We enjoyed our first stay at HBR in Jeff’s condo (located in Heliconia-15). Jeff is a thoughtful host who has beautifully furnished this condo with comfortable furniture, old-Hawai’i inspired decor, and nice patio sets. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking our own meals. The king size bed was firm and supportive, and there were lots of pillows and blankets available. The pros of being in Heliconia-15 are: close to parking lot, main building, pools, and grilling station. This unit is also is a top-floor, corner unit with views of the Na Pali mountains. The view of the jungle from the lanais was stunning. Despite all this, the cons of this location would prevent us from staying in Heliconia-15 again. It is immediately behind the main building where a massive HVAC system provides a constant thrumming sound. The flurry of golf carts coming to/from the service area adjacent to the HVAC meant that noise was ongoing and reduced the privacy of this unit. Finally, a single ramp provides level-entry to Heliconia-15 and this unit is the first one, so everyone coming to/from this block walks past this unit. The thumping from foot falls are audible in the bedroom while trying to sleep. We are still giving 5 stars because this is not within Jeff’s control, and every block in HBR has pros and cons - you just have to find what’s right for your family. Jeff is an amazing host and we would gladly stay with him again in another one of his properties. Mahalo!

It was decorated in a very zen way and had everything we needed for a three day stop before two more travel destinations. We absolutely loved this place for its pristine location and gorgeous ocean/mountain views! The place itself is wonderfully decorated with art representing the local culture/island. It’s quiet, roomy, comfortable and peaceful (something we were looking for in this vacation). We will come back next Dic and hope we can get the exact same place! There are a few things that we think would make a stay even better: the mattress should be replaced. The bed is extremely high, not ideal for shorter people like my wife. The tub urgently needs an anti-slip mat because it gets super slippery in there and I almost had a bad fall. Other than that: what an incredible spot! We had a great time and we devoted a whole day to spend it in this place just to enjoy the stunning views…and the mesmerizing sound of rain. So lovely! Thank you! José and Maggie.

We stay at HBR every time we visit Kauai. This is our 4th time and we have stayed in a different rental each time at HBR. This one has been my favorite so far. It was beautifully decorated and the view was amazing. The washer and dryer came in handy because we have 3 under 3 so laundry is a daily necessity. The loft and beds were perfect for our kids. AC worked great. Fridge was really nice. The closet was also full of beach toys, boogie boards, coolers, chairs and umbrella. We did decide to move any items that could break away from our toddlers and rented a baby gate to close off the stairway up to the loft but that was about it. I would 100% come back to this rental with our kids.
Not really a con, but a recommendation - There is a broom but if the rental had a hand held vacuum that would have been icing on the cake.
The only "downside" to this rental is the building is the bottom of the resort so it's an uphill trek to the parking lot. It's not that far of a walk, and kind of nice to get your heart rate up BUT you can call the front desk for the golf carts to come pick you up. To that point, I definitely recommend tipping because the guys are great and will help load and unload the cart. HBR has never let us down. We talked to a couple who has been coming to Kauai for 21 years. They said outright that Hanalei Bay Resort is the best on the island and I would have to agree.

We arrived after dark, and were greeted warmly by the front desk staff. Shuttled to our condo which was nice because we had a lot of luggage. We slept well in the comfy beds, and woke up in the morning to see the most beautiful view of Hanalei Bay. I never wanted to leave our balcony! The property is fabulous. One drawback is they were doing maintenance on the grounds every day of our stay. All day long, it was noisy. We will definitely go back, but maybe at a time when there is not so much maintenance going on.

Pretty bummed with this listing overall and I wanted to check out early and find something that was less gross. The room was very dingy and dirty and smelled musty. The bathroom smelled like urine. The entire place needs a serious deep clean, general maintenance and replacement of things. There were no amenities like shampoo/soap or coffee and what we did find was jammed in a dirty closet with cleaning supplies. Just pretty cringey overall. I get the sense this property management runs hundreds of these units, make their money and doesn’t care to maintain or update them often. I would take your money elsewhere!

The pool is dated, waterfalls not working, and a few other minor things that need attention. With that said, we would stay here again when we return to Kauai. You will not get views like this anywhere else. The waterfalls on the mountains are stunning and you cannot and watch them while sipping your coffee or Mai Tai. Our room was comfortable and offered everything we needed, mini kitchen, toaster, blender, washer, dryer, detergent, toiletries and a welcome gift basket. The decor is dated, but who cares! We were on the balcony or walking the property most of the day when on property. Mattress was comfortable.

