This was our first trip to Hawaii so we didn’t know what to expect. We opened the front door of this property and saw straight through to the magnificent ocean view from the lanai. We sat looking at that view every sunrise and every sunset. The location in Poi’pu is perfect, close to great restaurants and shops. Everything was clean and well organized when we arrived. We really appreciated the binder of information about restaurants, grocery shopping, farmers markets and other helpful stuff. Evelyn was very helpful and super responsive. We can’t wait to be back in Kaua’i! 🌴🌺🌞🍍

Great Stay, would stay here again. The unit was very clean and comfortable, and Evelyn was very responsive to any questions we had. Excellent location between several great beaches.
I made the mistake of assuming "Air Conditioning" meant Central A/C as I am used to. I was disappointed it was only portable air conditioner units with window vents in the upstairs bedrooms, which are loud to sleep with, but that's on me for not clarifying further. There was no A/C in the downstairs living area, just a fan, so when you came home from a day out it was very warm downstairs and opening the patio and front doors never really cooled it down.
The upstairs carpet and baths could use a refresh, but was otherwise comfortable as long as the a/c unit was on.
None of these are dealbreakers--we'd stay here again.

Evelyn was very communicative from months to days before the reservation. The property was well maintained, and all important things to know for check in/check out and settling in were written out in detail. Will look up this property again if I get another chance to visit Kauai.

We loved our Stay! Perfect Location in Poipu for my family. We enjoyed watching the ocean from the living room and bedroom. Sea Turtles swimming right outside the property. Poipu Beach in walking distance. The condo was clean and quiet and we were welcomed with a 100% aloha spirit! Fully equipped with everything you need to go to the beach. I would love to stay here again!!

Our family had a great time at the Poipu property! The facility was great, close location to area beaches and an amazing clean and refreshing pool.
Accommodations were comfortable and felt right at home. Only suggestion would be to add a cutting board in the kitchen (apologies if we missed!) but it was very well stocked and clean.
We left a cooler for other families to use - we needed it for lunches & drinks on the beach. And thank you for all the swimming/beach equipment.

Perfectly located in Popui with a beatiful ocean view. Mid-way walking distance to both Poipu beach and Shipwreck beach. Direct access to the sandstone trail. The first floor is renovated…but the second floor (2 bedrooms) is not. The carpet is really old and it gets really stuffy and hot. Both rooms have AC units but they are very loud and impossible to sleep with. There are ceiling fans but the windows cannot be opened making nights a little uncomfortable. A change of upstairs carpet, central AC and fixing the windows would really transform this condo into a real gem and luxurious perfectly located condo.

Easy walk to the beach! Beautiful Views from balcony and property! Nice pool-not busy. Overall we loved our stay at the house. The only downside that is out of control of the owners is a lower neighbor or guest of the property who smoked in the mornings and later afternoon. The smell would creep into upstairs bedrooms, especially in early morning. Not a great way to wake up, but again that’s not the owners fault, but something people should be aware of in case it’s a tigger.

My husband, adult daughter and her 3 month old stayed for five nights in this beautiful condo. With the baby and my husband working (great WiFi) we spent more time in the condo than a normal vacation so we were happy with how comfortable it was. And the view was amazing. We cooked most meals in the well stocked kitchen.
We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Communication with the host was informative and plentiful. Yes there are stairs but they were not as bad as I feared (short flights, well marked and safe, good handrails).
We walked to Shipwreck Beach but drove everywhere else, although without the baby we could have walked to Brennecke’s and Poipu Beach. Although we did not see whales, we did see sea turtles on Poipu Beach!

The room was very spacious and clean. The kitchen had updated appliances and was stocked with all the essentials. 1 boogie board, a couple kickboards, snorkel gear, two beach chairs, and tennis rackets were there for your use. 5-10 min walk to Poipu Beach, or 10-15 min walk to Shipwreck beach. We received lots of communications from the management company before and during our stay to ensure everything was great. Our experience was great here.

We spent three nights here. The lanai was our favorite as we saw many whales frolicking in the ocean. Everything was just as represented. A couple of minor maintenance problems that will likely be resolved before the next guests. Great location and lovely setting.

This condo had everything we needed to enjoy our stay in Kauai, even though it was very easy simply to settle in on the lanai and gaze at the swaying palms over the sea. You do really need a car, which is easily parked right outside, but there are also easy walks right out your front door.
It was a pity that there was some structural issues with the lanai so orange snow fencing across the front of it. This was more an aesthetic issue that did not prevent us from using it.

