Nestled on 12 acres of lush, park-like grounds in beautiful Haiku, our 600-sq-ft studio offers a serene retreat surrounded by nature. Mana Aina, meaning "the power of the earth" in Hawaiian, sits in a privileged location, enveloped by pure air from Hana and the tropical forest flanking Haleakala, a dormant volcano. Enjoy sweeping views across our mature parkland, dotted with ornamental trees, tropical plants, seasonal fruit trees, and vibrant flowers.

Our clean, well-maintained studio features brick and stucco walls, tile floors, and high-beam ceilings. Open the sliding doors to step into our expansive grounds, where nature thrives. On the ocean side, a 50-acre forest provides seclusion, while a seasonal stream flows through a gulch from Haleakala to the ocean near Jaws, one of the world’s premier surfing spots. Neighboring properties are equally tranquil, and quiet East Kuiaha Road ensures peace.

Note: We embrace wildlife and insects as vital to our ecosystem. While we strive to keep them out of the studio, you may encounter geckos or other critters. We minimize their presence in the studio but cannot eliminate them entirely. For a manicured, pest-controlled environment, consider a South Shore resort.

The Neighborhood

Despite its secluded setting, Mana Aina is just a 6-minute drive from excellent restaurants and grocery stores. For organic and healthy options, visit Mana Foods in Paia (10 minutes away) or the Pauwela Cannery for casual breakfast or lunch. The Haiku Cannery offers diverse dining, including Nuka Sushi, Colleen’s Restaurant (burgers, pizza, and more), Vegout for vegetarian fare, and Maui Kombucha Bar. Don’t miss Ahonui Plant-Based Cafe’s food truck at 111 Stable Road, Paia.

Adventure awaits nearby

Wave Season: Witness massive waves at Jaws.
Outdoor Activities: Hike the Makawao Forest, zip-line at Piiholo Ranch, or explore Iao Valley’s streams and pools.
Beaches: Relax at Hookipa Beach Park, Paia Bay, Baldwin Beach Park, Baby Beach, or Kanaha Beach Park.
Culture & Shopping: Stroll Makawao Town for sandwiches at Casanova’s or shop in Paia near Mana Foods.
Hidden Gems: Discover Haleakala volcano, Twin Falls, Poli Poli, Kula, or the Commando Hike.
We’re happy to share more recommendations during your stay!

Perfectly as advertised. A peaceful getaway.

Peaceful and well-kept property in a rural agricultural area of Maui, convenient to explore the Road to Hana and Haleakala National Park. The studio was comfortable and clean with a well-equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom. The California King bed was firm and very comfortable. The Starlink wifi worked well for our wfh needs. The studio is located 0.2 miles from entrance to the property, which is where the trash bin is located to discard trash before check out. NOTE: This is a gated property, and at the time of our trip the gate code was not listed under check-in instructions (it was under driving directions instead). Make sure you screenshot the code before your trip, since cell reception is very poor and you might find yourself parked at the gate without a way to get in.

The apartment is big. Bed is comfortable. The shower need definitely a deep cleaning or a renovation. There was mold in each corner. The kitchen is small and is the home of ant’s, for us it was not really comfortable to cook.

This property is perfectly located close to Haiku, Paia and the start of the Road to Hāna. Easy drive from here to Haleakalā as well. Property was very safe, including an electric gate. Owner was friendly and helpful and there were no noise concerns with neighbours in the other units. Parking was ample and access was 24/7. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a stay on Maui that is affordable and close to all the major amenities and many attractions.

We just spent a week at this property- the description and pictures posted here are exactly what we experienced. The studio is bright and airy with lots of windows and great access to the outdoors, and provided everything we needed. We particularly appreciated the comfort of the king size bed - as we get older we find that having a good night's sleep is very important and we enjoyed 7 great nights! Never underestimate the value of a great mattress :). After spending the previous week in Kihei and West Maui, we really appreciated the serenity and the natural beauty of this property, and the opportunity to just relax in beautiful surroundings. This is a great base to explore the North Shore, the Upcountry, Haleakala and Hana - and experience Maui at its best. But you are still only a 45 minutes drive to Kihei and Wailea and 75 minutes from the beaches at Ka'anapali and Kapalua . Alejandro and his family were wonderful hosts - close at hand and responsive if needed, but never intrusive. We would return to this property again.

We loved our stay on this gorgeous property. Our stay was filled with birdsong and the view of green lush forest. The unit was super comfortable and well equipped. It’s an artistic feeling design.

January 2023
Alejandro's place was just as it was listed, and really away from the hustle and bustle. It was very peaceful and my kids really enjoyed exploring the property. Only thing that you need to be prepared to drive 15 mins to nearby town for all the needs.

