The cottage was an ideal home for us while on Maui. It was clean and had everything we needed with great views and beautiful landscaping. Hank is a great host who is not intrusive but eager to make sure everything is going well with the stay. The location was very convenient for getting everywhere we wanted to go and was close to excellent restaurants. Everything about it was beyond expectations and made for a wonderful visit to Maui.

This is our second time at what we call Hank's Place (or Hank's Hawaiian Hideaway, sometimes). It is tied with one other place (in Spain) as our favorite share rental in the world. Hank is a wonderful and reliable host -- there when you need him; not there when you don't. Best of all, it is a FRAGRANCE-FREE RENTAL!!! (Not counting the soaps and shampoos that are provided; but the bedding is, the most important part; and also, no annoying potpourri.). Although you are on the "rainy side" of the island, that is no problem for us. The trade-off is that you are in paradise, surrounded by beautiful nature in every direction, and complete privacy. I could not recommend this place higher. We hope to come back every single year.

This was our third time staying at the cottage. It is out of the way and provides the peace we need. The cottage is beautiful, and the surrounding are serene.

This is our second time at Hanks. It was as beautiful as the first time. Hank is such a wonderful guy who would bring me lettuce and lemons from his yard. Love the privacy of the place and Haiku is such a great time. Close to beaches , Paia Ana Makawao.

This unit is fabulous. We stayed for 2 weeks due to the great stay we had last year. Hank is a terrific host , he has thought of every need you could possible have. Perfect getaway for everyday life. Mahalo Hank

We were looking for a private place to stay away from the resorts and we found just that. Hank was more than kind. The cottage was perfect for the two of us. We loved the surrounding community and probably would have never found the local charm without staying here. We did not want to leave.

Lovely home and location. Private, gorgeous gardens and foliage surrounding, excellent attention to details, outdoor showers unique and refreshing, the close village of Haiku adorable and great restaurants, and very helpful owner next door. Highly recommend.

December 2023
This cottage is magical - so private, relaxing, and lovely. Hank was a wonderful host - there when we needed him and gave us privacy when we wanted it. The cottage is beautifully situated, overlooking a gulch with sweeping views of the ocean in the distance. The location is convenient to much of Maui, the beaches, upcountry, and the Road to Hana were nearby. It was a perfect place to spend a week - I only wish would could have stayed longer!

STOP LOOKING AND BOOK THIS PLACE!!! Hank’s cottage in Haiku is the best of everything, a world away but easy access to the best of Maui. Very secluded and private but also minutes from Haiku town. We stayed here 5 nights and wished our entire 10 days was spent in Haiku. The cottage is in pristine condition and looks even better than the pictures. Hank provides everything you could need and more: beach towels and chairs, coolers, shade umbrella, bamboo mats, and masks and snorkels, etc. There is even a yoga mat! The bathroom is stocked with all the basic toiletries and even extras that guests have left behind like sunscreen, aloe, body lotion, etc. Outside is the tub, laundry area and outdoor shower, all necessary supplies are ready for your use. Although we did not cook, the kitchen is well appointed. Hank even provides a snack basket with fresh fruit and flowers from his property and plenty of snacks. If you are lucky you will meet his cat Max! Our favorite things to do and see: Ho’okipa beach and lookout, Secret Beach, Baby Beach and Pa’ia town. Massages at Ashiatsu Massage & Wellness on Baldwin Street. Golf at Pukalani CC and dinner at Kula Bistro, Mama’s Fish House, Nuka and Pa’ia Fish Market. Breakfast at Jaws Country Store and Colleen’s. Hank is a great host and takes pride in his property, we feel lucky to have stayed here and met him. We will be back!

This property is a dream! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will absolutely be back. This is a unique cottage in a quiet neighborhood away from the tourist scene. However it is a short drive to everything you want to do in Maui! The quiet and waking up to song birds and sunrise every day was so relaxing. An unobstructed view of the bay and west Maui- can’t beat it! The restaurants and grocery store 5 min away are so great! The owner leaves awesome fruit for you to enjoy and gives you complete privacy. Stay here- you will love it!

We loved our stay and the property! Loved the sound of nature and rain at night.

