The location of this place is great, we love this neighborhood. We first stayed here about 8 years ago. There have been some very nice upgrades to it since then. New mattress, couch, outdoor furniture and ceiling fans. Place was clean, plenty of starter products and toiletries that got us the 2 of us through the week. Sunrises from the lanai were fantastic. Definitely would stay here again.

The property more than met my expectations as I found myself saying wow a lot during our stay. Paradise Cliffs is just beyond the backyard. It was beautiful. HPP is a beautiful and strategic place to stay to explore all the wonderful places on the Hilo side of the island. There are lots of birds, lizards, & geckos all around the house & the geckos know how to get inside the house. Its cool. I hope to return again in the future.

A lovely, spacious house with a view of a spectacular rugged coastline. Between the property and ocean is a road which is great for walking and jogging. The house includes a huge master bedroom and bath, along with two smaller but adequate bedrooms, and a hot tub in a room off the living room. If you want a swimming beach, go to a luxury hotel near Kona on the other side of the island.

This place was a dream! Close enough to adventure & town if we needed, yet completely felt like our own oasis. Very clean & comfortable. When we come back, this is where we’ll stay!

We (two couples) really enjoyed our stay at this house, especially the quiet location, ocean views, lovely birds, nearby hikes, and the big common areas where we could hang out in the spacious living room, large kitchen, or ocean-facing patio. We cooked a lot together and had everything we needed, though maybe could add a few large serving bowls and a pitcher for iced drinks. The beds and sectional sofa were very comfortable. Would stay here again!

Our family of 4 loved this beautiful, clean and spacious home. The neighborhood feels safe and we enjoyed walking on the coastline path behind the house. It seems to be a popular spot for small late night gatherings on the weekend, but the noise was not too troublesome. It was fun sleeping to the sounds of coqui frogs and waves and waking to roosters and crashing waves. The kitchen is a delight to cook in and everything was in working order despite some funky electrical stuff. Location is not too far from grocery/restaurants/Hilo/volcano, not walking distance though. Be sure to get dinner at Kaleo’s!

This charming house, within a moment's walk of the cliffside and ocean, is in a fairly remote location. At first we wondered if it was too remote, but by the 2nd day we were there we were delighted with the peace, and comforted that a modest drive got us to anything we wanted to see, and any services we needed. That said, there is often traffic on the highway from Hilo that did make travel a bit of a drag. The house was meticulously clean and organized. Loads of towels, comfortable bed and excellent appliances, (with the exception of a toaster oven in need of replacement). We loved waking to the sounds of the surf and the birds, and taking sunrise walks along the cliff, watching the waves roll in. A perfect place for rest and restore, and within 30 minutes of the Volcano National Park.

This was our third time staying at this property and we love it! BUT it has severe water pressure problems. At first we found that we could only use one water fixture at a time. So do not use a sink or flush a toilet anywhere in the entire 3 bedroom with 2.5 bathrooms while you are showering or you will be standing there with only a dribble of water in the shower. This is ridiculous for such a nice and relatively (at least for our family) expensive property. But we dealt with this for a couple of days until I took a dribble shower with no other water running in the house (I was policing the entire family). At which point I complained to the property manager. They sent a technician and we were told that they cleaned a filter and when we used the water next it was LOVELY without any concerns of multiple water fixture use. This should be better managed by the property!!! We were given a very small discount for our inconvenience. Only other minor complaint were the master bedroom windows which have a direct view of the ocean - if you could see out of them! They are so covered in what I imagine is salt water buildup that they are more opaque. Which is a shame because it is such a amazing view. None of this is to say we would not stay here again. BUT definitely contact the rental company immediately if any plumbing issues - don’t wait like we did.

I loved this unique house with a beautiful view. You can walk out the back gate to access the rocky coast. You feel like you are out in the jungle, and the tree frogs sing in the evening. We really enjoyed our stay.

The property and the location were fantastic. The only real problem is any type of restaurants or grocery stores are 25 minutes away so arrangements need to be made to stock up on food and beverages prior to checking in or face a 50 minute round trip drive over the same roads you just traveled. I have stayed at several Vrbos and this facility did not have as many of the minor items such as a bag of coffee, waxed paper, salt, pepper, etc. many small items you would only use one or twice and hate to pay for and not take home because of size. Other than this one feature, the facility is perfect for the price.

This house is well-located between Hilo and Volcano National Park, half a block from the ocean and cliffs, and It is a very comfortable and easy house to be in, with spacious rooms, a large kitchen and gorgeous views (and sounds) of the ocean. The house is tucked away at the end of a long road in a residential neighborhood so come prepared with groceries, including pantry items (salt/pepper, oil, etc) or drive 20 + minutes for supplies. Many good restaurants located 20+ minutes away. We had a great time here and recommend this home.

