Summary:
Pour a sunset drink on the private lanai and look across Prince Kuhio's Birthplace site toward Hoai Bay from Prince Kuhio 319, a breezy one-bedroom Poipu condo. Sleeping four, it gives a couple or small family a special South Shore outlook, plus the ease of a short walk to the beach and a shared pool back at the complex. A Murphy bed in the living room adds flexible sleeping, while split air conditioning in both the bedroom and living room keeps everyone comfortable. Use the full kitchen for breakfast, then head to Poipu Beach Park for a swim or a snorkel. The private washer and dryer mean beach towels are never a problem. With the preserved birthplace next door and Poipu's dining and shoreline close by, this is a meaningful, well-located stay for guests who want a little more than a generic condo view.

The Space:
Full views over Prince Kuhio's Birthplace site and Hoai Bay give this breezy one-bedroom a distinctly Poipu outlook. It sleeps four with a Murphy bed in the living room, and both the bedroom and living room have split air conditioning. A smart TV, dining table for four, full kitchen, private washer and dryer, and lanai keep the space easy to use.

Guest Access:
Guests at Prince Kuhio can use the shared pool and beautifully kept grounds just steps from the beach in Poipu. A private entrance and on site parking make arrival easy, and the property's laundromat and BBQ area round out a comfortable stay.

The Neighborhood:
Prince Kuhio places you in central Poipu, beside the preserved birthplace of the Hawaiian statesman Prince Kuhio and a short walk from Poipu Beach Park. The beach park's coves are popular for swimming and snorkeling, while Poipu Shopping Village gives you nearby restaurants and shops. Walk the coast toward Shipwreck Beach for bigger views, or drive to Old Koloa Town for a different afternoon. It is a sunny, beach-close neighborhood with a real connection to Kauai history.

Getting Around:
Lihue Airport is about 30 to 40 minutes away, a pretty drive across Kauai's south shore. A rental car is recommended to reach Poipu's beaches, Koloa town's shops, and nearby dining with ease. Old Koloa Town is walkable for boutiques and restaurants, while beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. Parking is generally available on site or in small lots around town.

I wanted to love this property, but I just couldn’t. The area is lovely. The pool is not amazing, but exactly as described. It is clean and warm. The bed is fine. It’s not super comfortable, but it’s fine. The listing does not tell you what development this unit is in. It has not seen an update in many years, with the exception of the a/c, which works well. It’s on the 3rd floor of a 4 story building, with no elevator. Seniors and families with strollers really need to know that. Even for us, it was hard getting suitcases up all those stairs. The lobby of the other development, where we are supposed to get parking permits, said they don’t do that. We were told it has to come from the owner. The property manager didn’t know that. The signs say cars without them will be towed. After several emails, one was delivered the next day. The unit needs repairs. The sliding doors from the bedroom to the terrace are very hard to open. I could not open that door. The toilet paper holder’s metal insides are rotted out and it fell off. The knobs are missing from the cleaning closet. Not every outlet works. There is no dishwasher, but there is also no drying rack. There is a dust pan, but no dust broom. There is part of a blender, but not the other part. The couch is comfortable, but otherwise, everything else seems quite old. The shower is tiny-I believe smaller than a cruise ship shower. If we knew, we would have booked elsewhere.

Lovely clean condo! Nice surprise for the cookies, granola and coffee. Easy access to near by beaches , sights etc.The bathroom was really tiny , and the door would stick. The outside chairs on the patio were hard to sit in. The beach chairs were lovely to have but one didnt stay shut when carrying it and one when you sat on it would just fall back. Little things. Overall the stay was lovely. Enjoyed having laundry! Would stay again!

Such a cute and clean place with a nice view of the ocean and mountains from the bedroom, furniture was comfortable and kitchen had all the things to be able to cook and eat in! We knew it had a W/D, one of the reasons we chose this unit but it is oh so convenient! I’m missing things but the thing that stood out the most was the welcome package of cookies and granola and coffee and the CARD Such a sweet gesture that set this place apart from others we’ve stayed with so mahalo for that but really mahalo for it all! Cannot wait to return!

everynight folks gather at the beach, with drink in hand, to celebrate another sunset. Sometimes, if the conditions are right you can see the mysterious green flash. Close to the spouting horn, almost walkable and also close the botanical garden. Try the dinner tour. Unit kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, etc the owner has provide many beach aids.

We really liked the unit and the view. It had everything we wanted. Only negatives: Beach umbrella needs replacing and parking is difficult because we did not have a compact car.

The condo had a very comfortable bed and couch and everything needed to enjoy those days at the beach including chairs and umbrella. Beautiful area with a very nice pool with waterfall. Snorkeling is right across the street...best on the island! Snorkeling

Insider tips

Good to know at Prince Kuhio

  • Right across the street, Lawai Beach offers easy reef snorkeling with green sea turtles and lots of fish, and in the evening the same shore makes a sunset spot just a short walk away.
  • Between beach days, wander the central garden around the pool, a long-established tropical planting of flowers and palms with a koi pond and the soothing sound of the pool waterfall.
  • In the late afternoon, drive about a mile down the road to Poipu Beach, where green sea turtles commonly haul out on the sand to rest before sunset.
