The bathroom fan is inefficient and rattles. It’s ridiculously hot in the bathroom. The shower constantly dripped. There were two burners missing on the stove. This place has the most spectacular views though.

While the location of Halr Kai is nearly perfect for us, the condo we rented has seen its glory fade to a shabby version of its former self. We arrived to a rather dark, dingy apartment with nine burned out lightbulbs, numerous unworking power plugs, rotted window frames, filthy furniture, and a next door neighbor (full time tenant wovrks for the complex) with a barking dog. I’ve stayed at Hale Kai three or four times previously — the first time in 1985, and each of the units have been very pleasant. Unit 112, not so much. The crew at Hale Kai were great! They were all smiles and helpfulness. As I said, the location is fantastic, with a community park next door and a pool overlooking the ocean. The grounds and exterior are meticulously groomed.

We love Hale Kai and have been brining our growing family for close to a decade. #211 was nice and spacious and was wonderful to have the upstairs loft and bathroom for our kids. The unit is a little dark (which helped everyone sleep), and not as ocean front as we are used to, but it was clean and well maintained. Could use some upgrades, but you can't beat the location of Hale Kai.

This condo is right on the ocean and tucked into a great walkable neighborhood (coffee across the street, ABC store, grocery).
If you don't like falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean this condo probably isn't for you or at least bring some ear plugs.
The condo itself is nicely laid out and well appointed. No AC but there are fans and the ocean breeze.

Love the Hale Kai & have stayed In 1 bedroom units several times in addition to numerous times in Unit 120 (which is the very best location just steps from the ocean & a small beach). There are two well-maintained BBQ's on the property as well. We were treated to watching whales breaching nearly every day of our stay! The unit was very clean and property managers (Valerie #1 and Valerie #2) are the best and quick to respond to any questions or needs. The fact the deadbolt on the front door does not work should be corrected promptly as that is a safety issue and reported to management the day of our arrival. We love the Hale Kai and we will be back!

I loved looking out the window at the bird activity at the park next door, had coffee on the patio every morning, watched the sunset at the park. Watch for the opening time of shops. The market closes early and is not open on Sundays. Enjoyed Slappycakes for breakfast, the Gazebo for lunch and Duke’s for dinner.

Great view of ocean on 2nd floor balcony, but Condo was old with outdated appliances and living essentials. Bathroom is old and dirty. Toilet needs replacing. Walk in shower needs replacing. Old electric kitchen stove needs replacing. Very dull kitchen knives. Only 2 raggedy kitchen towels and wash cloths. Balcony sun shade stuck with birds building a nest in it. Bedroom in back noisy with traffic. Perhaps the owners would be interested in this review to do some upgrades? Mahalo for sharing your Condo though!

6th year #217. feedback- departure day, asked for late check out. it was a busy day for cleaners, but there were other units unoccupied that she could have cleaned first. Other renters said same thing- long-time renters are working around the cleaners being inflexible rather than the cleaners doing unoccupied units first. Some of these people have been coming 30+ years. Seems like the cleaning people's schedule trumps renter's preferences. I understand sometimes not possible, but the chat is that the cleaning crew is getting more inflexible and doesnt understand customer service. As an aside our unit was cleaner than it has ever been, so kudos to quality cleaning. Any chance management could talk to Maria about the schedule issues. Happy to pay for late check out

Whale and turtle watching from the deck was fabulous. Site offers something for everyone. Son-in-law and daughter are able to enjoy snorkeling and granddaughter enjoys exploring and running on the beach as well as swimming in the pool. Am concerned about the condition of the property. Great location, friendly patrons and perfect Murphy beds. It's great hearing the waves crash at night, being next to the ocean. There weren't a lot of people there so that was nice. Pool was cooler than I was hoping, but the the ocean at the doorstep made up for it.

