Kanai A Nalu Condo
MAUI HAS DONE AWAY WITH THE 2ND "RAPID TEST" UPON ARRIVAL, AND NO MASKS ARE REQUIRED OUTDOORS......BY MID - JULY, IT'S POSSIBLE VACCINATED TRAVELERS (WITH PROOF) WILL NOT NEED TO DO THE PRE-TRAVEL TEST.
WE INSTALLED NEW REMOTE CONTROLLED CENTRAL AIR CONDTIONERS IN THE LIVING ROOM, MASTER BEDROOM & 2ND BEDROOM. Each room can be adjusted separately. Maui gets into the 90's and with the humidity at 80%, CENTRAL A/C is a MUST. We want our guests to be cool and comfortable. Each room can be adjusted separately. Condos with a single air conditioner in the front living room window, will have hot bedrooms especially the back bedroom, as only the living room stays cool. Some even have furniture blocking the air flow. Surprisingly some condos still don't have air conditioning. Check their photos carefully if this is important to you.
We have removed items from our unit we can’t properly disinfect which included, reading material, games (small pieces), beach toys, & other items. These items can be purchased "new" on the island at the local Walmart or Target stores to use during your stay. In the early months of 2021 there's NO BACK-TO-BACK bookings to allow at least 28 hours between guests, for extra cleaning and disinfecting. When there is no longer a COVID threat, we will once more allow back-to-back bookings, restore the extra amenities and masks will not be required.
Our description is long. A Maui vacation is a big expense. I try to describe all the amenities and benefits of our unit and our complex. Most people picture in their minds their “Dream” vacation condo, on a beach with spectacular views and magnificent sunrises and sunsets. A beach that goes on for miles and on a morning walk you might not see another person. I think Kanai A Nalu and my condo could fulfill that Dream.
Being right on the beach, and on a corner, our double sized lanai extends beyond the norm offering guests amazing views. A prior owner in a wheelchair was allowed to make this oversized lanai, the largest in the complex that is only steps from the sand. Unlike the small, regular lanais that only seat four, our lanai has two tables and seating for up to 7 guests. Lots of room for everyone to spread out. Being on the ground floor with nothing between you and the ocean, where you can walk right from the lanai, across the lawn to the shore is a wonderful experience.
Please be aware that during winter we have less sand on our beach. See photos from April 2021. Winter storms roll in and remove the sand, taking it out to sea. Fortunately each spring and summer it comes back. But, even in winter if our beach is rocky, miles of wide sandy beach starts just100 feet from our complex. If you are visiting in winter, enjoy the whales that can be seen from our lanai, but know you only have to walk a little ways to this amazing beach.
When you walk in and see the view of the ocean from the living room, you will be delighted. When you go outside, the spectacular 180-degree views of Maui's entire south coast and the island of Lanai will take your breath away. Every morning, have a cup of coffee on the lanai and watch the sun come up over Haleakala, or enjoy the sea turtles popping up in the waves, right in front. In winter see whales doing tale slaps out in Maalaea Bay from our lanai. It is truly, an indescribable experience.
Our Corner Condo is nothing like the interior units that are sandwiched between two common walls. Their units only have one window in their master. Their second bedroom's window opens to the back which faces either a busy walkway, allowing strangers to look in, or the noisy parking lot. Our unit has NO NEIGHBORS ON ONE SIDE. It is quieter, more private and has incredible views of the beach from the master bedroom's large front and side facing, corner windows. Our second bedroom has views of the ocean, the tropical grounds and the pool.
Our condo has traditional bedrooms. No Lofts or a master bedroom that opens to the living room by thin sliding doors. These offer no insulation from the noise of the other guests. Our solid walls offer privacy, and a quiet retreat. Many units in our complex have open master bedrooms, so no TV. In the master is a wonderful “Select Comfort”, "Sleep Number's" King bed. Each side adjusts to your desired firmness or softness. Set at 35, it's so soft. Like a hard mattress? set your side to 85. The 2nd Bedroom has newer mattresses and bedding. The twins can be converted to a king. Both bedrooms have central air, ceiling fans and cable TV’s. Many condos do not have TV's in their back bedrooms. The living room has central air, another TV and a queen sleeper sofa with a comfortable memory foam mattress.
