We booked the property based on the reviews, location and a unique and spacious layout. I can only affirm all of the positive reviews. The condo was spotless, the beachfront view was stunning and we were provided with everything we needed (beach towels, snorkeling masks, coolers, beach chairs, kitchen equipment/supplies, binoculars, etc). Additionally, Janice was exceptionally responsive to all of our questions before and during our visit. All things considered, the property was an outstanding home base for our vacation. I would not hesitate to book this condo again - we look forward to spending more time in this special place.

This property has it all, literally! The owners have thought of everything to make your stay feel like home. Communicating with the owners was easy and they responded so quickly. The view, superb! Beds were firm and comfy, kitchen fulky stocked. Plenty of beach towels as well. They had spices and oil for cooking, ziplock bags, ice packs for the cooler and nice beach equipment, at least 4 beach chairs, 4 boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, full face mask and goggles and snorkel. It definitely is t your "typical" rental. You can tell the owners take pride in their property and keep it very nice. It will be our place when we visit the Big Island from now on.

We are a family of four with two tween girls. The property was perfect for us: spacious, clean and modern. Two ample bedrooms, a good-size, well-appointed en-suite master with a big second bathroom. Kitchen had plenty of necessaries for cooking and storage. Comfortable dining and living area. We loved the outdoor balcony where we had breakfast watching the waves crashing on the shore about 100 feet away! The complex has three pools, tennis courts etc and is conveniently situated for local beeches, restaurants etc.
The apartment comes with a stock of books, games, and beach accessories. Janice is a pleasure to deal with, replies promptly to any questions and clearly put thought into ensuring our stay would be a delightful one.

Janice and Bruce’s condo is amazing. It has breathtaking oceanfront views (best location in the complex) and you get to be lulled to sleep by the waves. The condo was spotless when we arrived and I cannot overstate how thoughtfully and throughly well-equipped the condo is for visitors. The only thing we needed to get for our family was a few groceries. We were so sad to leave the best rental ever and we can’t wait to hopefully stay in this condo again.

We had such a great time at this beautiful home. The location is as close to the ocean as you can get. It was so nice to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves. This condo is equipped with everything you will need for your stay. You can cook meals or head out to nearby restaurants. It is around the corner from the best snorkeling beach on the island. You can kayak, SUP, and even surf nearby. Thank you for another perfect vacation!

Absolutely loved the location, property grounds and facilities, and the condo itself - incredible view on the lanai. It was immaculately clean, everything worked just fine, and was fully supplied with necessities. You can tell the owners take great pride in keeping their unit in excellent condition which was greatly appreciated and obvious. The only thing one might consider is that this is a lower level unit and there are people above you which can get a little noisy at times. This is not a criticism of the owners by any means (since they have no control over this) but only something to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper - no worse than being in a hotel room with people above.
Can't say enough positive things about the unit and look forward to returning in the future. Thanks so much for your hospitality and always staying in touch before arrival to make sure things went smoothly (which they did).

This home was the perfect place for our family of adults to have an amazing time on the Big Island. We were mesmerized by the ocean waves sitting on the lanai celebrating the sunset every day. Slept soundly each night with AC and comfy beds. The condo had what we needed to make meals, fun at the beach with towels and chairs, and perfect distance from so many places to enjoy. Loved that we could wash clothes, and didn’t have to buy those common household items. The condo complex was quite, easy in and out, and convenient parking place. We hope to return again soon And will stay here again. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

We have enjoyed this spacious condo many times over the last dozen years or so and it continues to impress. The location and views from every room cannot be beat. The rooms are very large and well appointed with many upgrades. The kitchen has everything you need to make delicious meals after shopping at the nearby farmers markets and local KTA store. We have never required the A/C and enjoy opening the windows and sliding doors to let in the cooling breeze and soothing sounds of ocean waves crashing on the very close lave rocks. Sit on the lanai in the mornings to watch for spinner dolphins, divers, kayakers, outrigger canoers, fishing boats and more. The Kanaloa grounds around the condo are very well maintained and the area is very quiet and safe. Kanaloa has easy access to close by white sand beaches, restaurants, shops and roads leading to anywhere on the island. It is a perfect home-base for exploring the Big Island. Highly recommended!

