Great apartment with sunny morning view and shade in the afternoon. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of beach gear. Clean with a comfortable bed for two - didn’t try the sleeper couch. Nice property - well kept common areas and lots of visible security.
Great property, Fantastic location and super easy check in/check out.
This place is exactly as listed…great location, very clean, nice accommodations. It was perfect for me and my young adult daughter. From the other reviews, I was skeptical about the a/c unit water pan, but this was no big deal at all! We ran it all night and it didn’t overflow. Each morning I would use a small plastic container to scoop out the water into a large kitchen pan, then dump that. It took maybe 10 minutes to empty the a/c pan completely this way; not a hassle at all!
I stayed twice at this property in the last month. Cute decor. Great location. Challenges with the TV but host followed up immediately.
We enjoyed the convenience and affordability of this rental. The apartment was clean and well stocked with towels and extra bedding (including a nice blow-up mattress). The beach gear was an added bonus and the air conditioning was great for us Alaskans as we adapted to the tropical weather.
Great time and we'll be back in a couple week.s
The unit is nice and the location is great. Nice little balcony to sit on. Dumping the water pan for the AC unit is odd. Fortunately, my husband had no problems with it.
It was clean. Not really as depicted in photo. You had to take a pail and empty the water off the balcony from under the air conditioner twice daily. You could not run air while you were out hence always returning to hot room, took awhile to cool each time. Every cupboard and drawer was full some with useful items but alot looked like items guests may have left behind. Cluttered. Left our clothes in suitcases. Sofa worn out you sat down on wood frame. I have stayed at Ilikai hotel and would next time, could not recommend . The location is the best thing about it.
This was a great place to stay with a young family. We had a week to see it all and our manager was responsive to every question from where is the snorkel gear to how do we find the utensils. We were very thankful to have her cell number on the welcome message which was picked up every time we called. Will definitely be booking again with her. Bus stops and cab were convenient and gave us easy access to hiking, the beach Hanauma Bay, surf lessons North Shore car rental for a day and Pearl Harbour.
We loved our stay at this property!
Very cute, clean and had everything we needed
We did not use any of the beach stuff, but there is a bunch if you choose to use it.
Nice size patio for people watching, with comfy chairs!
Good location close to beach
Superb location; close to the beach and restaurants. The apartment was well-layed out and convenient. Some of the doors were difficult to use, but we managed. Communication was good with the owner.
Overall great experience. Property was clean and fairly well maintained. Two suggestions…First, WD-40 the right patio door. It was challenging to open. Second, there was no parking pass left and the instructions in the information indicated the keys, pool passes and parking pass were on the fridge. They were not
This property was great for our family of 4. We used the air mattress and couch for our two children. Plenty of linens, access to everything you would need. Would love to stay here again :)
I'm not even sure how to start my review. This room is in the Ilikai hotel (Built in the 60's opened in 1964). The place is almost 60 years old and shows it. The photos showing the place are very deceiving. The mirrors on the wall make it look so much bigger, but it's not. After getting over the moldy smell and looking around, I messaged the owner. I got this message from the owner once I'd checked in - that she has a plumber coming in the next day to fix the toilet. To leave a key for him. Why is this getting fixed when I'm there and not before my stay. I told her there is no bowls in the place to eat out of. This is what I told her word for word. My wife is very disappointed with the condition of this place She is afraid to put anything in medicine cabinet, because the shelves are bowed to the falling out point and it's so yucky looking inside. The air mattress my handicapped son had to sleep on wouldn't hold air. She did replace it on our last night. The list goes on. The countertop has a big crack in it with food and who knows what stuck in it. Photos don't show that. Chains on the blinds were broken off with mold on them. The sliding doors has crud and mold all over them. The plumbing was all working good for us. Well, the shower knob kept falling off. Anyway. I told her to have the person come in after we are gone. My wife was working while on vacation and due to HIPPAA rules no one can see what she's working on.
