Kanai A Nalu Condo

Most people picture in their minds their “Dream” vacation, on a beach with spectacular views, magnificent sunrises and romantic sunsets. I think my 1,050 sq. ft. Maalaea condo, unit #117, and Kanai A Nalu could fulfill that dream. I've been an owner since 2005. It is my only condo, my Maui vacation home, that I love to share with my guests.
Kanai A Nalu is rated as one of the best properties in Maalaea. With over two acres of tropical grounds, on a quiet a cul-de-sac. There are stainless steel BBQ's, a solar heated pool, beach side shower & a pool-side eating area. The other seven complexes down the street (towards the harbor) are on a reef. Two are next to the busy Maalaea Harbor, with the sound of boat engines & exhaust fumes. Many have distant parking lots where you have to carry your bags a long way. Many do not have air, & half have coin $$ operated laundry rooms. That can be a pain if you have to do laundry a few times. Our unit has its own digital Washer & Dryer, is only steps from a free parking spot & the heated pool. Being a convenient, ground floor unit, you don't have to carry luggage upstairs or to the back of the complex for the elevators.
Our description is long. It takes a few minutes to read, but I think you'll find it's worth it, to help you with your decision. A Maui vacation is a big expense. I describe all the amenities and benefits of our 2-bed, 2-bath condo and our complex. Our corner unit has a double lanai. It is one of the largest in the complex. It extends beyond the norm, offering guests amazing 180-degree views of Maui's entire south coast. A prior owner in a wheelchair was allowed to make the oversized lanai. It's level with the lawn, so he could roll right out, overlooking the shore. Being ground floor makes it good for seniors & small children. The condo is wheelchair accessible, with wide doorways & a roll-in shower, but not ADA compliant.
Our oversized lanai has 2 tables (1 large, 1 small), and 6-8 chairs (dining and comfortable Adirondacks) for our guests. With only 3 or 4 guests, they can spread out. You can see in the aerial photo of the complex, the other lanais only seat 4 and are "set-back" and enclosed by side walls.
When you walk in and see the view of the ocean, you will be delighted. Outside, the spectacular views will take your breath away. Every morning, watch the sun come up over Haleakala and enjoy the sea turtles popping up in the waves. From Jan - April, see whales out in Maalaea Bay from the lanai. It's an amazing experience you'll never forget.
IN 2021, WE INSTALLED REMOTE CONTROLLED, CENTRAL AIR. It's in the living room/dining area, main bedroom and 2nd bedroom. Each room can be adjusted separately. In summer Maui gets into the 90's, with the humidity at 80%. CENTRAL A/C is a MUST. A few condos have no air, and many only have a small unit in the living room on a 2 or 4-hour timer. Every couple of hours you have to turn it back on. Their main bedroom is warm. Their back bedroom can become hot, even with fans.
In December of 2021 we purchased a state-of-the-art digital washing machine (takes pods, liquid or powder). In 2022 we updated the condo again adding "wood look" porcelain tile floors in the living room, dining room and the main bedroom. We ran out of time before guests were to check in, so the 2nd bedroom has the Ocean Blue carpeting (still in excellent condition). We also purchased a 72 oz. Ninja blender, a "Dual" coffee maker (K-cups & grounds), and new silverware. We purchased cute utensils and dishes for toddlers, a new stroller, new games (for adults & kids), new towels for the main bathroom, 2 new wall mounted hair dryers, a new hand held, shower head in 2nd bathroom, a new vacuum, and a new pump & digital remotes for the Sleep Number's King (making it more responsive). We've worked hard to try and provide, whatever you might need, for a memorable vacation.
My condo also has 6 ceiling fans, 3 cable TV's (guests in any room should be able to watch TV), TV's have Movie channels for free and pay to rent, 3 DVD players, 2 Blu-ray players, fast, secure Wi-Fi, movies, games, books, a printer, boogie boards, fins, ice chests, beach towels, sand chairs, a safe, dual coffee maker, an iron & ironing board & a vacuum. There are updated appliances, a digital washer and a dryer, dishwasher, microwave, glass top electric stove, side-by-side fridge with ice maker & filtered water. We also have a toaster, toaster oven, dishes, pots, pans, wine glasses, plus accessories for cooking and more.
