We loved the location of this condo. It was nice to have access to coolers, beach wagon, boogie boards, beach towels and beach chairs since we were traveling as a family. The lanai was really nice and we cooked many meals while staying at this property. There was a used diaper in one of the laundry bins when we arrived, therefore gave it 4 stars for cleanliness, otherwise it was very clean. The dryer did have some difficulty operating due to an error message, but we were able to get it working. Love being able to do laundry while away so that arrival at home is easy, without loads of work to do. The front bedroom doesn’t get as cool using the AC as the back master bedroom, definitely recommend the use of a fan.

Unit is even better than the listing describes. Beautiful decor, very well equipped and stocked. Quiet location in a gated community within Waikoloa Beach Resort which has entertainment, dining, and shopping options. Would very much like to return!

We love Kolea, and this comfy unit is located conveniently near the pool. Perfect size for family of four including two teens. Great beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, wagon, icebox) came in very handy for beach excursions. The owners were prompt and responsive when minor issues came up. Would gladly return!

This was such a phenomenal place to make our temporary home base for a Hawaiian adventure! So many thoughtful and convenient touches - from a very well stocked kitchen to a cooler you can take to the beach to many, many beach toys to great recommendations for things to do that were appropriate and enjoyable for our whole fam. The pool is lovely and a quick walk from the condo - and we loved watching the sunset at A Bay! Our hosts were communicative and kind. Cannot say enough nice things and hope to stay again!

We spent 7 nights at this extremely spacious and luxurious condo. The property was exactly as advertised and very clean. It has everything you could possibly need. The lanai is very big and offers lovely views of the ocean (partial) and the beautifully manicured grounds. We loved the outside grill. The Kolea development was very quiet and pleasant. Its Beach Club offers not only an infinity pool but also an infinity hot tub with prime views of the beach, ocean and the adjacent ancient fish ponds (as well as the stars during night). The beach is beautiful and very close/easy to walk down to. Communication with and information by the owners was excellent and check-in/out a breeze. The codes for the gate and the door made coming and going super easy and the carport was huge.
We were extremely satisfied and would happily return in a heartbeat.

We loved the top floor. It was quiet and away from the noise and other units. This unit was spacious and had more then enough room for our Ohana. We enjoyed all the provided items including beach chairs and accessories for our convenience. We’d definitely return here as it was very relaxing and nice. The only thing I would say is the beds were a little too hard for us. Other than that, all else was just right.

The property is as described with all the amenities you need for a relaxing vacation. The hosts and property managers were super responsive to our inquiries before and during our stay. They really went out of their way to make provide you with the conveniences of home with the indulgences of vacationing. The kitchen is fully stocked with a great pantry where we were able to take a break of eating out to cook at home for a few mornings and nights. The layout is great and provides the privacies for multiple families vacationing together. Nice enjoyable pool with great beach access and shopping in walking distance. Looking forward to our return in the future!

Excellent location, close to pool and fitness center and a short walk on to the beach of A-Bay. Walking distance to Kings and Queens Shops. Top floor unit with view of ocean from lanai. Nice, modern appliances, very well stocked kitchen with all the supplies we needed for cooking. Easy check out process. The A/C worked really well but was a bit loud. Excellent communication from owner before and during our stay. Overall great experience!

Hale mermaid was the perfect location for my husband and two teenage boys. Having the kings/queen shops, beach and pool so close the boys were able to do their own thing. The condo was a perfect set up as well as our home base for the week.

We had the most wonderful time here at Steve and Maryanne's place. This is by far one of the very best vacation rentals that we have ever experienced, perfect location, wonderful amenities, and walking distance to everything you could need (pool, beach, shops, etc.) The condo itself is beautiful with two spacious bedrooms each with their own ensuite bathroom, an amazing kitchen with everything you could possibly need, and a wonderful gathering space inside with sliding doors out to the equally beautiful lanai. The space was spacious, sparkling clean, relaxing and had everything we needed and more for our family of four. The complex where the condo is located is equally as beautiful, relaxing and serene. The pool complex is gorgeous with loungers, umbrellas and a beautiful view of the ocean. From the condo you also have walking access (very easy, 5 mins tops) to the beautiful beach at A-Bay. The condo is equipped with all the beach gear you could need as well for a day away at any of the beaches nearby, and is also within walking distance to the shops, restaurants and grocery stores at the Kings & Queens shops. We traveled with our kids ages 5 and 7 and the location, amenities, and easy access to everything was absolutely perfect. Steve and Maryanne were wonderful hosts and we cannot wait to come back!

