Beautiful location off smaller beach, fun to watch surfers and visitors every morning. Smaller set up inside condo but perfect for a couple. Bed was comfortable but windows above bed had lights that were pretty bright at night. We ended up not having toilet paper or paper towels stoked so had to grab ourselves from the store. Close walking distance to several shopping area’s and restaurants. Overall we had a good stay.

The Honl’s Beach next door was a real plus! You can see it from the lanai and they had “drop in” yoga there every morning at 8 am. Kathy has beach chairs for your use. The pool and hot tub were great also as I did my laps every day. Being able to walk around Kailua Kona was a plus for shopping and eating and I would definitely recommend Lava-Java and the historic Kona Inn for dinner! Kathy was very accommodating and easy to communicate with!

This unit overlooks a small but very popular beach, great to sip coffee in the morning and watch body boarders and surfers, people watch, then since is just on the south end of Kialua-Kona easy to walk all over town and hit restaurants, water activities. One afternoon we watched a pod of spinner dolphins for about 15 minutes. The sunsets were great and sometimes you can see the “green flash” that occurs in tropical areas just as the sun goes down. The owner responded within a couple of minutes to our few questions. The unit here has the best view with beach access of any place in Kialua-Kona. Other larger hotels look down on rocky surf but no good way to dip your toes in the ocean.

We had an amazing stay at Kathy’s place in Kona Reef. The house is well taken care of and extremely well equipped - the beach equipment was our particular fave.
The location is absolutely perfect and we spent many hours just sitting on the balcony watching whales jump in the ocean.
Kathy was an extremely responsive and accommodating host. I’d recommend anyone book this place and we’ll definitely be back!

Pros:
Kathy’s property is well represented in her listing. The place was very clean and nicely maintained. We were very comfortable here. Kathy is very responsive and always willing to go the extra mile for your requests. The pool area is clean and comfortable with a nice view. You have the choice of sitting in the pool area or out front on the oceanfront. A lot of good conversations were had there. It’s an easy wall to the downtown
Cons:
The street noise can be heard from the unit. The walkway is right behind the bedroom and can be disturbing, although most of the guests were fairly quiet it could be a problem if you have disrespectful renters.

This was a great unit to stay in. Literally, everything is provided. Shampoo and conditioner, body wash, bathroom spray, fridge condiments, chairs for the beach, etc. It wasn't missing a thing. The unit is exactly as shown. If you're into yoga, you can go down to the beach for an 8 am yoga class.The bed was even very comfy. Sunsets from the beach or pool area were beautiful. The pool area/hot tub were great. Many chairs available for sitting by the pool. The grill area was very nice although we did not use it. The unit is close enough to walk to some restaurants. If you are in good health, you could walk all the way to the shopping district. The biggest downfall is parking for shopping. The pay lots are expensive and trying to find free parking is not easy. Some restaurants that we enjoyed were LaVerne's, J's Fish and Grill and Quinn's Almost by the Sea. We did not have a good experience at Fish Hopper. There are stairs to get to this unit. If you take the elevator up, then you go down a small flight to get to the unit. That's the only disadvantage of it. The owner is great. We chatted many times before our stay. She was very helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to the Big Island. Thanks Kathy for a great stay!

The owner has done a great job of decorating the condo and lots of amenities like beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. While a few drawbacks like no A/C in bedroom (we were fine with fan but imagine it is very hot in summer) and some difficulty with small and limited parking slots, overall a great place and great value.

One of the best rentals ever! Saw humpback whales from our deck. Chairs along ocean to watch sunset. Place was super clean, bed was comfortable, and kitchen and bath were well-stocked. Walking distance to Kona restaurants. Convenient to many beaches and attractions. Would definitely stay here again if I come back to the Big Island.

The beach front view is beautiful. Food and shopping all within walking distance. Central location for day excursions. Well appointed kitchen and laundry. We especially appreciated the laundry being in the condo. Highly recommend and will come back!

There was an unusually large storm while we stayed at this condo. The power went out for around five hours. The stove is electric so we couldn’t cook and we couldn’t see in the dark. There were two old candles sitting on a table but we had no lighter or matches. The office was closed. Many of us in the condos went to Safeway to buy a lighter. We got back and couldn’t light the old candles. Too much dust on the wick. We bought more candles and used them to see. Quite an adventure.
There wasn’t any dishwasher detergent to run it. It’s the little things that you want to follow the directions at the end of our stay but really couldn’t follow because of supplies. I tried to call the cleaning people when we left, as per direction by the door. It was a number no longer in service.
Otherwise we enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately the storm lasted two days. Weather happens.