October 2023
We really enjoyed our stay at this property! The views were great and the location was fairly central for our island adventures. We had pretty much everything we needed there. Loved that they had night lights, beach chairs, soft sided coolers, chip clips, and lots of other little touches that most rentals don’t have. It did get a bit warm in there at times, but the 3 ceiling fans and Vornado fan helped. The tub on the lanai was great for cool nights and early morning soaks while listening to a variety of birds. There’s chickens everywhere on Maui and the roosters will crow a lot! We loved seeing all the geckos and lizards on the property. One night we saw a large buck (deer) as we returned from dinner. We loved the privacy here and we were still a short drive from the beach, restaurants, shopping, groceries, and other activities. The bed was really comfy but the pillows were just ok. The outdoor shower was great to rinse sand off and the indoor shower was really nice with good water pressure. Hank was a great host and we would stay here again.

We loved our stay at the cottage. Hank was wonderful with his recommendations and accommodations. We loved house peaceful and serene the cottage was! We also loved the local restaurant Colleen’s and ate there 3 times during our 1 week stay! We highly recommend the miso mushroom starter! We hope to come back to this cottage in the future! Mahalo

We spent an entire week here, and every minute was bliss. Hank is a perfect host. His line of communication before and during the stay was friendly and helpful, both online and in person. The property is even better than the beautiful photos on the site portray. The king-size bed is super comfortable. The couple's outdoor shower and the extra large tub on the porch both have views to die for and the privacy is complete. The location was perfect for us to explore the whole island and to hide out when we just wanted to hang and chill. Which we did. A lot. We were so at home here. We can't recommend this cottage enough.

September 2023
This cottage is the perfect spot for couples. It’s private, yet still close to fantastic restaurants, beaches, and excursion spots. We were so grateful that we chose to stay here over a more popular (and busier) location. We’d also like to give Hank 5 stars! The cottage was fully stocked, no detail overlooked, and all of his recommendations were spot on.

August 2023
We had an amazing week at the Cottage. Quiet, close to the town of Haiku and some of the best Sushi on the island. Hank is a great host, his garden and the grounds around the cottage are beautiful. We will definitely be back. My wife wants to install an outdoor shower now!

July 2023
We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our 8 nights here in this Upcountry gem. Welcome basket included fresh fruit from the property and it never seemed to run out with fresh fruit showing up throughout our stay. The views were second to none and only noise was the wildlife and was very private. Location was great giving you a good starting point to all parts of the island. Hank was a great host, as was this cottage. 10/10.

July 2023
Hank does an immaculate job of maintaining this ocean view property. The landscaping around the cottage is gorgeous with many beautiful flowers and freshly grown fruit and vegetables from Hank's garden that he offered for us at any time during our stay. We spent quite a few morning and afternoons just sitting on the lanai enjoying the view and the weather. One of the most alluring aspects of this place was that it felt very private because of how the landscaping is done, which was a huge plus for us over the resort/condo feel of most places in West and South Maui. The Haiku-Pauwela and Paia areas nearby were some of our favorites of the whole trip! During our July visit, it stayed fairly cool a majority of the time with temperatures heating up slightly towards the afternoons but there was nearly always a cool breeze and occasional rain to help. The owner is extremely accommodating and was very helpful with providing clear directions for the property. The check in and check out process was a breeze as well. Highly recommend!!!

Really liked staying here , it's out goto for Maui

May 2023
Our third stay at the cottage was just as wonderful and relaxing as our first back in 2019. The place is beautiful and off the beaten path and we'll definitely be back for a fourth time in the next year or so. Highly recommend if you're looking for something different from the resort atmosphere.

May 2023
This property is an absolute must for a honeymoon - a secluded, beautiful, unique property with a view of the ocean! This is a spot we hope to come back to in the future! Far enough from people to enjoy the privacy but close enough to beautiful little towns and more importantly a Raising Canes to make this a truly amazing location! Hank is amazing to meet and spend some time chatting with - such a cool life! His hard work on the beautiful property shows!

April 2023
My favorite days of our stay in Maui were the ones where we stayed at the cottage the whole day … first by our own choice, then on a day that it rained all day. It is like living in a garden paradise. We are definitely going to be back as soon as we can.

This place was amazing!! The scenery is beautiful. You can see the mountains and oceans every morning and night! Great location and Hank is the nicest host you can imagine! Let me pick lemons and oranges right from the property! The place was immaculate and had everything you could need. Just booked for next year!