As a resident of the Pacific Northwest, we have had the opportunity to have a few visits to Hawaii but this was our first time on the big island. Part of what made it so sweet was staying at Maryanne & Steve's gorgeous penthouse condo. Everything is high end amazingly comfortable. Eat, Beach, Swim, & Repeat. A-Bay is beautiful and I highly recommend the kayaking/snorkeling trip down and out to the Captain Cook. Is it a monument, a bay..., an actual pirate? I can't say. :-)
I can say, as an experienced scuba diver, that the reef life is abundant and I will return to both this island and this beautiful condo. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. - Kevin C.

This is a great condo where we spent two months this winter. The location is amazing, it is a short walk to the pool and beach. The condo has a well equipped kitchen, and spacious and comfortable master suites and living room. As a penthouse corner unit it has additional space and a shaded lanai. It has plenty of beach chairs, cooler, umbrellas to make our many days at the beach so enjoyable. This is our fifth winter at Kolea and the first in this unit. We definitely would highly recommend this unit without reservation. Many renters to Kolea return year after year, all agreeing why would they go anywhere else. Steve and Maryanne are very responsive to any questions.

Pros: Beautiful location, loved walking to A-Bay. Great layout of the condo with two master bath rooms and comfy beds. Easy access to and from the beach house.
Cons: Not a fan of the check out rules(striping the beds, laundry starting for the towels, emptying all garbage)

Kolea is beautiful. The condo was perfect for our family. The 2 queen beds in the second room make a huge difference and the huge bathrooms were great. Kitchen was fully stocked with all we needed and more, locker had all the beach toys we needed, everything super clean, washer and dryer, towels, extra amenities galore. Walk to the pool was easy and quick, lovely deck view to watch the sunset, the Marriot hotel has a great cafe for food and coffee that we walked to, shopping centers and restaurants super close. We loved it and hope to return. Saved so much money on food by being able to cook there and grill on the lanai. Highly Recommend.

My brother and I just finished a 6 night stay and could not have been happier with this condo.
The floor plan is lovely with the large open kitchen which leads into a great room that flows into a beautiful deck complete with Viking grill. The two suites are perfect for two groups of adults or a family. The laundry and kitchen appliances are all in great working order and look fairly new. The kitchen is one of the best stocked I have seen. Day or night, it is very quiet inside and out of the unit which I found very peaceful.
The property is beautifully manicured and is in a gated community with a beach club with a pool that’s great for children by day but also good for laps early morning or early evening when it’s quieter. There is also a beautiful path from the pool to the beach which is a very short walk.
FYI - since this is a gated community, food deliveries seemed to be out of the question. Neither DoorDash or private deliveries were available but the shops, which include some very nice restaurants and food shops are barely a five minute drive and are great options including a very nice grocery store.
I also wanted to mention that the owners are a real pleasure to deal with and very responsive.
There really is no way you can go wrong with this rental. I know I’ll be back again.

You won't be disappointed in this condo. Location is perfect. Got a little windy on the beach a couple of days so you just retreat to the pool area which is a bit more protected. Unit is stocked well, there was nothing else we could have wanted. Clean, well appointed and two master type suites which accommodated two adult couples perfectly. AC unit air flow a bit noisier than normal, but none of us ultimately had any trouble sleeping. Owner is aware and is looking into it. If you're at all concerned, just message the owner. Other than that, highly recommended.

Condo was spacious, clean and the new hardwood floors in the bedrooms were stunning! The kitchen was well stocked which made our trips to the market less stressful. We enjoyed the outside kitchen for evening meals. Nice breeze, nice view and peaceful. We really appreciated all the beach supplies - chairs, umbrellas, coolers, beach wagon.... The vaulted ceilings, built-in BBQ on the lanai, and the peekaboo ocean view were a plus. You can't go wrong with this place and this condo is at the top of our list for our next trip to the Big Island.

Yes we enjoyed our stay. The condo complex is very well maintained in a great location to walk everywhere, including watching the sunset on the beach. Very nice relaxing pool area. The partial ocean view from the condo property is through the trees and over the clubhouse building.
We were very confused when we arrived, the VRBO listing says Paulo, Hawaii. The driving directions reference Kolea at Waikoloa. (We were not familiar with Kolea being the name of the whole complex). The name of the actual unit is yet another name, "the Mermaid penthouse" . The property manager (cleaning person) was responsive to give us the front gate code once we found the property manager number which was near impossible. The number on the gate is useless. There is no information through VRBO to contact the Host. The welcome email is what we went by. Please go into the VRBO app and read all the instructions. We offer the information to be helpful . Your Hawaiian vacation should start stress free! Enjoy this Beautiful Island !

