Kilauea Crater, Big Island

Kilauea crater is the largest crater in Volcano Nationals Park. Sulfur dioxide, steam, and other gases vent from parts of the crater. This is the home of Pele, the Volcano Goddess in Hawaiian mythology. The night photo showing the glowing smoke was taken at the same location as the panoramic photo. The exact location is shown on the map - it is near the entrance to the park.