February 2023
We stayed for two weeks and really enjoyed our time. Everything is clean and comfortable (wish we had gotten the brand name of the bed) and the amenities are well stocked. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals in, though one of the best sushi spots we’ve ever been to is just a few mins away (Nuka). The host was friendly, helpful, and quick to respond. He also shared fresh vegetables from the garden and had a basket of snacks waiting for us when we arrived. The cottage is very private and quiet, off the road a bit and surrounded by the jungle - the views are breathtaking. And you’re in a central spot on the island so it’s easy to get to Lahaina, Kihei, Hana, or up Haleakala. Only heads up (because it doesn’t seem to be in the listing) is that this is a studio, not a 1 bedroom. We both worked from here for two weeks perfectly fine (the internet is strong and there’s a table on the lanai).

Michael D.
February 2023
I absolutely loved my stay here. It is very peaceful and private place. It feels remote and far away from everything, yet you can get into town for groceries and good restaurants is a few minutes. I would absolutely stay here again and hope to do so soon.

January 2023
We were here in Maui for our wedding and honeymoon. The property was absolutely beautiful! We really appreciated the privacy. Waking up every morning to the birds calling and roosters crowing was so relaxing. There was fresh fruit for the picking just down the driveway. The outdoor shower and soaking tub were glorious. The views from the lanai were stunning. The bed was comfortable and kitchen was nice.

This is probably our 10th year at this property. Allays spotless, well maintained, quiet and private. If you want to get away from tourists and the beach, and enjoy rainforest-like climate, singing birds, and lush vegetation, this is the place. Hank, the owner, could not be friendlier.

Split our time on island and this was the perfect end to our stay. Quiet, serene wonderful views. The grounds and property were very well maintained and we just had a perfect time here. Can’t wait to come back to unwind again soon!

November 2022
Staying here was like something out of a dream, we were overly impressed and fought everyday on whether we should explore or just stay in. It was clearly well thought out as far as needed items and then some. It was clean and comfortable while Hank provided the best hospitality and service. He was friendly, prompt, and made us feel welcome! Would definitely recommend for your stay in Maui. It’s located on the prettier side of Maui in our opinion and we felt like we had privacy from the world, thank you!

Hands down, an amazing experience from beginning to end! Hank was amazing and greeted us as soon as we hit the drive way. He was very informative and ensured that we had everything that we needed, which included daily fresh fruit and flowers. The views from this cottage are breathtaking. Whether morning or night, you will be blown away. Don't be shy to use the outside shower and bathtub; it's exhilarating! We would definitely rebook with Hank in the future. Thank you Hank for everything

October 2022
Hank and Barbara made sure everything was perfect. Hank was wonderful about making sure we had fresh papaya’s for the morning from his fruit trees. We loved the privacy of the cottage and the ability to really experience the true Maui appeal. We have memories we’ll take with us forever. Thanks Hank and Barbara for sharing your cottage with us as it was a little slice of heaven for the week. Sean and Jess

October 2022
This place was just what we were looking for. Very private, yet not isolated. Indeed everything we wanted was a short drive. It's clear there is thought and care put into the maintenance and selection of kitchen items etc. Very comfortable bed and furniture and everything felt very updated and modern. The cleanliness was noteworthy - immaculate. Though surrounded by a well maintained garden and in the midst of a Hawaiian forest, we expected to need to contend with a few critters here and there. Nope! We would definitely return, and indeed have even discussed a longer term stay once we can get a few things aligned to make that were career-wise. Also - our host Hank was very helpful and thoughtful. Though living next door he was very respectful of our privacy and his home is completely shrouded in foliage from the cottage.

September 2022
We stayed a full week at Hank and Barbara's haven on Maui. We couldn't have asked for a better experience in any way! Private, secluded, rich with beauty indoors and out. Just practically perfect in every way! We will be back!

September 2022
Had a wonderful stay! Hank is an amazing gardener and has the entire property surrounded with gorgeous plants and flowers(: Felt lots of privacy with all the surrounding trees. Hank was very respectful of our space and also such a kind host. We felt very comfortable inside and kept the screen doors open to let in the cool breeze. Haiku is a lovely town and we’ll connected to lots of places you’ll want to go.