This is a great property for watching the surf break on the rocks just below the deck. And for sunset photos as is west facing. And for whale spotting.
The unit is roomy and very comfortable and well maintained and well stocked.

We've been coming to Kona since 1991 and have stayed in more than a half dozen different ocean front two bedroom units at Kanaloa over the years. This unit is by far the best. Since we discovered it some years ago we always stay here. On top of that, Janice and Bruce are super hosts. They bend over backwards to make sure everything is perfect. Can't wait to come back next year!

We stayed here for 10 days! The sunsets every night were amazing. All paper products were supplied, cleaning, toys games, flash lights. Janice and Bruce kept in touch with us. The AC broke the 2nd day we were there. All workers in HI are slow. They did what they could to get the AC going. They did all they could! would stay here again!

We’ve stayed at many units in the Kanaloa at Kona resort over the years. This is by far the best unit with the best location. We have stayed there now many times and each time the wonderful owners have made many improvements. This unit is fully equipped with everything you need for a wonderful vacation from beach gear to kitchen appliances. The condo is right on the rocks with views of Kona and Keahou Bay. Every night you are lulled to sleep by the waves on the rocks. Around the corner from the Kanaloa there is the wonderful Kahalu’u Beach Park with the best snorkeling on the island. The Kanaloa has three pools, 2 tennis courts, and exquisite landscaped grounds. Up the hill is the Keahou Shopping Center with a Long’s Drugs and a grocery store. It’s close to Kona but far enough away from the crowds to make sure you have a relaxing vacation.

Instant "Ahhh"...first impression walking in the door and kept on delivering! Ocean FRONT - waves crashing and ocean breezes. Best equipped kitchen we've ever enjoyed (and we've stayed in many rental properties!) Comfy beds, new appliances, loved the A/C, such a quiet location, convenient grill, enjoyed all three pools. Property is safe and gorgeous. Appreciated the in-room safe, although felt completely safe! So many thoughtful touches - mini reading lights in the bedroom, tons of beach towels/toys, cooler, ziplocks for left-overs (we cooked almost all meals at condo). Closet full of books, flashlights, puzzles, games and good info on local eateries and activities. Good TV, comfy furniture, lots of charging plugs and speaker to play Hawaiian music off phone. Everything takes a bit of driving to get to on Big Island, but 20 miles from Costco/Airport, and hour from mega-resort/beaches. 20 minutes from Two-step snorkeling to the south. 2 minutes to nearest shopping and post-office. Got a free manta ray show by walking to Sheraton minutes away. Excellent home base - we could not wait to return each afternoon to air-conditioned comfort, blender drinks, patio views, showers and deep, cool, peaceful sleep. Wonderful, responsive hosts. The best property we've ever rented in 20+ yrs traveling to Hawaii - and that is say A LOT! Staying in this unit ended up being a large part of why we enjoyed our vacation as much as we did. This was our first trip to Big Island. Would recommend this unit a heartbeat!

The place was immaculate with a well stocked kitchen and a stuffed front closet that had everything needed to enjoy the outdoors. Snorkel gear, lots of towels, chairs, boogie boards, and a good sized cooler. The view is as good as you get on the island and we spent many a sunset sitting on the lanai. The only thing I would change is our bed was a little too firm for us. That being said I would and probably will rent this unit again.

This was by far the best supplied VRBO I have ever stayed at...all we had to buy was food. Janice leaves thoughtful things you may need like cotton balls, hydrogen peroxide, or feminine products for emergencies. Most gracious hosts ever. The setting is lovely, with the waves crashing on the rocks and the view from the kitchen AND living room. You do not notice neighbors at all. Very peaceful, enjoyed eating on the porch. We had a wonderful stay, thank you so much!