This was our second stay at The Makahuena, and this condo is our favorite of all the places we have stayed in Kauai.
The Makahuena is very well located, easy walking distance to beaches both east and west. The property is beautiful, with a well maintained pool, hot tub and surrounding garden, as well as a wonderful view of the ocean and sunsets.
The unit itself was very clean, nicely furnished, with a well equipped kitchen and loads of beach toys. The main floor, including the kitchen, appears to have been upgraded recently.
This condo and The Makahuena property are a great place to stay. Thank you.

Very well equipped kitchen, updated furniture specially downstairs, full size washer and dryer, VERY nice welcome basket with goodies and a pineapple, comfy beds, pillows and towels., A/C in bedrooms, beach chairs, etc. Location is great, close to nice beaches and restaurants. Wi-fi was good too so my boys could do school work and zoom classes without a problem. Having breakfast on the lanai with that beautiful view every morning was breathtaking and relaxing. Novella was really nice, always trying to accommodate our needs whenever possible and replying right away. Public areas and outside of condos need some renovation but inside our condo was great. Just be advised of all the steps to get to the condo and then some more steps up to the bedrooms and 2 full baths. Downstairs of the condo there's a 1/2 bath. I didn't realized the number of steps before I booked and my 77 year old mother had a little trouble going up and down all those steps all the time. Overall it's a great property, very comfortable, beautiful views and we had all we needed in the kitchen! Thank you for everything Novella, we miss Kauai already, can't wait to go back :o))

The unit is great, you have ocean view and may even see dolphins and turtles swimming from your balcony. The grounds are nice, as is the pool. Hot tub was out of service while we were there. Quite a few condos are being repaired, so there was a constant noise factor, and luckily we wern't around during the day. The welcome basket is nice, and the pineapple was rotten. No worries, one text to house manager and we had a fresh pineapple within a short while. Both rooms have AC, and it gets loud. The condo does get hot, and there is no AC in the main living room. Washer and Dryer in the unit, and there are sand toys, chairs, mats, boards and snorkeling gear for you to use. This unit is defiantley not a short walking distance to the beach, altough we did not have any issues finding parking. Split your time between Poipu and Princeville, as getting to North shore from here is quite a task (1.5 hours). As for the unit, yes we will stay here again.

Dissappointed unit washer wasn't working, but Evelyn made arrangements to use washer in unit on same level. Unavoidable delay in delivery of new washer. The basket of snacks,candy and fresh pineapple was appreciated. Believe the reviews about numerous steps...not for the mobility -challanged but worth the view. Enjoyed our stay.

It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We loved that we could see the sunrise and sunset from the property. Our favorite thing was sitting on the lanai and listening to the waves crashing.
On the downside the washing machine didn’t work and the hot tub was closed during our stay. Be aware that there are a lot of stairs.

We have rented this unit for 10 years. Until the pandemic, Kauai has been our yearly destination to vacation and visit family. This was our first trip back since 2019 and it was wonderful. The kitchen has been renovated which makes it a more enjoyable place to cook and the view is just as spectacular as we remembered. The only disappointment was the spa not working. We look forward to returning next summer!

My family of 5 stayed at this property for 9 nights. Overall the property is lovely! The view is fantastic and the crashing waves are peaceful! The lower level is well updated and fit all 5 of us well. The upper level is slightly outdated but was completely fine. There was plenty of items in the kitchen and they have a nice stash of beach items in the laundry room for your use. Novella was very helpful and kind.
A few things to know about this unit;
So many stairs !! Like an M. C. ESHER painting level of stairs. We managed this but would be hard for some people. Taking the luggage up is FUN !! :-|
Hot Water; minimal hot water available in master shower. Since we got sun burnt , we basically took cool showers all week so wasn’t an issue.
Construction; there were emergency repairs needed to part of the building we were in, which made access to the unit difficult. The workers were not pleased we were there. But we managed this as best we could with Novella.
Overall we will be back! It’s Hawaii and the ocean… how could we not ?!! :-)

