The cottage is a wonderful place to stay, very clean, and the kitchen and bathrooms stocked with supplies. For the entire 8 days we stayed we didn't see or hear a neighbor once with the few acres of tropical land surrounding the property. The property owner/manager was also very easy to get into contact with and very helpful. It was a lovely getaway and we hope to return to it in the future!

This place is lovely, with comfortable bedrooms, a spacious bath and a fully equipped kitchen. Wonderful to sit on the front porch or back deck in the cool mountain evenings and mornings. Very secluded yet close to volcano village and the national park. Would recommend to anyone visiting the southern part of the big island.

Cute place; it had 2 bedrooms but it was just my wife and I. Nice little backdeck in a rainforest hideaway. Perfect for access to Volcano National Park.

Remarkable stay for a number of reasons. First, charming cottage house, gorgeous wood work and flooring. Second, property is gorgeous and private, with comfortable beds, located amongst the ferns and the forest. The wood burning stove adds to the authenticity and charm while adding warmth to your stay. All located around the corner from the Village and just down the street from the Volcanoes National Park and the Kilauea Caldera, the Volcano House Inn & Restaurant. Could not have been more pleased.

This property is set back from the main road and therefore is very quiet. Lush rainforest surrounds the cottage. Lovely place to stay and so close to stores, gas station, restaurants and the Volcanoes National Park.

Awesome property. It had everything you needed and nothing more. It was a peaceful refuge after a long day of exploring. The location makes you feel more connected to the area, but still maintains a level of seclusion that makes you feel as if you're alone from the rest of world. A great place to experience what living on The Big Island could be like.

Loved being off the beaten path a bit. Was just right for some respite as a family and was close enough to all the things we wanted to do in volcano national park. Can’t wait to come back and we’ve already recommended to friends.

We stayed here for three nights as we explored Volcanoes National Park. Location is perfect, tucked into the forest for privacy but close to town and the park entrance. Cottage was immaculate and such a nice place to return to after a day hiking in the park.

This is such a cute and comfy cottage. The online pictures can't do the beautiful surroundings justice. Fern palms, o'hia, moss, antherium, orchids. The cottage was filled with lovely bouquets, too. Plots of sweet bird song in the morning on the lanai. A storm threatening a power outage approached and our property manager was very good about getting us extra flashlight's and batteries! Luckily no power outage but it was great to be prepared.

Our first time in Volcano, we stayed two nights at this cottage and would totally recommend it. It's a delight. Totally in the woods, you don't see a single house around you when you're inside. The bedroom has three windows, out of which all you see are woods. Loved that. If you like birds, bring binoculars - but you probably have them in any case. The kitchen was fine. Cabin was nicely decorated and supplied. It was a little cold at times (compared to the rest of the island) but we didn't need to build a fire. The towel warmer was kind of weird, but kind of cool. There were some things nearby to walk to. Mahalo!

This cabin never disappoints. I am a repeat guest. Marti is so responsive and friendly and Kahea leaves flowers for us. And the owners continue to add on cool spaces and thoughtful upgrades. My only suggestion would be to put in a decent sized smart tv in the living room so us news/movies junkies can get our fix in our downtime with ease.

We loved all the small touches in the house that made us feel welcome (fresh flowers, well equipped kitchen). The views from the many big windows right into out own private fern tree forest were something to behold. The heaters were useful, even in the middle of July. We felt very much at home in this house and would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit this region.

We loved staying here. It was very close to Volcanoes National Park and had an awesome fern tree forest in the yard. The property manager was also very nice and came out right away to help us when we ran into a small problem with the propane stove. We loved how secluded it felt, even though it was just a few minutes away from the National Park.

A few suggestions: * Provide kindling and logs that fit the fireplace. * We missed paper towels and Kleenex and a second roll of toilet paper. * Suggest bringing a flashlight in order to use the combination lock---or provide a motion sensor light * The thermostat in the corner bedroom seemed not to be working...New batteries? * Some instruction for the floor heaters would be helpful. * Non slip mat for the bathtub and/or grab bars would be helpful---particularly for seniors. * Loved the towel warmer on the wall.

We were delighted and surprised by How perfect the place was. The images online to not do it justice. Kitchen every amenity needed, mattresses delicious. Cleanliness five star. Two old friends exploring the park delighted to come back here every evening for dinner and laughter and making nice meals. hard to imagine not returning. And that showerhead, wow!

Great place! We enjoyed the remote setting, quiet and surrounded by rainforest. It had everything that we needed. We could see exotic blossoms and plants out of every window! We were close enough (just a few miles) to the volcano to go each night to see the glow of the lava lake! Awesome!

