Overall, we had a nice stay at this property. It was perfectly located in the middle of Hana town and had gorgeous views of the ocean. We loved having coffee on the lanai every morning!
It was difficult finding a rental property to fit our size of group (8 people), so I was very pleased to have found this one.
Our host was extremely kind and communicative. The updates that have been made to the property are great, and we had everything we needed for our stay.
The only things that made our stay less than ideal were the bugs and geckos. We knew ahead of our trip to expect critters as this is a tropical location, and we appreciate the desire to use natural cleaning products and not poisons - but it did make it pretty hard to sleep at night (especially with little kids) after having to relocate several geckos and cockroaches from the bedrooms each night and waking up with ant bites from the bed. Once we found out which windows the critters were likely entering from, we were able to close them or plug the cracks, but without air conditioning that made the rooms very hot. I think this problem could be helped a bit by either adding some window AC units to the property to help cool things down without the need to leave all windows/doors open, or by sealing some of the windows/doors/screens a bit better to prevent critters from entering so freely.
Again, we were aware that critters happen, so it's not a huge deal - but it did freak us out a little more than we expected.

We had a wonderful time staying on this property. The location was absolutely perfect. It is a large house with all the amenities you would need. We were able to meet John and he has great hospitality. I highly recommend staying in this home if you are visiting Hana Maui.

The house is amazing. The views are unbeatable. The only thing better than the house were the owners/host. They helped us out with some special needs and communicated with us quickly with every response. Place is perfect for a small group. Can walk to everything. We will be back.

We loved the chance to slow things down on and enjoy the Hana side of the island. John has a really cool place here with a beautiful view. It felt great to spread out with so much space. Buy what you need before reaching Hana. There’s not much there in the way of groceries. We loved visiting the road to Hana sites on our own, unhurried time. Visit Homoa Bay! It was a major hit with our kids!

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Hana Homestead. Just a short walk from Hana Beach Park, we were treated to a gorgeous view of sunrise over the water. The owners have restored this 1950s home in the original style, with extra touches like a hot tub and sauna. We had been looking for a place to stay for a night so we didn’t have to do the road to Hana in a day, but wished we had spent more of our time on Maui here. Truly a highlight of our trip.

Hana Homestead hosted by John, is a lovely place. The ocean view from here is divine and dramatic! It's a 5 minute to food (general store, food trucks, restaurant) and not much longer to places we wanted to visit. Such as the Wai'anapanapa Black Sand beach, Red Sand Beach, Venus Pool, Lava Tube, and Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools. We also really liked this place because it has been built with eco-friendly materials and uses eco-friendly cleaners - nothing toxic to inhale or get exposed to!

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was large enough for our family of 5 and has a beautiful deck where you can view the bay. The beach is an easy stroll. The property is central to many Hana spots and is located only minutes away from the black sand beach at the state park, Hamoa Beach, Venus pool, and the red sand beach. The property was well stocked with everything we needed and appliances etc. were all in good working condition. Communication with the owner was easy, no issues and would stay again.

Lovely house in a great location. We liked that it was split into 2 levels, so everyone could have their own space if needed. The multiple decks were also very nice. And the view was incredible. If you’re looking to really escape, Hana is the place.

However, if you’re planning to do a lot of activities in other areas of the island the drive back & forth across Hana Highway is very time consuming. This is a beautiful property! The house itself is roomy and comfortable and felt like Hawaii. We loved all the wood trim and wood flooring. The kitchen is well equipped. The yard is very large, and Neighborhood is very nice with a short walk to Hana Bay. There are food trucks nearby but close around 5. Don’t hesitate! Book it!

WOW! Book this place if you want an unforgettable sunrise view and an authentic Hana experience! Our family of 6 stayed here 2 nights during our Maui visit. We started our trip here and were so glad we did! After making the crazy drive on the Road to Hana, it was so nice to have a place to stay and enjoy the incredible state and national parks in Hana. This home is stocked with all the essentials to make your trip easy - you’ll love having all the space to spread out and the views from the upstairs balcony. Even the resort next door doesn’t have these views!! If you’re there during hotter months- it does get a little warm- but there are plenty of fans and screened doors and windows for ventilation. We felt safe the entire time and we hated to have to leave. So fun!!

