Property management was very communicative prior to our stay to make sure we had contact info in case if there were any maintenance needs. The house was very clean when we arrived and everything was in good working order. We loved the decor, layout and location of the property. We had an amazing time enjoying our coffee on the porch in the middle of nature hearing the sounds of birds and no cars or traffic. We were minutes from the National Park entrance and were able to just go for dinner at the Volcano Inn. Both beds were super comfortable and we made great use of the kitchen/family room/living room ares. We would highly recommend staying here if you want to stay near the national park.

Fabulous base in Volcano. The house is modern and extremely comfortable. Interior layout is open and perfectly proportioned. The beds are great. The veranda is covered so you can be outside in type of weather enjoying the sounds of nature. Just a few miles from the entrance to the park, and close to Volcano village. I would absolutely stay here again.

My entire family loved staying at this house, with its wide porches and gorgeous decor, nestled in the jungle. At night, we could hear the sounds of the jungle, snug and cozy inside the home. Volcano was much colder than we realized, and the wood stove came in handy. The porch allowed us to enjoy the view protected from the area’s intermittent fine mist. It was truly lovely.

Exactly as described. Very quiet (except for the coqui, neighborhood dogs when bothered by feral pigs, and the roosters at dawn). All quite pleasant for the setting and highly recommend! The location is perfect for exploring HI Volcanoes National Park and not a bad day trip for visiting Hilo proper or more Southern parts of the island. On the occasional rainy day, there were plenty of things to do inside--play games, cards, stream movies, or play DVDs. The kitchen was fully stocked with appliances needed to cook, and clean up was easy with the dishwasher. The washer and dryer was super convenient. The porch was a nice place to sit in the morning. The house was spacious and extremely comfortable! Nicely decorated with interesting books to peruse. The tub was a highlight after much hiking at the National Park. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything you could need. Plus, the ceramic cups and plates were quite beautiful! We loved the green house dining room. Wished it was easier to access. The weather wasn’t quite in our favor, so didn’t get to use the lanai as much as we wanted. Plus, the neighbors had a huge party that went into the night, and the local dogs were very vocal throughout our stay. So not as quiet as expected. Rental company was very easy to work with.

Residence is super clean and well decorated with a curated feel. Definitely not a “generic, could have found that anywhere” vibe. Lovely home close to National Park. It was very clean and welcoming and an ideal locale for exploring Volcano and Puna area. Close enough to Hilo if you don’t mind a bit of an (easy) drive. House itself has a great covered wraparound porch for coffee in am and relaxing at end of day; listening to birds and light rain noises- with the occassional barking of dogs. We took advantage of the mix of DVDs in the evening, as well as the guitar. Kitchen has everything you need in terms of pots, pans, dishes, glasses and cooking accessories, for cooking and dining. Lovely dining area in a screened in porch. We stayed 3 nights which was perfect. Highly recommend.

This home was very clean. It was comfortable and nice. Location is good, private, quiet. It got cold in the morning. No heat or A/C. The fireplace would have been nice but when we arrived no fire starter or kindling. Only full size logs. We noticed that at 6:30am our first morning, when we were cold and wanted a fire. They dropped off the supplies on the porch that night at 9:30pm. Not very prompt.

It was fixed same day while we were venturing the island. Definitely rain forest atmosphere and very quiet area. Perfect for us! Such a great house, perfect for visiting Volcanoes National Park, Keaau, Pahoa and Hilo. We were here for 5 nights, which is a good, long time. Very secluded and jungle-y feel, the house was extremely cozy and welcoming after long and full days. But one day my mother in law stayed in while the rest of us went out, and she was extremely happy. Would highly recommend.

This house was EXACTLY what we were looking for and needed. The location was great for our trip to Volcanoes National Park and Mauna Kea. We also took day trips to some other locations. While the house was more of a place to rest and relax and we spent more time away from the house than in it, the house fit our needs perfectly. We loved this place! It was even better than the listing. Quiet neighborhood, close to the national park, and short drive to Hilo for supplies. It was tucked away in a beautiful, enchanting cloud forest, surrounded by tree ferns and tropical plants. The home was spotless, comfortable, and well stocked. We loved the decor- felt like home, with personalized touches and mementos. Spacious, but still cozy. We loved all the different lanais. The beds were great. My husband has a bad back and he liked the mattress better than ours at home (what kind is it?)! I hope we can return some day!!