July 2022
This cottage is like staying in a private botanical garden. The cottage is a wonderful Polynesian style architecture that is meticulously maintained and clean. The furnishings and bed are comfortable and the decor is charming. It is quiet and private and yet you feel welcomed by the host who lives on property. He is available, friendly and helpful and yet totally respectful of your privacy and never intrusive. He left a wonderful welcome basket that included fresh fruit he grows on property and provided us papayas for breakfast fresh off his tree. The tub on the lanai and outdoor showers were amazing. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the tub in the evenings and showering in the rain. We can not say enough positive things about this property and host! We can’t wait to come back and stay longer next time!

Lauren G.
July 2022
We have only just left the cottage and are already missing it the little island home away from home. Hank and Barbara were amazing hosts…very responsive during booking process, always prompt to respond to questions that arose leading up to our stay, and lovely to briefly meet upon arrival! This was a honeymoon trip and we could not have imagined a nicer atmosphere. Sweeping views from the wrap around lanai made for perfect backdrop of many a dinner outdoors. Constant breeze flowed through cottage making sleeping lovely. There was a basket of goodies including fruit right off the trees on property. The outdoor shower (which we thought would be a nicely wed use once or twice was the only shower we used…nothing beats washing away the sand with the ocean backdrop and warm breeze). All we can say is the pictures don’t do justice to the amazing cottage. This was my third time in Maui but first time staying in upcountry (previous visits had been in resort area in west maui). This was a wonderful location that felt more authentic and private. We enjoyed all the little towns in that area. It was a great middle point to get to crater or beaches or many other sights. If you are looking for a little less hustle and bustle this is great location. Hopefully the next guests enjoy ad much as we did!!

The cottage was just perfect for us 2. The location the views the birds chirping, the weather the stars at night everything was just perfect. The outside shower was the highlight just loved it and hot water was always available. Hank was a great host and very attentive to making everything perfect for us, sorry we didn’t get to meet Barbara. We will definitely stay here again hopefully once or twice a year, our home away from home. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Mahalo 🌺🌈🌴

February 2022
Most amazing place to time out from the world for a bit. The hosts are super helpful while being super respective of your privacy and space. They shared fresh fruit from their orchard with us and had everything in the place perfectly ready. We have stayed at a fair number of VRBO, but I cannot think of a single improvement for this one to share. The location is in a perfect countryside, but close to everything. If your looking for a Zen place to relax with someone special…book this place and you will not regret it. My only hesitation on recommending this place is the greedy fact that I can’t wait to go back so hope we can book again soon. :-0 Thanks again Hank and Barbara…Well done! See you soon we hope. January 2022
We had a great stay at Barbara and Hank's cottage. It is the perfect place for two, with a cozy, clean and comfortable indoor space, great patio with outstanding views and everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The location is convenient to both Paia and Haiku and is within a 15-minute drive to anything you may need, from restaurants, groceries and shops, to incredible beaches and the beginning of the Road to Hana. Barbara and Hank were great hosts who were available when needed but never intrusive. Thank you, Barbara and Hank for hosting us and we hope to return soon!

This property was amazing and exactly as advertised! Everything in the home was so comfortable it even made it pleasant to hang around on rainy day. The property is convenient to several small towns worth checking out and nicely situated near the start on the road to Hana. Staying here will not disappoint.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The cottage is nicely furnished, beautifully decorated, and well maintained. The surrounding garden offers privacy yet the cottage has spectacular views of the bay and countryside. Barbara and Hank are great hosts who are responsive, professional, and kind. Their attention to detail is very apparent in all aspects, making the cottage a fantastic home away from home!

Sometimes the pictures of a VRBO are selective in showing the property, omitting the fact that it's next to a major highway or some other annoyance. In this case, the pictures don't do the place justice. Yes, it's on the same property as the owners, but they've placed it so there is absolute privacy. The owners are lovely people who clearly love Maui. This place is perfect. The bed is comfortable (always a crapshoot with VRBOs) and the views are accentuated by two sides of almost all glass doors. The ventilation allows all sorts of delightful smells into the room and birdsong is a constant but not annoying reminder you're not at home...you're on vacation. The outside shower was a particular delight. It has warm water, so it's not a beach rinse-off type shower. It's a legit shower and it feels great to stand under warm water, with sun hitting parts of your body that usually don't get much. It's decadent. And again, private. It's five minutes from Haiku Town, which has most of what you need. Grocery store is well-appointed and not outrageously expensive, though expect Hawaii prices. Remember that most if the stuff in the store has to be shipped several thousand miles, and that ain't cheap. There are a few food trucks in the parking lot, which are fine. The sushi at the restaurant in town (Nuka) was very good. Baked on Maui is a great little breakfast spot at the old cannery, a great place to chat with locals (and their dogs). If you want long fine sand beaches, you might have to drive south to the resort area, but we loved Baldwin Beach ten minutes away just the other side of Paia. Again, mostly locals. We are already planning on our return trip in three years. So many places to go, so little time...

