Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Honestly irritated after finding out that if I would have booked through the actual hotel it would have been hundreds cheaper, we would have updated rooms without smelly carpet and mushy drywall in the bathroom and room service. If you decide to go with this place, make sure to pack garbage bags, if you just need 1 more then the 2 in the room it's $9. Parking isn't $30 as stated, it's $45 a night..The one thing this place does have is great views but so do the others.

The host was responsive and great to deal with. The location was very nice close to bus routes and easy walking distance to beach. Place was a bit worn. Oven was broken and duct tape shut, but would not stay closed so oven light was always on. Hanging a towel in front solved that and we did not use oven so no big deal. Rest of kitchen and tools were ok except there were no spoons for cereal. We had our own so again no big deal. Shower was fairly low, so if you are tall you need to bend to wash hair. Main thing we disliked was the water in building tasted awful so we ended up buying bottled water. So All in all by no means luxurious, but it was also not $500-$1000 per night like the Hilton hotel. Bed was comfortable and had what we needed and good location so for the price comparatively we found it pretty good

Our family stayed here in January. It was my husband and myself and our two twenty-ish kids. We very much enjoyed our stay. The location was great and within walking distance of a lot of stuff. There was plenty of room for the four of us, and our kids were able to each have their own room. I had read comments about the elevator being slow and that the washer/dryer didn't work very well, but we did NOT find this to be true at all. It looked like the dryer lint trap had not been emptied in a long time, but we removed the lint and it worked great! The only negative was that there were hardly any drinking glasses, regular utensils (spatulas, mixing spoons, etc. for cooking) and serving bowls. Other than that very minor issue, it was a great place to stay and we would stay there again!

From the first time we made contact with Steve, everything was so smooth. He kept in contact with us throughout arrival and departure. The building is in a prime location, overlooking Wakakki Beach. Walking distance to food venues, bars shopping..etc. We only had to use our rental car 1 day, because we went to the Punchbowl Cemetery, and took a ride to see a waterfall. The penthouse was clean and fully equipped. We just had to find a market to get water, coffee, etc. That was all in walking distance. I highly recommend a stay here on your next visit to Oahu. Thanks for everything.

Go on the actual monarch hotel webpage and rent a room. Its all of the same amenities and same rooms (but way more updated) for hundreds less. And if you need something, the hotel can actually help you. This room on here is through a realtor company and not the hotel. So if you need anything like a trash bag after the 2 they give you, you have to go buy a whole roll from the store below for $9. The room smelt really musty. Maybe because it still has carpet while the rooms are tiled. Or soggy gross walls in the bathroom. Also pay attention to the bathroom mirror. It has a cut out in the middle of the mirror, with a mirror chunk replacing it. The big mirror part has a gap like it should when you touch it with your finger. The weird cut out part has no space between reflection.

Simple place to stay in Wakiki. Walking distance to beaches and good food. Parking sucks, $40 a night, which is crazy, but theres really no other options. Theres no kitchenette, just a microwave and a toaster. Didnt really matter becuase we ate out most of the time. Overall, its just a vaction crash pad and thats all we needed.

First let me say that when you walk in the door the view will take your breath away! The view alone is worth the price. The location was convenient and parking was pretty good. That said, the condo itself is underwhelming. It is definately dated. All of the furniture is quite uncomfortable. If the furniture had been comfortable we would have had a better impression overall. Although some in our party said their beds were comfortable mine was not (I had a twin). The electrical outlets throughout the condo were hit or miss - some worked, some did not. The kitchen stove needs to be replaced. There needs to be better instructions for the 3 A/C units. The window coverings left a lot to be desired. If you leave the windows uncovered during the heat of the day you'll feel like you're in an oven. Problem is some wouldn't close so when we got home at the end of the day we were met with a blast of hot air. The swimming pool wasn't heated so it was too cold to use. We did enjoy the 2 whirlpools although they were tepid & the jets weren't very strong. There was a very nice deck area. I think our biggest complaint was the noise level inside the condo. You heard the traffic noise (especially the sirens) day and night. Outside of double paned windows I don't know what could be done about that. This condo was servicable and we enjoyed our time in Honolulu. It's hard to find a 2 bed/2 bath in our price range so knowing that, we took it for what is was and made the best of it.

Location is excellent so convenient to be right in the begining of Waikiki! Sunrise was amazing from our room window. Traveled with my daughter for the weekend and it was so close to Ala Moana and lots of places to eat. Super cute lot with food trucks right accross the street and an ABC store right next. It is an older property and the room itself could use some upgrades. It was clean but could have used a new shower curtian liner and some fine detail cleaning. Not all items listed and shown online were available in the room. Room is very small not a lot of space for luggage. Worked out perfect for our stay though. No street parking but parking is available for $45 per day ($40 if prepaid for multiple days)

The owner was pleasant, helpful and available to answer questions. This condo is a bit shop worn but clean and comfortable with a good location. The food trucks across the street were fun and it is walkable to some restaurant and retail areas. Public buses are easily accessible if you don’t have a car. Compared to area hotels, this was a good value for two couples!

