My husband and I have been visiting the volcano for decades. This was the most comfortable stay we have ever had. The lights were on to welcome us since we arrived near sunset. The house is warm, roomy, and quiet. We had a problem with the TV the first night, and Danielle was there in five minutes. She is never more than a text away. The ONLY improvement we could possibly make would be to have a cooler for day trips. This is how all rental units should be.

Close to the national park, quiet neighborhood, clean cozy house! Highly recommended. The guest bedroom without curtains might bother those not early birds type travelers.

It was as advertised. Clean and ready for us. Very convenient to the Volcano National Park. The only thing that I could suggest is that the blinds be put back up in the second bedroom. The morning light is blinding at 6:30am.

Danielle was great! We arrived at night, so she turned some lights on for us. The rooms were good, everything very clean, directions clear. We brought coffee basket liners, but everything else was provided. Decor is simple but comfortable and pleasantly Hawaiian. Danielle was very responsive when we had a question, and met us as we were checking out, so she could meet the repair person for the dryer (which only ran on hot). The only missing item was a toaster, but it wasn’t listed, and I should have noted that. No A/C, but nights cool down a lot so not an issue. I’ll stay at any of the cottages that Danielle manages; she’s a gem!

We spent 3 nights at the Ama'u Lani cottage. Great location! Secluded yet easy to find, and just a few short miles to Volcano National Park entrance. We bought groceries in Kona at the Safeway for the 3 days, as there are only a few markets in the village with limited choices. The cottage was clean and had almost everything one would need, sans a colander to drain our pasta. We enjoyed breakfast outside to the sound of the singing birds, and also loved listening to the frogs sing at night. It was a very serene location. Danielle was very accessible and great to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience!

Booked in good faith for 2 people noting the owner charges a cleaning fee. When we had settled in we noticed many things were grubby (pics have been sent to VRBO as proof for escalation) and messaged the owner before just posting a negative review, the written rude replies (verified by VRBO) we got back were unbelievable telling us we just had too high standards l! Then at midnight as we were sleeping the owner cancelled the reservation and claimed we breached house rules and had more than 2 of us in the property. Should be noted they’ve yet to provide proof or us or VRBO to substantiate their claim, and won’t be able to as it’s a lie! This left a very bad taste and tarred our stay in Volcano, we had such an awful experience and ended up checking out before 8am to avoid any potential conflict. Look carefully at the reviews as many give a high rating just on location . We acknowledge the property is in a reasonable location for the National Park but it feels like it’s just rented out and then just surfaced cleaned each time. The property definitely needs some TLC and the grime and dust removed. Especially if an extra fee is being asked. Totally regret letting this owner be involved in our vacation and they maybe should learn some customer service in how to react to feedback more professionally. Please be warned and VRBO are now investigating

Charming cottage surrounded by giant ferns - quiet, peaceful, private. Felt instantly like home. And just 5 min away from the Volcanoes Park entrance. We could plan morning trips, home for lunch and another trip in the afternoon. And did we mention that Danielle is a gracious host..

This location was very convenient ( literally minutes away ) for visiting Volcanoes National Park. The house was tastefully furnished, clean and provided a well equipped kitchen. There is a gas fireplace that quickly warmed up the space in a few minutes. The beds were very comfortable. Danielle, the owner is easy to contact and provided answers to my inquiries very quickly. I would recommend staying here to anyone who is considering.

Great location for activities connected to the Volcano National Park. We were there in the peak of rainy season so it rained alllllll the time but we still enjoyed it. The fireplace/heater was perfect after a long day of site seeing in the rain. Danielle was great and responsive to any needs we had.

What a perfect little cottage in the middle of the rain forest. It made our visit to the park so easy…..spent the day in the park, went home and ate dinner, the went back to view the volcano glowing in the dark! Thank you for sharing your home!

3 of us stayed overnight & enjoyed the cottage, its ambiance, amenities, etc. It was roomy, had coffee, filters, even cream! We found the decor enchanting, & there was a large yard we didn't have time to avail ourselves of. Many thanks for thinking of everything!