The property was as described with comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living area and nice outdoor furniture to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest. The property was very convenient to Volcano National Park and Volcano village restaurants and also an easy day trip to see sights around Hilo. Our two favorite activities in the area were the Kilauea Iki hike in Volcano National Park and Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve near Hilo. We also enjoyed several meals at nearby Ohelo Cafe. It was a nice touch to have the manager check in on day of arrival to make sure we had arrived safely. If you're arriving after dark, there are no lights in the area, highly recommend you take the management company up on leaving some lights on! I would not hesitate to recommend or stay at this property if we're in the area again.

My wife, 10 year old daughter, and I stayed at the Hale Mauka for two nights and we loved it! The property is very clean, and the amenities like dishwasher and washer/dryer are incredibly clutch. We used this property as a jumping off point to explore Kilauea and you couldn’t get any closer with these amenities than this. Also, with a full kitchen and screened in porch dining room, we ate dinner in what felt like the middle of the jungle for two nights. Very cool!

This cabin feels roomy for a small family, and has character and style. The decor is cool and tasteful, the spaces made me wish we had a longer stay. There was enough room for us to each have some restful time to ourselves, but a lot of little spots to spend time together, too. We were hiking around Volcano NP almost the whole time we were here, but it was really great to come back to the house at the end of a long day.
My daughter loved exploring around the house, and had a lot of cool things to show me outside. There was a real sense of privacy while also feeling open to the woods.
This place is great, and we hope we’ll be able to return someday!

Great location for more time spent near Volcano & Village. All 4 guests were more than pleased with the property. Property managers went beyond the call of duty with a special request to make the stay special and memorable. Only recommendation is that "half bath" description is a stretch. Toilet shared mud room and was open (louvered pocket door and opening at ceiling above door) to the kitchen. Suggest adding a vent fan to exterior and closing opening at ceiling with glass or glass block. "Super" full bath (including separate shower & soaking tub plus high-end toilet) made up for it.

I have been coming to Volcano for years and have stayed in myriad rentals. This was by far the best experience so far. I received a text from Sabrina on the morning of my arrival, introducing herself and instructing me to get in touch should anything come up. The house was clean, well appointed, and well explained. The house book was very thorough, so read it well. I spent most of my time at the volcano, which was a five minute drive up the highway, and it was super nice to come in after a chilly sunrise hike, start a fire in the fireplace, and make a hot cup of tea in the giant mugs they provide. I’ll also add that a lot of properties in volcano have cleared a lot of the close forest away from their houses. This house is practically hugged by giant tree ferns and ohia trees. It makes it feel like a hidden rainforest cabin. The weather was clear the entire time I was there - a rarity - but I could easily imagine loving that cup of tea in the huge porch while the rain came down on the ferns. I was lucky to find availability here for the exact days I needed — it was entirely booked up otherwise — so if it’s available for your visit, take it.

Communicating with both Shawna and Sabrina were very responsive and pleasant. I arrived in the evening so it was nice to see that the lanai lights and house lights were left on especially while walking up the short flight of stairs with my luggage. I liked that there was a bottle of hand sanitizer on a table outside the front door. The home was spotless and beautifully decorated. I loved the bathroom with deep bathtub and bidet. The beds were clean and comfy. The dining table on the enclosed patio area was lovely. I loved sitting on the front lanai listening to the birds in the morning and not having to deal with mosquitoes. I would most definitely return! Mahalo!

The house was everything we wanted and more. 5 Minutes from volcanoes National park. Everything was modern and clean and everyone had more than enough room. We actually had my infant son on the trip and we didn’t really have to baby proof anything, just moved a couple things into a room with a door. It was the perfect stay. There were flashlights and binoculars available, board games, a wide variety of movies, And our property manager Shawna was always available for communication. The welcome book was also very informative. I highly highly recommend this place. 10/10.

Not too many Coquis! LOL. Only thing is the driveway entrance is quite narrow and could use a little more wiggle room to turn your car around out front. Overall, we totally enjoyed the quiet life.

We absolutely loved our time here. In our three weeks in Hawaii, this home was the most spacious, and we were spoiled by it. Huge, comfortable beds, a stocked kitchen, plenty of room to spread out, a laundry room, and a cute porch to watch the chickens, roosters, pheasants and more. We fell asleep to the sounds of the frogs, and woke up each morning refreshed.
This home is so close to Volcano National, letting us even wake up at 330am and be at the crater to watch the lava lake by 4am. Absolutely a wonderful stay with tons of communication and checking from the property manager. Highly recommended.

