We liked the house when we first looked and we weren't disappointed!
We felt very comfortable and free. Everything was there in the house, everything was well organized and clean. Outside there was a beach box, a shower and the comfortable veranda.
The property is large and we enjoyed going to the trees at the back of the garden.
The booking process and the handover of the house were perfect. Adrienne put everything together and delivered it on time. She was always available to answer any questions. We can highly recommend renting the house.
PS: We stood in the garden the first evening/night and saw more stars than ever before. That was terrific!

The property is absolutely lovely: from its location in a quiet, well-tended neighborhood, to the well-stocked kitchen and beach equipment, to the kind and attentive host. We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this cottage. It is quintessential Kauai, including the fresh outdoor shower! Adrienne is the most communicative and welcoming host I’ve ever experienced. The cottage is conveniently located close to Kilauea and only minutes away from Princeville and Hanalei. It is, however, away from the crowds (not that there were many on the island). The house had everything we needed for a comfortable and peaceful stay.

If you want hustle and bustle, and every amenity on your doorstep, then don't stay here (or even on the North Shore). BUT... if you want relaxation, tranquility, and breathtaking surroundings then Hale Mahana is definitely for you. This is just the most delightful little cottage located in an outstanding residential area, and my husband and I could not have been more content. In fact we were so chilled out, I swear time went backwards! DO visit Nenea Coffee truck for the best coffee EVER (couple of miles up the road towards Princeville), and sample the donuts at Holey Grail, a food truck in Hanalei. We also did a kayak/hike trip with Kayak Wailua, which was fabulous, and be sure to treat yourself to a copy of The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook (Andrew Doughty) before you go. I came to get some rest and relaxation and got what I was looking for. The house is extremely comfortable, clean and well maintained. It’s in a quiet residential area with just the sound of the birds. The beach I like is just 15 minutes away, about the same as if I stayed in Princeville. The grocery, shops and some restaurants are less than 10 minutes away. Really lovely place with lots of privacy. I’ve been to Kauai many times and stayed in a variety of places and this ranks among the two best (but the other spot, which was on the beach, is no longer rented out). So this is my new favorite. I hope to visit again.

Our stay in Adrienne & Mike’s home could not have been better. The space is appointed with everything you could need, from Tupperware to beach supplies. The location is quiet and feels remote while being just a few minutes from highway 56. Adrienne is an attentive host, wanting to make sure our expectations for the property and our stay were clear. Everything was great! Would gladly stay again if we’re on another north shore visit.

If you prefer a very quiet and peaceful setting this is perfect. Very clean. Everything you need to cook and great beach items. The covered lanai is amazing. This location is out of the bustle of condos and hotels. The owner is a great communicator and provided lots of great suggestions.

This was our second time staying at Adrienne's cottage. It is always so peaceful and homey and very clean and comfortable - we didn't want to leave. She supplies beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, coolers, etc and the kitchen was stocked with basics for cooking like salt/pepper, oil, etc which was really nice when we wanted to cook. Would recommend this to anyone. Note: there are a lot of roosters in the areas that like to crow during the night and early morning, but that's a lot of Kauai. Just fyi, didn't bother us at all.

We had a great time in Kauai while staying in this cottage. A very peaceful place, with only the sounds of nature to be heard. The cottage had everything we could need for an enjoyable stay. Well stocked kitchen, beach gear, and a fun outdoor shower. Adrienne was a lovely host and very organized and helpful. Would definitely rent this place again!

The cottage was cute and the perfect home base for all of our Kauai adventures. Very quiet neighborhood, except for the roosters. But there is nowhere on the island to escape those guys! Loved that none of the neighbors were super close. Made using the outdoor shower much more comfortable. Cottage is centrally located between the north and east sides of the island. If you are looking to get away from the tourist packed resort areas of the south side, this is the ticket!

We really appreciated the quiet, peaceful setting here. We like to prepare our own meals and we had access to everything we needed. The location is pretty central to North shore attractions. This is a beautiful, breezy cottage in a great location (just outside of Kilauea). We used it as a base for remote work and island explorations for 2 weeks. The dark night sky gave us spectacular views of the Milky Way. We had a great time and will be back!