This is our third time staying on this beautiful property. It really suits us, as we like a quiet environment with alot of natural beauty. It's necessary to have a rental car as it isn't walking distance to any towns, but that was fine with us. Almost everything that we wanted to do was 5 or 10 minutes away. The studios are all really nice and well equipped. Any time there was an issue, Alejandro and his lovely family were quick to respond. I would definitely recommend this property!

This property is stunning. A very peaceful stay in a great location. Close enough to still enjoy the Kihei beaches. The studio was bigger than I pictured and the photos don’t do it justice. High ceilings, well equipped with everything I needed. I’d stay here again!

After previously staying on the Kaanapali Coast, this VRBO was much more the local flavor experience we prefer. Our studio VRBO was very nice, comfortable, had everything we needed as well as a beautiful view! We will definitely book here again!

Most relaxing vacation ever. 12 acres of remote jungle but only minutes away from everything one needs. Alejandro, his family and their sweet dog Romeo a delight. Already planning a return visit. You will enjoy.

The studio was an excellent find. It had everything we needed and the arrangement of the kitchen, living, dining, sleeping areas is such that it hardly feels like a studio at all--very cool! It was very comfortable and well appointed, very clean and tidy. The overall property is great for wandering around and admiring--lots of greenery to explore! Alejandro was also very attentive and accessible, and his dog Romeo is incredibly loving and peaceful. We also enjoyed seeing his art on the walls. Mahalo!

The studio was more comfortable than I was anticipating and I am so grateful I chose to stay at Alejandro's property. The property's energy is incredibly peaceful, still and quiet. If you are looking for a quiet sanctuary for your stay surrounded by nature this would be a good match. It's also one of the cleanest accommodations I've ever stayed at. Loved the hand-made soap provided in the bathroom. The whole experience was wonderfully easy - check out/check-in with the lockbox and quick attention to any questions I had really worked well for me. Will stay here anytime I go to Maui.

This one bedroom suite is located on an acreage that is gated. It is shared with 2 other similar suites and you barely see or hear the other guests. The suite is adequate, WiFi can be slow by manageable and the AC unit cold enough to sleep to along with a ceiling fan on. What I really like is that it’s centrally located with access points to Hana highway, Up country, Paia, and Central Maui including the airport. It made it easy to get around. With Paia being so close we did a lot of shopping and eating there. Proximity to Hana highway means that we can start early, beating traffic in the morning. Likewise going up country to the summit. Now there is no access or view to the beach but we didn’t come here for that. Our plan was to explore every part of the island and this was a good place to do that.

The property was beautiful and as described. We enjoyed the use if the fridge and kitchen and were able to prepare a wonderful breakfast each morning. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was fully stocked, and we felt very at home.

Everything about the studio, farm, and information provided by the host was great. The location is very quiet and private. The studio itself is both practical and elegantly designed. We hope to stay here again.

This was such a cute place I love how peaceful and quiet it was our whole stay! Not one thing went wrong not one thing was out of place not one speed bump! Accommodations were plenty and all was super clean and amazing! Didn't have much signal here but Wi-Fi ran all our phone stuff just fine! Oh and our puppy friend Romeo is exactly what his name implys a lover! Make sure you give him a good pet!!! Over all this place is homey, close to almost everything but still super quiet and quaint! Thanks Alejandro we'll be seeing you again for sure!

March 2019
We enjoyed our short time at Alejandro's charming place. These are roomy, newly built, and with quality materials. We particularly enjoyed the big tub for soaking. The roaming chickens were a plus! It was a peaceful time in a nice part of the island with the cool, artsy towns nearby. Be sure to read your directions to the property closely (I didn't) because these are subtley placed cabins on a private road and can easily be driven past (like I did).

December 2018
My partner and I were seeking a quiet, peaceful accommodation that would provide us with the sense of "escaping it all" - and we found it at this property! Alejandro's property feels remote, without being too far away from local amenities and popular destinations. We are nature lovers, and enjoyed observing the birds and chickens in the yard in the morning, the gentle evening and morning rain-showers (and the rainbows they brought with it!), the endless sky-full of stars when the clouds parted at night, and the tranquility of our spacious, comfortable studio set amongst it all. Alejandro left detailed instructions for locating the property, unlocking the doors etc., and clearly laid out what was required and expected upon check-out and during our stay (nothing unreasonable - be respectful of neighbours, avoid wearing shoes inside, how to use the t.v. etc.). Alejandro also made sure to be available for anything we needed and was warm and accommodating. If you are looking for an escape, with a rural/tropical feel, I highly recommend this place! Since the property is just outside local towns, you'll need a rental car, but I would suggest you have one anyway to really be able to get out and experience all that Maui has to offer. Thank you Alejandro for a memorable stay! We hope to see you again :)

