Our stay was to begin on Sept. 1. Because of the fires and many notices from officials on the island for us not to come, we asked for a refund or credit on a future stay. Host said that we didn't buy trip insurance and we needed to deal with the consequences. VRBO itself refunded their part but the host did not refund nearly 5K. I asked for at least cleaning fee and property damage fee refunded. At first she said "no" and didn't want me to contact her again. After being ignored for a long time she replied that the situation was still fluid...she did not have power at her unit at that time. At that point she offered to refund cleaning and property damage. I told her we needed to be fully refunded. She could not ensure/or provide the agreed upon accommodations. Airline gladly refunded, luau gladly refunded, rental car gladly refunded...but not our host. She would not make an exception on this most horrible of events. So, we 3 sisters lost our vacation that we had saved for. No Aloha from Sherry. Very sad at our lost chance to be together

The Whaler is in a great location and we loved the location of the unit on the ground floor. But the whole unit needs upgrades from the furniture to the bed and pillows and the appliances. The carpet is fraying at the entrance along with many stains throughout. We saw several roaches in the unit (sorry to the owner) and it needs a major cleaning under things and a pest control servicing.

This property is exactly as advertised. This is our first trip to Maui and this has been the perfect location. Sherry was responsive and helpful with great suggestions. The unit is comfortable and perfectly located steps from the pool and beach, and we were able to watch sunsets from the patio! We will definitely stay here on future trips.

Just steps away to the pool and beach!! Loved being on the ground floor and not have to use the elevator. Beach chairs and boogie boards were put to good use. Great view from the Lanai,

We have stayed at the Whaler 15 times, two in this unit and the location can't be beat. With two young kids, the ground floor access to the grass area, pool and beach is unbeatable.
The unit is a little dated, but well kept, clean and provides everything needed for a fantastic trip.
We arrived to the Whaler about 45 minutes prior to check in, contacted the Owner, who always responds promptly, and she was able to accommodate an early check in.
I would absolutely recommend this unit, location, and Owner to all those looking to stay at the Whaler.

I have been enjoying The Whaler since I was a child, so I really have no complaints on anything related to Maui and staying at The Whaler. My now husband and I fell in love in #107 7 years ago, and we try to stay in this unit every time we travel to Maui. We love the ground floor access, the unit is comfortable and stocked with anything you may need. We are pretty low maintenance guests, OPHC every day (ocean, pool, hot tub, cocktail). It really is our home away from home. Sherry is communicative and accommodating, offering tips for restaurants and activities on the island. We hope to have many more stays in 107.

We are long time renters at the Whaler and this was by far our favorite rental. It was beautifully decorated and stocked to the max with anything you could possibly need for your stay. It felt like you were at home but in paradise. We had a wonderful stay with our family.

Unit was nice and roomy. We had to move the couch to retrieve something and it was very dirty underneath Not sure when it had previously been moved. Unit could use a deep cleaning.

Great stay with very convenient location. Being steps from the beach and a short walk to Whaler village made this stay with a toddler a breeze. Good communication with the owner who had the unit nicely appointed with everything we needed. Would love to come back.

We love The Whaler, location is great! Sherry is a great host, she always responded in a timely manner to questions/inquiries about the unit. The pictures in the listing are accurate. Check in process was easy, we found the unit to be clean. The location on the ground floor was great, enjoyed sunsets every evening! The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes, flatware, cooking utensils and drinking glasses. The cookware is sufficient, but would be nice to have a couple newer non stick skillets. The unit has both a drip coffee maker and a Keurig, also a toaster & blender are provided. Each bathroom had a blow dryer and plenty of bath towels provided. Nice size closets with lots of hangers and dresser storage for clothes. The couch was comfortable with throw pillows. There is not a washer/dryer in the unit, but there is one down the hall free of charge, very convenient. Overall, We found the unit to be quiet and very relaxing- We hope to return to this unit! Sherry, I have a couple recommendations; ceiling fans would be a nice touch, we travel with small battery powered fans that came in handy during our stay. The air is very stuffy & warm without fans. I would also recommend, In the bedroom, both the mattress and pillows be replaced; TBH- the mattress is pretty hard (uncomfortable) and pillow are flat as pancakes!

Loved the location since grandkids were on site and could hang out in courtyard and our condo. Very disappointed in condo quality. LOTS of old junk in kitchen, poor appliances, bathrooms old and bed old and needing replacement. We would not stay in this condo again considering the beautifully remodeled units other family members had for the same price. Owner is super nice! As we should all expect right? She’s making bank and not putting anything into improvements. Pretty sad.

We loved this bottom floor unit. It was clean with a well-stocked kitchen. Such easy access to pool and beach from the lanai. The Whaler was in a perfect location. We walked to Happy Hours several nights next door at Hui Hui and Monkeypod. We also walked to Black Rock for snorkeling on several occasions.

If you're staying on Kaanapalie, nowhere else like The Whaler for a great location and value without the rat race of grubby handed, ignorant mainlanders rushing to for their Starbucks and the like. I would never stay at the Westin or Marriott. Quiet, reserved, first class, our own kitchen to cook, just like being at home in a first class resort with the stunning views, sunsets and all that Kaanapali and Maui has to offer.

It’s not the fanciest property on Kaanapali but it’s 300 steps to Hula Grill 😊🥂. The condo was amazing and even though we only had 2 people it would work for a family or even two couples to share. Best spot on the grounds. Loved it 😍

Great location! Ground floor. Close to everything... beach, pool, gym, BBQ grills, shopping and restaurants. Watch the sunsets right from your own lanai. The kitchen has everything you need. Beach chairs and towels and an umbrella were wonderful to use. Owner is very responsive and helpful. Will definitely rent again.

We have stayed on the west side before but never right on Kaanapali Beach! Amazing location, ground floor unit. We weren’t sure about that because we’ve always stayed on higher floors.
We loved this. Walk out the door and you’re right on the beach or at the pool. Gorgeous huge Lanai.
Sherry has everything you need for your stay! We cooked in some, and also walked to the many restaurants. Our fav was walking up and down the walkway hitting happy hours! Everything is here!!
The unit is very spacious with 2 full baths. It was just my husband and me but it worked out perfectly as we weren’t bumping into the other! Huge amount of storage!! You won’t have an issue finding places to put your things.
You will not regret renting this unit. We loved it. Aloha and and thank you Sherry for sharing your beautiful condo.

We just got back from staying at Sherry's place for 10 days and we had an absolutely fantastic stay!! This unit has everything you'll need for your stay. I can't say enough about the location in particular the fact that's it's on the ground floor. It was so nice not having to go up and down the elevators. We're already looking for dates for next year and will definitely book this unit again!!

We had such a wonderful time! The location is perfect! So close to the ocean and pool. Great to be able to take a break to grab a sandwich, drink or snack, not to mention being able to use the restroom! The unit could use a little bit of updating but it did not take away from our visit. Would definitely return.

The ground floor is great. Easy access to everything, beach, pool, bbq and village. Kaanapali is a great beach. Lots of turtles swimming in waves. Condo has boogie board, beach chairs and umbrellas. Condo is a little dated but location makes it worth it. Definitely will come back. 😎