We had a lovely stay at this condo. We were there for six weeks and enjoyed our time. The lanai was right above the ocean and provided the most spectacular sunsets and other views. The condominium complex is older and dated, But very well kept up. The few issues that we did have were handled satisfactorily by Janice, the owner. This is a lovely condo and we enjoyed our visit.

I traveled from Maryland to see my daughter and family .. my first trip in over 4 years. My daughter lives on the other side and we wanted to have a “safe” place to stay and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. This place was amazing. and the description of the condo was completely accurate. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai .. all the pools, spa , ping pong and even tennis. was super time!! The experience was very pleasant and working with Janice was very easy!!

The condo was fabulous!! Located near a grocery store, restaurants, public beaches and more. Plenty of room for four adults with 3 of us in the kitchen at the same time. Kitchen FULLY stocked with every gadget. Lanai was right on the water with spectacular sunset views. Closets were stocked with games, books, tennis and pool equipment. Laundry right in the condo was a plus since we could wash our clothes for the second half of our trip.

There are so many things to love about this Condo but I think it is the little things that are outstanding!
When we first arrived, the condo was found immaculate! Not a grain of sand under foot or a crumb in the toaster. It just put us at ease about booking a private rental. The set up is lovely. The dining area is very nice for having a dinner but we spent lots of our time there on the lanai. We pretty much started and ended our days there. The view is amazing as the sun rises and sets and the ocean waves coming in is both calming and exhilarating! We absolutely LOVED our time there, it is a great space for reading, relaxing, cocktailing, eating or just discussing the great adventures of the day.
There are so many other things to love about this condo! With two bedrooms and two baths, the second bathroom is huge with two sinks and tons of counter space and a beautiful shower. The towels are soft and luxurious and there are so many, unlike at hotels where they never seem to give you enough. The second bedroom has a nice walk in closet which was super convenient. The beds are firm and the sheets were soft and comfortable, again, nicer than many hotels. The master bedroom has even more space.
The kitchen is extremely well stocked! Nice pots and pans of every size as well as baking pans for anything you could want. I loved the Kuerig coffee pot, I think they have any small appliance you could think of, we used the blender to make some frozen tropical drinks. We loved that they had foil and baggies and garbage bags and spices, plus nice kitchen towels and pot holders! If you are heading to the pool or beach, their beach towels again are huge and luxurious, seriously NICE towels!
The resort has several pools we only used the ocean side pool and it was really nice and never crowded. We watched the sunset from there one of our evenings. There is no pool bar but even better because we made our own cocktails and enjoyed them at the pool. If you were going out on adventures they do provide snorkel equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, coolers and more!
The unit is in an amazing location, probably the closest to the ocean edge and the parking is a short distance away conveniently near where we dropped off the garbage. The location of the resort is also very convenient to activities, snorkeling spots and beaches.

Highly recommend this condo. The oceanfront view from the lanai was spectacular and relaxing. We enjoyed watching the early morning boats and canoes, and the supplied binoculars allowed for close inspection of the boats and canoes as well as the distance ships. We especially enjoyed the sunsets from the lanai.
The condo was very clean and extremely well supplied. The kitchen had all the utensils, dishes, glasses, spices and small appliances (toaster, blender, coffee makers, etc.) one could want. The front closet was full of beach equipment – boogie boards, snorkels, fins, and chairs. Beach towels were available. The unit was nicely and comfortably furnished.
The complex had three different pools, including an oceanside one. The condo was very convenient to Kona, Captain Cook, and water activities.
The owner was immediately responsive by text to our questions.
We had a great stay! This was our fourth trip to the Big Island, including our third stay in the area south of Kona. We would choose to stay at this condo again.
Highly recommend for a family of four or two couples.

Everything was explained once at the condo we had no more questions. 3 pools to pick from for a swim or hot tub. The ocean pool was always busy but the other 2 very few people. Great view from the lani. Enjoyed coffee there every day and the perfect sunset. Would stay here again. Only issue we had was kids in the upstairs condo. We could hear them running around. Had everything we needed comfortable cozy spacious and welcoming.

