My son and I are regular Maui visitors. We stayed away longer than usual because our last trip was 2018 and then Covid. We usually stay in Keihei. This is only the 3rd time we have stayed on this side of the island but we will DEFINITELY come back to this space. The condo is beautiful, the property set up with direct access to the ocean and a heated pool was amazing, there was another beach that was a literal 5 minute walk and across the street from that beach was a great little market and an AMAZING gift store with all Maui made items. Our trip was short but great. Vicki the property manager was friendly and attentive. There was a bottle of pineapple wine and chocolate covered macadamia nuts in the room as welcome gifts. The bed is totally amazing and the pull out couch was so much more comfortable than I had anticipated. We rotated through both spaces because we all wanted a day when we got to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves, and open your eyes to this view!! My only suggestions would be to get some metal straws for the kitchen. I wanted straws because the tumblers were huge and finding ones outside that weren't paper was a challenge. But we were soo soo happy with 202 and we will be back!!

Beautiful condo with incredible view. We were able to watch sea turtles in the ocean most days from our lanai/balcony. Very clean with full kitchen and in-suite laundry!
Also has ocean access which was perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
Is located in quiet area, around 10-15 minute drive to common restaurant areas.
Overall, would recommend!

The ocean view from the condo is amazing! We could even see whales from the living room. We loved the permanent sound of the waves. We had everything we needed in the condo. The bed was very comfortable. I got to talk to Tammy when I booked, she was very nice and helpful. We will surely go back.

We enjoyed our week stay. Property was clean and as expected. Unobstructed views and access to the water was great.
We were surprised to find out they were doing construction on the patio during the day. For us it wasn’t a big issue as we were up early and out most days. It will be a beautiful upgraded space when complete.

When we booked the room we were informed that there was construction being done. We had a room on the 2nd floor fortunately, so we were able to enjoy the wonderful view. The office help, Tammy and Debbie were very helpful and friendly. The room was very nice and had everything we needed. We would stay at Makani Sands again and recommend it to our friends.

There was massive construction/Beach restoration going on obstruction ocean view and with loud noises. Couldn't open our balcony as there were #of workers standing right in front. There was no cable TV as it was out of service. Apartment itself was clean and in a nice neighborhood.

This property has everything you could ask for.
The management was always on top of everything. The view was spectacular. The balcony is about 50 feet from the ocean. We swam in front of the condos every day, while enjoying the sunset with guests and residents every evening.
The property was in a great location. A couple miles from everything we wanted to do, yet quiet and away from the crowd. No A/C, no problem. The cross breeze was great and we were never too warm. We will definitely be back.

We loved Makani Sands and will definitely stay here again - saw so many sea turtles, enjoyed beautiful sunsets, condo was nice and clean, minutes drive to numerous great snorkel beaches. We were so happily surprised that condo includes nice beach chairs, umbrella and even beach towels, what a bonus!! Tammy could not have been nicer to work with! The renovation was the only tiny let down, but we thought the 25% discount took the sting out of that! Thanks Tammy for a great vacation celebrating our 40th anniversary! Hated to give property condition as a 3, after renovation, it will definitely be a 5, I hope we get to come stay again then!! Edit: read review from another that stayed in 202, which was our condo as well - he's right about the sheets, they were pilled - we had not stopped and thought about that, maybe a new set of sheets would be a good investment.

The property is located right on the beach with a spectacular view and the water here is less aggressive than in Lahaina.
The furniture and bed covers are old and I didn’t want to sleep on or under them. The towels and sheets are nice and clean.
Because it’s so close though, I think the sand gets inside and onto the floors. Bring house slippers. Property management should supply better mops as the vacuum simply moves the sand around, the broom doesn’t pick up everything and the squeezy mop is too small.
There is carpet in the halls that makes the place look like a 2* motel. It needs to go.

This is my second stay at Makani Sands. I stayed there in May, 2021 and decided to come back here. I enjoyed swimming in front and ocean views from the lanai every day. Office managers were friendly and very kind. People staying at this condo were quiet and kind. I will definitely come back here soon.

We stayed here in June, 2022. The property is beautifully maintained and has easy access to the beach. You literally can go for a swim for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a swimming pool but we didn’t use it at all. We stayed on the second floor and had an amazing breathtaking ocean view. The condo is comfortable, clean and equipped with all necessary things for our stay. The property is conveniently located within walking distance to coffee shops and the fish market. We loved our coffee at Cruzin’ Cafe in the morning. I would recommend to stay here.

We rented this unit for 7 nights. While the location on the water (saw some turtles and even a couple of whales) and walking distince to nearby businesses was nice, there were a few things that if I had known in advance I would have checked other condos resorts in this area.
First, no AC. Maui is a humid place and while I guess it's common to rely on the tradewinds to cool you at night the bedroom windows face the front of the building so you can't leave the blinds open to get a nice cross breeze because there are bright lights in the hallway and people can walk by and see into your bedroom. Second, the king bed was lumpy and uncomfortable (and probably overdue for replacement). Also, the sheets were pilled, giving them a very worn feeling and the mattress pad was stained and gross. Third,. no where in the property description does it mention that the beach washed away and getting to the ocean is very difficult (and possibly dangerous?). The property images show a nice beach in front of the condo complex.
The property manager was very nice and the people we encountered (renters or maybe owners) were also very nice.
However, had I know about these issues in advance I would looked elsewhere to stay.

Everything was perfect! Absolutely loved our stay! Tammy was super helpful in every way! No actual beach access as we came in March, but we knew that in advance. All of the rooms face the water and present a spectacular view of the beautiful sunsets each evening. Would definitely stay again!

Lots of good space for my partner and me. Has an amazing view of the ocean and we watched many beautiful sunsets right from the balcony. The condo also has a good collection of kitchen equipment for cooking! Bed was comfortable as well. Only item we wished could have been improved was the cleanliness of the floors. Although the tile looks clean, when we went to clean something off the floor, there was a lot of dirt. Besides that we just washed our feet before bed and it was not a problem. Location was an easy drive away to all of our destinations and away from the craziness of the other resorts. Check-in was very easy and my quick encounter with Tammy was wonderful. I would definitely stay here again!

Our experience at Makani Sands was nothing short of perfect. The location was great for us, our friend who lives in Maui was right across the street, and we were nearby to stores, beaches, and the main roads to all our family excursions. We were able to watch the whales from our lanai every day and even had a sea turtle swim up to us while we took a swim behind the condo. Sunsets were perfect. The condo was stocked with everything we could possible need to make meals. Our 10 and 13 year old slept comfortably on the pull out sofa bed and we all enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the ocean outside of our window each night. We definitely plan to come back and would absolutely book with Tammy at Makani Sands again ! Mahalo!

One of many things we like about Makani Sands is that it is relatively small with only 30 units, each of which overlooks the ocean. We rented condo 202, a one bedroom unit on the second floor. It was recently updated and nicely furnished. Everything was in order and the unit is a very comfortable size for two. We were four adults the previous visit and had rented a three bedroom unit which was quite nice as well. The grounds are well maintained and the pool is heated. We enjoy the quietness of Makani Sands which in part is due to only 18 of the units are available for rental to guests. The only drawback is that because of the property's proximity to the shoreline, the beach disappears with the winter erosion cycle and is redeposited during the summer. But the lawn area above the breakwater it beautiful and there are many beaches along this part of the coast. Managers Tammy and Debbie are wonderful hosts, always looking after the property, and a great source of island info and suggestions.
