We've stayed at this property multiple times over multiple years. It is by far the best place to stay that we've experienced in decades of traveling to Maui. The host (Carrie) is pleasant and caring and really wants to make sure that you have a great time while you're on site and has become someone who we look forward to seeing every year. The house itself is a great size (not too big, not too small), but the real special part are the outside areas that allow for pure relaxation. You'll see amazing sunsets while relaxing alongside the pool. It's as good as it gets.

Move over Disneyland, we found THE most magical place on earth.
We booked this cottage for our 30th Anniversary, looking for a private, relaxing getaway, and we were not disappointed! From the moment we stepped through the double doors to the PRIVATE pool/outdoor bar/outdoor barbecue and 2 separate outdoor showers, it was breathtakingly beautiful and by far exceeded our expectations!
The cottage is beautiful, very clean (I didn’t see one bug in the house our entire stay) and very well stocked with everything you need to prepare your own meals. It definitely had the home away from home feel. The cottage may be in the back of the hosts home, however, they did a great job of separating the two so it is extremely private with your own entrance. We rarely saw the hosts (giving us our privacy) but they were available if we needed anything.

This oasis was beautiful, but for the price.. it could have been better. The pool was dirty up until the pool guy got there halfway through our stay, this attracted more mosquitoes and bugs than it normally would. There were tiny beetles in the house itself, due to the live plants that are in the home. They have avoided cleaning out a kitchen cabinet that has old medicine and food in it. They keep alcohol in the outdoor bar that has been open and used. The pool shed is especially dirty with snorkel masks that have bugs all inside the breathing tubes. Although they don’t have bed bugs that I seen, they also didn’t have a bed bug cover to protect themselves from getting bed bugs. Although the place was private, it wasn’t really all that private as it was in their backyard. They no longer have a private chef that they are close to and can have come to you and as far as I could tell, a masseuse. You are however able to find one yourself and have them come to you. The people that own the property are really nice people, and greet you every time they see you. We did really like them, but nearly $1000 a night for 2 people? For that price alone, the place should be maintained a little better. You can find resorts cheaper than that with a lot better maintenance and better privacy. The place is private and gorgeous, with a decent view of Wailea and the ocean in the distance. We did enjoy our stay a lot, but if I could give advice, don’t go for a honeymoon.

This was our first visit to Hawaii, for my 50th and our son’s 16th birthdays, and it was exactly the special place we had in mind to celebrate those milestones. Carrie considered every detail - from welcome treats and delicious home-baked banana bread to beach gear to a fully-stocked kitchen to the gorgeous pool and gardens - we didn’t want or need for anything during our stay. It was very close to the resorts of Wailea, many beautiful beaches, shopping and restaurants.
We were here during the devastating Maui wildfires and felt extremely fortunate to be staying in this peaceful oasis. We are praying for Maui’s recovery and hope to be lucky enough to return again. We would recommend this cottage to anyone visiting Maui.

Carrie, Dan & Chris were awesome, there if you need anything. The plant life had grown a little in four years but the landscaping and amenities were the same and perfect! The cottage offers every imaginable outdoor amenity plus beautifully decorated, fully equipped accommodations. Loved having all the beach gear on hand. Attention to detail shows throughout the property.

Auntie Kali's Cottage is, indeed, magical. The landscaping is beyond lush. You will enjoy the birds serenading you in the morning. We only used the outdoor shower even though there are two inside. Carrie has decorated and stocked the cottage so well. It is indeed a tropical paradise. She , truly, has thought of everything. Don't book too many excursions as you will want to be here, in the pool, most of the time. See other recent reviews that describe all that Carrie provides. I am ambivalent about my talking about this “Hawaiian cottage“. Ambivalent because I want to tote it’s many excellent features which include privacy, pool, country feel, comfortable bed, excellent outside shower, first class chase lounges and furniture as well as the tiki bar. On the other hand I do not want a lot of people to know about it because it decreases its availability for my own use in the future. Carrie, The manager, could not have been more welcoming even though she was out of town. She make sure her brother was here to welcome us and walk us through the property. Her mother Jean, 96, baked us a wonderful loaf of mango bread. We want to come back.

