We arrived on Sunday, the power went out on Monday night. We were without food, power or elevators and were not provided with updates or communication. We were on the 10th floor and had to walk up and down 10 fights of stairs to get to the lobby. The hotel lobby had power and allowed us to charge our phones for limited times during the day. We were told to evacuate but didn't have cell service so we weren't able to contact the airlines. The fire alarm went off twice and they were both false alarms. Both times we walked down the 10 flights of stairs and the hotel didn't announce that they were false alarms either time. We were in the lobby one evening while the generator was on and the elevators were working, the General Manager refused to let my 69 year old girl friend recovering from hip surgery use the elevator because it would use too much power, so she had to walk up 10 flights of stairs. The owner initially refused any type of refund, the hotel has refused any type of refund, we were provided 1 and 1/2 days of service.

Had a great time in Maui. Celebrated our 50 th anniversary with our kids and grandkids. Condo was clean and located close to restaurants and the beach. About 30 minutes from the airport. Easy checkin in service was excellent. Would stay again if we went back to Maui.

If had a beautiful view and the location is great. The unit was nice but a little rundown and the bed needs a new mattress. It sinks down in the middle and very uncomfortable.

The property grounds and room was beautiful. The property owners was great to work with. The only down fall which I brought to the owners attention which is no fault of their own is the property management do not uphold their rules & policies of the property which was disappointing. However, I would definitely stay there again & highly recommend.

Beware, buy supplemental insurance if you rent from this host. After checkout we were flatly accused of breaking the light socket part of one of the lamps and disrespecting her property. How you break that intentionally is beyond me. Im sure it was accidentally caused by the maids always lifting them up to clean under them.Things get old and weak that is why they have bulb replacement kits on Amazon or any hardware store for $15. She withheld our $500 deposit for six weeks to make a $1279 claim against our supplemental insurance for two new lamps. If that wasn't bad enough she accused us of dirtying 4 towels that had to be thrown away. After ten days of use they had residual face powder on them from my wife that washes right out. I asked her on two different occasions to show us them after they were washed and she didn't do it. But she dinged us another $85. Thank goodness we had supplemental insurance or we would of had to go thru all the vrbo dispute stuff to fight to get our $500 deposit back. There is nothing worse than fighting for things your innocent of,especially after an expensive hawaiian vacation.

The condo has a great lanai with views of Kaanapali beach, black rock and whales swimming nearby. It is centrally located and very easy to get to restaurants and shops at Whaler’s Village. We were extremely pleased with these aspects.
The condo needs major updating though. In particular, the carpet has unacceptable stains, and the shower/toilet room has ceiling tiles that are coming off. The bed was comfortable, but the other furniture needed refreshing. We spent most of our time out of the condo, and didn’t utilize the living space other than the lanai in part due to uncertainties about cleanliness since a large carpet stain was next to the couch.
The Whaler is not as high end as other properties along Kaanapali beach, but we knew this, and opted for location and simplicity as well as view. Nonetheless, some units are nicer than others, and this one would have rated higher with needed improvements. My rating takes into account the limitations of this condo relative to others along Kaanapali.

Whaler is definitely the place to stay. 1018 is a very nice studio with a great view. You can enjoy the lanai all day as Tower 1 is situated to receive no direct sun. However, that also means you must go to the beach or pool if you are wanting to tan.

My husband and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and couldn't be happier with the property! The beach access, views, kitchen amenities, easy access to restaurants and shops, and overall experience was second-to-none. Great value property for everything you have access to!

The property is gorgeous and you are right on the beach. You are also within walking distance on several restaurants and shopping at Whaler’s Village. You can rent snorkels and fins down stairs too! Can’t wait until we can visit again!!

Great location and 180 degree view of black rock and the mountains. We had a wonderful stay! Enjoyed cooking and having our meals on the lanai watching the brave people jumping off black rock! We will definitely book this property again.

The condo was as advertised on the listing. 10th floor gives a great view of Black Rock and the beach. The whaler is a great place to stay on Maui with a great beach for sunbathing and swimming and great restaurants within easy walking distance.

We absolutely loved our stay here. It was spacious for a studio and had everything we needed for our stay. The views of the ocean and black rock were amazing. We were out on the lanai every chance we got! I loved being so close to Whalers Village for some shopping or a bite to eat. Other restaurants are close by as well and in walking distance. The beach right out front and down to black rock is great. We had friends staying up the beach a bit and it was very rocky. The check-in process was easy and the front desk staff/all staff were attentive and friendly. One suggestion I would make is to keep a small cooler in the apartment. It’s nice to be able to take snacks/drinks down to the beach and have them stay cold! We ended up renting a cooler for the week.

We had a great stay at the Whaler. It is so convenient with Whaler Village next door, beautiful pool, and of course gorgeous beach. Our unit had everything we needed and were able to make breakfast every day and enjoy the scenery from the patio. Would definitely return!

We loved this place. We spent a whole month on Maui and stayed in multiple rental units on different parts of the island. This place was by far our favorite (and they all were priced about the same). The check in process is handled by the front desk, and didn't require the use of some sort of lock-box. The facilities were top-notch, and the location was perfect. We walked the 50ft or so from the property to the water and jumped in with our snorkel gear, and there were FOUR sea turtles in the water right next to us. I'm not sure if we just got lucky or if that is normal for this beach, but it was AMAZING. The shopping and dining next door at Whalers Village was very convenient. Overall we just loved this place. I wish we had stayed here the entire trip, haha. Thanks!