This was an older property but great quiet area, great views, clean condo with newer kitchen, comfortable beds with a/c in bedrooms, and was a perfect affordable option for my family. It was in close proximity to beaches, shopping, and dining . We prefer spacious two bedroom condos vs overpriced small hotel rooms with the whole family in one room with two queen beds. A very welcoming, bright and clean condo with a great ocean view. We never had time to enjoy the beautiful pool that can also be seen from the balcony. There is A/C available, but we never needed it during our June stay because there were always nice tradewinds blowing and we either had both the front and back doors open or the standing fan on encouraging the breezes. The A/C was used during the evening for the smaller bedroom that faces the parking lot. We did not need it in the bedroom facing the ocean. As others have noted, there are lots of stairs both to get to the apartment and then inside there are carpeted stairs as it is a two-story condo. The stairs were not an issue for us, but some may want to be aware of this. The location is very convenient. Within walking distance is a beach where sea turtles rested from 6 pm until 6 am--a truly amazing sight to behold. Across from this same beach is a nice bar and restaurant--Brennecke's (also the name of the beach). Our contact, Novella, was a pleasure and delight to communicate with so you will never feel like you are stranded if you have any questions. Last but certainly not least, there was a most welcoming gift basket when we arrived complete with a beautiful fresh pineapple! We felt welcomed and cared for and enjoyed our stay in Poipo very much.

We had a wonderful time at this property! The location was fantastic and the view was stunning. We saw turtles and dolphins from the lanai, and walked down to the rocks to see the stunning sunset every night. The kitchen was beautiful and everything was just as stated. We were great fun to have AC upstairs as it did get very hot up there, but the downstairs had a wonderful cross breeze that kept everything comfortable. In general we were very happy with our stay!

We stayed at this property for 9 days at the end of April and really enjoyed it. The views are great and exactly as pictured. The property is very clean. I love the updated living space. Some reviews mentioned the bedrooms being outdated - perhaps it is the furniture not matching the living room but that didn’t matter. It was clean, comfortable and we only spent time in the bedroom at night.
I was worried that the living area didn’t have AC but it was not needed at all. We just opened the front door or the small window in the front and the balcony door and that was more than enough to keep us cool. The bedrooms have individual AC units. The one in the master is quite loud and the bed in the master is also very soft. We didn’t try the other bedroom until our last night and we wished we slept in the 2nd bedroom for the whole trip. The 2nd bedroom is alot more comfortable - the bed offered more support and the AC unit was much more quieter.
There are full size washer/dryer in the half bath. We also found beach towels, chairs, hats, boogie boards, coolers, etc. in the unit.
We used the pool and hot tub daily and it was never crowded. Maintenance cleaned the pools and grounds every morning.
One thing to note is that there are quite a few stairs to take to get to the unit, so it may be an issue for some people.
Overall we are very happy with the property and the property manager is very easy to get a hold of. We will definitely rent it again in the future.

The view is terrific and we had numerous sightings of whales, dolphins, sea turtles and seals. It felt like we were staying at a friend's house. There were welcoming treats, beach towels, sand toys, tennis rackets, etc. for our family to use during our stay. The complex itself is older so it's good to be prepared for that but everything was clean and the owner has made many upgrades to make it as comfortable as possible for guests. The outdoor grills have been recently upgraded also. It was quiet with a mix of full time residents and short term guests and had a nice down home, community feel. We were coming from a newer more polished resort on a different part of the island that was nice but didn't have as much character. We appreciated the aloha spirit here and the proximity to everything Poipu. The management team was attentive and ready to respond to any needs we had, but luckily everything went smoothly and we didn't need to call on them.

My extended family and I just had the most wonderful week in Kauai! Evelyn's property was perfect for us in so many ways. It was extremely comfortable with plenty of room, a spacious kitchen incredibly equipped for all of our needs, air conditioning in both bedrooms, VERY comfortable twin beds, and everything was stylishly decorated and recently renovated. Evelyn provided boogie boards, beach towels, beach chairs, fins, and even a cooler. The location of the condo was terrific! We went out for morning walks along the water or down to the beach, enjoyed our morning coffee while watching whales spouting and breaching in the distance, and we loved visiting the pool and hot tub. The view of the ocean is exactly how it is portrayed in the picture. From the moment we booked our week, we received communication from both Evelyn and the property manager. They answered all of our questions prior to arrival, and we had the most lovely basket of goodies upon our arrival. We were so sad when our week at Evelyn's ended, but we are already talking about when we can go back. We have stayed in many rental properties and Evelyn's Kauai property is one not to be missed!

