This property was not updated and the condo smelled like old 90’s apartment. The sheets felt like cardboard and it had not been dusted for a bit when we settled in. The kitchen did not have all of the materials needed and tools. The online listing said laundry in facilities but it’s not in the condos it’s coin operated. The grounds are exceptional and had plumeria trees, pickle ball, giant chess, games and hot tub. Location splits the island in half for driving to Hanalei and Poipu. Close to the best shave ice on the island. It’s just very old for how much it cost.

The location was great. Close to old downtown, where the fun shopping is. Beautiful grounds and wonderful views of the ocean from the condos. The Condos were older but well kept, big and roomy. The Ocean is right at your feet and wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to have a little slice of paradice. Aloha

Our family enjoyed the property. The condo was a perfect location on the property with beautiful view of the ocean and close to the pool and other activities! We enjoyed some board games on a rainy afternoon and our boys loves the pool! Staff was very helpful and friendly. Beautiful and fun place to stay!

The property has been semi-renovated - was good on sound, I think, although it is 3rd floor. Kitchen minimally furnished. Would be great to look around your unit and realize you are in the Islands. Decor could be any hotel room.

Pono Kai is in the heart of a kauai and an older, yet well maintained Resort. We enjoyed our time in beautiful Kauai

Excellent property with ocean views. The location is pretty good for accessing both North and South shore locations. Kitchen is well equipped which allowed us to prepare some meals and save some money.

We had a perfect stay at Pono Kai. The condo was great, the bed was very comfortable, and all amenities were in great shape. We had a beautiful view of the ocean. The location allowed us to walk to restaurants and stores. We rented a car, and were able to drive to everywhere within 45 minutes or so due to the central location. We will definitely be coming back.

The resort was great but the particular unit we stayed in had some serious issues. Upon entering the unit there was a very strong mold/mildew smell. There was also mold on the pullout couch bed and the carpet felt damp most of the time. We tried to change rooms but the resort was all booked up and other resorts were either too pricey or too far away from the rest of my family who were staying in other units in this resort, so we just had to deal with it for the 7 nights we stayed there. We also had a crawling baby there with us whose knees and feet would turn black after crawling around on the floor. Lastly, the faucet in the bath tub would shoot out green algae looking junk when we tried to push the stopper in to give our baby a bath. It was unfortunate because the host said she had upgraded us to an ocean view room. The view was amazing but all the issues with the actual unit made it difficult to fully enjoy our stay. Furthermore, the host made seemingly no attempt to help our situation. She mentioned she would have the resort staff contact us but that never happened and she never followed up with us after we had expressed our concern with the room.

This property was a great location - right in downtown Kapaa and right on the beach. The downfalls were - Our condo had the bedroom in the back with no vents, which is furthest away from ONE the air conditioning. We had to pull our mattress into the living room. Even with the fan on - the bedroom was consistently in the 90's. We requested a change of condo's, but they were full. Also, the walls are VERY VERY thin. We had a family upstairs with 3 small children and it unfortunately we learned to sleep when they slept. Sometimes, when relaxing in the evening watching a tv program, we were not even able to hear our tv because it sounded like a herd of elephants above us. Yes, I pounded on their door and yes, I went to the front desk. Would I stay here again... probably not.

Our family has stayed at Pono Kai Resort for over 25 years when we had a timeshare. Love that we can continue to stay there through VRBO and loved our beach front unit.

Pono Kai is in a great location - on the ocean with good access to other areas of Kauai and easy walking distance to Old Kapa'a shops and restaurants. It's an older resort, some units have been refreshed but others, including the one we stayed in, are definitely in need of some TLC. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained daily. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Kauai.

Great location for restaurants and shopping, amazing ocean view. Pull out bed not so comfortably but the ocean waves managed to lull us to to sleep 😴 definitely got an older building smell to it but otherwise worked great for us and our 15 month old

My condo was close to an elevator. I was assured by the condo owner that noise would not be an issue. Two days after I arrived they were still grinding and working on the elevator.

This property was an excellent location for our week-long getaway! It has a 2nd floor balcony looking out on the ocean, where you can see the sunrise over the water every morning and moonrise at night. The Pono Kai resort had a nice pool and games area and numerous activities, and there is a great walking path along the beach that can take you along the coast to the north or south. The location is a short, easy walk to downtown Kapa'a with lots of shops and eating establishments nearby. It's also a great central location for visiting the island of Kauai, since you are about halfway between the endpoints of the road that goes 3/4 of the way around the island. The full kitchen allowed us to prepare some of our own meals with fresh tropical fruit from local farmer's markets. We were able to rent snorkeling gear right there at the resort and also took a Ukulele lesson for $25/person on Thursday morning. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and nicely kept. Absolutely a great place to stay for the price!

This resort is on the older side but is in pretty good condition. The pool is small, no frills. They had outside games. We used this spot as a jumping off location to go around the island every day. Can't beat that. 30 min north, 20 min from airport, 45 min to Waimea. It seemed others used the resort as a destination. Manicured lawn. Reasonably quiet. The condo was clean and adequate. The kitchen had ample supplies but not equipped for big meals. Plenty of grills to use. Outside showers. The bed was comfortable and linens were nice. We stayed a week and there was mid-week cleaning service. The living room had blackout curtains and sheers. Lighting was fine. The couch was gross, smelly and just dirty. Wish I had a cover for it. Porch furniture were plastic chairs. When you reserve this condo, you show up and they give you what they have. I communicated with the host to request ocean view and she confirmed that we would, and we did. So, every unit could be different. In reading the reviews, seems there are some without an ocean view that are updated. We were on the 3rd floor. I believe there was an elevator. The A/C worked ok in the living room but the bedroom on the opposite side of the unit, facing the afternoon sun, would get really warm. There was an extra floor fan to help with this. The location is within walking distance to lots of Kapa'a restaurants and decent quality shops. Its a nice little town. The paved beach trail starts at this resort and goes north 4 miles (i think) hugging the coastline. The beach is sandy and not too crowded in February. You can rent beach chairs, umbrella from the resort. Go early, they close at 3pm and don't have a large supply. $7ea/day. You can also sign out pool towels for free. Overall, the condo and resort suited our needs. Especially for the price. Host communicated well with me, which I appreciated.

The staff were very nice and helpful. The grounds were nicely kept and it was a spacious property. Our unit was a bit dated but roomy. It was nice to have AC but would recommend an AC unit in our bedroom as well. It was nice to be close to the beach. I would stay here again.
