AC in this unit didn't work, but they provided two portable units that were adequate. The bathroom door is a bit hard to close if you are fairly large in size. The host provided a very nice starter kit of fruits and coffee, giving you some time to plan your days. Did I mention the view was fantastic?

I was so thoroughly immediately impressed with this condo as soon as I opened the door. What unbelievable views!!!! From the lanai off of the living room and from the bedroom windows! Honestly, as soon as you open the front door, the view takes your breath away. They did a phenomenal job on the remodel. Everything you need. and more is provided. High quality beach items are available. The pool area has breathtaking views and the pool is extremely clean. I will definitely stay here again and I've already recommended this condo to family and friends.

I'll start with the pros--Obviously the location, you're basically on top of the water which is perfection. Easy walk to restaurants, bars, abc stores etc. The condo was clean upon arrival, well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Cons--listing says central air. There is not central air, it looks like at one point there was, but it's disconnected and they have 2 portable units,1 in the living area and 1 in the bedroom. There was no communication from the prop mgmt about this. The units seem to be new, they do make noise so if you want to turn on the tv at night, between the waves crashing and the ac unit blowing is hard to hear.You can't lock the slider due to this set up and the plug for the microwave is used for the ac. The guy upstairs, he stomps non stop day and night. We come and go all day, some days we'regone all day but no matter what time we get up or come back he's up there literally stomping from one end of his unit to the other. I understand this is a multi floor condo, but it's not only excessive as these units are tiny, it seems purposeful. I'm not sure if he's a full time resident and doesn't like vrbo renters or what but I actually went up on our last night at 915 to ask him to stop stomping. He smiled and said ok, seems like he knows what he's doing and today as we're packing its the same as every day. The bed needs new pillows and the mattress covered washed or replaced. A high top table on the lanai would improve it as you would be able to see over the railin

Condo is nice,with a great view, BUT...the central air system in the complex was down for repairs, which we were only notified of after arrival. They provided a portable unit, but that only cooled the bedroom, while leaving the living room/kitchen at 78 degrees. Another big problem was no way to reach help in the evening when we locked ourselves out. We had to hire a locksmith to get back in to the unit, for 380! The next day we were notified about an emergency lockbox we could have used, if only we knew the night before!

The condo was clean, comfortable, and nicely updated. We appreciated having snorkel equipment, beach chairs and an umbrella available. Being able to walk to local restaurants was an added bonus. We definitely recommend this condo for a visit to Kona!

The view is incredible and has a GREAT patio with various seating options. The bed is fine, they have LOTS to do in the condo itself (games, books, beach toys), but the location is the real star. It is close enough to walk to shopping, but not quite in the middle of any loud bars or hotels, so it's quiet. I can't say "the view is incredible" enough, so the view is incredible!

The property itself is great. This is the 4th time we've stayed (or tried to stay) in this complex. We rely heavily on A/C and didn't know/weren't told that the A/C for the whole building went out about a week before we got there. There was no note in the unit and we got in after a long travel day to a hot, stuffy condo. FORTUNATELY, we found an office person still on the grounds (who wasn't there officially) who enlightened us and tried hard to help with our first night. She also alerted the manager who was in almost immediate contact the next morning. We moved properties to something completely different but with A/C.Disappointed to lose the first 24 hrs of our stay with this problem solving but a very acceptable alternative was provided. We'd stay at this very condo in the future once the building A/C system is dependable. (They're working on it. It has a new system but it needs some parts.)

This was a great location to walk the downtown. Also being just south allowed us to move about when kona closed down for ironman needs. I will say the view is lovely but you do face slightly sw so no sunset from lani. But that just means heading to the pool the sunset. Not a back option. Would definitely stay at this property again

This place has great location, all walking distance to restaurants and shopping, and also close to the beach. The problem is, the A/C unit shut down before we get there. Although the management provided a stand alone small A/C unit for the bedroom, yet it's still very hot in the living room area. On top of that, the little unit was very loud, it took us 2 nights to get use to the noise, but it almost time to move out the condo. Very disappointed .

This was a lovely one-bedroom. The kitchen was well equiped and clean. Garbage and recycling was close. The lanai had a great view of the water, pool, and the cruise ships. The property manager commuicated from the time of my reservation and brought us a second beach chair when I reached out. Overall, I would definitely recommend this property.

No AC as chiller broke. Informed us of this issue the bite before our departure. Did provide floor ac units. I asked for compensation for this issue & was given 174.00 for a 14 nite stay. Not much for such an inconvenience. The filter in the ceiling was so nasty & needed replacing. Would definitely not stay here again. Area is way too noisy.

Disappointed unfortunately. We were not told up front of the issues of this unit. A sliding door to our ocean view wouldn't open from corrosion, portable loud AC's because central air was broken and a shower door that wouldn't open or close. Unit felt dated and not clean. Future guests deserve better, and problems of this magnitude should be disclosed up front. Our issues were not resolved with Casago management during our stay and disheartening when expectations are not met. A positive note it's locally perfect for walking to the town of Kona and experience the shops and being on the ocean. Condo has a beautiful balcony, which was really the highlight. This is an older building, which was noticeable in some areas. The portable air conditioning worked well, but the installation allowed a lot of outside sounds. Perfectly located for walks into town to go to restaurants and shops. Had wonderful views of sunsets and surfing.

We love staying at Hale Kona Kai, and have done so for many years, including in this same unit about ten or so years ago. I was a little disappointed in the lack of updates made in that time, but the condo was sufficient for our needs, and made up for it in proximity to the things we like to do. I would suggest replacing the dishwasher, and maybe repainting. The refrigerator and stove are fine and I really appreciated the working ice maker. The flooring looks great, but there are a lot of places that need repair where the baseboards attach. When we arrived, there was a distinct mustiness that was difficult to dispel. We purchased a couple of candles and a lighter which helped, but didn't alleviate the problem. We left them in the unit when we returned home. Probably the worst offender was the air conditioning unit. It was out of order for one day, which we were notified about, but even when it was supposedly fixed, it did not work well. The portable A/C in the bedroom was the only way we were able to sleep, and even with that and the ceiling fan, the room wasn't really cool enough for this post menopausal woman. Fortunately, we like to be out and about in the day, so other than a couple of days that I was feeling unwell, we were able to avoid being in the too hot condo.

Although the unit may be a little outdated, it was very clean and comfortable. We exceptionally liked the view and hearing the ocean waves. The short walk into town was so convenient. There is a small lagoon right next where we were able to sit and relax and enjoy the sun. I would definitely stay here again. Communication was fantastic and any questions were answered quickly.

The condo, location (that’s why we keep coming back!) is awesome. My ONLY complaint is that the floors were filthy. When my 7 month old visited from another condo the tops of her feet, hands, and knees were quite literally black (she’s crawling). We never wear shoes inside any house, and certainly not in someone else’s. Otherwise zero complaints, it was beyond our expectations. Keep in mind the filthy floors are no fault of the owner’s neglect, it’s the housekeepers fault.

Overall this is a very nice unit overlooking the ocean, and is within walking distance of Ali'i drive where there are lots of shops and dining options. Check-in and location instructions were easy to follow. I would stay again at this unit.

Happily surprised at the supplies they provided, including laundry pods!And though we didn't use any, there were lots of ocean/pool "toys", for those who like to pack light.My husband and I would definitely stay in this location again!

The last three days I got 4 or 5 bite after I got up 2 different mornings. My sister got one on Saturday. Mine were Sunday and Tuesday.Other than that things were pretty nice. I thought we would be closer to the shop at the north end but it would of been a long walk . We had to drive to all places.