This property was definitely upscale. We loved the location, the well stocked unit for essentials for cooking and beach going was very appreciated. The layout is fantastic and those large sliding doors were awesome. We had a minor hiccup with the keypad for entry not working but properly managers came quickly and got us in. The carpet in bedrooms was a bit soiled but it’s being replaced by wood flooring soon I was told. Overall we loved this place and the Kolea property.

This condo is a beautiful penthouse in a great location. We loved the terrace with the built-in BBQ. It is very clean and we loved the fact that many condiments such as spices were provided. The resort is perfect. Don't miss the walk on the sea shore starting at the resort.

Our weeklong stay at this kolea penthouse in waikaloa was perfect! The unit had plenty of space for our family of four (two older teens). The second bedroom had two larger beds, it’s own bathroom and mini bar area! The unit was stocked with everything we could have needed! The unit was clean and in good shape!
Stores, shopping and a movie theater are within walking distance. The beach and neighboring resorts are an easy walk also. My husband loved the deck overlooking kolea and spent many mornings out there reading, sipping coffee or an evening beverage.
This was absolutely a fabulous unit and the owners/property managers were responsive. (Fortunately we didn’t really need to reach out to them).
We would love to return here for another vacation in the future!

Steve and MaryAnn have a beautiful home with an ideal location at Waikoloa Beach. There are no stones left unturned. The condo has a terrific lanai with BBQ and every kitchen utensil you could ever need. The location is within easy walking distance to the pool club house, beach and stores. This corner penthouse condo was everything we hoped for and more. It was spacious and clean throughout, and the best-equipped of any house we have rented. If you love to cook, this kitchen has everything. This really felt like a home away from home. We looked forward to the spectacular sunsets from the lanai every evening and ate all of our meals there. The entire property was lovely - the pool, the gym, and the very sweet local beach a short walk away. The storage locker filled with beach equipment was awesome. There was a fantastic local market just minutes away. Steve and MaryAnne were incredibly responsive during our visit - the ultimate hosts. We cannot wait to go back!

The condo is in a great location and is an amazing place to stay. It is walking distance to beach, restaurants, markets, and a private beach club. The beach club with pool was a real treat and we brought a picnic lunch there a few days and sat and looked out at the ocean.
The neighborhood is quiet and private and the landscape is immaculately kept.
The owners are super responsive, helpful and gracious hosts. We really appreciated all their special touches to make our stay comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with an outdoor grill too. The doors in the living room open wide to the lanai which is a great place to soak in the sea air and sunsets in the distance.

This is a great upper level condo in a beautiful complex. There is a peek-a-boo ocean view and great western exposure for sunsets on the lanai. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious. Easy walk to the beach and pool, super well stocked with everything you need. Beach towels, floats, coolers and toys, even a wagon to carry it all. The kitchen is great - we didn’t cook there but had we wished to, everything we could have possibly needed was there. We had a few technical issues during our stay, but the owners were super responsive and helpful. We are typically resort dwellers, but I would definitely stay here again.

This place truly was amazing. Every small detail is accounted for and the space was perfect for the four of us. Kitchen is well stocked as well as the bathrooms. The property itself is very well maintained and the access to the beach and pool super close to walk to with all the beach gear that is supplied. Outstanding spacious open concept condo with fully equipped kitchen. Since it's on the 3rd floor, the lanai has great views (partial ocean) & nice breezes.
5 minute walk to to "A Bay" for swimming & beautiful sunsets. Walking distance to Queens Market and Kings Shops which have a number of great restaurants and shops. The owners were very responsive to any needs or issues.

Loved that they had beach chairs and and everything else you would need for a day at the beach. We had a wonderful time at Waikoloa! The condo and the grounds, including the pool and beach, are fantastic. The condo was roomy and beautiful. We especially liked the extra large bathrooms and I can't say enough about the lanai. The enormous doors that open all the way were a real treat. Also, the place has everything you would need other than the food you need to buy. They even had shampoo and conditioner, beach towels, beach chairs. This is a great place for a family that is ok with the kids staying in one room or for two couples.