The house was tucked in a quiet neighborhood very conveniently located near Volcano National Park. Because we were so close we were able to go to the Park at a less crowded time to watch the volcano erupting. The home is cozy, clean, and comfortable. It gets chilly at night in the winter, but the gas fireplace is adequate for warming the house and there are plenty of blankets. We had all the amenities we needed for a great 2 night stay. Make note that the restaurants open later in the evening are about a 30 minute drive, so bring some food if you want to eat after 4pm and don't want to drive. The host, Danielle, is very responsive to any inquiry. She even called the day of check in to make sure I had directions and information on how to access the home which I appreciated. I would definitely stay at this property again! Thanks Danielle!

This is the perfect cottage to serve as base camp for seeing Kilauea and even parts north (Hilo, Mauna Kea, etc). We stayed 3 nights. The first morning we meditated on the edge of the crater. Pele responded with a beautiful show of creation later that day. Mahalo.

Short drive to Volcano park, spacious for our party of 3 adults. Very clean and easy communication and check in. 2 things I wish are there's more channel for TV and a window covering on the 2nd bedroom.

The house felt like I was staying at a family member’s home. Everything was cozy and comfortable. The property is in a quiet neighborhood that made for a relaxing stay. Of course, the proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes NP is a major selling point. We wish that we would have stayed here longer to enjoy the house and more time at the NP.

December 2022
Fabulous location tucked away in a very private setting in Volcano town. Perfect for visiting the National Park, which is just minutes away. Key code entry was very convenient as we arrived later than expected. We were surprised by the total absence of any window coverings in the second bedroom but we’re able to improvise with blankets. Use of the dryer would have been useful as we arrived back on our second night soaked to the skin and with no way to dry anything, had to pack up half a suitcase of still very damp clothing the following morning.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ama'u Lani cottage. It was well appointed and comfortable. We had everything we needed. Note there is no dishwasher. And the TV is small, but it wasnt a big deal for us since we were out most of the day anyway. The fireplace didn't work, but it wasn't cold enough anyway. The owner let us know about this in advance. Beds were comfortable, location was private, has its own water supply, clothes washer and dryer worked well. Check in was easy and there's a keypad code for the door. The owner was easy to contact, friendly, and very helpful. If you're here to see the volcano, note the Jaggar museum has been closed for 4 years. That surprised us since it's a real highlight. With limited restaurants nearby, note the presence of the simple cafe in the bowling alley on the Kilauea Military base nearby. It might be a welcome option after about 8pm. We enjoyed it for breakfast. Lots of entertainment like a theater, air hockey, billiards, and arcade as well. Overall, i would highly recommend this place.

Clean, easy contactless check-in, owner responsive, quiet neighborhood, close to hvnp, convenient to visit hvnp at night. Be aware that if you stay in this house for less than three nights, the washer and dryer will not be available for you to use (we stayed there for two nights. The owner did not allow us to use the washer and dryer. This should be stated in online listing).

Came to Volcano to relax and recharge. This little cottage did the trick. Spent half of my time relaxing and the other half site seeing. Visited Pahoa's beautiful farmers market, hiked Volcano National Forest, watched to hot live lava flow, wine tasting at Volcano Winery, shopped and dined in Hilo, picked up fresh donuts and the most southern doughnut shop in the US, spent a day at black sand beach and barbecued and finally hiked to the beautiful AKA AkA Falls. So picturesque. I had a wonderful time and will definitely return.

The cottage is well-situated by Volcano National Park and has been decorated with care. We hiked through the amazing National Park and returned each evening for dinner. We like to cook and appreciated the wide selection of spices on hand in the kitchen.

The cottage was a perfect refuge from the storm! We’ve stayed in Volcanoes several times and this was the cleanest and most well appointed unit of all. We really enjoyed the cottage and liked watching the pheasants as we did the dishes. Danielle responded to questions we had about the house very quickly. We thought the low water pressure was just an idiosyncrasy of the house. Only when we had trouble with the wash did we call Danielle. She responded immediately and offered solutions.