I think I uttered "magical" 20 times while staying there for two days. The love and care for this home and attention to detail was spot-on and you felt it in every way. It was the most relaxing experience. Simple, clean, and well thought out with everything you need and gorgeous grounds. We felt like we were in a fern forest with Ohia, Hapuu and native birds everywhere, quiet, private. Simply magical. We will definitely be back.

First impression was how clean and welcoming the house was. The bed (only used master) was very comfortable. We didn't use the tv or the numerous DVDs and games but it was nice that they were available. The cottage was just what we hoped for.

We loved our very quiet stay at this lovely little cottage. Everything you need for a cozy respite is there. We didn’t cook too extensively, but had what we needed. Note that one mattress is Very soft.

November 2021
This cottage felt so remote and we did feel like we were in the middle of a jungle, but it was actually just off the highway. The grounds were so lush and we loved the flowers and foliage. The cottage itself was adorable and very comfortable for the 3 of us. The heated towel bars in the bathroom and one bedroom kept the stinky towel smell away. We were surprised that the dehumidifier filled up so fast. We emptied 1+ gallons twice a day. Definitely in the rainforest! The proximity to Volcanoes National Park was great, just a 3 mile drive to the entrance. We went to see the erupting Halema’uma’u crater during the day and again at night, so amazing! It was a 1 mile easy hike one way. We also hiked into Kilauea Iki and across the lava lake. So much to see and do, we were busy for the 3 days we were there.

November 2021
Property description accurate, but beds were too soft and quite uncomfortable. The first 24 hours we had no hot water which was no picnic! No showers and no washing dishes! The property manager did make sure it was fixed by our second day there. This would be a tough place to go with young children who are used to some TV. We managed, but didn't hear the news except in our rental car. The yard was beautiful, though and we were close to the park. For any substantial grocery shopping you need to drive about 20 minutes to another town just outside of Hilo. Restaurants are few in number.

If you are planning to see volcano, experience amazing views then stay near the Volcano. This cottage near Volcano is Ana amazing place to stay just 5 minutes from Hawaii volcano national park. It is nice cottage with almost all the facilities- heaters, hot water, kitchen, wifi, washer dryer. My family loved the stay.

August 2021
The location of this property is perfect. We spent two days exploring the volcano and one in Hilo. The cottage is kept very clean. There is a dehumidifier running that had to be emptied twice a day. That didn’t bother us but we would have liked to have a note telling us about it. It stopped running because it was full. When we can came home the second night the beds were damp. There is no cable tv. They have a ton of dvds to watch but nothing kid friendly. I would recommend this place to small families who want to explore volcano.

From booking the stay to pre arrival to the actual stay, great communication, well appointed cabin to stay warm and comfy. Plus a kitchen stocked with everything needed to cook dinner and lunch while there. It’s in a great location with dine in and curbside pick up options and ease visiting the Volcano National Park. We enjoyed a lovely stay and will return.

We have been coming to Volcano for years, and this is the best cottage we've found. It is comfortable and in a very peaceful setting. Although it is near the main road, it's set back and very quiet. We loved waking up to views of the rain forest from our bed. The kitchen was well equipped, and there is a collection of puzzles, games, DVDs, and books for your entertainment if it's too rainy to spend all day outside. From now on, this will be our first choice in Volcano.

March 2020
Kaluhe cottage is a wonderful cottage for a small family or two couples wishing to stay right by the Volcano National Park. We stayed there with our young daughter who likened the fern forest setting to a "magical fairy garden". It truly is a magical setting and the cottage itself has all the comforts needed. We loved the ability to cook in the immaculate and organized kitchen, enjoy the song birds from the covered front porch, and wake to a view of fern and ohia trees from large windows on three sides of the master bedroom. The beds were comfortable and a wood stove kept the cottage toasty warm on cool evenings. The location is right in Volcano Village which is very convenient for restaurants or the park, but because it is set back off a private drive, you don't feel like you haven any neighbors at all. Our only wish was to stay longer. We'll definitely be back!

The cottage is even more charming in reality. It has everything my husband and I needed. The location is beautiful and a very short drive to the park. A bit chilly at night but once we got a good fire going the cottage became very cozy.

January 2020
This is a very attractive property, private and quiet with most everything needed for a pleasant stay. The only thing missing was a cork screw to open our wine but that was easily corrected with a trip to the general store. We left it for the benefit of the next guests . It does get a bit chilly and building a fire in the wood stove is challenging even for a someone like myself who does so daily at home, but it works well. There is an electric heater that can do a good enough job of taking the chill off. Indoor temperatures without heat is between 60-66 F at least during our stay. A very beautiful 2 bedroom home. Recommenced!