Scott E.
November 2021
We were welcomed to a spotless cottage with fresh, local fruit and flowers. The view of the countryside and bay were spectacular, as well as the view of the night sky. Perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks Barbara and Hank for having us!

October 2021
This could not have been better for our 1st time to Hawaii! The place was absolutely immaculate and had everything you could need from battery operated candles to bandaids and hot tea! The view was spectacular 360° & the mornings were perfection with only nature to hear from all the beautiful windows surrounding the cottage. The cottage architecture was beautifully done & the location was so close to the beginning of the road to Hana, Paia shopping & beaches as well as Haiku market & food options. Book this... you won't regret it Mahalo🤙🌺🌴☀️

September 2021
We absolutely loved staying here. The cottage is private, relaxing, has incredible views, and much more. The location itself is also pretty cool - not your typical "touristy" spot, which my wife and I really valued. It has a really intimate and intentional feel which was awesome :) And the outdoor showers were easily the most refreshing showers I've ever had in my life (not to mention with the best view of all time). Seriously. The cottage also has local places close by (within a few minute drive) to eat/pick up groceries which was a major plus. Nuka (sushi place in Haiku) is a must, we literally went 3 times during our stay... Barbara and Hank were very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions we had. They were incredibly helpful and we felt well cared for by them.

September 2021
This property is just stunning. The host really thought of everything. This is a one room cottage with a separate bathroom. When you walk in there is a fruit and snacks basket which came in handy on our rode to Hana trip! To the right is a defined living room with a deep and comfy couch as well as a lounging chair. Behind that is a KING bed with a dress and night stands as well as a full size closet. Plenty of space to unpack however there is no need to pack heavy as there is a washer dryer on-site. To your left is a kitchen with all the basics you need for a week plus maybe a few extra appliances. We made a lot of use of the blender. There is also a microwave, toaster over, two burner hot plate, full size fridge and much more. This is located about 20 minutes from Paia so it’s nice to be able to cook for yourself instead of driving into town 3 times a day! The bathroom is well stocked with toiletries and has a full-sized glass shower. Outside is the soaker tub. We were really excited for this but it isn’t exactly big enough for two people but was actually almost TOO big for one person! So we made daily use of the STUNNING outdoor shower. That shower is how this Vrbo earned the title paradise. Showering outside, over looking the ocean and their beautiful garden is just something else! The lawn and garden is well manicured and includes a variety of beautiful flowers and plants. Maui county requires that the hosts live on site so don’t let that surprise you but we only saw Hank and Barbra once each. They were very polite and respected our space. This was a first class stay and I highly recommend it! The hosts truly thought of everything you could want or need!

August 2021
We feel so lucky to have stayed in this gorgeous rental. We were blown away by how beautiful the grounds were -- they were nicer than our city's botanical garden! -- and the beautiful views. We loved how peaceful, quiet and private this property was, and spent the majority of our time when we weren't out exploring the island enjoing the lanai, and the fantastic outdoor bathtub and shower. When rain canceled our plans one day, we were more than happy to spend that time relaxing here. We loved staying in Haiku and close to Paia, which both have a chill village vibe with plenty of dining options. Barbara and Hank were excellent hosts and have made sure the rental has everything you could possibly want or need. We were very sad to leave, and hope we will be able to stay here again one day!

This is our second time staying here and we absolutely love the place! Very clean, comfortable bedding and furniture, wonderful breeze all day and a fantastic view and outdoor shower and tub. Very private and quiet, except for the morning birds and pleasant sound of the wind. We plan to be back!

11 nights and we wished for much longer. The ultra-clean, immaculately prepared cottage, with Barbara’s loving touches, was the perfect anniversary stay, and the setting?… Tropically lush, serene, tranquil, beautiful, scenic, very private. We loved the outdoor showers, so unique. The Maui government was having a hard time letting go of Covid controls, so we did a lot of carry-out dining on the deck and what an amazing setting. The 100% 5-star reviews are accurate and deserved and say the rest. Barbara and Hank are the ultimate 10-star hosts you always wish for, accommodating and helpful, yet respectful of client space. We will return.

