The positives: This was the only place we stayed this visit that we didn't see cockroaches in the kitchen! The AC unit worked very well, and cooled it off immediately.They had a lot of nice stuff we could use, snorkel gear, cooler, chairs, umbrella. They had extra blow up mattress and bedding for our 5th guestNegatives:The spiral staircase was not convenient to carry luggage to the loft, the upper unit sleepers ended up leaving all their luggage in the main bedroom and changing in there. Its on the 3rd floor with no elevator, not a big deal, but it was tricky getting all of our gear and groceries in and out when we arrived and left.The previous renters left all the dishes disgusting! There were eggs in the pans put away in the cupboards etc. We had to rewash everything before we could use anything (no dishwasher). Totally not the fault of the management company, but really gross!There are SO MANY rules! Wasn't a big deal, because we didn't need to break any, but when you're walking around the property you are being watched like a hawk!

Second time at this complex. This unit was vastly superior to the one we stayed at last year. Biggest difference was comfort of furniture and a much better equipped kitchen. Kitchen wasn’t gourmet but had an everything needed and in good quantity!
Ample amount of towels too.
I have stayed in probably 15-20 vacation rentals and it was the best kitchen furnishings I have experienced.
The Kona Makai complex is extremely well manicured and cared for.
It is quiet, clean and well furnished with pool/patio furniture and ample parking.
Pool was clean and comfortable temp as was hot tub.
View from the point west of the pool is soooo nice.
Can’t say enough good things about this complex and I felt this particular unit was great value.
Hope to return in the future. Knutson and Associates was property manager for this particular unit and they were great to work with!

We stayed for 8 nights and this was a great place to stay. Great jumping off location to go north, south or east. Easy to navigate to and from a number of places on the island, easy parking, and very clean, well appointed condo. Jeanette was fabulous for answering questions as well. Property has quite a few “rules” but we had no issues with any of them, and everyone around us was super respectful. Community BBQs are great to use at sunset as well! I would highly recommend and hope one day to be back! Mahalo and Merry Christmas!

It was not completely glued down make some of the edges sharp. A metal strip between the tile and laminate was not secure. View was great and property management was great.

It really should be 5 stars if it weren't for the sofa and the bed sheet. The bed sheet was thick and rough. And the sofa literally felt like a jean jacket. Also the dish rack was rusty so couldn't really use any of the provided dinnerware.

The furniture in this unit is super comfortable with a recliner and comfy couch, not your typical wicker seating. The kitchen was well-equipped including some spices, condiments, and even popcorn. The only complaint would be that the unit air conditioners struggled to keep unit cool (especially in living room), but that is not a deal breaker. Also, location of unit was great. Close enough to see the ocean but not overlooking the pool. Also, the balcony on this unit had shade pretty much all the time, which made is super useable.

This condo was perfect for our 10 day stay with two teens. A quiet building with beautiful ocean views. The condo was very clean had everything we could have needed including beach chairs, snorkel gear, tennis rackets, boogie boards, cooler, beach umbrella, plus a kitchen with everything we needed. We also used the tennis courts and pool a few times which were all clean and very well maintained. The location was a quick 5 minute drive to all the shops and restaurants but far enough away that we didn't have to deal with the noise/downtown clientele. Highly recommend this condo!!!

Claudia was able to accommodate our request for a late check out at no additional cost (thank you!), so we washed all the bedding and towels before leaving to help her cleaner out. We’ve travelled to Maui & Kauai many times and for the price, this is the nicest unit with the best location that we’ve stayed at. We will definitely stay in Claudia’s unit again and highly recommend it!

My husband and I stayed at the condo for my birthday weekend and it was by far the best condo and experience we've had with a vacation rental! The room was beautiful, good size, and tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable, we slept like babies every night. The shower has great water pressure as well which is important for us. You'll want to spend hours outside on the patio soaking in the beautiful views.
We were surprised at how quiet and peaceful it was despite being around multiples condos. It is a peaceful spot for those wanting to retreat. Nothing, and I mean nothing beats the insane ocean views by the pool and hot tub area, we stayed there all day!! The condo is close to restaurants, target, walmart etc...
Communication was great with guest services, they took care of everything that came up and were quick to respond. You will definitely be in good hands. Super happy with our stay, highly recommend!!

This was our fifth October stay at Kona Makai and the fourth in a different unit. This unit has the nicest decor, large screen TVs in both the living and bedrooms, strong WiFi, tiled floor throughout including on both lanais, ceiling fans in all living areas, the best one being above the main lanai where we spent most of our time, AC units in both the living area and main bedroom, neither of which we needed to use due to a good flow of air through the unit entrance and lanai(s) doors and the windows above the loft, and all the necessary kitchen items one might need. The only appliance missing was an oven should an occupant need one. The only shortcomings (2) we felt were the lanai seating which has a set of 4 high bar chairs with accompanying high table. The chairs were difficult to get in and out of and were very uncomfortable. The other was the small washing machine which limited how much could be washed so required multiple washes. Other than that, the unit's north facing location is the best as the sun doesn't shine on the lanai allowing one to stay somewhat cool on 80 degree plus days. Another benefit is the palm tree next to the south facing lanai which provides some privacy from the Sea Cliff neighbors. Still the best unit we have stayed in at Kona Makai and the best loft unit.

