Fabulous views of both the beach and the mountains from the windows inside the room as well as the balcony. Perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of busier parts of the island but close enough to amenities to get whatever you need and do whatever you like.

Great location right near the beach and secluded enough so you feel like it's all for you. We loved eating breakfast on the patio overlooking the ocean, playing on the beach, swimming in the divinely-warm pool and soaking in the hot tub. This place has it all! Highly recommend and will be coming back!

Amazing location!!! Nice people. Beautiful new pool area. We loved that there was a restaurant and little shop with gifts and snacks on property. The buildings themselves are a bit outdated but still charming. Our only real complaint was the cleaning products used in the unit. We could feel whatever was used to mop the floors on our feet and found the laundry detergent too scented. But that’s an easy fix.

Overall the property was nice and close to the ocean. Our unit did have a bad issue with cockroaches. We found them in the kitchen, bathroom and ceiling. We had to throw out a lot of food before we saw them as they had gotten into our food. We killed more than a dozen a day but they kept coming. In the end the manager did send pest control but it was too late for us as they came after we already had left for the airport.

If you love crowds, being catered to, loads of screaming kids and tourists, this is not your place. If you crave a slice of local living in a serene, parred down environment with breathtaking views, this will be your jam. Tucked out of the way and secluded at the tip top of the island, you'll feel like part of the North Shore community within days of your arrival. We simply didn't want to leave. Be prepared to do a bit of driving in order to get to certain activities on the island, but it's worth it. We're already planning our next stay...

HCR offers an excellent oceanfront location for visitors looking for a stay off the beaten path. The area is quiet, semi-secluded and a short drive to the charming town of Hanalei. However, the unit itself is not a true One Bedroom. This is due to the lack of floor to ceiling walls. Because of this, the unit does not offer much privacy for members of the same party staying in the same unit.

Sounds a bit fatalistic doesn’t it? I have never felt such peace and joy and calm as I did in this sweet condo. The ocean was steps away and lulled me to sleep each night and greeted me in the morning. Sunrises were indescribable. The condo is on the second floor of a four plex and has everything you need. We sat on the lanai and just stared at the magnificent ocean, then turned our heads and stared at the majestic Nepali mountain range. We fixed our own meals nightly - which was a good thing since you’re pretty much at the end of the island. The kitchen was small and dated but served our needs perfectly. The grounds and pool were impeccably maintained. We’ll be coming back every year.

Beautiful ocean AND mountain views directly from the lanai. I don't think there are many places on Kauai where you are beachfront and can fall asleep to the sounds of crashing waves! Note that the beach here is not swimmable, however. The constant breeze blowing through kept the property cool and comfortable.
This is an older property and some repairs could be made. The wooden sliding shutter doors to the second bedroom area need fixing to be able to open/close properly, and the screen doors to the lanai can be tough to open with the salty ocean air corrosion. Additionally, the beach gear provided is limited and needs replacing. The property only has an umbrella and two beach chairs (that are rusty and moldy).
We loved the secluded North Shore beach front location. It was just a short, beautiful drive away from the town of Hanalei for some cute restaurants and shops. Overall, the location of this property is everything and we had a wonderful stay!

There was construction ongoing on the unit directly across from the unit we rented. Also if you book your unit using Expedia then you can Not use the Resorts curtesy van that takes you to the beach as the resort beach is Not swimmable

We were so pleased overall with our stay. The property management was polite and responsive. The ocean view was divine! We particularly enjoyed the pool facilities and Lomi Lomi massages at the day spa on site. Glad we stayed here, near the end of the North Shore road where it was more remote & peaceful. The concierge service was a huge plus in helping set up excellent activities for our family. Will definitely stay here again next time in Kauai. Mahalo!

My partner and I enjoyed every second of our stay at Hanalei Colony Resort. The units are minimalist but clean, the grounds are beautifully maintained and the pool/laundry/grill area is stunning (recently remodeled). The location can’t be beat - steps to the beach, away from the hustle and bustle and right next door to a restaurant/bar (Opakapaka) and a coffee shop. At times, we had the beach to ourselves. Hanalei is 10 minutes away as well. We will be back year after year!

We loved the location of the property, right on a relatively flat beach with easy access. Very friendly people all around. Great bar and restaurant on site with delicious food! We did have a couple minor issues in our unit that should be fixed. Both blinds in the living room are inoperable no way to open one to enjoy the view and couldn’t close the other to block some sun. The main concern was that the sliding balcony screen doors were frozen shut from corrosion when we arrived. My husband spent a long time working on the tracks to even be able to open the door. Then later in the week after a rainstorm, they froze up again. This time he completely removed the doors and spent a long time cleaning the metal rollers and tracks. Maybe plastic rollers would work better? I’m sure all the salt air makes it on ongoing issue. Otherwise it was wonderful there. We were a bit surprised that the curvy, narrow road took an hour just to get to town, but it was a beautiful drive! We’d love to go back someday!