We just returned back from our stay and everything was exactly as described. Very neat and clean. There wasn't anything we needed to go out and buy other than food. It was nice to have all the extras for going to the beach. The sunsets each night from the balcony were beautiful. The tourism on the island seems to be close to normal. We were surprised how crowded a lot of the beaches were. Lots of kids too!

We grabbed a week in June after someone cancelled, and then realized how difficult it has been with the rental car shortage: we would love to extend the stay but just cannot get the car rental reservation extended accordingly! The condo is always clean, comfortable, and has everything you would ever need. Janice is fantastic to work with, as usual 😆. I do notice that she updates beddings and appliances often so almost everything is new or like new. Love the new bedding in particular! Look forward to our next stay!

First...it must be said that the owner Janice was extremely responsive to all our requests and questions. She provided loads of information to help us plan a wonderful trip to Kona. The condo is located right at the ocean edge with an incomparable view of the sunsets. Open the slider door to the lanai and listen to the sounds of crashing waves. We love the sound of the ocean...but if you think crashing waves are "noisy"...then it's not the place for you.
The condo has the best stocked kitchen of any condo we have ever stayed at. We were want for nothing...it even had a French Press in addition to the standard coffee maker. There were even many spices and loads of laundry detergent...things you hate to buy for a one week stay. There were several beach chairs, coolers and other beach toys/accouterments. The unit is well furnished and appointed.
The only small complaint is that the unit gets quite hot. We were there in late October and the temps were in the mid to high 80's. The way the unit is oriented, the tradewinds don't provide any cooling effect. Even sitting on the lanai, there were no breezes..which, when it is cooler would be great...but not when it's hot. And there was very little circulation of air inside the unit other than what is provided by the ceiling fans. Be aware that you can have A/C, but it is an extra $30 + tax per day.
All in all...great condo, great owners and would highly recommend.

The complex is beautifully landscaped and as we got to the front door of the unit the view was already breathtaking. Once inside, it was only more of the same view...oceanfront and then some. The condo met and exceeded our expectations and we wouldn't change a thing. The master shower was granite walls and the person who installed the granite was a true artisan as the "movement" matched. Going in August we had prepaid for AC, however, only used it on 2 occasions mainly because we spent our time on the lanai with expansive views of K-K to the north and of Keauhou Bay where the boats gather in the evening to watch manta rays. The kitchen was fully stocked, even had a French press for morning Kona coffee. Beds were comfy, towels good, great beach chairs, even a first aid kit. Wish I were still there.

The condo was everything we expected, right on the water and very roomy. The extra treat was that the condo was equipped with everything imaginable to enhance our Kona experience, like games, books, Hawaiian CDs, beach chairs, tennis equipment, etc.

We have been coming to Kona since 1999, and found this condo on VRBO. We have stayed multiple times for up to nearly 4 weeks. Have stayed alone, with friends and even had our adult kids join us. All in all, never unhappy travelers. The owners really go out of their way to ensure all is beyond expectations, unfortunately, there are some that have written a few, unfavorable comments, which in our opinion, are a bit unreasonable, and not the sentiments of the majority of people that have enjoyed this wonderful place. Over the years, we have shared a few suggestions, which the Patterson's have embraced. When staying, and in need of facility attention, or assistance in any way, they are right there for you. For those who have complained about a particular concern, you would have benefitted by calling during your visit to share, providing the owners the opportunity to resolve. Sooooo much pride is taken in caring for this place, and concerted effort to make it feel like your own home. The recent upgrades are INCREDIBLE, and cleanliness unsurpassed. You may think the pictures are too good to be true, but don't be fooled, the photos are 100% accurate. The location is 2nd to none for the ocean views, and unit privacy. In January, we watched countless whales breach and dolphins cruise by. Athough we too, wish there was a BBQ on the lanai, it is against policy due to the fire potential. Yes, the grounds could benefit from additional locations throughout the property, however, up to the HOA. There is now a beautiful restaurant within walking distance in the harbor area and worth the walk. Some tours originate in this harbor too, which is great! Stores are close and the Kona Trolley to Downtown is right in the shopping center. Having an adult pool is certainly a plus, and although there are not any activities on site, we always have a car to get to all that Kona has to offer! Must say, would be really nice to have an exercise room there, to burn off all those calories added during vacation, however, again, one of those HOA discussions we presume. It's often the little things that make the big difference. This condo had an abundance of both. The ocean view, ease of access at ground floor, choice of 3 swimming pools, tennis courts, beautiful sunsets are amazing, but we were so delighted with all the additional thoughtful bits that made our stay so memorable - the small cooking ingredients, oils, condiments; such a well equipped, good quality kitchen; the amount of beach towels, beach seats, cooler boxes, beach umbrellas, snorkels etc ; there is a whole cupboard of books and helpful items! Highly recommend the Fair Winds boat trip to Captain Cook monument that was a highlight for us. The boat is a short walk from the condo too. The owners were incredibly helpful and we had just the most amazing time. Thank You. We will be back.

