We absolutely loved our stay. We’ve been to several of the islands and love our time away from the resorts and being more in the heart of Hawaii life. This location was absolutely perfect we felt like we were in our own little world and it had the perfect ocean breeze keeping us cool at night.

This property is pretty much located at the end of the line! As far into norther Kauai as you can go! Rugged and beautiful, very unique compared with our last stay in Poipu. It was an amazing locale for our 16th wedding anniversary and our turning 40 trip! We did do a fair bit of driving given the locations remoteness but given that it was us without kids this time, it wasn’t an issue, plus we had a lot of the island that we wanted to tour anyhow! Overall great experience. The “no A/C” was not an issue at all, fans and open shutters kept the temperature very comfortable with a cross breeze coming in from the ocean. The bed was comfortable, the unit was clean and minimalist, footsteps from the beach/ocean (not very swimmable here due to aggressive surf and reef/rocks). Amazing swimmable beaches were all within a 5-20 min drive though and this didn’t detract from our experience as it was part of the adventure.

We made use of the complex grill when the power went out for 24 hours. Thankfully there was some foil provided in the rental, along with oil, salt, pepper, and a few more condiments to grill our fresh fish. The kitchen had everything we needed. One minor issue was taken care of pronto, the other minor issue ( bathroom sink related) has not yet been resolved but did not inconvenience us. The property is lovely, the space was welcoming and comfortable. I appreciated the few games and books available. We had a great time here, hopefully we can come back one day.

Great location on the North shore, close to Tunnels beach. Beautiful view of the sunrise from the lanai. Nice to have the restaurant on site for a quick bite if needed. A little dated but everything else definitely makes up for it. Would come back again for sure.

There were some snacks on arrival, which was nice. The pool and hot tub are nice, and laundry is in that building (but we did have someone take our clothes out and use our washer, and management just kinda said “that stinks.”). It’s coin operated only and there’s no change machine.The condo was dated, and people tried to dress it up with some new bedding and furniture. Not all of the outlets and lights worked, and two of the fan lights would randomly come on at night, waking everyone up. The one fan was unable to be turned off at all. The management at the colony made it very clear we were “outsiders” by booking via vrbo.There is no AC and it is a bit musty in there, lots of dust on the blinds and dividers. No true privacy between rooms. I don’t think you can actually call this two bedrooms.Hanalei is really far North and after a fallen tree one night, we had to wait a few hours before we could get back. It’s also super dark, windy, single lane bridges at night. We were ok with that, but something to keep in mind.As long as you’re not expecting a posh place, it’s fine if you like it up North, and are ok with it just being a stopping area between adventures. It’s nice it’s so close to tunnels beach and you can beat the crown there.Overall, it felt safe, but it wasn’t what we were expecting based on the pics.

Very clean and quiet. Great location. Outlets in bathrooms did not work. Staff very friendly. Kitchen clean and well stocked with cookware, but very few consumables. A bit stingy on the number of towels we were allowed to use ( rather strange)

We booked this for our anniversary and the host had a note and little gift greeting us to the place. The room where was outstanding – from the minute we walked in until we left. The lanai overlooks Shipwreck beach, and it was delightful to watch the sun rise every morning. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay - very comfortable bed and we loved having the AC for our bedroom at night. We would come back to this unit on future trips.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location right next to the beach was very convenient. It was within a long walking distance from tunnels beach via the road and more tiring but much more scenic walk along the beach and just a short drive from Hanalei. The condo and the complex are older but they've done a good job of maintaining and renovating things as is expected to be needed this close to the beach. The railing on the porch was in the process of being replaced while we were there. One issue that needs to be taken care of is the ceiling fan/light remotes. Once we had neighbors in the condo unit above us they were turning on and off randomly at times. It's likely an easily fix of just changing the frequency/channel the remotes and units operate on but it does need to be addressed so the lights stay off or on when you want them that way. The place has lots of windows and 3 separate fans which are important to keep air flow and keep the place comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would likely go back as long as the ceiling fan light control issue is taken care of.

We had a great experience at the Hanalei Colony Resort. It is located in a beautiful part of Kauai's north shore, a short distance from my favorite beach Tunnels. The condo came stocked with everything we needed for our trip, from beach chairs, umbrella, cooking utensils, etc. and it was very spacious for me and my husband.Our ONLY note would be that you could hear the upstairs neighbors walking around and it was disturbing at times (e.g. trying to go to sleep). No problems with other tenants, but just think the downstairs is prone to noise / footsteps from the upper units.It was a wonderful stay and we would stay here again!

The property is absolutely beautiful, clean and the grounds were well kept. The location is quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle but plenty to do with beaches and hiking all around. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had an issue with the lights and maintenance fixed them right away. We will definitely return.

This condo location cannot be beat. The unit itself is dated, does not have a dish washer, but in overall good condition. Benefits are proximity to the ocean and endless beach to explore. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place. It is a good condo to use as home base when exploring this side of the island. A few cockroaches found in the unit, although to be expected on island. Management is not responsive, and if you ask for assistance in the office on site they will not help. They will refer you direct to the management company.

Really appreciated having dedicated wifi in this unit and not having to rely on the resort wifi, it made everything so much easier, especially streaming movies at the end of the day. Loved watching the ocean from the desk while working, and being able to park just a few feet away was perfect for loading and unloading. I hope to come back with my partner one of these days!

Hanalei Colony Resort, a few miles outside of Hanalei, set us up for great snorkeling at Tunnels Beach... the best part of our trip to Hanalei and Poipu. Our unit had a lovely view and the whole resort is quiet and comfortable... just what we wanted.

This was a cute condo, close to beach with almost all the amenities. Furniture was pretty, tho the cushions and mattress are showing signs of wear in terms of being too soft. :-0 But minor. It was great that they had snorkels and beach chairs, but the kitchen was oddly missing some basic items for cooking. We made due. It was lovely being so close to the ocean and you can walk west and get to some nice swimming beaches. Sitting on the deck for breakfast was very peaceful. And it's a short and pretty drive into Hanalei, so this feels like a good place/price. Would def stay here again.

My experience was pretty easy . Understand that the cost of this rental is such that it should be. easy. I appreciate what the market can bear but this is once in lifetime trip and am amazed at what one can bear. This takes nothing away from the property.. it is lovely.

We knew this was a new rental so we were prepared for a few glitches. The response from the management company helped smooth out the issues: no hairdryer, no hangers, only one small bar of soap for the 2 bathrooms. Evan followed up and the cleaning crew provided these items within 24 hours. So I won’t complain. Be aware that the unit is not as complete as some beach rentals. No beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. Also, there was very little storage space as the cupboards were full of towels, pillows, shower curtains, etc. All fixable in time. Note the units in this property do not have dishwashers. Having use of the resort’s shuttle (we were told it was for direct resort reservations only) would have been helpful since parking at Tunnels is pretty impossible and it’s about a one mile walk each way if you go along the road, further and harder walking if you go by the beach. The restaurant next door was not open reliably. The shuttle would also have been useful to get to restaurants in Hanalei, the only nearby alternatives.

Beautiful property right on the water and about 2 miles to tunnels beach and 3 miles to downtown Hanalei bay. Super peaceful and open with a good restaurant and coffee shop nearby. Pool and hot tub were fab!
Would give it 5 stars except the communication during the stay wasn’t great, the outdoor furniture was damaged, and the fire alarm was broken.