The master bath has a walk-in, roll-in, over-sized, tiled shower. It has both a hand held and wall mounted shower head. The other bathroom has a full-size tub (for bathing little ones), sliding doors and a shower above. Both bathrooms have ceiling fans and wall mounted hair dryers.
Compare our amenities to the other condo's. We have tried to provide many extras, even for families with little ones. Our amenities include remote-controlled CENTRAL air conditioning (in THREE rooms, not just two). Over-sized lanai, just steps from the shore with seating for 6-7, an amazing "Sleep Numbers - Select Comfort" adjustable "firmness or softness" King, Queen Sleeper sofa with newer, memory foam mattress, and twin beds with newer mattresses. Besides the air, condo has six ceiling fans, 3 TVs, 3 DVD players, 2 Blu-ray players, Wi-Fi, movies, a printer, boogie boards, ice chests, beach towels, sand chairs, and a safe for valuables. Plus, a view of the ocean from the kitchen. Updated appliances; a dishwasher, microwave, glass top electric stove, side-by-side fridge with an ice maker & filtered water and a digital washer and a dryer. There's a toaster, toaster oven, popcorn popper, blender, coffee maker, cookware, utensils, glassware, wine glasses, silverware, dishes, loads of kitchen accessories for cooking and an iron and ironing board.
FOR CHILDREN WE HAVE: A stroller, 3/4 size Crib, a High-chair, Pack & Play, a Baby Gate, and a Booster Seat. I have six grandchildren, so little ones are welcome. We use to have games and puzzles, but due to not being able to disinfect all the little pieces against coronavirus we no longer feel it's safe to provide them. You can bring items with you, or purchase new items at a local store.
Our complex is on a quiet cul-de-sac with very little traffic, beautiful tropical grounds, stainless steel BBQ's, a heated pool and pool-side eating area. Our ground floor condo #117, is steps from a parking spot. There's no walking to the back of the building for an elevator or dragging your luggage up flights of stairs. Our unit is steps from the pool and the beach.
During low tide (and during the summer months) our beach goes for four miles (to Kihei), becoming a government protected beach where the green sea turtles lay their eggs each year. On a morning walk you may not run into another person. It's like your own private paradise. Be aware, that in the morning the wind on this beach is calm, but in the afternoon, it picks up and can become pretty breezy. But the breezes keep the heat away.

Our condo is a wheelchair accessible unit (but not ADA compliant). The previous owner was in a wheelchair. There's an extra wide door into the master bedroom and into the master bath. He enlarged the shower and made it "roll in" with grab bars. There's a regular, and a hand held shower head. He also enlarged the lanai to accommodate his wheelchair plus tables and chairs.
The two-acre Kanai A Nalu is rated as one of the best properties in Maalaea. One of only three properties on the beach. The other seven (towards the harbor) are on a reef. Check their photos, if you don't see a sandy beach, they are on a reef. Two are next to the busy Maalaea Harbor, with its boat engine noise and fumes. Many have distant parking lots and half have coin $$ operated laundry rooms. Our condo has its own digital washer and dryer and free parking just steps from our entrance.
Maalaea, and Kanai A Nalu, is about 15 minutes from the airport. It is only 20 minutes to Lahaina, 10 minutes to Kihei, and only 1/4 mile from the Maalaea Harbor (for whale/dolphin watching and dinner or snorkeling cruises). There are shops, restaurants and the Maui Ocean Center, plus the Pacific Whale Foundation.
There are many inexpensive units at in the complex. Some have no air (sweating during your entire vacation is no fun) or there is only one TV and not many amenities. Some only cater to adults or only sleep four. Read the reviews (we have over 148), look at their photos. The units on the back row are 200 feet from the shore.
Except for the direct beach front units (that face the shore), the condos in our ”U” shaped complex face each other. People are hanging out on the lanais and looking into the other units. Not much privacy.