This condo unit was excellent in so many ways. The unit was very clean and had everything and more than we expected. The kitchen was supplied with all the kitchen tools and supplies that you could want; the bathroom was perfect; and the unit had a lot of things for the beach such as towels, snorkels (no flippers but we rented), masks, beach umbrella, etc.
The unit itself is in a quiet complex and it has a beautiful partial ocean view. Access to the many BBQ's was very much appreciated and we used them several times.
I have stayed in several condos throughout the Hawaiian islands and this is one of my favorites!

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this property. The view from the back door and lanai were spectacular. We enjoyed the pool and barbecue area as well as the opportunity to clamber on the lave rock at water’s edge. The gardens throughout the complex were beautiful and very well-kept! The condo was very well furnished and had everything we needed with a couple of exceptions. The shampoo, conditioner and soap were scanty - barely enough for one shower each. We also would have appreciated not having to replenish toilet paper and Kleenex so early in our stay. Other than that, we were very comfortable and would rent this unit again

Can't say enough great things about this wonderful property. Everything you could possibly need for your vacation is located in this condo. The best equipped kitchen we have ever had during our travels.
The condo is exactly as presented in the photos and seemed even more spacious in person. The location is very quiet and the grounds, pool and hot tub are maintained to high standards. Our favourite thing to do was watch the sunsets in the evenings listening to the waves crash in. The onsite BBQ's were very handy.
Everything you need for a day at the beach is available for use. Parking is easy and location is walkable into town if needed.
Communication with the owners was great, they are very responsive. Everything is so well laid out that we didn't even need to contact them however they did check in with us during our stay to confirm everything was going well. They are extremely accommodating and we would definitely book our stays her again in the future.

AC broke. Well, we arrived and it never got cool so I'm going to say it never worked. We slept one sweaty night and realized we could text someone about the issue. They got right back to us and we had new AC units by that afternoon in the bedroom and also in the living room. The rest of the stay was very comfortable and I was so grateful someone got back to us and resolved the issue. This is what I'll remember. But also, everything was nice, clean, and comfortable :)

We are so lucky to have been able to book this cute yet spacious apartment space on the Kona side. Check in was a breeze (tons of parking available) and the owner was fast at replying to any questions that I had. From the theme of the decor to the endless supply of utensils and water sport/beach supplies, we could tell that a lot of love and effort has been put into the place. Super close to the downtown Kona area. The sunset views from the shared space near the water were a cherry on top. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

Rob & Darlene were amazing hosts who provided my friend and I with the perfect oasis to escape from work and rest. The location is right by downtown Kona, but just enough away to be quiet, with amazing views, especially by the pool area.
Cannot say enough good things about this place and we hope to return!

Absolutely gorgeous condo and surrounding area. Seeing the ocean from the bedroom and going to sleep with the sound of waves crashing was magical. The flowers and their scents around the property only added to the perfection of this place. And the incredibly beautiful shower was a vacation in and of itself! Wonderful location for visiting the highlights of Kona.

We would stay here at the Kona Makai again. Many ammenities at this location were excelent.
The condo was clean and modern.
It had all the cooking and dining utensils you would ever want.
The grounds were perfectly manicured
Nice pool area with gas barbecue
A great area near the pool to sit and watch amazing sunsets with waves breaking near your feet.
A well equipped workout area.
Very quiet and peaceful (I think there are mostly full-time tenants with a few rental condos)
Exceptional views from both lanis.
A spacious loft with a queen sized bed and a desk area.
A nice bedroom with a king sized bed
and finally, the bathroom that was modern with a nice shower.
Cons:
It is a bit of a walk to resteraunts and shopping. We are seniors and it is a walk up three floors to the condo. We considdered the trade off of a higher floor totally worth it for the view.
We would have rented a car when we arrived in Kona if we had known the amount if walking we would be doing. To be fair there is a very nice trolly system to get around but the times we could grab it never seemed to line up with what we were doing. Uber did not show twice.
Also, there is so much beauty within driving distance. We went back to the airport and rented a car eventually and I recomend doing that.
I only gave communication with management 4 stars because we had no real contact with them. This was fine with us because they really covered all the bases perfectly and there were no problems.

The Kona Makai is a beautiful property. The ocean views from this particular unit are wonderful. The owner was very easy to reach and kept in touch for all our questions throughout the stay.

The week we spent at Kona Makai 1-301 was wonderful in every way! It was perfect for two couples because of the spaciousness. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. They both have wonderful views with access to the huge lanai. The lanai is what sets this unit apart. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the lanai & every night we had dinner while viewing amazing sunsets! The location is close to town which we liked also. We contacted the management company a couple times with questions & they responded quickly. We would highly recommend this unit & we hope to return for another wonderful stay!

We really enjoyed our four nights at Kona Makai. The property is gorgeous and well maintained. The unit is tidy and has everything you need. The photos online are very accurate. The only issue we had was a bad smell occasionally when we were on the lanai. On our last morning we looked over the railing and saw what seemed to be toilet paper and water flowing from underneath the building into the bushes. Not sure how that was happening, but pretty gross. We alerted the management and they were really prompt to reply and send someone out. We were heading to the airport so not sure what the problem or resolution was but assume it has been taken care of now. Wish we had asked for help sooner!