Four friends had a wonderful time renting this condo unit. It is located in a beautiful area and has a great amount of room with a good flow to the condo. The kitchen is the most well stocked of any VRBO rental we have ever had. Everything from garlic press, juice squeezer, vegetable peeler, and grater. potato masher, electric mixer, etc. We are "coffee snobs" and asked if the condo had a coffee bean grinder. It did not have one, but Evelyn provided us with one we could borrow, which was wonderful service! We did a lot of cooking/BBQing in the rental and the grill area is fairly close to this unit also. The pool and spa area is very nice and kept very well maintained/clean. Sitting on the Lanai to enjoy the whales, dolphins, and sunsets is wonderful. The only issue we had was the temperature inside the unit. With the front door open and the sliding door to the Lanai open, we could generally get a breeze and be comfortable downstairs. The portable air-conditioning units worked well in the upstairs bedrooms, but were way too noisy to run at night and be able to sleep. We are from cooler areas and use to cool nights, so we were too warm to sleep well, but it wasn't because of the beds, as they were very comfortable.

Loved everything about this property. The view is incredible and the lanai is spacious. The cross ventilation is perfect. End unit location allowed for privacy and the ability to keep the door open safely during the day (unless we weren’t there, of course). When we first arrived, there was an overwhelming cigarette and/or marijuana smell throughout the house. The owner/manager said that they noticed as well but they were trying to find out where it was coming from. We did not mind it, since it wasn’t constant. We bought air fresheners and aired out the place. Just posting for anyone who has extreme sensitivity. The beds are very comfortable. Too soft for my husband but not enough to affect his sleep. Other people posted about the air conditioner being very loud…. It was loud but not different from any other unit. The view from the bedroom was breathtaking! The “outdated second floor” in other reviews seems unfair to this owner, as it wasn’t old or musty and far from off-putting. The place was very quiet and relaxing. We stayed 20 days and would have stayed many more. The hot water for showers was not the best at times, but the showers are great. The pool was very cold, the hot tub was perfect, and we Loved the tennis courts. The kitchen was beautiful and updated. The eating area was cozy and we could see the ocean from every part of the house. The couch and chairs were cozy and one swivels to aim toward the lanai. The property is adjacent to the heritage trail and has several on site sunset views. We saw dolphins during lunch!

The unit was just as advertised. It was clean and well - stocked, and the view was beautiful. Beds are comfy, and the kitchen has been beautifully redone. The stairs didn’t cause us too many problems, except when getting heavy suitcases in and out at the beginning and end of our stay. It would be nice to have an office on site, just for times when you have minor issues or questions. We were given a cold reception when we went into the office, and were told it was only a maintenance office. We totally enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this unit.

Can’t beat the view and location of this rental! Main living area is very nicely updated and the lanai is a great place to enjoy a cocktail while enjoying the view. Nice breeze through the unit when front and back doors are open. Upstairs is dated but main bedroom has very comfortable bed. Portable air conditioner is a little loud if you’re a light sleeper but keeps the room nice and cool.

The view from this property is so lovely! The main floor is beautifully redone, and the welcome basket was really thoughtful. The second floor is not like the main floor. The AC units are much needed and welcomed, but are so loud, large and looming. The Master was so loud, we ended up sleeping in the guest room. A heavy sleeper would be fine with it, but we are light sleepers. The shades, decor and finishes in the bedrooms also felt run down, unlike the beautiful main floor. The property itself is okay, but also feels a bit worn. The location is nice, with a short walk to the beaches, including one that regularly hosts sea turtles on the shore! As long as you are prepared for the bedrooms, this is a good choice.

My husband and I were traveling with another couple. We loved that it has two ensuite bedrooms so everyone had their privacy. We loved everything about this condo. The location is amazing for views and a nice walk along the cliffs to the trail around the beach. We loved the breeze that came through the first floor and the air conditioning in the bedrooms made it so comfortable to sleep at night. We had one little issue with the A/C during our stay and maintenance worked hard and got that issue worked out before we went to bed that night. We loved this location and will definitely be going back!

We were 2 couples visiting Kauai. The condo on the 1st floor was beautiful and newly renovated. There was an incredible view!
The 2nd floor was another thing. It was very dated. Portable air conditioners were in the 2 bedrooms keeping the rooms perfectly cool, however the hose was stuck in the window causing old broken blinds not to be able to close.
Having said that, those few things are just being nit picky. If we had known that upstairs was a little tired it would not even have been mentioned.