The place was exceptionally quiet. This place is away from everything and is really nice to get away from the rest of the tourist areas. Due to our itinerary, we were unable to enjoy the property. Just a heads up, there are chickens roaming around. You will hear them in the early morning, but not bad. Kitchen was very good. Utilized the pans and dishes every night of our stay. Shower was very good. Bed was very comfortable. Towels were adequate, although, being there for 5 nights, could have supplied a few more wash rags for our stay. The internet was ok, but, if streaming a you tube video or movie, it definitely lags in video quality and consistently pauses. Just one thing to keep in mind, as it says in the description of this property, there is no a/c. Not a issue for our stay, but, it was humid more than usual during our time here according to the locals. Opening all windows and running the fans helped. Having been sun burned a few times, along with the heat, made for some uncomfortable nights. All this aside, it does feel better in the early mornings. One other thing, possibly from having to leave windows opened and allowing the air to circulate, we did find several small insects in the room during our stay. All-in-all, a good stay and would come back again.

My and I family loved loved loved this place. We loved the space, the quiet, the chickens and the proximity to wonderful beaches and towns, and the comfortable distance from the hoards of tourists. Within 24 hours we referred to the studio as home. We can't wait to go back.

The property & unit were wonderful. My husband, our 20 month old daughter and I loved our time spent there. The unit was spacious, clean and had a beautiful view of the farm. Alejandro had the unit set up for us with a crib and a highchair - it really made our stay with our daughter easier! The property is beautiful - we enjoyed waking up to the sounds of nature every morning. Our daughter especially loved the chickens that live on property! When we return to Maui this will definitely be our #1 choice for a place to stay!

January 2018
We were very pleased with the accommodation. We had a very roomy studio apartment with a great king sized bed, full kitchen, huge bathroom and a nice eating/sitting area. The unit was well equipped for cooking. Patio doors all along one wall overlook a nice lawn and wooded area. The unit was very clean and quiet. The landlord Alejandro was around to meet us and we also met his mother Mrs. Goya who lives on site. The location is rural but only a few minutes off the Hana Highway and very close to the bustling towns of Pa'ia or Makawao. Four friendly red hens provided my morning coffee entertainment out on the patio. Close to beaches (we liked Baldwin Beach Park). Check out the sea turtles that come into nearby Ho'okipa beach after 3:00PM to rest on the rocks (east end of the beach). We would recommend this spot and would return when we are in Maui next time. Great value at this price.

July 2017
My friend and I stayed here because we wanted a quiet place so we could rest up before and after our "Cycle to the Sun" bike race. Well, we were not disappointed! The studio and property was clean and well-maintained and the kitchen had everything necessary to cook your own meals. As it turned out, we cooked half the time and visited restaurants the rest of the time --hey, we're on vacation! The units have a roomy open-design feeling which suited us well. The owner, Alejandro, is very personable and helpful and is available if you need anything during your stay. The property is a short drive to the town of Paia and beaches but removed enough to provide the peace and quiet that defines a real vacation!

This is an amazing place to stay on the Maui's North shore. A stunning 12 acre property, peaceful and very quiet. Definitely a beautiful place to make it your vacation's homebase since it is near many restaurants and the beach. By the way, this place has its own legend: windsurfing champion Francisco Goya along with his mother and siblings bought this property on 1993, back on the golden years when the sport was booming. If you decide to stay at their comfortable and very clean studio , chances are you will meet the family and they will immediately make you feel at home. Totally recommend it!

October 2015
If you want a quite get away, this is your spot.. Very clean and well maintained. Fantastic customer service! We happened upon this place at the end our Maui stay and would defiantly go back. It is not on the beach, but very close to Hana Highway. Was nice change of pace and loved eating fruit right off the tree.

October 2015
The studios are as exactly as described on the web site and provide for all you need to enjoy your stay with good support from the family owners. The location is not interrupted with any traffic noise or outside interference and there is plenty of space to sit in solitude and reflect on one's most inner thoughts if that is what you require. By the same token a short 15 - 20 minute drive will take you to Paia where there are eating places a plenty. From upmarket Mama's Fish House to smaller family friendly establishments operating all day! There is Paia Beach to hand and a little further on the wide expanse of Baldwin Beach Park and natural beach with no buildings to spoil the sky line. Closer is the challenging Ho'okipa for the windsurfer or surfers among you. For those that aspire to high end shopping a journey to Lahaina or Kihei is available within the hour!! So much to do and so much to see all within easy reach and your return home is matched by the peace and tranquility of Mana Aina! Come and enjoy the quiet comfort provided.