I honestly don't think it gets better than Auntie Kali's cottage in Maui. We have stayed a lot of places over the years and both my husband and I agreed this was one of the best places we've ever stayed. We will definitely be back for a return stay in the future. The outdoor space really make the experience - from the lush landscaping, pool, fire pit, outdoor bar to the grill & hot tub, we joked that we used every inch of the place. Carrie, Chris, Dan and Grandma Jean are also some of the most thoughtful & kind hosts you will ever come across. In particular, Grandma Jean's homemade mango bread blew us away. We bought banana bread on the Road to Hana and agreed her mango bread was much better. Also worth noting that we brought our 2 year old with us and the walk in shallow area of the pool area was so perfect for him. We also really appreciated that the cottage had a toddler sized life jacket and sand and beach toys in addition to beach chairs, an umbrella, beach towels and a small cooler that made trips to the beach (when you can pull yourself away from the amazing pool) a breeze. Carrie, Chris, Dan & Grandma Jean - THANK YOU! We can't wait to return. Grandma Jean - our two year old loved you :)

Carrie and her family were the best hosts. We could not have asked for anything more. Our flight was delayed so we didn’t get to the cottage until after dark and Carrie had the yard lit up for us—the photos do not do it justice! My husband and I were in awe of the property. It is amazing. I couldn’t get over all the beautiful tropical plants. The view of the surrounding islands is gorgeous. The pool and hot tub are fantastic and on our “exploring” days, coming back afterward to relax in them and enjoy the property was the perfect end to the day. Even on the days we just hung out at the cottage, it was excellent - we felt like we were in paradise. I’d get up at sunrise just to watch and listen to nature come alive around me. If you enjoy bird watching, you will have entertainment all day long at the cottage. While I was in the (wonderful) outdoor shower, a red crested cardinal hopped right over and then flew to the tree branch in front of the shower. Amazing! We even saw zebra dove babies. The cottage was clean and beyond fully stocked, we had all we needed and then some. Grandma Jean’s banana bread and the apple bananas fresh from the yard were the icing on the cake. Thank you for giving us the best honeymoon ever! I cried before we left bc I was so sad to leave the property. It was heavenly and we hope to return!

...or IT SHOULD BE! If you see this property for rent, book it! We were so fortunate enough to have found dates to book that worked with our schedule. When we arrived we were greeted by Carrie and Grandma Jean with homemade banana bread and fruit waiting for us. Talk about above and beyond hospitality. The property was seriously something out of a magazine. Our own oasis, which our daughter loved every bit of. Carrie truly thought of everything. I can honalestly say we've never stayed in a more pristine location in all of our travels. This by far takes the cake. We will, with upmost certainty, be back.

We had a wonderful and relaxing time while staying at the cottage. We were impressed with the luscious landscape and how perfect the cottage is setup. We found it like a home away from home as it was fully stocked. We wanted to go to the beach but it was so nice we stayed in the private pool and enjoyed the Sun and sounds of tropical birds. The pictures really do not capture the beauty and serenity this tropical oasis provides.

This private paradise was PERFECT. The property is quiet and secluded, with a beautiful ocean view, sparkling pool, charming cottage and tiki bar. We found it nearly too good to be true. Evening visits from a herd of deer (who came to drink from a trough below the yard) was the icing on the cake. Local beaches are an easy ~5 minute drive away, as are terrific restaurants.

We loved every minute of our stay at this amazing Cottage. The private pool and backyard dining area (complete with lounge chairs, Tiki bar, dining tables, BBQ, outdoor shower, grass lawn to name just some of the features) were landscaped beautifully, and embodied everything that makes Maui such a wonderful place. My family stayed at Auntie Kali's Cottage in November 2022. It was truly a dream property. The whole place is beautiful and Carrie has thought of everything. The kitchen has all the tools you need for cooking (even an amazing pineapple corer that is my new favorite gadget!). There are tools for the grill, firewood for the fire pit, floaties for the pool, and coolers and beach chairs for the beach.
The house is very private and located right next to a nature preserve where you can watch birds and see the deer. There is a view of the ocean, and all the beaches of Kihei and Wailea are just a short drive away.
Carrie's mom baked fresh banana bread for our arrival and Carrie generously answered all of our questions. I can't recommend Auntie Kali's Cottage enough!

The moment you step into your private oasis you will find it hard to leave. Backed up to a private wildlife reserve your views go on forever into the sunset. The pool is warmer than most and the spa is perfect. Really enjoyed the firepit on nights were we wanted to just relax after the sun. Love this place and will be back again. My husband and I stay at Aunt Kali’s cottage with our two boys ages 8 and 10. It was an absolute dream. From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. Walking through the doors feels like you’re entering a secret garden. Words can not describe how magical Aunt Kali’s cottage is. The cottage is the absolute cutest, with the most comfortable beds. In the evenings we couldn’t decide whether to relax in the hot tub or crawl into those cozy beds right away. The outside is indescribably perfect. The outdoor shower is incredible! The tiki bar has everything you could possibly need. The perfect spot for a cold drink! The pool, hot tub and view makes it unnecessary to ever leave the house at all! We had an absolutely perfect visit to Aunt Kali’s. We feel forever lucky to have had to opportunity to stay and look forward to future stays! Thank you to you, Carrie, Dan and Grandma Jean. We chose this location based on the photos of the property, description and reviews. Let me start by saying this was the first time we went on vacation and not ready to return home at the end of our stay. The description of the property and photos are spot on. Carrie is a wonderful host. You truly have the location to yourself as a home away from home. The atmosphere is very peaceful and private. There are no interruptions and Carrie is very accommodating. I highly recommend this rental to anyone visiting Maui. We have selected our dates to return and we are very much looking forward to our return visit. We love this place!