I would reccommend this condo. The value for the money was very good.

This is a great property and we have rented on the property before. Very well maintained and clean. This condo is exactly as described. The addition of the AC in the bedrooms was needed and worked great. The downstairs has a marvelous trade wind going through when the front door is open and fans. Sitting on the lanai having coffee, reading and having a cocktail is a MUST! You can see the waves crashing and even turtles swimming. The condo is very well appointed with everything you need to get started and has chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, boards, etc. We had excellent dinners around Poipu but make reservations weeks ahead as the island is very busy now. Brenekes Beach boiler is always a place to eat and they have a great brunch on weekends. Our favorite was La Spezia which is home made Italian and the Dolphin Poipu which had amazing fish and sushi and Tidepools at the Hyatt is beautiful with great food. Enjoy!

We did use the portable A/C in bedrooms at night, and it was nice to have it as an option. View is nice and pool is small but very nice. Two sets of stairs to get to condo (you have to go down, then up). We could walk to Brennecke/Poipu beach in about 10min (along neighborhood street- you can’t walk along ocean), but it ended up we generally drove to the beach for convenience.
My disappointment was with property manager communication- on check-in day I received an email saying basically “hope you enjoyed your stay, check out by 10a today”- simple mistake I thought and emailed the manager- she apologized and confirmed it was an email to the wrong person. However- then a few days after our stay I received a curt message in Vrbo that I was being charged $300 for “dint[sic] to new appliances and stained towels and sheets”- I was appalled as there was NO WAY these things happened during our stay. I called property manager and conveyed this and asked if perhaps she had charged the wrong person - she looked into it and indeed confirmed she had accidentally charged me for the previous travelers’ damages! She was very apologetic and refunded me promptly. However this incident put a significant damper on my feelings about this condo. I am still giving 5 stars, but I hope property manager takes more care with future communications!

We stayed for 7 nights and loved this condo. The view is amazing, the accommodations very comfortable, and amenities more than adequate. The kitchen is very nice with everything you may need and bathrooms nice as well. We enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, and walks to Poipu Beach. We highly recommend this property and would book again if we ever visit Kauai again.

Beautiful view and perfect condo for our family of four. Having AC is a must in the summer and we wouldn't have been able to sleep with out it. The ocean view is gorgeous and you can even see sea turtles from the balcony. Having all the extras like boogie boards, beach towels and snorkeling equipment was SO helpful, too. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

I wish I could take the kitchen home with me. It’s a two story condo. On the main level the appliances, furniture, and flooring seemed brand new. Upstairs the bed was soft and sheets soft too. We didn’t use the second bedroom so we cannot comment on it.
We felt very welcomed with a fresh pineapple, macadamia chocolates and fresh flower touches here and there. We got the feeling that our host is a generous person. There was laundry detergent, and basic things like salt, pepper, oil, etc. Sitting in the lanai was like heaven. You can see the ocean just fine. The view includes the pool and landscaped walkways below, so it’s not like you’re looking solely at the ocean, but it is a very beautiful view nonetheless.
The breezes come thru from the front to back. It can get warm upstairs, but there are portable air conditioners in each room. We had a minor maintenance issue, but it was resolved immediately. The property manager was very responsive to it.
We really enjoyed our time there and would def stay again.

The posted pictures don’t do justice to the well appointed condo. The view of migrating whales from the patio was amazing as were the beautifully manicured grounds. We would definitely return!

Absolutely perfect location for whale watching from our lanai, when we were home, from the time we woke up till the time we went to bed we would just hang on the lanai, catch the sun rise, catch the sun set, and just watch the whales frolic, it was awesome. A/C needs constant draining set up as they are heavy and hard to drain and manipulate. Very nice area and property with all you need.

A beautiful place to vacation. Property was well kept and very pretty. Except for the upstairs TV not connecting, internet problems across the island and the very hot weather, our stay was very comfortable. All of the condo was very clean and well decorated. A very pleasant stay.

I've stayed here twice and both times have been excellent. I love the complex and its pool and large hot tub. And I've seen whales and heard their calls from my condo. The Point and its sunset views are wonderful. The entire place is kept very clean and is super-convenient to everything in Poipu. Great value for a great Poipu condo vacation. If I sound like a fan, I am. I'm planning to go back next year.