FOR CHILDREN WE HAVE: A new stroller, 3/4 size crib (with a mattress and sheets), a high-chair, a booster seat, eating utensils & dishes for toddlers, a Pac n Play, baby gate, sand toys, blocks, coloring books/crayons and puzzles. I have 7 grandchildren, so little ones are welcome.
Our condo has a "relaxed" island feel. We have comfortable bamboo and rattan furnishings. Many guests & their children rent our condo. We work hard to keep it maintained and updated. Our furniture is very nice, but not new. Our Corner unit is not like the interior condos that are sandwiched between two walls. They only have one window in their main bedroom. Their 2nd bedroom's window opens to the back, facing either a walkway, or the noisy parking lot. Strangers can look in. Our corner unit has no neighbors on one side. It's brighter inside, more private & has incredible views of the beach and the shore, from the main bedroom's corner windows.
In our main bedroom is a "Sleep Number's " King with new digital remotes. Each side adjusts to your desired firmness or softness. Want it "firm", set it at 90. Want it "soft", set it at 35. Some unit's main bedrooms are open to the living room with a thin sliding wall, offering no insulation from the noise of other guests. Our condo has traditional bedrooms. Our solid wall & locking door offers privacy & a quiet retreat. The 2nd Bedroom has twins with comfortable mattresses that can be converted to a 2nd king. Both bedrooms have views of the ocean, the grounds and the pool, plus central air, ceiling fans & cable TV’s. In the living room, there’s a Queen Sleeper sofa with a memory foam mattress. The condo sleeps six plus a baby (there is a 3/4 size crib).
The main bath has a walk-in/roll-in oversized (wheelchair accessible) shower with both a hand held & wall mounted shower head. The 2nd bathroom has a full-size tub (for the little ones) with a shower above & a new hand-held shower head. Both have ceiling fans & new wall mounted hair dryers.
Many non-beach front condos in our complex have low nightly rates. Some have no air, are at the back of the complex with poor views, or not many amenities. Some only have one TV, located in the living room, with no TV for the guests in the bedrooms. Look at their photos. If this is a once in a lifetime vacation, know what you are getting for the rate. The complex does have units to fit every budget.
The direct beach front units usually charge more. They face miles of beautiful shoreline. They have no condos looking into theirs. The non-beach front units in our “U” shaped building, face each other. Guests are out on the lanais, facing each other. Not much privacy.
Nine months out of the year from April, and through late December, we have a lovely sandy beach in front of our complex. During the three-month, whale watching season of January through March, our beach in front is usually rocky. Large winter storms remove much of the sand. If our beach is rocky, you can still enjoy a wide, sandy beach during winter. Just walk across the lawn and enter between our property and the one next door, to SUGAR BEACH (see photos with blue arrows). Or, it's just a few minutes’ walk via the sidewalk behind our property, or a 1-minute drive. At the end of our cul-de-sac is Haycraft Park. It has some parking spots, picnic tables, benches, toilets and showers. It opens to the amazing Sugar Beach.
Starting in early spring the sand comes back to our beach. It gets wider and higher each month until early winter. When our beach is sandy, many guests carefully step over a low, wire "caution" fence to use the beach stairs. Please be careful as there is no hand rail. Or, many guests enter the beach between our complex and next door. See photos with blue arrows.
Beyond our complex, our beach becomes Sugar beach, which runs parallel to a government protected wildlife refuge. Green Sea Turtles lay their eggs along this beach. No development is allowed anywhere along this coast. On a morning walk you may not run into another person. This is the most un-crowded beach on Maui. It runs four miles, all the way to Kihei. Be aware that in the afternoon the wind picks up, so morning walks are best.
Kanai A Nalu is about 15 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes to Lahaina, 10 minutes to Kihei. It's only 1/4 mile from the Harbor for snorkeling, whale/dolphin watching or dinner cruises. There are shops, restaurants, the renowned Maui Ocean Center, the educational Pacific Whale Foundation, and more.