This property is so beautiful! It was our private oasis and a great way to finally travel after Covid-19. Carrie was more than your average property owner but she was warm, friendly and throughout our time there she was always ensuring we were having a good time. Carrie and her family are very welcoming and grandma even baked us fresh banana bread. They all made us feel so comfortable as if we were apart of the family. The cottage is as described. It's so adorable and the backyard is your private oasis and very much a 5 start accommodations. Waking up on the morning and hearing the birds chirping, deer walking by and all the sounds of nature was exactly what the doctor ordered. This cottage had all the things you needed that you wouldn't even think of. From Beach chairs, beach towels, robes, cable tv, outdoor market lighting, firepit, outdoor kitchen and bar to yoga mats and even washer/dryer. Some say you can't have it all but in this cottage, you sure can. Thank you for a wonderful family experience.

This property is truly paradise! Behind the doors is your own private oasis with the most lush landscaping, pool, jacuzzi, outdoor kitchen, shower, comfy furniture and great view of the ocean and island. Beach is very close. The cottage is stocked so well with everything you need. The beds are very comfortable. You are provided everything you need - beach chairs, towels, coolers, snorkel equipment, floats. The pictures truly represent the oasis. The hosts are wonderful and we really enjoyed getting to know them and now have a new Hawaiian family ! We cannot wait to go back and will always stay here.

The cottage was everything and more then I expected. We felt so privileged staying there. It was honestly the best place we have ever stayed. The cottage is comfortable, clean and decorated with so much thought. The outside area was paradise and we never wanted to leave. But, the best part of the whole trip was meeting beautiful Carrie, her beautiful mom Grandma Jean also , her very handsome brother and her handsome second son. It’s a great retreat with an amazing courtyard with a bar, BBQ, pool, hot tub, outdoor shower and cute cottage for couples or a family. Loved the cottage! Carrie was wonderful and responsive. Wonderful greeting when we arrived with homemade touches (which I will not give away).Cottage was clean, quiet, private, and fabulous! It had everything we could possibly need. The backyard was perfect for us. We hardly stayed in the cottage except to sleep (and the bed was wonderful). We spent most of our time relaxing by the pool, grilling, and using the outdoor kitchen for lunch and drinks all day. We really enjoyed observing all the deer that visited the field next door every night as well. REALLY enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again when we visit Maui! Thanks Carrie!

Auntie Kali's cottage is almost indescribable! I would give it 10 stars if allowed. You may think it looks great from the excellent photos, but it is actually MUCH better in a way that can't be captured in pictures. The place is gorgeous beyond compare with ALL of the amenities one could imagine. Carrie is the ultimate host. The home is beautifully decorated and totally stocked. I asked her for many activity referrals prior to our arrival. She answered promptly and her selections were spot on. She even found us a private chef to prepare dinner on property the night of our kids' anniversary. Lush, serene, stunning are but a few adjectives one can chose but you really need to experience it to understand. Oh, did I mention that the outdoor shower is fabulous , the pool heated , and that the Tiki Bar has a full refrigerator AND a second dishwasher? Obviously, I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, we will be back again and again. Thank you, Carrie, for a fabulous week in paradise.

