This was a great condo that I’m definitely interested in staying at again. I appreciated how open and minimalist the layout was while still being well equipped and furnished. Steps away from the ocean and right on the edge of historic Kapa’a, one would be hard pressed for a better location. Check-in and check-out was easy and communication with the host was smooth. 10:00 am check-out was a little early, but you can arrange later if available, and if it was that important to me, I would have. I would highly recommend.

This is a beautiful second floor condo with a direct view of the Pacific Ocean and spectacular sunrises. Pono Kai is centrally located in Kauai so trips to the north and south are easy to plan.
This condo had the perfect amount of space for 2 adults. The east facing (sunrise) living space has plenty of room to move and relax. The living room opens to a beautiful balcony with plenty of room to sit and read or just take in the relaxing views and sounds of the surf.
The kitchen is complete with everything you need to cook meals in or just to store the basics and eat out. The cherry cabinets and granite countertops make it obvious that you are staying in a quality condo.
The bedroom with a queen bed has all you need to unpack for an extended or short vacation - plenty of closet and drawer storage. Perfect sized safe tucked away in the closet. The large window opens to a rarely used walk space, but can be shaded with lovely privacy shutters.
Our favorite space was the beautiful tiled bath. The large walk-in elegant shower was the reason we chose this unit. There is plenty of counter space and more than needed storage.
Restaurants, food trucks, grocery stores, souvenir shops, bike rentals, and an ocean side bike/walk path are steps away.
Shirley was wonderful to work with. You can book with confidence when booking this condo.

Comfortable condo in central (east coast) tourist part of Kauai. Easy to get north or south (even though traffic can be quite crazy on Kauai, with a constant flow of cars). You can also just walk right out to restaurants and shops, or stroll along the oceanfront path. Major shopping and markets are close by walking or car. Condo has pretty much everything you need for a nice stay. Although we barely used the kitchen, it has absolutely everything you need. Be cautious not to leave anything out or it will be attacked by little bugs! The direct sunrise is quite amazing and completely unobstructed. Wow! AC in living area and bedroom is fantastic (and a must in muggy hot August!). WiFi was nice and fast. Bathroom is super, and with a walk-in shower. Building in the community is a bit on the older side, but the maintenance team is always out and about keeping things kept up. The walls are quite thin and we did hear footsteps and talking/music from both neighbors above and below us, but it didn’t really bother us, as we were out and about most of the time. We are glad we booked this place rather than a hotel for this round in Hawaii.

We’ll equipped, clean, and comfortable. The ocean view is stunning. Watch the sunrise and fishing boats leaving the adjacent small harbor. The location is perfect, easy walk down the path to several restaurants and shops. The booking and checkin process was hassle free mostly because of the excellent communication we had with our gracious host Shirley Cooney. Don’t hesitate to book this place, you won’t regret it.

From the outset Shirley was easy to deal with and was able to offer us as first time visitors to Kauai lots of useful advice.
The complex and the apartment is easy to find and front desk staff helpful which made check in a breeze
The apartment itself is larger than we expected a one bedroom unit to be and was comfortably furnished and well equipped and provisioned.
Sittin on balcony watch the sunrise over the sea and having coffee and breakfast was a great way to start the day.
The location of the apartment is great as well - being centrally located it was easy to explore the whole island. We have fallen in love with Kauai and will be back again - hooefully we can get ouraelves sufficiently organised to stay in Shirely's apartment again

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful condo to attend our nieces wedding. We are so glad we did! Perfect mid Island location for easy access to Poipu or Princeville areas. Condo was beautifully decorated with attention to all the possible amenities any visitors might need. We appreciated the ice packs and chests as we traveled around the island. Don’t miss Java Kai for breakfast! We would definitely stay here again!

We have no complaints, the place was exactly as advertised. We loved getting up in the morning with the beautiful ocean view. We also enjoyed some home cooked meals, having the barbecues close by was nice. Our neighbors were a little noisy at times, but there is nothing to be done about that. Those types of things are completely out of the control of Resort Staff or Property Owner, don’t call them!!! We didn’t, with all of the things we got to enjoy there was no need to be upset. I would highly recommend this place and would love to come back and stay again in the future. Mahalo Shirley and Tony!!!!!

We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at Shirley’s condo. The view from the balcony is unobstructed with a lovely ocean breeze. The condo is very well equipped and Shirley was very proactive ensuring that we had everything we could possibly need for our stay. My wife and I enjoyed our stay, definitely could have used a couple more nights before heading home to snowy MN. The place is as nice as the pictures indicate. Shirley is awesome! She really wants her guests to have a fantastic stay. We investigated the island each day of our trip, except one. It was fantastic to start and end days on the lanai. A place with a great view and breezes coming off the ocean is a must in my opinion.
For those of you that like to travel to see the sites, it takes a bit over 30 minutes to get to Hanalei Bay and around 90 minutes to get to Waimea Canyon State Park from here.