We really enjoyed this property! It was the perfect hub for our family group (4 adults, a 7-year-old, and a toddler) to stay after our day driving the Road to Hana and then going to the Kipahulu District of the national park the following day. It is close to the restaurants and a short walk to the beach. The house is easy to find and extremely clean (I am VERY picky). They also do a really good job with pest control and I was happy about that because we aren't used to all of the Hawaii bugs in Southern California! The pack n' play was very handy for our toddler so we didn't have to travel with one. The WiFi works great - you can even stream Netflix which the house has an account. We were worried about there being no AC traveling in July, but the ceiling fans and screened windows made it very cool inside, which again, we are all very picky about and don't like the heat/get hot easily. The outdoor shower was very nice, laundry machines were great, and the kitchen was well-equipped. So as you can see, we had no complaints! Would 100% stay here again if we ever come back, and would recommend it for a group of our size or a slightly larger group even.

We throughly enjoyed Hana and the accommodation was probably as good as it gets in the area. No air conditioning, which we did not know until we arrived. Ok, but warm at night. Beautiful view, very spacious, not ideal layout for our family, but fine. Overall, good. Part of this is due to unfair comparison. We have been to Hawaii MANY times and mostly stayed in luxury accommodations. Hana is really not that way, but all there is to do in a relatively short distance is worth it. Overall good experience and good accommodations. Recommend for Hana.

The house– clean, updated, many conveniences. We stayed on three Hawaiian islands (big island, Oahu, Maui) during our two-week trip and this was our favorite VRBO. So many lovely trees and tropical plants on this lovingly maintained property. And the view! When we weren’t out and about on the island, we spent most of our time on the lanai enjoying the fantastic view of Hana Bay and the wonderful breezes off of the water. Out and about, we loved the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park (make a reservation!) as well as nearby Koki Beach Park. Both stunning! And Hana Bay was within walking distance – beautiful!

We stayed two nights here for our road to Hana trip. Remember, this is Hana and there are bugs and geckos. My kids found the geckos cute and they loved watching the mongoose in the yard in the morning. The house has everything we needed and is easy to get to everything in town. Check in was easy. Towels were clean. We have no complaints.

We wanted to break up our Road To Hana stop over multiple days so we opted to spend some nights in Hana. What a great way to experience a slower paced, beautiful Hawaii. The home is spacious, has a perfect location to see the windward side of the island, and allows you explore a part of the island that most people either skip or try to cram into a single day. Enjoy more time on the black sand beach of Wai'anapanapa State Park, spend some time swimming the waterfalls leading into Hana, and save some time for enjoying the (very small) town Hana itself. We had a great visit and would love to spend more time in this wonderful house!

This house is well located and very well stocked. A nice beach is one block away. The house is centrally located between the seven sacred pools and the state park and we had a blast at both. If you go to the state park take the trail to the right for more lava tubes and bow holes. The best blow hole is about half a mile into the hike. All the views were stunning. There is a sign over some doors at the house saying No Exit. There is no AC but we didn’t miss it. Wind blows through the house efficiently.

Our family of 6 decided to stay in Hana a few nights rather than try to do the long drive from the west side in a day - and we would have stayed a week if we could have! The place was roomy, we’ll stocked, and had plenty of windows for a panoramic view of the water. There wasn’t any A/C but the fans worked well along with the windows to keep the house ventilated (with the exception of the basement fan which doesn’t push any air). The atmosphere had a more rural feel than the west side cities and our kids quickly acclimated by exploring the yard and the beach across the street. We loved Hamua Beach nearby as well as Venus Pools and the black sand beach. We hope we can come and stay again soon!

We were delighted with the two nights we stayed at the Hana Homestead. Everything was as described. Very clean and comfortable, with a relaxing view of the ocean from the deck. Amenities provided were more than expected (pantry items, first aid kit, sewing supplies, for example).
We brought most of our groceries, but also picked up a few items at the nearby Hasegawa general store.
Our stay was so peaceful and pleasant we didn’t want to leave.

My husband and I, our 3 daughters (aged 11-18) and my parents loved our stay at Hana Homestead! Upon arrival, the house was fresh and clean, all the windows were open and it was so nice to have fresh air throughout. No A/C is needed! At night, having the windows open was great. We woke up to the sounds of the ocean every morning. The house had everything we needed and more! The beach chairs and boogie boards really came in handy for Hamoa Beach! It was easy to drive or walk everywhere in Hana town, so the location is great! The neighborhood appeared a little run down in areas, but we felt safe and the house itself was maintained beautifully. John, the caretaker was extremely friendly and helpful, as was all contact we had booking this property. If we come back to Hana, I know where we'll be staying!!