You can see diamond head and the beach from the balcony. Beautiful views to wake up to! Everything we needed was in walking distance which was good since we chose to not rent a car. They do offer parking for those who do have a vehicle which is another good option.

Cute studio is at the end of the busy strip, which was nice when it came to being able to walk to stores, but not having it too crowded when trying to drive. Place was clean with some necessities. Thanks for the stay!

January 2024

The penthouse was perfect for what we needed. Closest to Waikiki and nightlife. Close to restaurants. Clean and spacious area for our family of 5 (3 teenagers and 2 parents) It came well equipped with beach necessities as well. 2 boogie boards and beach chairs, towels etc. the VIEW is breathtaking. See diamond head, the ocean, sunrises and rainbows from every window!

The host was friendly and attentive. They responded immediately to any request we had and accommodated where they could not address during our time. The unit is dated but still comfy. There is limited bath towels but there is in-unit W/D so you can easily wash them. They provide an ice chest, body boards, sand toys, beach towels, and 2 beach chairs. The grills by pool are clean. Our family enjoyed grilling and hanging out around the pool. There are 2 hot tubs but one1 did not work so it forced us to make new friends while sharing a tight space in the other hot tub lol ... I did enjoy getting to meet new people. We did see any bugs at all in our unit. There are double sinks in bathrooms, 1 full shower, and 1 bathtub with shower. The master bathroom door is a folding door so you don't get full privacy (especially if you have stinky bathroom users). Living room has one futon that would fit a kid or shorter adult. One bedroom has a california king bed and 1 twin bed. The masters has a king bed and 1 twin bed. It comfortably fit 6 of us. The unit also has the living room futon, and 1 foldable twin mat. Elevators are tricky at first. Check the floor numbers on top of elevators to determine which one will actually go up to your floor. Also, a few of the elevators DO require a key card to push the elevator floor number while some does not require it. Bring your key! Minivan fits fine in hotel ramp. Breakfast place in lobby is pricey but very GOOD! Love food trucks across the street

It was difficult to find a place large enough to comfortably accommodate 6 adults and this was one of the few options available. This penthouse worked perfectly for us. It’s a short walk to Waikiki beach, Kalakaua Ave with lots of shopping and restaurants, International Marketplace, Ala Moana mall, and TWO 7-11s. 7-11s on Hawaii are nothing like 7-11s on the mainland. They’re safe, clean, and have a large variety of delicious musubi (rice balls) The unit itself was spacious and had incredible views. We could see Diamond Head, Waikiki, Punchbowl, and the Friday night fireworks. There’s a huge balcony that’s nice to sit on to watch sunsets. The kitchen was well-equipped and had everything we needed for the few meals we prepared. There’s a washer and dryer in the unit, which came in handy. It was nice to have lots of beach towels available. There’s also some beach toys if you have kids. Parking is available for $40/day (cash) or there’s a Hui car rental right in the bldg. There’s also bus stops nearby and you can get to and from the airport for $3/person The location is great. We walked to Zippy’s (best fast food!), Kona Coffee Purveyors (best lattes), House Without A Key at Halekulani (best breakfast buffet). I wanted to go to Arnold’s Beach Bar (heard they have good, cheap drinks) but ran out of time. It’s about block from the unit. Appreciated the clear communication with the property managers. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. Mahalo!

December 2023

First I want to shoutout the owner as he had great communication and instructions leading up to our stay. Our view was amazing! The only issue was the cleanliness but I don’t fault the owner I just think it was due to who they hired. There’s was a pair of black thongs at the foot of the bed and the bathroom was pretty dusty. The overall experience was good. There was a set back with some child pulling the fire alarm which required us to walk down over twenty plus flights of stairs cause pain for the remainder of the trip but it seem like that happens a lot in that building. We did like bring by the food trucks and 7/11 being so close. Hotel staff was great and pizza below was amazing especially on Sunday while watching the football games.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Good for the price, but the showers were SO short.. Granted, I'm pretty tall but even my wife had issues using the shower. We did enjoy our stay though, enjoyable location for a fairly cheap price.

December 2023

Location is only a few blocks to beach and main drag. So price is great for that. I felt they could have cleaned the space a bit deeper, but they sent the cleaner back up. Had an issue with toilet and they got on it right away. I would put in a broom for sure as sand is a given and would be nice to sweep up. Loose the dog picture in the bathroom. Otherwise we could cook our meals and had a great view. We would stay here again as price was good.