As frequent visitors to the Islands we have stayed in many condos over the years. This unit was by far one of the nicest we have ever had the pleasure to rent. The views are outstanding and we enjoyed watching the whales, dolphins, outrigger canoes, and fabulouse sunsets from the lanai. The little things: free wifi, netflix, complimentary interim cleaning on our three week stay and a newspaper delivered daily to our front door made this stay unique from other rental properties. The kitchen is fully equipped with every appliance imaginable. This is the perfect unit for two couples traveling together with double sinks and private bathrooms for each bedroom. The beach supplies were outstanding. Comfortable beach chairs, boogy boards, coolers, beach towels, shopping bags and everything you will need for your stay were provided and in excellent condition. The unit has been recently upgraded and we found everything immaculate and clean. Thank you for sharing your condo with us and allowing us to enjoy the expansive ocean views of the magnificient Kona coast.

We enjoyed two weeks at this lovely condo. Views from the lanai were spectaculer, whales galore, kona sunsets, and daily outrigger canoeists. Recent upgrades to kitchen and bathrooms were great. This is one of the best equipped units we have ever stayed in...all supplies, appliances, beach accesories, spices and other condimentsmade our holiday very easy. Even a daily local paper delivered to the door eachmorning.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at your condo. It was one of the most well- stocked places we have stayed at. The patio view of the sunsets each night were something we looked forward to at the end of our day. The location was ideal - close to town but far enough away for just enjoying the ocean.. Your condo size was perfect and didn't feel cramped.
The only thing that was a little frustrating was that the condo office charged to have you access your own boarding passes and then each page that is printed for return flights.
The owners of the condo couldn't have been more accomodating and gracious and we will definately stay here on our next visit to Kona.

We visit the island of Hawai'i often because our son and daughter-in-law live in Kona. We've stayed at several of the resorts, but wanted more of a home away from home experience. We were fortunate to find this wonderful oceanfront condo. We watched glorious sunsets, spinning dolphins and a canoe race right from the lanai. Bruce and Janice have thought of everything needed to make any stay even better than an oceanfront room at one of the resorts. The condo is well maintained, clean, tidy and uncluttered. It is equipped with everything needed for a fun day at the beach (beach chairs, mats, ice chest, towels, even boogie boards) and for day to day living at the condo (dishes, cookware, serveware, every possible utensil, paper goods, towels, and the list goes on). There's even a binder full of tips for enjoying a stay on the island.

8 NIGHTS IN HEAVEN-We have been to the big Island 5 times each one a vrbo experience. This was the best all around experience we have ever had. Quiet Oceanfront with views to kill for. The 3 or 4 pools were uncrowded minimal kids not tha we dont love kids but we did leave our eight grandkids home for a reason. Beautiful gardens and geckos galore. We watched turtles from our lanai a great place for breakfast. Shopping less than 1 mile away. Stay here for the vacation of a life time.
Best snorkel trip done by Fairwinds a short walk . I shore fished just in front of our lanai. A farmers market at the Keauhau Shopping center just a short walk away. Hula school performances weekly at the shopping center.Buy fresh fish a the marina north of Kona and cook your own meal with the freshest fish you'll ever have. We did all our meals at the condo saving hundreds of dollars. Grills supplied were cleaned every day. Grounds were spotless.