The unit itself was a nice hotel room with a beautiful view of the mountains. The room was clean with plenty of towels in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the ac was perfect. I would recommend the owners add some type of door sealer for the door that joins this room to the one next door. We could hear everything they were doing (especially cooking and cleaning pots early in the morning) and could smell every time they cooked. Parking was a nightmare after 3pm. Being that we paid for parking we were a bit upset the lot we were told to park in was overcrowded every day starting at happy hour (3pm) which meant if we left, we wouldn’t have a place to park until after 10pm or later. The view from the balcony and the pool area was nice. Access to the small beach was cute, but felt like we were trespassing on another hotels property.There was one restaurant with bar and a separate pizza restaurant that was under construction (looked like it used to be a very nice restaurant). There are no other restaurants within walking distance and the only ones nearby were at other hotels. There actually wasn’t much to do nearby this hotel. Overall, I’m glad we split our two weeks to stay here and another place. While this unit was nice and the hotel was once a grand place to stay, there really isn’t much to do nearby unless you’d like to drive 30+ minutes one way. So I’d say this rental is great for relaxing and lounging by the hotel pool and catching happy hour. If you plan on doing a lot of tourism, be prepared to drive a lot.

Arriving was smooth we felt really welcomed, no hold ups, fully supported in landing in our room. It is a very large property with a sweet Lil walk to a shared but private beach with gorgeous views and safe (when we were there) waters. We had fun at the in house restaurant with live music. The food is OK. The bed is huge, pillows ok, not great linens, kinda rough. I'll bring my own pillow case next time. But the view from the bed was everything, and to hear the birds in the morning so sweet, we kept the doors open/ no AC to be fully in the Aina from bed. Neighbors were mostly quiet, it is intimately shared space so we were too. Spacious bathroom with little kitchen area before it, just fridge, dishware and coffe/tea pot which we used. Shower wall had some mildew on it but so do most places on Kauai. That was the only thing that didn't feel carefully tended. Everything else was great. The closet was kind of jumbled with things so we didn't use it but didn't really need it. The property is a bit dated but I don't come to the islands for slick and new.. Just the Aloha and the beauty... That was fully present. 🌺🙏🌊

This condo has it all! It truly felt like paradise and had ALL the comforts of home. The views from the deck are magnificent and mesmerizing with the lush tropical landscape and mountains and even a waterfall! The condo has only the finest quality furniture and decor which was beautiful. We cooked several meals and the kitchen was well equipped. We were able to relax which is a good thing as the bed and furnishings were comfortable and new.
HBR resort itself is very beautiful. It is well located and easy to park close by as I had some mobility issues and felt it was accessible and safe. We would definitely look forward to another stay at this condo if we return to Kauai and give it two thumbs up for anyone wanting a great place to stay! This is my second time starting at this property. Last time in 2012. It’s so relaxing and the grounds are amazing. The unit we rented was perfect for us 5 adults. We had a couple minor issues that it was confusing to know who to contact. When we checked in, we got a text message from the resort asking how everything was now that we were checked in and to let us know if anything was wrong with the room. So when I responded to say that the toaster wasn’t working they said oh you need to contact you’re on-island contact not the resort. So when I asked about the fact, they just said is anything wrong with the room they said oh that’s just a automatic text message that goes out to new guests. Huh? Confusing. Our air conditioner briefly stopped working too. Once I figured out who to contact they were very responsive. I would definitely stay here again. This unit is at the bottom of the hill so it’s quite a walk to the parking lot but on the plus side they have golf carts with employees who drive around and will give you rides if you need help. Also the bed and pillow were amazingly comfortable, seriously! Would definitely stay here again.

For 2, it worked well, just wish it had a few things: Microwave, light on the back deck and a second tennis racket. There is no restaurant on the property anymore due to Bali Hai Restaurant being closed. Really my only "complaint", as you had to drive out for dinner (/bring in take out). Happy Talk is a bar with minimal food, Wiki WIki Pizza was very disappointing.
But! we would love to stay again, next time with our eyes a little more open. A wonderful unit to stay in!

We loved our stay here. The view off the deck was amazing. The entire property is a little dated but this condo has been updated pretty well over the years. The kids loved the pool and theres a really nice shallow area where our 2 year old loved to play.
There are two on-site restaurants, one for pizza take-out which was good and the other had really good burgers that we took down to the pool. One minor disappointment was that there was no drink service and you can't even take drinks from the restaurant bar down to the pool area but you can bring your own drinks to the pool area so that was fine.
We enjoyed the walks down to the beach. The new 1Hotel down there has a few awesome restaurants and bars. We ate at the sushi place down there and the food was amazing.
We hiked to Hanakapiai - this was very challenging but worth it. The town of Hanalei was really fun to check out and we went down to the beach there twice and the kids all had a blast playing in the waves.
Overall, this place was great for us and I think overall a good value for the money, especially considering the view you get from this unit. We would return.