Couldn’t ask for a better property. Room was beautiful with large mirrors for extra light, AMAZING view from balcony, and wonderful location. We saw several whales from the room and enjoyed the beautiful mountains views beyond black rock. There was even beach chairs and umbrella with the unit. Only con was that the bed blanket was super hot and the bed did kind sink in a lot but would definitely stay again!!

Wanting the perfect get-away from work and cold weather, this is your destination. January is the best time for whale watching and this unit has an exceptional view daily! We enjoy our breakfast and cocktails with spectacular shows and ideal temperatures. The Whaler, itself, offers the best services and is so closes to shopping, restaurants and so much more. We’ve stayed on Ka’anapali beach several times but this was our first time staying at The Whaler. We love the location, right there on the beach. We were close to good food and shopping at Whalers village, and close to good snorkeling at Black Rock. We would definitely stay here again!

We did not spend a lot of time in our room, and being our first time in Maui we had a fantastic time. I’m all for newer, more modern accommodations so the fact that this specific rental hasn’t been updated in decades was the only downside. Bed needs to be replaced asap, no support left.

Upon entering the condo, the blinds were open and Hawaiian music was playing softly; relaxation and joy were immediate.
The unit has plenty of drawers and closet space for two people for an extended stay. The full sized refrigerator worked perfectly keeping everything especially drinks cold and refreshing.
The vanity and sink outside of the toilet and shower area made it easy for two people to get ready for the day’s adventures.
The managing company was extremely prompt and professional in their responses

Absolutely fantastic! I’ve stayed in a lot of five star resorts because I move artists around the world this is not one of them but they have many qualities of a five star. The property is clean the condo was fantastic! I had to move this trip three times and I was never charged a change fee, the owners are great! Many restaurants have reservations booked out for months so if you want to eat at a restaurant you have to wait in line for two hours but this kitchen in this condo is fully stocked with dishes and everything you might need. We just went to the grocery store and ate at the property. I highly recommend this unit for anybody that wants to visit Maui. You can see Black rock Beach from the balcony and know if it’s too crowded to go. The staff at the whaler were exceptional!

We loved our stay at the Whaler! It is a great amount of space, especially for 2 people, but I imagine it would be fine to throw a kid in there too.
Pluses:
-Location: Right on the beach and a two minute walk to the most surprisingly amazing snorkeling I've ever done (rent equipment for $17 from the hotel in front of the Black Rock for an hour one morning...you won't be disappointed! I saw a GIANT sea turtle, schools of fish, a never-ending highway of fish, etc...). Also right next to other hotels with bars and restaurants, and obviously Whaler's Village.
-The bed was super comfy
-The kitchen had everything we needed (made a stop at Costco by the airport when we first arrived, but there is also an ABC store next door in the Whaler Village for other incidentals)
-The bathroom was stocked with towels and basic items (except for body wash)
-The balcony patio was the best spot to start and end our days and take in the gorgeous views of the water and mountains. You could even hear the waves from up there...and there was a screen door so you can leave the patio door open.
-Beach Chairs: We loved that there were 2 Tommy Bahamas (and a boogie board and noodle) in the closet, which takes away the hassle and cost of renting them.
-Front Desk: It's not a hotel, but they have 24 hour assistance at the front desk and they were always lovely and honestly, I couldn't tell that we weren't at a hotel with their service (except for no extra soap LOL).
-Parking: quick, easy, always available.
-Laundry! We were able to do laundry on our floor (free, can get $2 pods from front desk) towards the end of our stay before heading to Kauai, which was AMAZING.
We ended up going to Kauai for the 2nd part of our trip and stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn and we were missing the Whaler condo and its amazing location right on the beach the whole time!
Minuses: We really didn't have any, but if I have to:
-bring your own body wash (again, ABC store available in Whalers Village)
-no tiki bar on property (altho right next door in either direction)
-never got in the pool or hot tub because there were always people in it, altho it looked fairly empty when it opened in the morning
-kind of wish there were directions for checking out printed and available in the space b/c I wasn't sure what to do with towels, linens, etc and was too lazy to go back into VRBO when we were leaving lol (just a suggestion)

This place is just wonderful, right on the beach and with such a wonderful view! The place is very clean, just like a 5 star hotel and much more spacious. It's next to the shopping center where you can get take out food and enjoy them on the balcony with unbeatable view and fresh air!

This room was absolutely perfect and a great price.
You want to be in this tower because you do not back up to Whaler Village, where there can be lots of noise, and on the side facing Black Rock for a great view. We were high enough so that the property across the way cannot see into your room, and high enough to get a full 180 degree view of ocean and golf course. If you are a few floors lower, it will not be as private.
We bought groceries at Safeway and this place had all the utensils, pans, blender, etc to make any food we wanted to.
You are close to
We went snorkeling at Black Rock and saw a giant turtle, an eagle ray, and many beautiful fish.
The photos shown do not even do it justice. A beautiful view no matter where you look from the balcony.
I highly recommend this place to any couple looking for a romantic getaway!