Home is very big & view is amazing. Wasn’t to happy with a lot of things in home, such as a few unfinished details like the pool. No listing of a unfinished/under construction to home was given. Bathrooms don’t have curtains/blinds that May expose us showering. A lot more but don’t want to list then

This was a wonderful stay and we really enjoyed the property! We initially did not receive our check-in info and the property manager did not respond to our in-app messages, but once we called the property manager we were helped quickly and the necessary information was sent to us. I would highly recommend staying at this property because it is spacious, close to the ocean, and close to activities and food. Thank you, we really enjoyed our stay!

We had a marvelous stay in this lovely home (4 adults, 1 child). The view out the back side of the house is spectacular. You are literally 100 feet from the ocean. You enter on a landing a few steps from a spacious and open living/dining/kitchen area. There is also a hot tub. Downstairs are two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry room with washer/dryer on the lower level. Upstairs is a beautiful master suite with the best view of all. In summary, the place is spacious, beautiful and tastefully decorated. If there wasn't so much to see on the big island, we could have been happy spending all day everyday in this place.

While remote location, this house was really cool, spacious and lovely views from the lanai. Short walk to the cliffs overlooking the ocean and great spot to watch the sunrises on the lava. Well stocked kitchen and soft beds. Master suite is amazing, and the outdoor shower for the downstairs bedrooms was certainly invigorating...quite chilly air in the morning but nice hot water! Pretty easy to find location, but glad we did it in the daytime the first day- it seems like you drive forever down a hilly street with no lighting. We never found the guestbook to sign, but would have said thank you- we enjoyed our stay! One suggestion-light on exterior door would have been helpful to retrieve the key from lockbox each night...it was a little finicky to maneuver in the dark.

Mele Kai was a good House. It’s huge open floor plan was great..the HotTub on the screened in porch off the kitchen living area was nice to have...good for relaxing even when it’s raining out(which was most of the time) there is a nice local feel to the property. Big master suite with cool views...overall a good experience.

We loved the location, just across the street from lava cliffs overlooking the ocean. About 25 minutes from Hilo and 45 minutes from the visitor center at Hawaii Volcano National Park, it is convenient yet out of the way. Pleasant walks to Kaloli Point or Maku'u point on days you don't feel like driving. The beach park across the street can get noisy in the late afternoon or early evening, but usually quiets down when it gets dark.

We loved our stay, the property and location were amazing. We hope to rent this home again in the future. Water pressure took some getting used to, but I’m just assuming that’s what a rain water system is like. The only two issues were the oven door and the washer held a mildew smell. I think the door needs to be left open. The property management company worked well with us as well. You won’t be disappointed.

Mele Kai is a beautiful home with an amazing view...we literally did not mind staying in and just staring out at the ocean EVERY day! We loved to sleep with the windows open and listen to the waves and coqui frogs. We already decided if we make it back to the island, we'll stay here again.

This house is beautifully designed and constructed. The open layout is great for vacations. The huge master bath with walk-in shower made mornings a treat. The custom tile work was very Island appropriate. Features we especially enjoyed were the wifi, laundry, and that there were enough basics like condiments and paper products to get us started. The views were awesome and we loved falling asleep to the rhythm of the surf. The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe and secure. We saw whales playing a couple hundred yards offshore. That was a treat. I probably would have gone 5 stars except for the appliances that are in desparate need of upgrading. We tried to re-heat some pizza we brought from a restaurant in Pahoa, but the hinge was broken on the oven door and we could not get it to close. Also, the oven door had baked on crud on the outside and peeling coating. The toaster should just be tossed. And the refrigerator has a failing compressor unit that knocks 3 or 4 times when it cycles off. The first time we heard it do that was the night we checked in and it sounded like someone knocking on a window! The location is beautiful but a long way from stores or restaurants. We mostly eat out on vacation, so this was not great for us. But, it was closer to the items of interest on the south part of the island, like Volcanoes NP, so for that it was good. Despite the appliances, which I am sure will be fixed at some point, we loved it here and would definitely consider it if we visit the Big Island again.

Loved this house. It has a LOT of room and nobody feels cramped or crowded. Just close enough to the sea to get the soothing sounds at night and no need for AC with the breezes. The only downside was the oven had a few issues with the door, and the hot tub had a heavy chemical smell, so we avoided it. No need for it anyway, because we found it a perfect place to get to everything on that side of the island. Short drive to the botanical garden, and not far to the Volcano or lava trees.

High ceilings kept the house cool. Generous roof overhangs kept the rain from the windows. We enjoyed the hot tub! We've already booked our next visit.

We had 5 people and had so much room. The house is laid out well and the kitchen was big enough for everyone at the same time. So nice to go to sleep with the sound of the waves. there were mostly positives at this place. The only negatives were some issues with the oven door, but we got that one solved. the only other negative was that some of our group weren't thrilled with the outdoor shower in the guest bath, but they learned to live with it. There was quite a bit of late night traffic outside the bedrooms on the ocean side as well.

We very much enjoyed the beach house there is only one problem. The house sits back from the ocean and the road behind the house is where the locals come to party every night from 5-6 until 10-11. The music is loud and there is a lot of broken glass. Otherwise the house has all the amenities one could hope for.