We will definitely be back! Perfect location and the town of Kapa'a is so low key and wonderful! Condo was immaculate and had everything we needed. My husband and I had a wonderful 10 night stay. The unit was very clean, beautifully updated and decorated, and well-stocked. We enjoyed watching the sunrise every morning from the lanai with our coffee, and then heading out to walk the beautiful beachfront path that can be accessed steps from the condo. We also loved the proximity to many restaurants and shops in Kapa’a. And the beach in front of the condo is beautiful. We could not have asked for anything more! We really did not want to leave. Needless to say, we will be back!

F204 has everything needed to assure a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Views from the deck are breathtaking with furniture that is comfortable and well above average. The condo kitchen is extremely well stocked with every utensil and appliance that would be needed to cook a gourmet meal.
Extra amenities such as a library, game chest, and closet filled with beach accessories were available—and all in great condition!
I also need to mention that the furnishings and decor are truly decorator quality , no expense was spared— which ensures a pleasant atmosphere and comfort.
The location is also very convenient to town, restaurants and on the walking path. Couldn’t have wanted for more! Thank you, Shirley and Tony

We felt very welcome from the minute we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals, there were beach chairs and plenty of towels, and it was very clean. The owner was very communicative and helpful. The condo has a good beach vibe and a very nice view. We could watch the sunrise from the balcony. There is an unassigned parking spot and we never had any issues finding parking. There is also a pool and hot tub which our daughter enjoyed very much. Behind the property there is a biking/walking path (public) next to the beach which was very nice. You can rent bikes nearby.
Things that didn’t work so well:
- there was a funky smell when we first entered the condo. We bought a febreze and used it and the smell was gone in a couple of days (or we got used to it)
- the glasses and plates also had a weird smell to it
- using the washer and dryer is a pain because it’s downstairs and you have to go a few times to load to washer, then move to dryer, might need to dry a second time and then again to pick up the clothes.
- the contact person in Kauai was a bit rude
The supreme question is whether we will come back to this condo again and the answer is a strong yes. The positives overwhelm the minor negatives. We had a great time in Kauai and we hope you will too.

This condo was everything it said it was and more! Tastefully decorated, it had everything we could possibly need. The location and view were fabulous. She even had books to read, because I never bring enough.

This is a wonderful property - morning sunrises were awesome. Very clean and has everything you need and more! We used the hot tub a couple nights. The trail is very nice, close to many shops and restaurants. Loved Chicken in a Barrel. We toured the whole island and found Kapaa to be centrally located. Went to all the beaches, hiked the Napali coast, took a helicopter ride, biked down Waimea Canyon and went to a luau. Our favorite restaurant was Bobbies in Hanapepe, #7 - Korean chicken, kaula pork and noodles! 🤤Shirley was wonderful. I highly would suggest this condo and hopefully I will be back soon!

My wife and I stayed for a month and enjoyed every minute. The unit has a gogeous ovean view and everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Located near shopping in old town Kapaa, Big Save market, and the paved walking and biking trail along the coast. Shirley was the best owner we have ever dealt with, period. Clean and well supplied for our stay. The description of the condo is spot on. We didn't rent a car and found the resort perfectly located for us, a fifteen minute taxi ride from the airport. We intend to return on our next trip to Kauai. The grounds are a garden with large pool and grills, game courts and convenient parking for those with cars. Loved it.

We hadn't been to Kauai before and weren't sure where we'd be spending our time, so the East Shore felt like a safe option. And this was a very good spot. Everything was a step up from your usual condo rental - nice furniture, upgraded bathroom, nice glasses, nice plates and bowls, comfy lanai chairs, etc. Everything was sparkling clean, and we appreciated the beach chairs and towels. The resort has amenities we didn't use that much since we were out, and the hot tub tends to be full at night - but the grounds were pleasant. Places to eat and shop were basically next door. The lanai has a nice view of the ocean, but there are two buildings closer to the beach, so if you want an unobstructed view you have to leave the apartment. Overall, very comfortable and pleasant stay.

This place is amazing! The view is truly gorgeous and it is right on a fabulous long ocean front sidewalk. You can walk to plenty of great fancy and casual restaurants and all the shops on Kappaa. The resort has great amenities like grills, lawn games, a pool, and a beautiful koi pond. The unit is really well-appointed with everything you need for a delightful stay. We did a lot of relaxing along with great dinners (sams ocean view, oasis on the beach, luikani), a whale watch, hiking, a trip to the lighthouse wildlife refuge where we saw albatross. Great location for getting all around the island.

This condo was perfect. I mean that in every sense. The view was perfect, the location ideal, the upkeep stellar and the reading selection fabulous. I brought my own books, but ended up reading some of their's instead!
The kitchen was well stocked with the basics with everything one might need. The only addition would be some of the low beach chairs so one didn't have to rent them from the front office, but even that was ok.