This Cottage is elaborated and well equipped in a beautiful surrounding. We had a great stay and with the privateness we felt much more comfortable than in a big resort. With the position in Haiku you could reach everything within a short drive. Beautiful beaches are nearby... close to Paia. We also loved to look at the turtles at the Hookipa Bay. Barbara and Hank are very kind owners. Everything was perfect!!

Barbara has thought of everything with this amazing vacation retreat. My fiance and I stayed at a Grand Hyatt resort in Kauai prior to our stay here and both agreed that we preferred the Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage, hands down. Literally every need is anticipated--I would start to say something like, "Ok....I just need a--oh--there it is!" This happened multiple times. The tiniest details were thought of from hooks on the deck near the outdoor shower to the perfect hanging rack in the bathroom to every kitchen item you need to the Ultimate Maui Guidebook (which we actually bought and forgot!) to the washer and dryer outside to the little faux candles on outdoor tub (so much better than a jet tub!), light switches labeled so you don't have to wonder what goes to what, a sun screen near the little table on the deck.... I could go on and on. Lovely touches such as the welcome basket with fresh fruit and snacks, little fresh flowers placed throughout the house, NATURAL products such as lotion & air freshener in bathroom, etc. Barbara called about 1/2 way through our visit to make sure all was well. Toward the end of our visit it did start to get warm in the cottage during the day--not an issue really since we sat outside even when we stayed put between our hikes. Not sure if this is just the case in the summer but overall, the cross ventilation was great. The place was immaculate when we arrived and I'm rather OCD so this says a lot. Pictures do not come close to doing this place justice. The grounds are drop dead gorgeous. Even though the main house was close by, we felt we had total privacy and this made me feel very safe and secure as well. We woke up (in the UBER comfy King sized bed) to birds singing (an occasional rooster crowing) and the sound of the brook that runs through the property. Simply the most relaxing place I've ever been. Will definitely return here if we make our way back to Maui. Location is perfect as well--close to Paia (have a friend who lives there part time and one reason we chose to be near it. He had raved about Mana Market which was truly awesome for health nuts like us.) We also loved Mama's Fish House--a fun, unique dining experience. And Cafe Des Amis in Paia. Great central location, near the road to Hana (yes, survived it!) and the Haleakala crater. So much to do and loved every second. Mahalo to Barbara for sharing your property and making it possible for those of us not lucky enough to live in Maui! :)

Wonderful stay in Haiku at this cottage. Super clean, quiet, good bed, all the requirements. We felt it was centrally located to things like Paia, Hana Highway, Baldwin Beach, Baby Beach, Mama's Fish House, nyloS Chef's Table Restaurant, etc. Hosts are friendly and nice, even bringing flowers one day. We enjoyed time on the deck, in the rain, playing cards and when it was nice and we'd been out all day at the beach, taking an outdoor shower! How cool is that? Wonderful.

We love staying in Hana and Haiku, when we visit Maui. These places are the opposite of the resort culture on the West coast. We love staying in a quiet neighborhood in our own little cottage! This cottage really is heaven on earth. The view out to western mountains and ocean is to die for. The plantings are beautiful. And the cottage itself, is just lovely. So private, and with such thoughtful touches. Barbara and Hank have done a beautiful job with this rental. This is pretty high end for us, but it is so worth it. We hope to return Many more times from Maine, in our future! Mahalo! Melora and Jim