Speaking of doors. It's a studio apartment that someone put a wall down the middle of. When the door is shut the bedroom has no A/C unit or a fan in it. So much for the privacy claim. You have to leave the doors open to get in air in the bedroom. And the doors are sliding doors that come off the track each time you try to open or close them. Same with the bathroom door.
My son left his swimming trunks on the balcony one day. She used this for an excuse to come into the apartment to address some of the things I told her about when we were gone. Whomever she sent into our apartment tried to fix things. Left bowls and took the shelves out of the medicine cabinet. Some of our personal belongings were missing. I asked the Hotel Security about this and was told you have 24 hours to remove the item from the balcony (bathing suit) They also stated if you told the owner not to come in and it wasn't an emergency. she has no right coming into the apartment when you are renting it. I did then call the Honolulu Police to make a police report.
So as a family we travel numerous times a year to many different destinations.
A clean/ comfortable stay is always our top Priority.
We booked this property many months ago as a birthday trip for myself.
Booking was Easy/ Price was reasonable.
Communication with property owner I didn’t find amazing. I asked back in September about Parking, she said she had a parking pass and it would be giving out the end of the month before stay. So the end of the month before stay I reached out, 4 days later she replied to say no another guest has it, but I taught it was only giving out now!! Anyway Valet parking at this hotel is $35 but the parking garage across the street above red lobster is $28 overnight. Little walk but we parked here.
Entering the apartment as a family of 4 we realised the ‘sofa bed’ was tiny. This would not hold 2 people to sleep on it, it’s not a proper sofa bed more just the back of it dropped down. My 8 year old slept on it alone and said it was very hard and uncomfortable.
My 12 year old had to go on a blow up bed as was not enough room for them to share.
Than we went to unpack our clothes, There is literelly no space whatsoever, the closet is full of beach stuff, yes this is great to have all the chairs/towels etc. but storage could be better
The drawer unit is completely full with towels/blankets etc- yes great you get extra towels but how do we put our clothes away??
Lastly the wardrobe, yes 1 wardrobe between 4 people, there was space to hang up our clothes but the shelves above again filled with extra blankets etc so couldn’t use this
Lastly we done a small food shop but the kitchen cabinets are so full of food that we had to just leave ours sitting on the counter.
Who wants to use old food left behind??
It was quite a disappointing stay as it was for a milestone birthday and my husband knew I was upset with our choice, it honestly did feel like we were guests in someone else’s house.
We love love love Waikiki and have been there many times. This time around, we decided to stay likai Hotel and rented this so claimed 1 bedroom suite sleeps 4. The unit is a bachelor suite which has a wall put up to turn it on to a bedroom. As a result, there is no ventilation / AC / FAN in this room which made warm nights. The couch (shown in the picture) is not what was there. There was another couch there which could only sleep my 10yr old - single bed. We had a choice of folding the couch flat to turn into bed to sleep one OR have the kids sleep on the floor. For the entire stay, my kids slept on the floor despite us having to pay for a unit that sleeps 4. I sent a message to the owner on VRBO app and for the entire stay, she did not respond. We've been back for 2 weeks now and have still not heard from here.
Outside of the false ad for number of people who can sleep here, the unit was not very clean (dust on furniture, on ground etc), the kitchen sink was clogged so water would take very long to drain (very disgusting). The toilet in the bathroom was also broken as it never stopped running so we could hear it running all day / night which added to the frustrating while sleeping in the "so called" bedroom.
The balcony was a mess with 1/4 of the balcony piled up with junk including dead plants/plots, vacuum etc.
I have pictures & videos of this disgusting and would advise anyone thinking who wants to stay here to save their money and go someplace else.
I am not one for leaving negative reviews but our experience was so bad that I thought it would be very important to share what our family went experienced while staying at this place. Hope this helps you with your holidays and decision!
Excellent location and wonderful accommodations. If you are considering this place, just do it already!
