My family rented for 4 nights and we were very happy with our stay. The property management were super communicative leading up to check-in, responded to our questions while on site, and made check-out easy. Loved the duplex layout! The entrance to the apartment is on the third floor of a low rise building so you do need to climb a flight of stairs to get to the unit. Everything was clean and there was all the amenities you would expect in the kitchen and bathrooms and laundry room. Pool/hot tub area is small but gets the job done. We saw sunrise from the terrace and just had to go downstairs to the walking path to watch sunset. Very comfortable and spacious!

This was our first trip to Kauai. Location of condo was nice and in a safe area. It is located right on a walking path that takes you to Shipwreck Beach. The path is an easy walk with amazing views. There is some construction going on that you see/hear from the lanai. We were not there during the day much so it didn’t bother us. We had an issue with the TV and the manager responded quickly and even offered to come by several times. Check in check out was easy and had no issues. The beach chairs and umbrellas were great. We didn’t use the snorkel gear or boards but would be great if you were there with kids. There are A/C units in the bedrooms upstairs but not downstairs. The wind blowing through keeps it comfortable but if the doors/windows are closed it can get stuffy. This was a great place and great location.

I can’t say enough about this place! Great location, views and area. Very clean, host was extremely responsive, town is less than 1 min away via car, safe neighborhood, everything you would want/need. The townhouse was very clean, comfy beds and pillows, spacious bathrooms, absolutely excellent. There is a trail right off of the place where you can see some amazing views. This place made our stay!

Great location, well equipped kitchen, comfortable and clean condo. Excellent communication about check-in procedures. My only complaint was that the tennis courts were closed for lanai furniture storage (not sure why furniture was being stored here or why this was the location chosen). When I reached out to the property manager about this and a suggestion for an alternate place to play, I did not receive any response. A disappointment as my family was looking forward to playing some tennis. Also note there is now construction taking place in the adjacent lot, making it a bit noisy during the day which was not an issue for us as we were out and about each day.

We absolutely loved our time in Kauai and a big part of it was because of this beautiful property. It was welcoming and clean and the check in/out process was seamless. The condo was super close to beautiful beaches, shopping and has a lot of great food options. We started our day drinking coffee on the lanai each morning. What a treat! The condo has everything ready to go to the beach which was super helpful. They have a binder with helpful advice and directions to everything that you’ll need from groceries to finding excursions. One thing that we didn’t think to bring was our pickle ball set to play on their courts. We will definitely stay here again! Thank you!

There were signs on all the lanai railings saying “Danger, keep away from railing. Lanai railings are under review for structural integrity.” The pictures of the lanai in this listing do not show this warning sign. It is important to disclose this safety hazard to people before they book so they can make an informed decision. The property management company failed to disclose this to us.
Directly adjacent to this property is a new luxury housing development being built. In the pictures of this listing there are pictures of the ocean view as can be seen from the lanai. The large grassy area in these pictures has been divided into 10 ocean front lots. At the time of our stay, two houses were being built and three more lots were being prepared for houses to be put on them. Not only was our ocean view obstructed by this, but we were woken up by construction noise at 6:45 – 7:00am every day (except on the weekend). By the time these houses are finished being built, the view of the ocean will be mostly blocked by the houses.
While we know the property owner/ management company has no control over what happens on an adjacent property, they do have control over disclosing the noise, dust, and inconvenience of loud construction going on next door. Additionally, the property owner / management company needs to accurately portray what the view from the lanai looks like now that construction is obstructing it.
The property management company was hard to get ahold of and unresponsive.

The condo is very comfortable and included all of the amenities for a very pleasant stay. We enjoyed whale watching each day from the lanai and walks along the nearby paved path directly to either Shipwreck or Poipu Beach. Clear and regular communications with the property manager made check-in and check-out very efficient.

Fivn Stars to the property manager Evelyn. VERY responsive. Had a TV problem..repalced it the same day. Had issues with the washing machine...offered to have our laundry done...wow.
While the unit was nice, needed quite a bit of updating. also, should probably mention in the listing summery that both bedrooms are on the second floor of the unit.

The location is awesome but that’s were the awesome ends. While generally clean the condo is in major need of an update top to bottom. One note- the slatted bathroom doors are filthy and gross and dirty pans in cupboards gave us pause. The coolers were nice but some maintenance needs to be done as the install is falling apart and letting warm humid air in. Also at the very least please get some new pillows.

Amazing view. We saw lots of whales just sitting on the lanai. We enjoyed using all the beach toys, chairs, snorkel gear that is in the room. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Washer and dryer great with kids. Pool/hot tub and bbq area were really nice. Loved using the walking path right next to the unit. The only thing I could mention is you do have to use stairs to get up to unit which was not a problem for us, but I don’t remember seeing that in the details.

Good location, able to walk to beaches. Unit was clean with a well stocked pantry, kitchen, and beach items. AC only in the bedrooms but with the patio door open it wasnt too hot on the main floor. Cleaning staff showed up a bit early on our checkout day so last minute packing and leaving the unit was a little awkward. Overall, would stay again!

