At Anini Beach, among many listings on Vrbo, there are only 25 houses for rent, including this, that are actually in the beach neighborhood. It is also permitted by the County as 4217.
The North Shore of Kauai has the third largest barrier coral reef in the world, behind only the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Costa Rica. At Anini this reef creates lagoon like conditions allowing swimming in all seasons most days of the year in warm calm water. Kai Malie translates as calm sea.
The house is across a two lane road from the beach and 100 steps take you along a flat sandy dedicated beach access to the beach and water. The house is 3 bedroom, 2 bath plus loft (stairway, not ladder access) which can accommodate a large or extended family or group of close friends. The house is surrounded by a huge wraparound deck. Each bedroom has its own sliding door to the deck as well as a solid core (quiet for an early bedtime) interior door. Sun or shade, breezy or quiet you can choose one of many seating areas to relax on the deck. There are some small ocean views. In front there is a covered lanai to gather in case of rain. In back, off the kitchen, an outdoor dining table seats 8.
The grounds are a full half acre of tropical landscaping. There are two grassy ball courts for play, covered parking under the house, many small gardens featuring different plants or sunny/shady seating. Fruit trees abound with papaya, chocolate, mango, avocado, citrus, breadfruit and more. Orchids hang from trees, ginger and heliconia bloom. Faint floral smells hang in the air. Even at night flowers bloom.
The house has tile floor throughout. The great room has comfortable seating and indoor dining accommodating 8. The kitchen has been remodeled with quality cabinets and silestone counter tops. An island with stools is good for quick meals or to keep the designated cook from feeling lonely. The baths have a Swedish spa decor with high cedar ceilings. One bath has a walk-in shower and the other has a jetted tub with a handheld shower. There is a full size washer and drier.
We provide beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, gas bbq and bed and bath linens. We also offer miscellaneous beach toys that we have available. This might include boogie boards, bikes, some snorkel gear. Anini is a wonderful snorkel spot. We offer snorkel gear to introduce someone, particularly children, to the sport. If you are already a fan please bring your own good fitting mask for full enjoyment. You can probably skip the fins if they are too much to pack. Kayaking and SUP are also excellent here. Serious boogie boarding is available one beach south of Anini. Hiking on the NaPali Coast is world class and smaller hikes are available.
Each bedroom has a queen bed, closet, ceiling fan, an extra fan for the rare day over 85 degrees, bed tables and reading lamps. The loft has a double futon. Only an area about 10x12 ft is tall enough for adults to stand. The loft is ideal for children 4 to preteen. AC is not generally needed or available on the North Shore.
Within two miles south and north are the towns of Kilauea and Princeville. Beyond Princeville another mile is Hanalei. All provide different selections of shops, stores, restaurants, tours, rentals and sporting opportunities. Of particular note is golf at Princeville.
The house is located across from the short, sandy, flat beach access. Snorkeling, kayaking and SUP are excellent here. Wonderful for children also. It is very quiet--most people miss the beach accesses and continue to the public beach park. The park is a short walk. The homes and landscaping on the way are lovely. You can also walk the total length of the 2 mile long beach.
The house address is 3591 Anini Beach Road. The County of Kauai has permitted this rental as NCU 4217P. As with all rentals outside the Vacation Destination Areas, elevated noise activities or amplified music are prohibited after 10pm. Parking is on the property and not permitted on public road right of way. The 24/7 on island contact is Susan Giuliano. Her phone for problems, not rentals, is 808 652 8586.

Our family holiday couldn’t have been better. It’s hard to find the right adjectives describing the awesome week we had: sublime, joyous, vivacious and relaxing all at the same time. My grandchildren had a blast running around the veranda, and then playing keep-away and hide-and-seek on the huge lawn. And of course there’s the beach! Just a few hundred yards stroll and you're there. Perfect beach for young ones; shallow and warm. The house and all it had to offer were perfect. We want to go back!

The location of the house is everything that is promised. The house is very close to Anini Beach, which is a wonderful snorkeling beach with lots of turtles. The house has a great lay-out with room for our family of introverts to get some privacy. We really loved everything on the wrap-around deck, especially the hammock! There were a lot of geckos inside and outside, which were wonderful. The property is very large with lots of beautiful vegetation including many coconut and fruit trees.
Now for the not-so-good parts. Through VRBO and its competitors, we've stayed at 30+ locations over the years, and this stay had by far the most issues of any stay. For the first time ever, the price was changed by a large percentage after we had requested booking, before being confirmed. We probably would have chosen a different house if the higher price had been shown when we submitted our request, but by the time we received the revised number the other house was no longer available. When we arrived, we found a leaky sink (not dripping faucet) to the point of losing several gallons of water a day under the sink (which we contacted the hosts who arranged to get it repaired within 2 days); this meant we spent a couple days remembering to turn off the water to the sink or emptying the big bowl we put under it every couple hours. The internet was only marginally usable with DNS problems requiring several reloads during many portions of the day, meaning it was not usable for work beyond email, something that was definitely not made clear in the listing and would have made us reconsider. Although the surfaces and floors were clean, there were spiderwebs in virtually every room. The kitchen was well-appointed but most of the cutting knives were dangerously dull.
Probably the most frustrating portion of the stay was when we lost power and the backup battery in one of the smoke detectors started to get low. It began beeping every couple minutes starting at 11pm. The smoke detector was about 15 ft off the ground with no ladder. Thankfully, the battery eventually died after about 11 hours but we had a very unpleasant night. When we contacted the host, they weren't even aware wired smoke detectors had backup batteries. Fortunately, the on-island contact did come with a ladder and fresh batteries for all of the smoke detectors the next morning.
Overall, given the significant price of the rental, we expected fewer issues. Again, though, you can't beat the location.

Wish we had stayed longer! Perfect location at Anini Beach and super close to all North Shore beaches. The house has a perfect floor plan with bedrooms at each corner and living space in the middle so there’s a bit of privacy for everyone. The full wrap around deck is perfect for coffee or just relaxing. We had two couples, 3 teens, and a ten- yr-old and all loved it. Thank you so much!

This was perfect for our trip! It allowed us all to have our own spaces but still a large communal area. The kids loved the porch and our 2 teens spent most of our down time arguing over the hammock. :) Its only a short walk to the beach and the location really can’t be beat. The only negatives are that the beds are a bit hard and it got warm in the house but we were mentally prepared since no rentals on the northside have AC. We would definitely stay here again!

The perfect home and location for our Kauai getaway.
We enjoyed sunrise on Anini beach (sea turtles swam right up to us).
The location is very convenient, close to Foodland in Princeville and the awesome restaurants and bay in Hanalei.
The house had everything you could need/expect!
Highly Recommend!

In general, we had a very lovely experience. The house is spacious and comfortable - if a little bit worn out. Loved the wrap around porch and easy access to the beach. Swimming in the waters surrounded by the reef is the best - calm, warm, clear water. Couldn't be better. Owners need to remove notes about the availability of bikes and kayak. Bikes rusted out and unusable - kayak not there. Plenty of food staples in kitchen, along with full compliment of dishes and cookware. (Coffee grinder did not work.) Caretaker quick to respond to a couple of issues about screen door and broken wheel on garbage receptacle. In general, a wonderful place to stay and relax.

My family (2 adults, 5yo, 2yo) stayed for a week in mid July and absolutely loved it. I was worried about it getting too hot but with fans on and windows open, it was never too warm. The beach is right across the street (2 min walk) and the reef there keeps the waves calm so it was perfect for the kids to play. Anini beach view is simply amazing. My only minor complaint is that the mattresses were not super comfortable.
