This was our first time to Maui with our family of 5 (3 teens). The location was nice, not too far from anywhere we wanted to go. Short drive to Black Rock and other great beaches. There isn’t great beach access for swimming, etc at the condo but only a few steps to sit by the ocean and have coffee in the morning.
The condo itself was pretty nice and updated. It is in an older building so you could definitely hear every footstep from the people above us. Luckily for us the upstairs was vacant most of our stay.
Overall it was a nice place for a reasonable price. Not luxury but well maintained and a good location.

It was close to everything we wanted to do. The place was clean and well laid out. The A/C kept us comfortable. The best part I am not sure can be replicated. We would walk to the end of the property to watch the sunset. Several other couples staying there would meet and talk about what they did that day. It was very enjoyable.

My family and I had a great time in Maui. The VRBO was great and the location was incredible. The only thing that would have made it fantastic is some basic repairs and updates to things around the house. The A/C's were fantastic. We did have to go talk to the neighbors above us because the floors are paper thin and they had two rambunctious toddlers that ran and jumped on the floor from 6AM to 10PM...every day...all day. Overall, a great experience.

We loved staying in this condo! The ocean and pool are both only a few feet away from the back door. Great neighborhood with restaurants and stores close by. We saw whales every morning from the condo overlook. The only concern was that we could hear the people above us everytime they walked. Other than that, the condo was perfect and we would stay here again.

We had a wonderful time in this condo! When we arrived Daniel (the on-site contact) was busting his you-know-what cleaning the condo for us. We did have to wait a bit past our check-in time, but after seeing how thorough of a cleaning job he did, it was well worth it. The condo was stocked with ample dish/serve/cookware and beach + pool supplies.
My 'complaint' as others have referenced was the potential noise from upstairs. With a 7-month-old and two+ year old napping, we're hyper-sensitive on sound and are happy to say noise from upstairs didn't appear to wake up either baby! It seems like the guests upstairs were quiet, but you can hear every footstep rattling from below. I could see how rambunctious kids/group could be troublesome but we felt fortunate with whoever was staying up there. The other complaint would be the pack-n-play in the condo -- it was great to have one but the mattress pad itself felt broken in several areas. I would recommend a replacement p-n-p.
The location is phenomenal. It was the most reasonably priced 2-br in the area, and a short drive into Lahina and our new fave - BABY BEACH! We're frequent Maui travelers, usually in Wailea-Makena and this was our first experience staying in the West. We would LOVE to come back and stay a few days again and would rebook this in a heartbeat!

I stayed at this property for one month and found it to be quite nice. I have stayed on the island before at a large resort and it was too busy. A few things I loved about this place.
1. Parking is right at your doorstep! It’s reserved so no searching for a spot.
2. Everything is close to the unit, the pool, the laundry, the water! Every evening was great for sunsets and whale watching!
3. The kitchen was great, I added a few things to make it more usable for me being there for a month. Very well equipped.
4. Lots of towels and beach towels
5. Great stuff to do close by!
The negatives are minor- yes there is a condo above and can be a bit noisy but I didn’t mind it too much as I was out enjoying the island!
The couch was ok but not comfortable for long movies. The deck box needs to be cleaned out and freshened up.

Pictures in the listing don’t do the place justice. Very spacious. Really convenient to be able to open the patio doors and let the kids run out onto the grass. Easy, clear checkin and check out instructions. Don’t miss the cinnamon buns at Papi’s Ohana!

First I will review the condo itself. Kristina's condo was very nice, clean and well stocked, it had everything we needed during our stay, and the few things we needed changed were remedied quickly. Having two bathrooms was great, both had very nice showers with great water pressure. There was an abundance of sheets and towels which was so appreciated especially travelling with a four year old. The air conditioning worked great in both bedrooms and also the living room, though we found we didn't need it in the living room as it actually stayed quite cool, even during the hottest part of the day. The kitchen is lovely, lots of counter space and nice and big. Kristina and her on site contact Dan were very responsive, always so helpful and a delight to deal with, we really appreciated them. If I could suggest two small things: first, the addition of a regular height dining table, we did eat a few meals outside but it was always dark by the time we sat down for dinner so having a dining table inside would be great. Second, it might be time to replace the twin mattresses, they are feeling a bit springy but they were sufficient and our sleeps weren't bad by any means.
Second the complex itself: Maui Sands, as the description states, is an older and smaller complex in Kaanapali. Not having a million people in your face all the time was great, and we never had to fight for a barbeque. We also enjoyed walking to the ocean in the morning to check out the tides or waves and if it had been a different time of year there is probably a cute little beach, but the swells were high during our stay so we just enjoyed looking at the water from the steos. That said, the grounds could use some updating. The pool area was the biggest disappointment, it doesn't have a shallower area for small children so it's not as useable as it could be, the pool deck is very worn and rough on the feet, and the pool furniture is very old and should be replaced. We were hoping to use the pool on days when the weather wasn't cooperating or we didn't feel like going to the beach, but sadly we only used it one time and weren't interested in returning. Overall the condo was lovely, the complex was sufficient but should be renovated/upgraded soon, and the contacts Kristina and Dan are delightful, I would recommend this unit to others traveling to the area.

We enjoyed our stay very much. We did run across a couple issues. The oven temperature wound not rise above 170 and was not cleaned. There’s a sign by the door to remove shoes but we had to wear them because the floor was very dirty. The cooler was missing out of the bin from outside.

My family of 4 had a fantastic stay here at Maui Sands. It was even better than expected. The condo was beautifully furnished, and the best part was, my kids had their own room along with their own bathroom. Even though the description stated that the beach outside the condo was rocky, it was perfect. While we visited several other beaches, the one right outside our courtyard was my kids' favorite beach to play on. We loved it so much and plan on staying here again the next time we're in Maui!

