Hono Kai is the perfect starting point for exploring the beauty and adventure of Maui due to its central location. With so much to do and see, there's plenty of incentive to venture out and explore. Fortunately, returning to the third-floor Hono Kai condo, C-9 provides a quiet, tranquil retreat that feels like living in a tropical tree house.

The serene bedroom offers a comfortable king bed and an AC to help ensure a good night's rest. A Shoji door links the bedroom to the living area, where you'll find a sofa sleeper, a dining set, a flat-screen cable TV (complimentary), and high-speed internet WIFI (400mbps). The bathroom features a walk-in shower for freshness.

The fully-equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing meals that you can enjoy on the lanai. The unit also comes equipped with a Keurig machine and 12-cup coffee maker, although Keurig pods are not supplied.

Hono Kai is a delightful, beachfront complex that provides spectacular, sweeping views of the white, sandy coastline stretching south. From the white, sandy beaches and red Makena cinder cone to Ma'alaea Bay and Kahoolawe and Molokini isles, there is no shortage of breathtaking natural beauty to take in. From December to April, lucky visitors may be treated to a glimpse of Humpback Whales, who visit from Alaskan waters to have their calves. These magical creatures can be seen from the pool and the beachfront of the resort.

The grounds at Hono Kai are impeccably maintained, including the pool, barbecue station, lounge chairs, and on-site laundry facilities. Free parking is available for one vehicle per unit, although it's important to note that there are no elevators. For those who enjoy walking, the 2.5-mile-long Sugar Beach is accessible at the end of the street via Haycraft Beach Park, and you can walk all the way to Kihei. The quaint Ma'alaea Village lies around half a mile west of Hono Kai and provides access to shopping, restaurants, the boat harbor, and the Maui Aquarium.

Hono Kai's central location and tranquil, tropical atmosphere provide an ideal home base for visitors to Maui, whether they want to explore the island or curl up with a good book and enjoy the sound of the waves.

The condo in beach front, not the unit. Amenities were not clean around the condo. The apartment is old but decently furnished. Full of rules and the warnings sounds like they are threatening you if you fail to follow them. The place is far from any place. Nothing is walking distante.

The building was 1970's but the inside of the unit was modern, clean and very comfortable. This was the first time we have booked with VRBO and it was generally a pretty positive experience, The only thing I would recommend is a little more explanation in the welcome packet so that new folks like us know what to do. We thought there would be a reception desk, thankfully the caretakers were able to explain about getting into the lockbox, which was in the welcome packet, but not emphasized for those who are new to the system. Just a thought. Other than that we had a great time and enjoyed the unit thoroughly.

We wanted something close to the beach, reasonably priced, and it had to have good reviews. This place hit all of those requirements on target and during our stay we first-hand experienced the accommodations of the host. From supplying us with starter items like toiletries, and laundry detergent, to giving clear instructions upon arrival, and being very communicative with us, we wish we had more stars to give. We both said when we come back to Maui we need to stay here again.

Apartment was clean and the community was safe. Communication via the app and multiple emails was helpful and the payment process with smooth. I would classify the condo as mid scale not necessarily low or high end. Netflix and Amazon prime were available. The one thing to note is the sliding partition between the bedroom and living room area doesn't block any noise. So if you are planning to watch movies and have children sleeping in the other room, you will need to bring Bluetooth headphones to connect to the TV. Luckily we had some and were able to share.

My wife and were so thrilled with our stay! We had everything we needed, located in the perfect place! Close to Kihei, and Lahiana. Shopping and amenities were just a short drive away, and very easy to get around.

Reviewer Comments: The water was shut off for 8 hours a day for almost our entire stay. There are signs saying to use the park access to the beach due to erosion on the condo entrance. Just FYI, there’s also a hobo camp at the entrance to the beach off that park. It’s uncomfortable to walk through. And on more than one occurrence, we saw people looking to break into cars with flash lights. The condo itself was clean and nice. Good location on the island otherwise. If safety isn’t a concern for you, stay here.

I am so glad we chose to stay here! The condo and grounds are beautifully maintained and the beach access made our Maui vacation so memorable. I was able to take sunrise walks along the beach and grill dinner watching the waves. The condo is small but bright and airy so my family of four never felt crowded. The sea breezes kept it cool. Maalaea is very small but there are tours that leave from the harbor and it's central to everywhere you want to go. Do be aware that it is the windiest area on the island and in the flight path, it didn't bother us but the sound of planes and wind could be annoying if you're the type that needs silence. We were so busy we hardly noticed. The condo comes with some nice extras like a boogie board and beach chairs. It would be nice if there was more in the kitchen. Only 4 of anything and no essentials like salt and pepper. We had to waste a lot in order to eat in and do a lot of dishes. Overall, I loved it here and would stay again if we ever make it back to Maui (hoping we do!)

Cute condo in the Hono Kai resort. The condo was clean and had everything I needed. I ate out for most meals, but the kitchen was nice and new and would be great for anyone who plans to do some cooking. There is a handful of restaurants and the Maui Ocean Center about a half mile down the road. And the Molokini dive I went on left from there Maalaea harbor so I was able to walk there. To have access to more restaurants or a grocery store, you will need a car to drive to Kihei or Waikapu.

Did not have direct beach access from the resort but short walk away. Also not a lot of restaurants nearby nor walking distance so some thing to consider when staying here. Other than that the steam is pleasant and the condo is equipped with everything we needed.

location was great. Close to the harbor for snorkeling charter, close to airport, close to gas, food store souvenirs store, in between east and west Maui, close to south Maui for the best beaches, etc