This was our first trip to Hawaii. The location was phenomenal. We enjoyed our trip and would stay again if we were to go back to Maui. The condo was well stocked with everything we needed. I had reahced out to owners a few times with several questions before our trip and every time my questions were answered very promptly. We loved this property. Sandwiched between the ritzy tourist areas of Kaanapali and Kapalua, this little condo in Hononkwai was just what we were looking for. It is in an older, interesting neighborhood right on the water with an ocean park right next door. The unit is in a 1980’s era, two story condo building, but the unit is completely redone and had everything we needed. We watched whales from our patio and sea turtles swam right onto our beach. The pool is great. The hosts are responsive if you have issues. Easy parking. Close to the road so it is a little on the noisy side. We would definitely come back.

Condo was dated and needed repairs . Half the electricity went out our last 2 days and couldn’t be repaired . Did not look as good as pictures portrayed it. Was nice location and on a small beach and nice pool area . Bed and bedding were very comfortable. Was definitely not worth the price we paid however. I would have expected more for the price. Probably would not stay there again .

This property was great. The location was wonderful! It was very clean. We loved being right on the ocean and being adjacent to a beach.
My only complaint would be it was noisy. It's an older complex so thing are not made like newer places. We could hear our neighbors and even the screaming kid in the other complex. So keep that in mind. We would stay here again.

Hale Kai is a gem on the water. This particular unit is ground floor with ocean view off the patio and front door is right on the pathway to the pool and bbqs. The property is all well maintained. Customer service is great. This unit itself is very run down. Has most all amenities and great location in the complex. Needs some TLC. There is a new owner; a new chair & sofa bed were delivered recently so perhaps they are in the middle of fixing up. Sleeps 4 adults comfortably. Or 3 adults & 2 little ones.

We loved our stay at the Hale Kai. The unit is as described and accurately represented in the photos. We loved the location and direct access to the pool and beach. It was also well stocked with beach gear and all the essentials.
We had several turtle sightings and even had one come up on the beach.

We loved our stay! We arrived to find everything exceptionally clean and we were so comfortable throughout our stay. We were just steps from the gorgeous beach, where you can see Molokai from the sand.
We were able to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores. We were also just down the street from the resorts so we were able to access those easily to eat or shop as needed. This was perfect for a couple and we would definitely return again!

We loved our stay at Hale Kai #103. The building itself is in a really great location of West Maui adjacent to Honokowai Beach Park and close to the best beaches like Ka'anapali, Napili, Honolua, etc. Unit #103 is situated right at the water's edge and next to the park so the kids can climb the tree, search for shells, play at the park, and with the reef so close to the sand, it provides a nice barrier for younger kids to play in the surf safely. The pool is nice and overlooks the water. Plus the condo itself had all the amenities one would need for their stay in Hawaii.

The view from this condo is beautiful. The condo is well stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans. They also have beach chairs and an umbrella to use which came in very handy. The pool area is very nice with comfortable lounge chairs. The location is across the street from coffee shop,small farmers market, snorkel rental shop. I would highly recommend this condo..

We arrived the day of the firestorm. It was WINDY coconuts were falling on the road. We had no electricity or communication and worst no propane (we heard that they've been out of propane for 2 wks) residents were preparing their food going down to the BBQ to find out there was no way to cook their food- We had to toss eggs & shrimp etc. Thankfully Latino mkt opened Wednesday and we got 2 cans of bean, tortilla, cheese to make a burrito which was our only meal on Wed & Thurs - We weren't able to do any of the tourist things & understandably not at no fault of Hale Kai. Don the Mgr? at the condos was as helpful as he could be. The radio kept saying for road conditions go to but that was impossible with NO internet. Don would pass on what he heard. We got a flight out on Friday morning. So please take this into consideration when you read my answers to the question. We weren't able to go anywhere. Luckily the people where nice & the place/view was comforting. I'm sure any other time I'd give it a 5 star....maybe 4 because the propane would have help numerous guest.