The condo was as seen in pictures. It was the perfect place for us and the great value for money spent. Everything we needed for beach time was supplied and we used it. Other family members stayed at Ilikai and didn’t have near as much supplied to them. The view was amazing and at night with all the city lights breath taking. I highly recommend this unit.
This property was a good value for the money. We loved the location.
Love the location of the Ilikai and have rented multiple units here in the past. This unit was better stocked than the others we've stayed in, especially their beach equipment. City view was beautiful at night. Depsite being high up, you hear plenty of street noise but it didn't bother us. The sound machine at night helped. Cleanliness was just average for a rental. Property manager was responsive to our issues/questions. The parking permit was a good deal. Close to elevators and laundry room, which was great. The layout (1 bedrooom, small futon, and inflatable mattress) was perfect for our family of 4, which included 2 kids.
My main complaint was having to empty the pan under the air conditioner. That should not be the responsibility of a paying customer. Also, towels were an issue. We had to wash on more than one occasions towels.
This was a very good experience for us staying at the Ilikai. The room is very comfortable although the sliding doors are all very sticky. We enjoyed walking to the beach and to the stores in Waikiki. Wee got everything we needed in the kitchen too. And the parking deal was also perfect.
The location was great, plenty of space, and a nicely appointed kitchen. Only issue was we needed to use the second bed and the host assumed that the two guests would be sharing the main bed so a second set of sheets were not supplied. However, when we brought this up, we got a prompt response and the host drove from the other side of the island to bring us another set of sheets.
We took our 17 year old to visit Chaminade and University of Hawaii. The place was perfect for the three of us. It is within a short walking distance to Waikiki Beach and the man-made lagoon. We opted for the beach multiple times a day. There is also a fireworks show every Friday night. You are also within walking distance to great shopping. The condo was clean and had everything we needed.
All you need in Waikiki! Very well managed property.
We honeymooned in Hawaii and this was the perfect place. It was nice to have our own place. Nice kitchen and bathroom. Beautiful views, we even had dinner on the porch with the city view. Not too far of a walk from Waikiki.
The location was the absolute best. Close to everything we wanted to do. Restaurants, transportation (bus), beach, town; everything was at a fingers touch. The accommodations were exactly as listed, and we were very pleased. Host was present at check in, and very helpful with info. Definitely would stay here again.
Couch was stained and very hard to sit on. Shower didn’t seem clean. Toilet seat needs tightened or replaced. Elevators are slow. Check in/out process was easy.
The condo was plenty of space for the 3 of us. Fully stocked with everything we needed for a day in and out at the beach. Great location we felt safe walking in area even at night. Bus & trolly stops located just tot he left of building. The owners pool was quieter with plenty of seating both with and without umbrellas. Didn’t need the a/c because of the breeze coming through the sliding doors.bed was very comfortable.. condo is facing the city so you do here traffic sounds wasn’t a issue for us and I am a light sleeper. Shower drains a tad bit slow but the water is hot and the detachable shower head is a plus. The sofas looks new and clean but it is firm. However, there is an air mattress and other bedding toppers available. Overall highly recommend this condo and owner.
It was a really cute place to stay, everything was within walking distance. The beach is literally less than 5 mins away if you walk out of the lobby, a bonus is you don’t even have to leave the hotel. Very friendly staff at the Ilikai. Would definitely stay there again, such a beautiful view from the balcony as well.
Had a great time on Waikiki. The place is a fine size for the two of us. The couch is uncomfortable, even after a repair. Many things have been deferred for maintenance in this unit. But, the price was a value as well......As others have said, the elevators can be problematic due to the number of people in the bldg. Janna was responsive.
I won’t bore you with why my trip wasn’t enjoyable, but his property was one of the few highlights of our trip. Spacious enough for 3 people, great option for small families and couples looking to stay in Honolulu without paying the ridiculous rates of resorts on the island. We stayed for 7 days and paid what other family paid to stay 3 days next door at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We did everything they did at their resort without the price tag and with a quiet experience. The floor this room is on is extremely quiet and when you learn about the hidden elevator near the trash area, it makes getting to and from your room a breeze!!!