December 2023

The unit was clean, located well, easy to check in and out and was very nice. The property management was very responsive when the microwave didn’t work. We had a new one the next day. The only suggestions would be: 1) more shelves on the walls to put clothes from the suitcase. Very tight to move with two suitcases. 2) New mattress for the bed by the windows. It is very old and worn out and when you sit or lie on it, you touch the boards below and it’s not comfortable. Otherwise the accommodations were great! Totally recommend this location and unit for a nice place to stay. Loved the access to the pool and barbecues! Not sue if I received my damage deposit back yet but am hoping that will be coming soon. We left the place spotless.

Whatever you do don’t stay here. They have half blinds in the bathroom so you can see out and they probably can see in when you’re near the window undressing to shower. The shower backed up. They gave us drano, we used the whole bottle and it still backs up. The fridge didn’t get cold all of Our food spoiled. Tried to let the staff know and they didn’t do anything to resolve it. Their staff came In the room While in was in the shower and asked if I needed a towel. I specifically asked them to let me know before they came in the room. And then when I message them about it, they lied and said they didn’t come in the room. Then I messaged him again about it saying that they did then they finally said they did come in. Worst service and worst place I’ve ever stayed at. Communication is very terrible.

The not so good: building is old and tired, the unit is small - not suitable at all for four adults. The good: too many to list but summarized as follows: -Eva is awesome, instant replies and very helpful -Million $ view -corner unit, windows open and the trade winds blow through. We never used A.C once -pool and pool deck are great, best sunny exposure, clean and large - nice gym ( 5$ for your full stay ) - bike locker ( 20$ / month ) - new bbq’s on the pool deck with sink, counters, lights - 20 min walk to the beach - 15 min to Waikiki downtown shops - coffee shop / pizza / sundries / pub in building - kitchen in unit is small but complete - unit was well stocked - WIFI very strong * Overall excellent value: looking forward to our next stay already !

Steve is an absolute super-host and made check-in and all communication seamless. He was so quick to respond to all emails and questions and was very helpful. Fantastic host in every respect. The location of the building is close enough to a great beach and downtown. We had to use Uber and taxis for some destinations, but typically walked everywhere. The building itself is older and very dated, but it had basic but adequate facilities (pool, hot tubs, workout room). Another huge plus was two closets filled with beach equipment (chairs, umbrella, cooler, etc.) The condo we stayed in was definitely dated and older, but it was clean. All things needed for kitchen/laundry were provided and made it easy for cooking and keeping up with clean towels for our group. There were only two things that were sub-par. The AC is VERY LOUD and awkward, and it did not work half of the time in one bedroom. Steve was aware and had waited quite a long time for a repair person who was coming the day we left. The second issue was the king bed was extremely hard, and I ended up sleeping on the couch every night. But other than a few other aesthetic things, the condo served our purpose well, and we would recommend it because of the view, amenities, and gracious staff who work there. And as already mentioned, Steve is a fantastic host. If you don’t need or care about updated/fancy accommodations, this is your place.

December 2023

There was 7 adults that stayed in this penthouse. Plenty of room for all. Easy check in. Other reviews complained about the elevators. We never had an issue with them, considering we were on the 44th floor. The view from the penthouse is beautiful. If I had to say anything negative about this place would only be the mattress on the sofa bed needs to be replaced. Very uncomfortable for an adult. All other beds extremely comfortable. Thank you so much for letting us stay here. We would love to come back.

Stayed here with my wife for our honeymoon. We loved being so close to everything we needed. A lot of good restaurants were around the corner or a short walk away. Beaches are all also so close. The room is small but you don’t really need much as you’ll be enjoying the city. The bed was surprisingly really comfortable.

We stayed for 3 nights and it was fantastic. The condo was exactly how they described it in the listing. It was a little dated but we didn’t mind!

December 2023

Space good for 2 people. Good amenities including kitchen, outdoor pool, gym, BBQ & laundry facilities. Nice view & walking distance to everything. Good idea if host can invest in new appliances, furniture & kitchen ware because those items are very dated. Bathroom can do with new shower curtain & fan. There are other renovated suites in this building, so lots of options.