This is our first trip to Maui so we planned on being at places almost every day. Maui Sands is a perfect stay for us because of its convenient location to access daily necessities yet within a short 5 to 10 minutes drive you will be at the famous Kaanapali beach, the Whaler's Village, and the front street in Lahaina. We like this low-density residential area as this is very quiet environment, and it makes us feel safe staying here with less crowd. The 2-bed and 2-bath condo is very comfortable for us three. It is well maintained. Host Kristina is very responsive in answering my questions and provides us with good information for tourism. The ocean is accessible from the condo with about 30 seconds walk. It is very beautiful sitting by the ocean in the morning or the afternoon. The condo was built in the 60s but it is well managed. The walls are thin, so there could be noises from your neighbors, sometimes.

The walk to see the sunset was less than a minute. Huge kitchen with ice maker in freezer which was awesome!! plenty of towels, blankets, sheets, dishes, pot and pans. Boogie boards, noodles, sand shoes, chairs everything you would need for the beach was available as well. Laundry, pool and BBQ's were close. Only thing I had a hard time with is I couldn't get the AC in the bedroom with the queen bed to run more than 4 hours, I am sure it was operator error. The office does check to see if you display your parking pass (I left on the floor after being out all day) daily . I liked that as they were making sure things were clean, groomed and only the right people were parking there.

This is a beautiful unit at a very reasonable price. Maui Sands is a great location, convenient for shopping and just a few blocks from the “highway” from Lahaina to Kapalua and beyond. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen necessities and condiments. There were two issues that I had because I was short. There was no place that I could sit to eat. There were three tall barstools that I couldn’t sit in and two armchairs and a sofa in the living room. I had to sit in an armchair and put my food on a rectangular, leather ottoman/coffee table to eat. They really need a small table with regular chairs for eating, paperwork, etc. There was an empty space in living room that would have fitted a table and chairs perfectly. The other problem was a lack of places to hang wet bathing suits and towels. You couldn’t hang anything outside on lanai. There were hooks hanging over doors to bathrooms but I couldn’t reach them. They were also a fall hazard because water would drip on tile floor inside and outside bathroom. I would recommend that hooks or bars be installed in shower stalls- much more convenient and safer.

We really enjoyed our stay in Maui at this property. Kristina was very helpful and made sure we had all of the paperwork and info prior to our arrival. She was also very helpful when we asked her about the best beaches to go to. The condo was very clean and stocked with plenty of linens, towels and beach towels if needed.
Everyday, we sat out on the lanai for a while and enjoyed the faint sound of the ocean and the view of the lush green plants that surrounded the lanai. A very short walk from our condo and we were at the ocean where the property had chairs set up to enjoy the view and sounds of the beautiful ocean.
Our flight didn't get in until later in the evening on the day we arrived (Christmas Day) and the grocery store was closed, so it was a pleasant surprise to find some beers and sodas left behind by previous renters in the refrigerator! We in turn, left some alcohol for the next renters. : ) There is an ABC Store a short walk from the condo where we were able to get snacks and a supermarket and strip mall with several restaurants about 2-3 blocks away. It was nice having all of this so close. We decided to be on true vacation and not make any meals so we brought in food several times and there were plenty of dishes and cups.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay in this condo again. Mahalo, Kristina, for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful property. Aloha.

Very difficult to swim as the surf gets high and there are rock ledges in front but a quick trip north or south has excellent beaches.

The property was exactly what we were looking for. I appreciate the immediate responsiveness of the owner as I had misplaced my check in instructions. Parking was great. I appreciated the pack n play provided for my 1.5 year old. The pull out couch was very hard to get out for the 5th adult, but we managed to get it in and out each night with some wiggling. Lots of towels, toiletries, kitchen essentials provided. Really had everything we needed! We loved the location and enjoyed every sunset from the complex and loved walking to the local shops and cafes. Thank you for making our long stay so pleasant.

Condo is beautiful and had everything we needed. AC was nice though the breeze made it less of a requirement than we thought it was going to be for our first trip to Maui. Lots of restaurants, shops, parks, and beaches within walking distance and only a short drive to Kaanapali beach. Beach chairs and boogie boards available. Received immediate response from owner when we had questions. Grounds are maintained well and pretty foliage around the patio area.

Our family enjoyed staying at Maui Sands for our vacation. It is a wonderful location for this side of the island. Walk 30 steps and you are in the ocean. A beach is a short walk to the right. There is food and food trucks within walking distance. A gas station is close by. We felt we were centrally located to a wide variety of beaches and snorkeling. The condo was clean and exactly as described. It was great to have 2 bathrooms and a fully functioning kitchen. Loved sitting on the patio in the morning and hearing the ocean and birds chirping. I appreciated having some spices and left over odds and ends to help cook. Laundry was always available and there were multiple BBQ's. We would definitely stay there on our next trip. We loved our stay. Property was as advertised and the local contact was fantastic helping us out. We enjoyed the location, close by, but not part of all the fancy resorts. We loved being between the pool and oceanfront. We spent a lot of time on the lanai.

The newly remodeled interior was very nice, loved the kitchen, the garden setting was quaint, pool was clean and view of mountains from pool area was beautiful. The entrance to the building is very outdated. The snorkeling here wasn't exciting and we found we drove elsewhere to snorkel.

The first impression was a little rough as th parking area faces a flat wall of windows but once you walk inside and out to the beautiful lanai and the very short walk to the beach, it’s awesome. It is nice though that the parking spot is only 15 feet from the front door.