Would definitely stay again--great host--very responsive and helpful, lots of amenities, and a great location!! The only improvement would be to replace the couch--very uncomfortable even for sitting.
Ilikai is in a great location and lovely place to stay! The lanai is in the shade, so it was nice to be outside while enjoying the views. It also had plenty of space and nice table to enjoy meals.
Great clean place to stay near Waikiki. Ilikai is a beautiful hotel in general. The room was clean and we got to check in early. Easy communication with property manager. Great city view. Overall happy we stayed there.
The place was small but just right for my family. Nice view and walking distance to a lot of places.
This true 1 bedroom apartment at the Ilikai in Ala Moana is a perfect spot. We spent hours upon hours searching on the perfect spot. Look no further you’ve found it. we spent our days hiking and snorkeling, coming back to the beautiful Mountain Views from the balcony was definitely a highlight for us. I hope we get to come back to Honolulu and stay again.
It’s easy to get to a lot of places from Ilikai, but it’s crazy loud at night even with the lanai closed. The city view from the lanai is enjoyable. All the beach supplies were very much appreciated. The kitchen supplies could use an update. The couch is not comfortable to sleep on and requires constant adjusting, but it’s fine for watching the smart tv (just not for sleeping).
This property has an awesome view of the city, especially at night. Location was very good and hotel was pretty nice. Kitchen was great but sofa was very uncomfortable. Unit photographs larger than it is, so pay attention to square footage. Overall it was quite nice.
My wife and I favor the Ilikai, in part because of its location but also because of its history. Janna's condo was the nicest we've stayed at there. It was so well-equipped with extras that we wouldn't have thought to look for but which were incredibly useful. The option for discounted nearby parking was particularly helpful as we knew we would be driving every day. The building has five passenger elevators plus another elevator specifically for swimmers. Even so, there were at times waits for elevators, particularly when a lot of people were checking in or out. Being up on the eighteenth floor really helped, as the elevators were rarely full when they got to our floor. (Family who stayed on the fifth floor were stymied by full elevators much more!) By the way, the Wi-Fi here was ten times faster than what I have at home!
My family and I really enjoyed the property! It was close to the lagoon which was perfect for my kids to explore. The property itself was as described, except there was supposed to be an air mattress and there was not. Also the hanging light fixture in the bedroom was pretty dusty, but other than that, it was lovely! Having a full kitchen was a huge $ saver. Also, just FYI, we were told we could use the pool at The Modern if we purchased food or drinks. This worked during the week, however as the weekend approached, they were asking non-Modern guests to leave.
The place is located in Ilikai Hotel. Its very clean and just like how the pictures were. Bed was comfortable and soft. We had enough towels and beach towels provided. There was also extra blankets in the closet (which we didn't need). The place is very well decorated. I did not have a change to check out the Lagoon or the beach near by but its really close the a Red Lobster, ABC store, McDonald's, and other restaurants. I thought the parking was easy accessible its right next to Red Lobster. The parking garage there was $23 a day (unlimited in and outs). You can pay a day or two in advance with the cashier booth. Overall I thought the place felt very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed even to wash some of the cups we used (new sponge, dishwasher soap under sink). Its about a 20 min walk to downtown Wakiki shops/restaurants.
It was perfect for me and my boyfriend! We really enjoyed the stay the condo literally has everything you need beach towels beach chairs lunch pale like everything it. It was just right for us!! We loved our view! Everything was straight to the point no complaints on our end!
My boyfriend and I stayed here and loved the amenities of the hotel as well as the cleanliness and comfort of the room. Close to a ton of things in Waikiki and spacious enough for the 2 of us. The internet was quick too as we were both working remote during covid. The only thing was the couch was a bit uncomfortable to sit on and the doors were a little hard to open/close, but the views and everything else made it incredibly worth it to stay here. Highly recommend!