Hana was a very special place and I am so glad our family chose to spend a few days there to explore the area. The house was in a great location - close to the food trucks. We only had a couple of issues - the washer was not working and there is no laundromat it Hana. Second there were ants in the basement which made my wife uncomfortable. Overall it was a great house and was perfect for us.

This was the start of a two week stay in Maui. Hana was a relaxing way to begin, and this house was a great place to call home. It was clean and well-appointed with beach towels and equipment. Great accommodations for our family of 6. Appreciated the fully equipped kitchen. Would highly recommend for others looking to stay in the Hana area. Advice for other travelers.....be sure to bring groceries with you! We did not realize the absence of a large grocery store or restaurants in Hana. We got by using with the local general store and food trucks but wish we brought more with us. Highly suggest visiting the State Park, the National Park and Hamona Beach (best beach in Maui in our opinion based on the sandy beach and ocean bottom, opportunity to find shade if desired, and not overly populated).

The view from the property is spectacular. And one can walk to Hana Cove and the red sand beach. The separate living area downstairs is a nice feature. Just a couple of minor suggestions: some coasters and placemats are needed to protect the dining table. And the light over dining table was out, which made it dark to eat by. Very minor!! Really did love it!

My family and I had such a wonderful stay at the Hana Homestead. There are so many positive things to say about this vrbo property.
Its a great central location
Its clean!!!
It has extra towels, hand towels, wash cloths, sheets, blankets, pillows, condiments, spices, beach chairs, boogie boards, toys for the kids and even a first aid kit.
It literally has everything you would need.
The beds were so comfortable. I plan on buying that brand next time I buy a bed.
So many vrbo properties don't allow kids so this one was perfect and safe for children.
It was a easy check in process. Shelly the host responded to texts immediately. The only thing I would let people know is that there is no street sign so GPS the address to find it easier.
My family and I can't wait to plan another trip and rebook here.
The only suggestion I have is that the up stairs area rug needs replaced. Its very old, dingy, grimy and dirty feeling. Also the up stairs couch is old and outdated and needs replaced too. they just don't fit in with everything else being so nice. But that could easily be replaced for around a $1000 at Costco for both together and seeing how much they charge per night I'm sure they can afford it to make it 100% But that being said all the great things definitely out weigh those 2 things.
I will definitely be referring all my family and friends to this vrbo.

This was a wonderful house. We spent a lot of time on the lanai looking at the beautiful view. So relaxing. Some of our group walked/hiked to the Red sand beach, it was amazing. We ate several times at the food trucks. We also cooked in the well-appointed kitchen. We would definitely stay here again.

This place was very beautiful and spacious . You can hear the ocean and relax all day and all night. You hardly see any cars driving by and feels like paradise It is a two level property very nicely decorated andit’s very clean. The balcony has excellent view. The only problem was that in the bathroom there is a small nest of baby cockroaches that crawled all around which I understand commonly happens in these areas. The host did use pest control prior to our arrival as she stated. We loved Hana and all the food trucks But make sure you get food before 6pm because most of them close early. We loved Hana!

Hana Homestead is a beautifully remodeled home complete with everything you need for a fun and relaxing stay in Hana. My family loved our time there (as short as it was). Nicely refurbished. Bathrooms were really nice. Good supply of kitchen accessories and cooking implements. Caretaker was present and very friendly.
Definitely ants and some alarmingly large bugs. But nothing beyond what you’d expect when in the rainforest.
Woke up to the sunrise every morning and the view is absolutely stunning.
The house had sand toys, boogie boards, chairs and other goodies for the kids to play with.

Our group visited Hana for 3 days -- had an incredible stay exploring this less populous corner of the island, and this home meet and exceeded all our needs. The space was tasteful, comfortable, and more than sufficient. We loved the incredible views (coffee on the deck every morning!) and the close walk to the beach and easy drive to hiking in the area. The host was an excellent communicator. We're convinced we'll be back to Hana, and if we do, this is where we'll stay.

Nice, spacious, clean property - right in the heart of Hana. It was a perfect place for us to take a break in Hana (instead of doing same-day round trip).
The house was well maintained - good place for our group. The well-equipped kitchen allowed us to cook a quick meal. Nice balcony and just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. Overall, loved the stay.
Don't forget to check out welcome notes from the host (and massage chair in the lower floor), they are very helpful.