This was an incredible location to utilize as a home base to stay in Kailua Kona. Very easy walk to Huggos and Huggos on the Rocks and an easy walk to all the shops and other restaurants. The pool and hot tub and ocean view were very nice from the common areas and the private balcony overlooking the public beach was great to drink coffee or have late night drink. Everything works here and the owner is extremely accessible and easy to work with. Would definitely stay again.

Online photos don't do the view justice. This one bedroom condo was very clean, well maintained and has comfortable furniture and bedding. Well equipped kitchen, bathroom, washer and dryer. Very reasonable check in and out procedures. The air conditioner works well and cools the entire place quickly so no need to leave on full time, only as needed. Despite 80+ degree heat, we hardly used the A/C. From the balcony with 2 rocking chairs and a high top table and 4 chairs we enjoyed people watching at the public beach next door. From pool towels to laundry detergent to beach chairs and boogie boards the condo lacks nothing. If you have issues with stairs, even with the elevator there are about 5 steps up/down to reach the condo.
Watching the sunset was easy from the lawn right on the ocean near the swimming pool. While the property is older, it's very well maintained. We will be back!

Very nice updated condo in a perfect location for Kona shore-side area. Good and plentiful parking. Short drive into town. You'll have a nice view of surfers sitting on the lanai with coffee in the morning or adult beverage in the afternoon. Pool area very nice, and great sunset views from there! Host was very responsive to questions and a minor glitch with a fan. Note that parking is expensive in Kona at the pay lots - as much as $15/hr. There are two free lots across from Kai's Restaurant - ask them for more info.

We booked very last minute + thought all the good places would be gone. We were wrong! The best little gem had the exact 3 days we needed + it was meant to be! I wanted location on a beach and ocean view. This property has both, as advertised. Having breakfast on the balcony was a wonderful experience.
On the downside, the bedroom has small inoperable windows, high up by the ceilimg. Since the only air conditioner is in the living room, the small bedroom with a ceiling fan became warm and stuffy on the hot days we were there. The furnishings need updating.
The owner responds to emails promptly.

We really enjoyed staying in this unit. It was every bit as good as the description here on vrbo.com. The location is perfect, central to the various Kona activities we did and within easy walking distance to all the stores and restaurants on the upper section of Ali'i drive.
The Kona Reef is a very nice owner-occupied condominium complex right on the main strip in Kona. You might expect it to be noisy but we never noticed anything but the sound of the ocean. The design of the lanai is angled i.e. has you looking squarely at the beach and it channels the sound of the waves right into the unit. Although being out on the lanai is best, the conveniently located mirror panels on several walls mean you are never far from a gorgeeous ocean view, even while preparing a meal in the kitchen. This owner has the unit decorated in a very nice tropical theme and set up with everything you could need while visiting the Kona Coast even including an in-unit washer & dryer which was very convenient for us.
Downstairs the pool & spa area was great, very clean and the maintenance crew was regularly checking to make sure everything was functioning properly. Alongside the pool area was one of the best outdoor cooking facilities I've ever used. Four giant stainless BBQs meant there was never any waiting to find cook space, in fact the place could host a large party with ease.
From here we based several day trips - visiting the gorgeous beaches of Kehaka Kai State Park, the hillside coffee plantations above Kona, had an absolutely perfect day of kayaking and snorkeling at both Kealakekua and Honaunau bays near Captain Cook and a went for a lengthy road trip up through the Kohala mountains with a hike down into Polulu valley and the return trip via Hapuna and Anaehoomalu Beaches along the North Kohala coast.
We hope to return to Kona for another visit as soon as we can, maybe bringing our grown children next time and I would look forward to coming back to this unit if we could arrange it. The owner is very helpful with lots of friendly communication and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

Two friends and I went for a girls getaway (all in our 20s) we loved the fact the condo had a very central location and was within walking distance to the shops and restaurants. The condo itself looks out over a little sandy beach which you can swim in. Everything that we could possibly need was provided and we had nothing to worry about except having a good time!

This condo was everything it was advertised to be. A wonderful, quiet location, with an easy walk to shops and restaurants. The view of the surfing beach provides entertainment all day long. We met many of the on-site owners who were very hospitable - sharing beach equipment, food and information. The condo itself was very clean, and had everything we needed, and then some. The pool and bbq area, which look out over the ocean were ideal. We would highly recommend a holiday here!

This Kona Reef condo was beautifully decorated and in the best location in Kona. We saw inside many other units and this was one of the most nicely appointed. It was worth every penny and more. Don't hesitate to stay!