We enjoyed our stay here so very much. The home is furnished with everything one could possibley need to enjoy their stay in Hawaii, right down to ice chest and ice packs frozen and ready to use! We loved the location, sitting on the lanai, looking out at the ocean, watching and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks. We would definitely like to return to this little piece of paradise.

My husband and I have visited the Big Island annually for the last 20 years. We have stayed in numerous different units at Kanaloa. The units vary greatly in terms of cleanliness, amenities, and comfortableness. What we liked about unit #1802 was 1) how friendly and helpful the owner was when responding to our emails. 2) The unit was spotless when we entered. It was obvious that the unit had been cleaned from top to bottom. 3) The beds were comfortable! 4) the quality of the towels and linens and the fact that they had a linen closet for us to obtain more when neeeded. 5) unit had washer, dryer, dvd player, t.v. cooler, beach towels, beach chairs. 6) furniture on lanai was wonderful! we LOVED the way the chairs rocked back and forth. 7) air conditioning so we could sleep at night. And last, but NOT least, there were NO snarky notes from the cleaning service. I kid you not, we have rented Kanaloa units from others in previous years and have been charged $150 cleaning fee(standard) only to check in and find a snarky note telling us all the housekeeping chores that are expected from us before checking out: wash towels and linens, take out trashes, sweep and things I'm sure I've forgotten. I don't mind 'helping' the cleaning service get a jump start by getting the laundry going BUT I do mind the demanding and threatening tone in the list that is left for us. Thank you Janice for making our stay wonderful and carefree. I hope to rent from you again!

Driving into the development, the fatigue from the trip lifted as the lovely landscaping soothed us. Then into the apartment and we were so thrilled. My wife spent many very happy hours on the lanai - we have perhaps a hundred photos of the waves breaking and even a movie with sound to remind us of the setting. None do justice to the actual view. As we left my wife told me she was not ready to leave the view of the ocean. She spent most of our last hours in the apartment on the deck.
We vacation three times a year and almost always rent condos. We have never rented one so carefully prepared and thoughtfully provided. We never imagined we would have a closet filled with rich towels, or another closet filled with books and lights and candles - everything we could possibly use. We loved the washer and dryer and again it was provided with detergent for our use. Scuba diving, my wife was pierced by sea urchin spines (sounds worse than it is, but then I was not pierced was I?) and the kitchen even had vinegar - the treatment for her injury! The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the linens excellent, everything about the apartment was perfect. This type of careful preparation of the unit enabled us to fully enjoy all of our time on the island.

We have stayed in several condos on all of the islands and by far this condo was the best!! The ocean was "at your front door." The ammenties and the furnishings were "top of the line." The views absolutely beautiful. We were sorry we had to leave, but resposiblity called!! Hopefully, we shall return in the near future...

This is a very nice condo. It fit my wife and three teenagers easily. The Master Bedroom is great- I wish MY bedroom was this large! The view from the lanai is very relaxing- I could have spent most of my time right there but the kids had to go-go-go all the time. We stayed the last week of July, 2009 and were glad we opted for the air conditioning. It was pretty warm. It is nice that Bruce and Janice provide a cooler and other beach items. The pools at the resort are also nice, and I was able to cook out a few times on one of the many gas barbeques there. In all, I would highly recommend this condo. Kevin C.

Unit #1802 - Kanaloa at Kona is wonderful. We had a great 9 day stay there, December 2008. It is furnished with top quality amenities throughout, and the owners seemed to think of everything guests would need or want. The items in the kitchen are very clean and much nicer than one would expect to find in a rental unit. But the view from the lanai is the clincher - couldn't be better. Only feet away from the crashing waves, we heard the wonderful sound all night as we slept peacefully. We had breakfast and lunch daily on the lanai and spent many hours just watching the ocean. We highly recommend this unit!