My family of 4 generations enjoyed our 8 day stay in our condo. We cooked meals in the well equipped kitchen and used the beach equipment. We enjoyed the pool facility. The cool breezes through the front and lanai doors were welcomed each day. And the morning sunrises and moon rises were beautiful…we would return to this condo in a heartbeat!

Great walking paths right by as well as easy walk to Brenekees beach to watch the turtles!

We had a much too short visit to Kauai but really enjoyed this area. It was within easy walking distance to both Shipwreck Beach and Poipu beach. The beds were very comfortable and the A/C in the bedrooms was a nice perk. It definitely isn’t needed downstairs as you have a really nice breeze coming through. Very good communication with the property manager if any concerns came up and the treats left in the condo at checkin were a welcome surprise after a full travel day.

This place is just as we expected. The property is in a perfect location near Poipu Beach. There is a fantastic walking/hiking trail that starts next to the property. The condo is well stocked. The views are amazing!!We all enjoyed our week and will definitely return!

We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and breezy. Really nice cross flow breeze from the ocean. We could hear the ocean crashing onto the rocky shores nearby. While the beach is walkable, we drove to the beach. The view was nice and made for very bright mornings since the sun reflected off the ocean. We had basic amenities which were enough for us. Our management contact was always available and very friendly. She gave us ideas for food and places to visit. The information was also available in the welcome folder available for us to read. It was a pleasant, but all too short of a visit to Kauai.

Had a wonderful stay at the condo! The view from the balcony was fantastic with beautiful sunrises and the waves crashing on the rocky coast. Most of our time in the condo was spent there..:) It was clean, well stocked and thoughtfully set up for guests. Checkin and out was very easy. Access to walk along the coast was right outside the condo complex. Definitely a perfect place for a family of 4. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Booked this place for the ocean view, and that part did not disappoint. Hanging on the porch every morning for my sunrise coffee was great.
On the top floor so no noise coming from anyone above, but requires walking up one flight of stairs so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues.
You’ll probably want to drive to the beach or restaurants but it’s possible to walk.
Overall very nice and felt quiet and secluded. Would stay again!

Our family of 5 had a wonderful time here. The location is perfect with the best beaches close by. We saw the most wildlife on this side of the island, including: spinner dolphins, sea turtles, monk seals, and sea lions.

Well kept property- nicely stocked. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was ideal. Decor and furniture were beautiful. I nice home away from home experience. We were able to see beautiful sunsets and sunrises from the lanai. The location was perfect to walk along the lava cliffs and see the crashing waves and majestic ocean spray. A special treat was the sea turtles visible in the coves along the hiking trail from the condo to the Grand Hyatt.

This property is lovely - quiet location, right on the ocean with a great view. The unit was very well stocked and equipped for a beach stay - towels, chairs, tent. The kitchen was also well equipped - loved the electric tea kettle (and left some tea bags for the next user). You will have to drive to restaurants *unless you want to eat at the Hyatt*. If we were going to stay longer, we would have cooked a few meals. Long walks on the beach are very doable!

On the third floor with a wide open view of the ocean, cliffs, mountains and ship wreak beach. The pool and hot tub are much nicer in person, their fully tiled with 1" mosaics. We stayed with a family of six, kids took the air mattress, grandparents took the twins and we took the matter. The air mattress fits nicely next to the twins. Communication with management of the property and ground staff was great too. Two thumbs up.

This was a great place to stay! Nice to have quiet bedrooms upstairs and private bathrooms with each bedroom. The ocean view was lovely and we could see the sunrise! My only negative was the towels. They left brown fuzz all over us after showering. We thought they must be new so washed all right away but they still left fuzz. Small issue. The space was awesome. It was just me and my three kids since my husband could not travel. Internet was great so I could work a bit. We were grateful for the beach toys as well since proximity to Poipu beach was awesome!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo unit at Makahuena. It was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay including beach chairs, beach towels and coolers for the times we toured the island beaches. The kitchen was perfect for preparing meals when we stayed in and even had a nice set of grill tools to use. It's a small walk across the parking lot to the grill area but there are also 3 large well maintained Weber Gas Grills there that we utilized several times. We ate breakfast every day on the lanai and often saw whales spouting in the distance (don't forget to bring binoculars!). We didn't miss air conditioning at all since most nights there were good trade winds that kept the room cool along with the ceiling fan. There is also a floor fan if you need it but we didn't use it. The furnishings and the beds were very comfortable and our son said the same about the bed in the 2nd bedroom. It was wonderful that each bedroom had its own private bathroom. The laundry area is in the downstairs half bath and was much appreciated! This is our favorite part of the island to stay as we could hike, watch whales and turtles and go for a dip in the ocean all within walking distance. Not to mention going out to the cliffs to see spectacular sunrises and sunsets! The Makahuena also has a small pool with beach chairs if you just want to relax by the pool.
Evelyn was very easy to work with and quickly responded when we arrived and had trouble unlocking the door. Once we learned the "trick", we were good. We didn't encounter any other issues in the condo throughout the stay.
All in all we loved spending our vacation in this unit and would highly recommend it to others.