The ultimate compliment one can give to a vacation property is when you return to stay and stay for an extended period of time. We 1st rented Hank & Barbara's Hookipa Bayview cottage in 2016 and loved it so much, we returned for an 18 day vacation in 2017. Kathy and I have fallen in love with this heavenly tropical paradise, beginning with the owners (especially Barbara) who do everything possible to ensure an awesome experience. The cottage itself is about 200 yards off the road on a private drive. Totally secluded. Although the owners live approximately 50 yards away, you can barely see their home due the beautiful and exquisitely maintained, and dense trees, flowers and plants (banana trees). You have all the privacy you could possibly want and would not even see the owners unless you made a point to do so (which you must do as they are great people). The interior is beautifully maintained, with every detail covered. Wi-fi, tv, which we only turned on once for a few minutes to see if it worked, then immediately turned off. I cannot describe the bathroom amenities (tub and shower) as we took every shower outside (two times a day) except for the days Kathy utilized the lanai bath for long night soaks. Unbelievable how the stars at night seem to be so close to you as there is no light pollution. Even during heavy rains, you still enjoy the shower, much like a hot tub during the snow. Can you tell this is one of our favorites? Sitting on the lanai at night is the ultimate way to unwind after a day at the beach or hiking. We usually did not get home till dark, took a long shower and to bed by 9pm. Once the sun goes down it is quite cool and pleasant sleeping (no need for air conditioning (this is coming from two folks from Texas). We love to hike the waterfalls along the Hana highway, the Waihee Ridge Trail, Waihou forest trail hike by Makawao, jump of the cliffs at the Venus Pool, the Red Beach at Hana, rappelling (by the Hana highway), went to a Journey concert, Warren and Annabelle magic show and dinner in Lahaina, Red Beach in Hana, Big Beach, Wedding Beach. Eating at Mamas Fish House is our special night out on vacation, Paia Fish Market, Da Kitchen Cafe, Halaiimaile General Store, the distillery tour, the glass factory tour, snorkeling and whale watching. You don't need much more than a backpack or small suitcase as the washer and dryer are quire handy! We will definitely try to make it back in 2018! Michael and Kathy Colleyville, Texas Aloha!

I was traveling to Maui for the first time on business. I extended my trip and stayed in this lovely spot. It was quiet and centrally located to several things I wanted to do. Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts, checking in on me and making sure I had everything I needed. The property is beautifully maintained by Hank and I reaped the rewards with fresh citrus! I hope to come back!

We really enjoyed our 6 night stay at Barbara and Hank's wonderful cottage in Haiku, Maui. The setting, privacy and beauty were outstanding and the cottage was immaculate, lovely and perfectly equipped. We enjoyed our nightly soak in the tub out on the lanai, followed by a warm outdoor shower. We made use of the beach chairs, cooler, and cold bag on our drives, which included Hana Hwy, Haleakala NP, Up Country as well as South and West Maui beaches. Our last day included close by Ho'omana Spa for their couples retreat spa package. The cottage is just perfect if you are like us and shun resorts for a more quiet and private experience. The Klines are gracious hosts who were welcoming and kindly shared delicious fruits grown on property as well as a tour of their garden.

Started our trip in Waikiki then to Kihei, Maui. Both enjoyable but we were ready for a quieter side of Hawaii. This was perfect and very romantic. Accomodations were neat and clean. Bed very comfortable and outdoor bath was nice in the evening. With windows open at night, all we heard was the soothing noise of the running stream below. Would definetly return for a longer stay.

Words can't express how thrilled we were to find this wonderful cottage in Haiku. We've been staying on Maui every winter since 2008, for weeks at a time, and we've stayed in many different places all over the island. Our former rental cottage was sold recently, so we had to find a new place. We are so grateful to Barbara and Hank for opening up their cottage to visitors like us. It is a gorgeous property--and the peace and solitude cannot be matched. The view from the lanai is breathtaking--the photos on the website only give you a hint of the vast beauty surrounding the property. The house was immaculately clean, and it is one of the best-maintained homes we've ever stayed in. The bed was comfy, and the washer and dryer were awesome. The kitchen had everything we needed--right down to a salad-spinner! The gas grill was great---heated up in minutes! Great shower--with adjustable sprayer. There are citrus trees all over, and Hank keeps a very large vegetable garden. We had all the oranges, tangelos, and tangerines we could eat! The location couldn't be more convenient to Paia and Makawao. Finally, Barbara and Hank are just lovely people. We look forward to returning someday soon.

Too remote and a drive to anywhere. No place to walk & definitely not to cycle directly from here. Roads too narrow winding.Once in Paia parking is almost impossible. It takes an extra 15 minutes just to get through town due to traffic. We were told it was unusually rainy, a daily event with extreme wind, but others spoke to us about long periods of rain in their experience. If we go back it will be to the other side of the island with walking and cycling available. Tough to know based on an on line description.... we'd have loved to go for an evening walk along a trail or even a road. If the guest house and property weren't so lovely we would rate it lower. Picking oranges off the ground to freshly squeeze was nice also. I don't think we've ever driven so much on a vacation only to stay in the same place each night. Not terribly restful.