This property seemed to be in the middle of a renovation. Once the reno is complete I am sure it will be a lovely condo. But when we stayed there there were missing baseboards and nails sticking out in places. The toilet wax seal was sticking out of the side of the toilet base. The bathroom door was really damaged. The countertops had recently been replaced but the clean up from that was not done well. We found chalky grime from the countertop installation inside all the cabinets and had to wash all the dishes before we used them. The bathtub was very dirty and because we had a toddler I had to re clean the tub before we could use it. Overall we were not impressed. Hanalei Bay Resort itself is amazing and the staff and facilities are excellent.

Overall a beautiful condo and we had a wonderful stay - here is a pro/con list I made while staying here!
Pros)
- Amazing property, the pool is delightful and there is a nice paved walking path to a great beach. Has a ton of amenities and would definitely come back again!
- The balcony has a perfect view of the lush green mountains (and bonus! there is a super cool green gecko that lives in the vines outside the balcony, we saw it a couple times!).
- The condo stays really cool WITHOUT using the AC, just keep the curtains closed.
- It’s nice that everyone leaves things behind for the next people to use (like sunscreen, frozen cocktail *thank you to whomever!*, laundry soap, etc.); although I will say it is a little sketchy not knowing exactly what was in the room to begin with (though I did know the obvious due to some of the instructions I was given).
Cons)
- There was a bowl of half eaten icecream in the freezer, I’m not sure how thorough the cleaning service is. Some of the towels also had brown stains (possibly from a self tanner as I noticed a few bottles in the cabinet) but we bought bleach and cleaned them ourselves.
- There isn’t darkening curtains so I did feel a little strange having see-through curtains throughout the rooms.
- I didn’t see a smoke alarm, although I could have missed one.

Very nice condo! Appreciated it having no steps as one of our friends couldn't do steps at all. Beach was nice, some called for golf cart for pick up as others walked the steep path. Restraunt at resort very nice with good food. Condo had lots of beach chairs, umbellas, boards, etc to use with a cart to pull them. Cooking accomidations worked well. Lots to do and see in the area. Loved visiting the lighthouse area and multiple hiking areas. We enjoyed our stay!!!

I love the beach style of this unit. Great ground floor unit perfect for kids. After relocating a few breakables into a closet, this place was easy with little ones. It had everything we needed and was well organized. It was clean and uncluttered. The location was easy for both pools and walking to the beach and the view was gorgeous. I would recommend this unit and we will choose this one again. We have stayed in at least 6 different units on the property and enjoyed this one the most.

The resort itself was a great spot, amazing pool, tennis court and a golf cart shuttle to the beach. I would come back but definitely would not stay at this condo. We were not pleased with the condo. The vent in the bathroom had so much build up dust, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for years. The condo had a connecting door to a different condo that we were unaware about, which was fine but the door had a huge gap at the bottom. When I say huge, I mean I was able to put my hand underneath and grab our neighbors belongings. We could hear everything that our neighbor was doing as if they were standing right next to us and so we never wanted to be in room or make any noice. I told Kristin (host) about this and her solution was to put a towel underneath the door. Not even a little compensation. We were not happy especially since this was our 1st time in Kauai.

This was one side of a condo, with the other side having a separate entrance, and separately rented, with a locked door in between. This side has a full kitchen, living room, and one bedroom. We understand the other side is a studio. Apparently a very common arrangement in this resort. The resort is beautiful; the resort and the unit itself have awesome views of the ocean and mountains. This particular unit is a litlte tired, and although it listed a washer and dryer as being in the unit, those were out of service and apparently had been for months. We were a little freaked out upon check-in by numerous large insect traps set up throughout the unit, but in the three days/nights we were there, we thankfully had no bug issues. The only downside of the resort that we noticed was that there is no parking near the units -- you can only park in a central parking lot at the high end of the property, then need to walk or get a golf cart ride to and from your unit. The walks can be long and steep depending on unit location, which can be a pain if you have a lot of luggage. But the beauty of the resort and the surrounding area made it, overall, well worth the stay.

We picked the property because of the view and the pool (for my son) and it did not disappoint! My favorite was sitting on the porch having my morning drink just looking at all the beauty. The location of the room on the property is awesome as well. Right there close to the pool/hot tub, restaurants, and other amenities. Plus it’s nice that the resort includes you in all the activities (I won at bingo!). The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the shower was always warm. The only con is the bathroom is a bit dark when you close the shower curtain and having some sort of rack to dry bathing suits would have been nice. Also, the faucet in the bathroom gets really hot, but it’s nice for when you need to clean a dish. We love staying north because it is more chill and would totally stay here again!