My family of four (me, partner, 14 year old, 9 year old) stayed here for 3 nights while we explored Volcanoes National Park. It was just what we wanted. The house is a 4 minute drive to the park entrance. Full kitchen so we could make ourselves breakfast and snacks (important because the choices in the community of Volcano are limited). Two bedrooms with comfy beds, plus a blow-up mattress so my kids didn't have to share a bed. Amazing jungle sounds, very peaceful. Huge screen for chilling during down time. There was an issue with the house's water pump that the property managers worked hard to get fixed in just a few hours. If it had been cooler we would have used the wood stove. It was the perfect place to base ourselves for park exploration. It would even be good to base yourself for exploring other parts of the island if you don't mind driving 45 or more minutes to get other places. Loved it!

Location: Great location, suited for morning walks/run, close to volcano park entrance (allows you to go several times if interested in sunset/night time hike for the lava viewing), note that there are not many restaurants near by ) - thai place was good, and we highly recommend tuk tuk food truck !
Host/Property Manager: very responsive, great communication and did immediate resolution of a dynamic problem with the cleaners crew. made sure that it was completed.
Property: ideal property for a family of 4. Very warm setup, With a very nice Deck - ideal for sipping morning Tea and for Night time relaxed conversations.
Note : we didn't see 2nd bathroom (it had 1.5 bathrooms).
Would definitely stay again.

We were very happy to find such a lovely property with such a close proximity to Volcanoes National Park. Super easy into and out of the park without the long drive from Hilo or Kona. Felt private and secluded, even though we were in the middle of a neighborhood. The rooms were big and comfortable and the host made us feel at home. Highly recommended!

This is the place to stay if you are visiting Volcanoes National Park. the house itself is in a quiet and peaceful setting. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai after a long day of hiking. Everything worked as it should. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We loved our stay at Hale Mauka. It was very clean and well-maintained and we got quick responses to a few questions we had. It's a quick drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was. Although the coqui frogs are quite loud at night. We loved the house and would definitely recommend it and visit again. The bidet and wood burning fireplace were a hit with our family.

If you question is, should I rent this house while visiting the area, the answer is YES!
You can tell the owners really care about this property by how well it is maintained. No wear and tear or run down furniture, bedding, appliances, etc. and it was immaculately cleaned. Everything we needed was there, whether it was in the kitchen or bathroom. And SO CLOSE to the Volcano National Park. We were able to spend the day at the park. Go back to shower and eat dinner and return to the park later at night to see the glowing lava. FYI if you do this, park at Devastation trail parking lot. You will have to walk about a mile to get to it, but it is worth it! It is a paved flat walk. If you don’t or can’t you can see a tiny bit of lava spots from the Crater parking lot. Manager was was great and communication was fast.

This was a fabulous house in a great spot for exploring the Volcano Park. Wish we’d had more time to hang out but what time we did have we loved. The bbq, poker chips, outdoor porch, sounds of the outdoors (birds, etc…) we’re especially lovely. Just wonderful!

Beautiful 2 bedroom house that is updated and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked. Loved the indoor lanai, for us to take in the ambience of a canopy while protected from mosquitoes. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Volcano in the future.

We’ve stayed in dozens and dozens of short term rentals over the years and this was one of the best! A lovely home, a beautiful jungle environment, very close to the Volcano National Park entrance and Volcano Village (though you’d never know it because it feels so secluded).
The owners have taken care to include all amenities one could want. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well-stocked, the bathroom was wonderful with its oversized tub and jungle views. Peaceful, clean and comfortable - we decided we could live there 😊

Came here to get away for the weekend. First night power went out in the neighborhood and we were without power for about 3-4 hours. There aren’t any candles or emergency lights that we could find. Luckily I had a headlamp and used that for lighting. Communication went well with the property manager. The home is cute and well kept. The dining area was a little musty so we chose to eat in the living room. Overall a nice experience.

My wife and I stayed two nights while enjoying the sights of Volcano National Park and especially the lava flow at Kilauea volcano's Halemaumau crater at the volcano's summit. The house is spacious and well stocked. It is very clean and comfortable. The park entrance is two an one half miles away. We highly recommend the rental.

An outstanding property with fabulous amenities situated in a jungle paradise. We were surrounded by gorgeous greenery, the house is incredibly tasteful, the kitchen was great, and we could not recommend this more highly. Be sure to stop on the way to get groceries; Volcano stores are tiny and have virtually no fresh fruits or vegetables.

Location is very private and quiet, surround by beautiful tree ferns seen from every window. Home is tastefully decorated with thoughtful attention to every detail. Immaculately clean. Very comfortable and restful. I recommend it and hope to return. Staff were very attentive and accessible.