The most amazing views in Waikiki, both ocean and mountains! We loved looking at the ocean while having a breakfasts. In the evening, we would open the windows and listen to the city sounds while looking at the Honolulu lights. Unit is a bit older but well kept and has everything you need. Walking distance to both Waikiki and Ala Moana (Magic Island lagoon our favourite beach), about 20-25 min fun walk as there is so much to see. I travelled with two teens who loved the stay and exploring around in the evening by themselves (10 min walk to all Waikiki action). They felt safe as there were always lots of people walking around. Lots of food choices, grocery stores around. Right in the building you can rent a convertible Jeep for a day ($150) to explore the island (parking is expensive in Honolulu). This unit is ideal for light and practical travellers, who would use city bus, taxi or love walking around. We used bus to/from airport, Pearl Harbour and loved it. Bus stops are close to the building. Host, Eva, is super responsive. Rental is great value for money. We are planning to stay again and recommend to friends. Thanks Eva for a great stay! We already miss those stunning views!

The Sisters enjoyed our stay on Honolulu and the people at the Hawaiian Monarch were very courteous, from the security personnel, to the individual Owner Steve. Beds were comfortable, we cooked several meals in their fully equipped kitchen and watched movies with easy Roku devices. The views were spectacular and it was very quiet. The pool and jacuzzi needed to be cleaned on the day we used them and this area is shared with the Monarch's other unit owners. Security is good and we always felt safe. It was a wonderful time. Plus-Sized Travellers- This is NOT the place for us fluffy friends. The toilet has got to be the smallest Ive ever seen squished RIGHT next to the shower. You're forced into awkward angles and glass door gymnastics every time you need to use the facilities. I prayed that I wouldnt break the lou every time I sat on it (prayers were answered thankfully) Pros- The room was CLEAN and the view was spectacular. The location of the hotel, especially next to the McCully bridge, was fantastic. The people in the shops and at the front desk were so friendly. The bed was that worn down soft/firm perfection that they get from being well used, super comfortable. Loved the guest book with all its suggestions. The Fridge was a decent size, large enough for our copious lefts overs. The shower had great pressure and nice consistantly hot water. Loved the Roku streaming device so we could watch some americas test kitchen before bed. Cons- On our 1st and 5th night someone prank pulled the fire alarm, at 4am and 11pm respectively. Apparently this happens all the time because there are fire alarms that can be accessed by non-guests off the street. The kitchenware was barely usable, but typical of vrbo stays. The large windows have NO fall protection what so ever, horrifying on the 29th floor. The elevators were slow, clanky, HOT, crowded and frequently only one in operation. For wheelchair users the sidewalks are horrible, and ramps were too steep.

The place is a little outdated but that’s most places in Hawaii in my opinion but the view was STUNNING ! any room you go it is breathtaking . Kitchen are fully stocked with anything you’ll need , definitely could have used more trash bags especially it was 4 adults but not a big deal lol The location is close to everything town side . Parking is $40 cash only which is normal for Waikiki side . We miss it already and We will definitely be staying here again and definitely recommend!

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Checking in and out was messy but at least it was handled quickly when things were brought up. The property was okay definitely could be updated and miner things patched and painted. I stayed for three weeks and it was okay but at least I’m a good location. The laundry room was a plus and the pool was pretty good as well. I think maybe there should be a different protocol if longer stays are happening just in my personal opinion.

November 2023

This property was great for me and my husband, and our parents. The elevators are very quick and appear to have been recently upgraded, so we had no issues like some prior commentors did. Some of the condo is run down, e.g., bubbling paint in places, toilet paper holders fall off walls, but given the view, location, and size, this is an excellent value for the price. Also, when we had an issue with the tv, the property manager was very responsive and fixed it within a couple hours.
Richard P.
November 2023

The condo overall was fine. I had a problem with the bed being up against the window. There was no room to get into from that side and being an older person, it made it very difficult to get into bed every night. The bed was very comfortable just not easy to get in and out of for the second person.

This studio was in the perfect spot: walkable distance to Waikiki Beach and close to bus transportation to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. The room was great for viewing the city and mountains; comfortable bed too. Loved the coffee shop and pizza place downstairs too!

November 2023

We stayed here for a conference with colleagues. Since it’s on the top floor, the elevators take forever (once it took 30 min). There are three elevators but one was apparently always down (per residents we talked with) and they were always shutting down one of the other two for maintenance. It was nice having two bedrooms and two bathrooms and the views were nice. AC was also a bonus although it’s either on or off (bring warm clothes). However the living room furniture is awfully uncomfortable. During our stay, the water was shut down for almost 6 hours one day. We say signs about it on the day of our arrival. We asked security about this and they said there’s a planned shut down once a month (nothing new). When we asked the host about this, they were not open to discussing the impact. We were there for a conference and couldn’t shower before work… it was very frustrating to be lied to and also not have been told up front that we won’t have water access during the stay. For this reason alone, we would not stay here again.

November 2023

The unit was nice. The views were great. The building was run down and the restaurants weren’t really restaurants, more like quick bite places, some with no seating. Rental car place in the building that was great. Location was convenient but very noisy. Sirens all day and night.