We had a GREAT time at Hale Mahana! The owner takes wonderful care of her property and works hard to ensure your stay is comfortable. The place is very clean inside and outside! The home is very well stocked with quality items in the kitchen, bathrooms, living spaces, and patio. Owner has some great beach gear to borrow, also! It is so peaceful, quiet, and private! Owner is generous with her advice and thoughtfulness! She gave us details of places to shop, beaches, and places to visit on the North Shore. There is a great market and several restaurants close by. Sitting on the front patio enjoying the views and listening to the birds is so relaxing. The back of the property is just as beautiful overlooking an orchard, and there is an amazing outdoor shower! We can’t wait to come back to Kauai, and will stay here again when we do! Thank you for making our trip so memorable!

It's always a joy to return to Hale Mahana. This was my 4th visit in the last 5 years. The cottage is lovely, clean and well-stocked with everything you need. The weather this trip was rainier than in prior years so it was especially nice to have a beautiful and cozy place to retreat when outdoor activities were impacted. I'm already looking forward to my next visit - can't imagine a better place to stay on Kauai!

This cottage was a paradise found for us. Comfortable, quiet, cozy, secluded from the tourist chaos but still close to beaches, shopping, botanical gardens and restaurants. In a gorgeous Kauai setting — away from the troubles of the world, but close to beautiful sites, restaurants, etc. — we spent a memorable week. We shared that with the many wild chickens around the property, although that should have been expected. There are chickens all over the island! For the most part, they didn’t bother us and we didn’t bother them. The island is beautiful and Adrienne made sure that we had everything we needed to have a super time.

This quaint, 2-bedroom, 1-bath plantation house was the perfect fit for us. We specifically wanted an individual home in a beautiful area with quiet and privacy. The owner, Adrienne, was a dream to work with, and made sure everything was just right for us. We loved having the large lot with many lovely flowers and a beautiful neighborhood not far from the beach. It is situated in Kilauea, which is close to Princeville & Hanalei on the north, and Kapa'a and Lihue toward the south. Many beaches are within short driving distances. Our stay was a welcome break from the difficulties of the past couple of years, and we couldn't have asked for a better retreat. Thank you Adrienne for your kindness and hospitality, and we are forever thankful for you!

Lovely home and neighborhood, private setting, pictures don't quite do it justice. Easily explored the whole island from here. Small practical extras like beach coolers, mats, etc. plus a keypad on the door (no extra key to keep track of on the beach) made a big difference.
Host was thorough and helpful all the way from the early planning stages when the pandemic made the trip uncertain. Had a minor issue with WiFi the host got resolved the first morning, even arranging to have a neighbor let the cable company in to fix it so we didn't need to be there.
Couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Kauai.

I have no words for how wonderful our stay was, but I’ll try….. The cottage itself is peaceful, breezy and bright with ample storage, a perfectly stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and a large west-facing lanai. The outdoor shower is huge! We grilled fresh fish for dinner most nights but the cottage is very close to the restaurants in Kilauea town and Princeville. Adrienne is lovely and so easy to work with, we arrived on a late flight and she even made sure the lights were on for us! We’re already planning our next stay at Hale Mahana.

We absolutely loved staying at the cottage. It was our first time to Kauai and Adrienne was very accommodating and helpful with everything. We went to many of the attractions she suggested. We loved the beach that was close to the cottage. The beach chairs, coolers, and boogie board were a bonus, we used them daily. After days at the beach and hiking, the outdoor shower was great for cleaning up. We had a convertible mustang and did not have any issues with parking and driveway. We loved our adventures on the island and coming home to the cottage was perfect for us. We loved relaxing and sitting on the porch. We will be coming back!

This was my third visit to Hale Mahana since 2017. My original plans were to visit last May but, of course, Covid-19 changed all that. During the darkest days of the pandemic, thoughts of returning to Kauai and Hale Mahana always lifted my spirits. When I arrived at Hale Mahana this April, it was like coming home. As usual, Adrienne had everything in pristine condition. The house is bright and cheery and incredibly well-equipped with everything you need. There are windows on all sides allowing for lots of light and wonderful cross-breezes. The location is perfect - private, quiet and beautiful. It's easy to walk to the nearest beach and to drive into Kilauea for shopping and restaurants. The main challenge for visiting the North Shore right now is the daily road closures that limit access to Hanalei and points beyond. Fortunately, Hale Mahana is close to many other wonderful North Shore beaches - Anini, Kalihiwai, Secret Beach, Rock Quarry Beach - not to mention beaches and activities in Kapaa and points south - so there are lots of good alternatives if scheduling around the Hanalei road openings becomes a problem. I'm incredibly grateful to Adrienne for her flexibility in working with me over the last year to ensure I had my long-deferred, but absolutely wonderful visit to Hale Mahana and am already looking forward to when I can return again!