This property was perfect for our two person getaway! We had a bedroom and an office, which ended up being needed. Two bathrooms was a luxury. Balcony was large with a wonderful view and sound of rolling waves...even saw some crazy surfers! I enjoyed walking on the beach each morning. We would definitely return.

My husband and I stayed in unit H4 at Hanalei Colony Resort and it was amazing! What a terrific location. We loved being secluded from the more touristy and populated parts of the island. Plus the location of the unit itself within the complex is outstanding. Just steps from the beach! Walking the beach at first light (on the mornings it didn’t rain) was so peaceful and satisfying. We loved enjoying the sunrise and breakfast on the balcony every morning. The view in either direction from the balcony is just breathtaking. The unit itself was clean and well appointed. The space within the condo was more than adequate for two people and could even accommodate the addition of a young child comfortably. The kitchen was sufficient for basic meal preparation which is nice since eating out is so expensive. The pool area of the resort is just lovely and having guest laundry facilities is quite helpful. Our only complaint is that the bed linens were very heavily fragranced. We contacted Kaua’i Kahuna regarding this and they recommended we place the sheets and blankets into provided trash bags until they could come to switch them out. Kaua’i Kahuna was also very responsive and helpful leading up to and during our stay. They even notified us of road and bridge closures due to flooding and checked in on us via phone calls multiple times throughout our stay. Our stay at H4 was so splendid that we are already making plans to come back next year. I very highly recommend this place your stay in Kaua’i.

Even better than we expected. We loved the chill vibe of this small resort. It was so peaceful. Loved hearing the ocean all night and watching the sunrise from the beach or balcony. Our condo was bigger and nicer than expected- perfect for myself, my husband and our son. Jeanne the concierge was incredible helpful, too. This secluded part of the north shore is heaven. Only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the on-site restaurant- much better options in Hanalei or the kitchen is well-stocked for cooking for yourself.

Our stay here was fantastic. The location is beautiful and you fall asleep to the sound of the waves every night. Beautiful beach right out front and close to Tunnels, Haena Beach Park and 15 min from Hanalei. We loved staying out here instead of up in Princeville. The pool was great and local coffee shop and restaurant made it very easy.

The reservation, booking, check-in process was a breeze and well orchestrated. The resort itself was remote, quiet, and beautiful .......... everything we were looking for. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach as well as the club-house / pool area. Will definitely stay here again. Only complaint is the "hospitality receptionist" work for the resort. As soon as she realized we did not book directly through the resort she turned mean. Honestly rude and discourteous. Fortunately we did not let her spoil our enjoyable time there.

We loved our stay in this peaceful getaway. It was great to come back to a clean and quiet home after exploring the island and falling asleep to the ocean waves and then waking up to amazing sunrises. With a clean, functional kitchen and easy access to an outdoor grill we could easily cook meals for when we didn't feel like venturing out. We loved getting to stroll along the beach, and when the tides were up access to the pool was a great way to stay cool too.We absolutely loved our time there and can't wait to go back!

This place was amazing! The condo and facilities were gorgeous, spotless, private, and peaceful, which is great after a long day having fun on the island. The beds and furniture were so comfortable, kitchen supplies were on point, and there was lots of space to unpack and settle in. They seemed to have thought of everything you’d need for the stay. (I was confused about the vacuum at first, until I realized how much sand my son had managed to drag home from the beach the first day--worked great, haha!) Nice bathrooms with good water pressure. Beautiful view of both the water and the mountain from the balcony. The complex was in good repair, lovely landscaping, a very nice pool, and there’s a great restaurant sharing the parking lot. The outdoor grills worked great the one night we stayed in for dinner. We also fell in love with the north shore of the island. Lots of great places to eat, the most beautiful scenery, and our absolute favorite beaches were close by. My husband loved Lumaha’i Beach, and the river was a great place for our son to play. Kiddo kept wanting to go back to Anini Beach, the water is shallow for ages so it’s quite warm and he didn’t need floaties. I also liked Anini (tons of shade right by the water) but Ha’ena Beach and the cave were probably my favorite. The whole family loved the tour at Limahuli Gardens and playing mini golf in Kilauea. We didn't make it to the lighthouse this trip but it's close as well. Groceries (and butter mochi) at Big Save, fruits and veggies at the sunshine markets. The Foodland store poke is shockingly good and much cheaper than the restaurants.Previously we have stayed in the more crowded areas of the island. Never again. Thanks for a wonderful stay <3

We've stayed at this property twice now, once as a couple and once with our three kids. It was a great fit for us in both iterations. It's fantastic falling asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing and it's lovely to walk along the beach and collect shells practically just outside the door. The remodeled pool and pool area are really beautiful--the landscaping is lovely--and the coffee shop is great for a latte in the mornings. The unit is clean and well-equipped--and the new furnishings are tastefully done. An easy drive to great food in Hanalei. All in all a great vacation rental and we can't wait to return!