Private, Romantic, Warm and Inviting. Carrie and Jim have thought if everything! This cottage does not even compare to a 4 Seasons or Club Med. It by far surpasses any resort or private rental. From the time of booking till the end, they made us feel important and special. Carrie even helped with booking some exciting things to do on the Island. While staying at the cottage it was so warming to see the thought that went into building and preparing a true serene place. Do yourself a favor and don't book to much on the Island, but spend your time at the cottage relaxing and enjoying all there is at the cottage. We HIGHLY recommend this property as it is more beautiful in person than in the photos. It's like having your own private paradise! We enjoyed the pool and hot tub each day as well as the outdoor grill. Even when it rained, we were able to be outside at the tiki bar and have fun with friends. The outdoor shower was great too and had plenty of hot water. Carrie and Jim really made us feel at home and provided excellent suggestions on what to visit and where to eat. Over the past 10 years, we've been staying in Maui condos, hotels, and this was our 3rd cottage rental in the same neighborhood, and we must say, it was the best experience yet! From the moment you walk through the cottage area's gate, you'll realize you are in a private tropical oasis. From the mature landscaping, to "sand" entry saltwater pool, you know it's going to be good, but it just gets better. The finish work in the cottage is beautiful and Aunt Kallie has made sure there is everything you need, from kitchen ware, bbq tools, bathrobes, even down to a nightlight in the bathrooms so you don't stub your toes if you're like me! :) The central air was wonderful to have (don’t always have this in Maui rentals but you DO need it come those hot afternoons when the winds stop), and ceiling fans in every room, including in the bathrooms which I really appreciated.
We thoroughly enjoyed spending time relaxing in the lounges at the pool with the umbrella shading us, listening to reggae on the outdoor stereo, and using the floaters in the pool with tropical drinks in hand. The courtyard was so awesome, we only went to the actual beach once during our 12 days. Yes, the ocean was nice but the privacy of the cottage was unmatched... sorry Ulua beach, you used to be our favorite but you've been replaced.
I have to say that one of our travel concerns is always the mattress. Will it be comfortable? Often it’s not. BUT here, the master bed was AMAZING! Firm, but with memory foam on top so that you sink down. We both slept like a log. Loved it so much, we are going mattress shopping now that we're home to buy the same one if we can find it!
Thank you Carrie and Jim for making sure we had anything we needed. We will highly recommend your cottage to our family and friends, and we will most definitely be back to stay with you on our next trip to Maui!

This property was unbelievable. We stayed here on our honeymoon. The pictures are accurate. Like others have said, it's a private resort. You have your own personal pool, hot tub, grill, fire pit, outdoor/indoor dining, tiki bar, outdoor/indoor showers, and a mini driving range. We couldn't believe that was all ours. At nearby resorts (Four Seasons, Fairmont, etc) you pay so much more for so much less. The unobstructed view out back is beautiful. There's a ton of greenery and the ocean is not far off with views of Molokini. We felt spoiled.
Inside the cottage is gorgeous - really tastefully decorated. Looks like it should be featured on houzz or an interior design magazine. Jim and Carrie are super friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable at all times. Their 2 dogs were adorable. We left our gate open intentionally hoping they'd wander in (they do every now and then if you want them to). There was a welcome basket ready for us on arrival with fresh fruits, local coffee grind, and snacks. There were beautiful fresh flowers in the cottage along with complimentary champagne to celebrate our honeymoon. The bed was super comfy. We have no complaints at all! The kitchen was well equipped. They have travel guides and movies available. There's a shed behind the cottage with all sorts of beach equipment (coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc).
Checkout is in the morning, but our flight back home was late night. There was no one checking in the day we checked out, so Carrie and Jim let us use the place till late. Thanks so much for your kindness and for an unforgettable honeymoon residence :) Love - Danielle & John

We have been traveling to Maui for over 10 years and this was by far the nicest place we have stayed. The cottage was immaculate and the attention to detail was second to none. The outdoor living space was just as amazing with tiki bar and the pool. All extremely private and quiet with a beautiful view of Molokini and Kahoolawe. I have recommended this place to all our friends and we will be back.

We loved our stay at the cottage and couldn't have asked for anything more in a vacation home! The cottage was beautiful and well equipped for our family and Carrie and Jim were wonderful to work with. The location was perfect for getting to the beach quickly and provided a nice home away from home. We definitely hope to go back and visit again!

What a gorgeous place this is. Exceptionally clean and well cared-for, with beautiful decor. The very private yard has lush landscaping, plus a lovely view of the ocean, Molokini and a neighboring meadow. Oh, and the pool and hot tub and outdoor shower...perfection. This is a great place to stay for a family with one or two kids, or two couples. Carrie and Jim were friendly and attentive hosts, there if we needed them but we also had all the privacy we wanted. We will be sure to come back to Auntie Kali's Cottage!

Our stay at the cottage was beyond our expectations. Carrie and Jim provided everything we could have wanted, especially privacy. The attention to detail in the cottage in incredible - it is beautifully built. The landscaping and the pool are are really lovely - it feels as if you are staying at your own personal resort. Close to everything and yet just far enough away . . . perfect. This is an amazing value!

Our family LOVED staying at this beautiful cottage. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner poolside-watching football at the fully stocked tiki bar. This cottage has everything you might need..boogie boards, cooler, beach chairs. The kids happily played in the pool and we watched the sunset from the hot tub. What a great location-close to restaurants like Monkeypod. We will definitely come back to Auntie Kali's cottage. It's a sweet place to stay! You won't be disappointed!!!! Home away from home!!!!
