Rented this unit for 2 weeks in December 2025. Perfect for our 4 person family. Location was great and the unit was walking distance to the marina, access to a swimming beach, grocery stores and the Outrigger Hotel. The Unit, Grounds and Pool area where all well kept and overall this was a great place to stay.

We loved the codo, nocely oitfitted,. The only thing we would change is the fans don't seem very effective, the ceiling fans and the oscillating fans seem weak. It was hot, and we had trouble staying comfortable. Otherwise we loved our stay and we'll be back. Thanks!

This was the second time my family stayed at this location. Helen is truly wonderful and helped us navigate our trip. She kept us informed of volcano eruptions and potential pitfalls of traveling around Ironman. As before, the location can’t be beat. Close to swimming with manta rays, snorkeling and Alii’ Drive but far enough away to enjoy the quiet. There is nothing better than the beautiful sunsets from the lanai. Amazing place to stay.

The layout is nice just like the VRBO ad... No a/c my fault I should have checked into that more as the VRBO ad did not list a/c in the unit.... Here's the real big problem bugs of various forms and lots and lots of them I and my wife have been bitten it was terrible.... So this and the hell like heat made this stay miserable .... I am sure that this was state of the art in 1940's and I could be happy if I paid 1940's prices so ha way over priced and of course VRBO agent said they could nothing about it

This rental looked too good to be true with the price point it was listed at, but it still managed to blow away expectations! The owners went above and beyond to make sure we knew everything there was to do here, and that we were comfortable doing so. This really did feel like a home away from home. The accommodation for kids were amazing, making this an extremely family friendly location. Any communication with the property manager was always promptly answered with a very short turnaround time. Overall, I was extremely impressed and would definitely stay at the Salty Mermaid again!!

We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful apartment. The layout was great, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms modern, and the kitchen perfectly equipped. Everything was spotlessly clean. From enjoying breakfast on the terrace to relaxing on the cozy sofa, we truly felt at home. The temperature was perfect thanks to the curtains and ceiling fans, and having a washer and dryer was super convenient. There were plenty of towels, bed linens, and beach gear available.One small issue came up when the dishwasher broke down, but someone was sent over immediately and fixed it on the spot – it was handled quickly and without any hassle. Communication with the hosts was smooth and highly professional. We didn’t miss a thing and can wholeheartedly recommend this place. Many thanks for everything – we’d love to come back!Just one little note of caution: watch out for stray golf balls – one flew right at us while we were relaxing on the terrace!

Lovely, well-equipped condo located just two minutes from the Holua racquet and pickleball club! Most comfortable beds I've ever slept in--barring my own. LOVED the black out window coverings in the bedrooms as well. Very nice--this host has thought of everything to make your stay fun, enjoyable and comfortable.

An excellent well maintained, well stocked and quiet condo in a convenient location for exploring, beach time and going to good places for snorkeling. The Fair Wind and Hula Kai snorkel cruises are the best and very close to the condo. The wi-fi works perfectly and we watched a little TV on Netflix. And- it’s quiet! Not a lot of kids running around making noise. My wife and I and some old friends had a delightful time.

We have stayed in this condo, Unit E301, twice for a week each time. First in winter of 2021 and now spring 2025.The positive: we really love the layout and spacious feeling of this condo. It has three basically separate areas, although one is the loft. Each has its own bathroom. We love the lofted ceiling and clearstory. The huge lanai with a beautiful view over the golf course with the ocean in the distance and palm trees is amazing. It's wonderful to wake up and sit on the lanai listening to the birds! We love the visiting geckos who roam the property. The location is great for Kona related activities, but is an hour drive to the main beaches up north.The negative: Many items in the condo are aging or broken. Specifically: the toaster only works on one side, the main garbage can step doesn't function, so you have to lift the lid by hand each time, one of the cabinets won't stay closed, most of the beach items in the condo are broken or far past their prime (broken and very old chairs, only one too-small, cheap, partially broken umbrella). The lanai screen doors are very finicky, and apparently won't lock. The toilet in the primary bath runs.Also, the manager doesn't respond to regular questions during off hours unless you contact the emergency number, and there are some unreasonable rules such as absolutely no playing outdoors in the grass or in the pool area.Thank you!

We were very pleased with the unit. Helen, our contact, was an excellent communicator. She made sure we had everything we needed. The unit was spotless and well-stocked. The ocean breeze during the day and the breeze from the mountains at night kept the unit extremely comfortable. There are plenty of ceiling fans, too, which are totally silent. So, we never needed to turn on the bedroom AC. The view from the lanai is delightful.I give this place a top rating!

The view could; not be beat! However, there was no AC, so windows had to be open. One room could not open the windows because a screen was ripped. Another room had no window to open. Very hot and stuffy for sleeping. Maybe worse was the road noise outside the condo. It sits at a corner of a busy road at an intersection.. Very noisy all day and night.

Overall a nice comfortable place. Beds were good and kitchen was pretty well appointed. Nice new grill on the deck. Had some issues with ceiling fans not working and some of them were addressed. Fans on lanai (with lights) still never worked. Kitchen cabinet was busted and even after repair was still janky. WiFi was spotty and only allowed three out of four of us to connect after multiple tries. CB was very communicative and accommodating for early arrival (thanks!). The condo just felt dated and a little tired in some of It’s appearances. Only saw two cockroaches but had a friendly gecko to help keep things positive. The condo location is pretty far away from most of Kona but close to a grocery store and a few restaurants. We did walk to the farmers market but that was about it. The vibe of the compound was a little standoffish and not very welcoming. We even got a noise complaint on our first night for loud music after 10. (We were tired from travel and asleep by 8:15 so it certainly wasn’t us) Overall a nice condo but we won’t book again.

Our family of 4 stayed at this condo for just under 3 weeks and it was absolute bliss. The condo has a great lanai where we spent so much time drinking coffee in the mornings, playing boardgames, reading, having meals and good family time in the perfect weather. The condo was well stocked and had plenty of outdoor gear for us all to go snorkeling. We met up with John who delivered the paddle boards as well. He is GREAT! A great host and responded quick to messages leading up to and throughout our stay. Thanks so much for everything John! We had such a great vacation and loved staying at your condo. For those considering to book this, I would highly recommend it. It was the perfect spot to sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty all around.

Great place, that is exactly as listed. Very clean, and quiet. There was a cute social that we as guests were invited to do a potluck but weren’t able to attend due to plans. Internet connection was unstable, we did reach out with very prompt responses back from host. Location is good, but not much is really in walkable distance due to no sidewalks.we had a rental car and found it very easy to drive around the island, so it wasn’t a big deal.

This place exceeded all expectations! Helen was very attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay special! She even provided a large basket of fruit from her own farm, which we enjoyed all week long. We've never tasted better pineapple, oranges, bananas, and lemons! The condo is clean, quiet, spacious, and very, very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful pool and hot tub every evening. We took most of our meals on the large balcony, which provides a great view of the pool and the lovely grounds. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and snorkels were provided, which we made use of several times during the week. When we return to the Big Island, this is where we'll stay -- no need to look anywhere else!

The property was very clean, and had everything we needed to stay comfortably on the island. The kitchen had the basics, but you will need to buy everything you need (olive oil, condiments etc). There were plenty of fans to keep air moving and a sun shade on the lanai, when used appropriately the home stayed cool enough without AC. The property manager was fantastic, they were so communicative during our stay and made sure all of our needs were met. Overall 5 stars, but probably better for families with older kids. Would not bring a small child (everything is glass, iykyk).