We've stayed at Shirley and Tony's Pono Kai condo twice now. It is everything it states to be and more. After seeing and staying in other condos in the Hawaiian Islands I can say with confidence that this condo is without doubt one of the nicest and best equipped as well as best organized of all of them. We are already looking forward to a return trip and staying in this delightful home away from home. Really perfect for two people!

We absolutely loved our stay at this unit. The apartment was gorgeous and so clean! Shirley was always available via a quick phone call. We loved that it had a kitchen- nothing better than eating breakfast on the balcony while looking out at the ocean. The resort was also wonderful. We spent evenings playing a variety of games around the property. We will definitely be back!

We had an absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai, and this condo was a great home base for our trip. Great location with lots of great places within walking distance. We took full advantage of the walking path right outside the property, walking most days during our stay. Shirley and Tony were excellent hosts, great communication and checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The condo was well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and everything we needed to prepare our meals. We will definitely be returning to enjoy this little piece of paradise again.

We were very impressed with this property - the beautiful view was the best ( full non obstructed ocean view!!!). We really enjoyed watching the sunrise from the balcony every morning and having evening relaxation watching the ocean. The decorations throughout the whole unit were beautiful and there were fresh flowers waiting for us when we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with the necessities and there were beach towels and ice packs for us to use. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great! The location is perfect - we did not have a car the first couple of days in Kauai and this unit/ resort was in the perfect location to bike to beautiful beaches and walk to town for plenty of shopping/ great restaurants. The communication with Shirley was incredible , she called us before our stay and during to make sure we felt comfortable and she gave great tips for the area and even helped us research some things we were interested in. She was so so wonderful and we were so impressed! We definitely will be back to this beautiful unit!! Thank you Shirley!!

This unit is absolutely beautiful. It has been exquisitely redecorated and remodeled. The owners have thought of everything. The unit is well located with great ocean views. From walking around the complex and seeing in the windows of other units, I really think this one is probably one of the best -- if not the best --- in the entire complex. Owners were also very pleasant to deal with and called after our arrival to make sure that everything was OK. We highly recommend this unit.

My wife and I have been to Kauai a number of times, our island of preference and we always stay in Kapaa. However, this last visit, was different. We decided to stay at a different accommodation which turned out to be the best move we could make.
When we walked in the door, I immediately saw the beautiful Pacific ocean beyond the Lanai. It looked better than the photos from the VRBO listing. Then there is the condo itself. Beautifully appointed yet very comfortable. The kitchen is modern with all the latest amenities and fully equipped. The bathroom, especially the shower, is simply beautiful. The tile work is exquisite.
One thing we enjoyed was the close proximity to the town of Kapaa. Before we had to drive to get to town but now, all we did we walk out of the condo and stroll along the paved walkway that skirts the ocean. In just a few minutes, you in town. It is great.
There is a lot more one could write but want to keep this brief. We heartily recommend staying here to anyone. I know that when we go back, we will most certainly book our stay right here. Truly, no need to look any further.

We highly recommend this condo. It's got to be one of the nicer units at Pono Kai and has a great location. Ocean view on lanai side and the pool is right outside the front door. It was a bonus to have the boogie boards, flippers, snorkel gear there as well, that sealed the deal for us. The kitchen had all of the items you would need to cook a meal as well. Also, the owners were easy to work with, great place overall!

My husband and I have been coming to Kauai for several years and have stayed in many units at the Pono Kai. This one is hands down the most updated, impeccably clean, and gorgeous unit we have seen. Everything is beautifully remodeled, the condo has everything you need (coolers, beach chairs, etc.), and the view is breathtaking. I would definitely recommend staying here - the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Excellent value for the money.
Kapaa is just a minute away on foot, with tons of restaurants and shops.

What a great condo!!! We have been staying at Pona Kai for 4 years, and this unit was by far the best. A wonderful shower, and new appointments throughout made for a really comfortable visit. The place was immaculate and well-equipped. Super weather this year, with no more than 10 seconds of rain each day. Great people to deal with.

We have spent an extended time each of the past 7 years on Kauai. We believe Pono Kai is the most desirable resort. It is centrally located between the northern extreme and the western extreme of the island in historic Kapaa town. It is within walking distance of quaint shops, unique dining, the library, & grocery stores. There are a multitude of free activities at Pono Kai including a beautiful pool, spa, tennis courts, croquet court, putting greens, horseshoe court, fitness center, and activites desk for discounted island attractions. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept. Pono Kai is right on the beach and on the three-mile walking trail along the shore. We have stayed in three different units at Pono Kai and seen many of the others. This unit is by far the finest we have seen. The appliances, furnishings, and decor are outstanding. Everything you could need or want is in this unit. The breathtaking view of ocean sunrises from the private lanai are without compare. If you want to feel pampered, this is the place. We plan to stay at this unit as long as we come to the Garden Isle.
