We loved this place! The location was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, clean & comfortable & the views in this area are incredible! The patio area is wonderful with many sitting areas & a grille. So many beaches to choose from & Haena State Park is just down the road (make reservations). If you're looking for shopping, restaurants, bike or kayak rental you will find it all a short drive from the house in Hanalei. Everything you need for a beach day is available at the house. I you make plans to visit this incredible island, I highly recommend this home!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage. The house itself is very comfortable, airy and well stocked with essentials. For us though, the real star attraction was the location, as it's located near the termination point of the Kuhio Hwy. It's in a more remote, localized area, removed from the large resort type complexes. It also has a string of some of the most beautiful beaches that you can walk to from the property that were almost deserted and very private. It's also located very near to some of the natural star attractions of the north shore, such as Haena and Tunnels beach and Haena State Park and the Kalalau Trail.
Heavy tropical vegetation is sustained by short, frequent showers that gather over the beautiful mountains of the Napali Coast. The host is also very responsive to any questions or concerns. Makes it hard to leave.

Took my Mom to show her Kauai for the first time and wanted to stay on the north side as she's a huge flower-and-plants person. The home is beautiful, with plenty of space for everyone to spread out and lounge around inside, on the lanai, and in the large first-floor lounge and yard.
The owner, Donna, is lovely and we got to chat with her when she swung by to (very promptly) see to a quick maintenance issue a few days into our stay -- Mom was very excited to learn that Pierce Brosnan lives down the street (no, we never spotted him).
The location is amazing, with breeze and birds and the beach only a short walk away. I strongly recommend you consider this beautiful spot for your next trip to Kauai!

The property is well kempt and in a perfect location to enjoy the Na Pali coast and all of its activities. The description of the property is accurate. Donna was perfectly responsive to a few minor questions.
We enjoyed the local trails and scenery. We are not surfers, however, it must be tremendous at the right time of year.

The cottage was charming, location dreamy. The kitchen was well-appointed, gas grill very nice. By the 3rd night, we were awakened several times with what we assumed were normal tropical noises. Strangely, we found pieces of chewed wood and metal in the bathroom. We didn’t realize at the time that the sounds and debris were related to rat activity in the home. We were awakened the next night to loud scratching noises. There were definitely rats in the ceiling and walls. We saw a piece of wood nailed to the ceiling, clearly a patch, where rats had entered the home previously. There were rat trails too. The bathroom had a bad odor that can only be from rats. We notified the property host who said she’d get an exterminator (she never did), and that she would bring traps and sonic deterrents. VRBO refused to help as we had not contacted them within 24hours of check in. We did notify them as soon as we realized the rat problem. We looked for alternate lodging on our own and found nothing available. We spent little time in the home and continued to have sleepless nights due to the rat activity.
We felt the host lied to us. Not only that she said she’d get an exterminator and didn’t, but she said she had never had this problem before. Ceiling patch, and bags of rat poison in a storage room that clearly had been there before our stay, told a different story.
We are grateful for the partial refund we did receive. But are left with a bad feeling & wonder at all 5* reviews.

What a phenomenal experience that we had. This home is within a short walk of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The surrounding community is also a garden paradise. The home is gorgeous and well equipped. We had everything that we needed. The owner, Donna, also immediately responded to questions that we had. She cares a lot about others and is committed to her tenants. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

This was was a COVID-delayed return to the north shore and Kauai for my husband and myself, both 75 and active. This property worked very well for us and we really appreciated the location and setting of the property. One of the constant pleasures was hearing delightful bird songs - and I am not referring to the chickens, which are also to be heard. Donna is responsive to concerns, but also does the unusual of communicating potential problems, such as road work or beach closures. That extra effort on her part was particularly thoughtful.
Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable week here.

I have been looking forward to staying near tunnels beach for a few years, this was a great location to spend time watching the sunrise and set over the Na Pali coast. The house is great and the ground floor living space is a huge added bonus. A privacy fence and gate make this house feel like an oasis and all the plants give an excellent separation from the neighbors.
This house is situated in a small quiet neighborhood which is the experience I was looking for.
I am looking forward to my next trip back to this house.

Beautifully maintained and well-appointed property. The management is very responsive, both prior to arrival and during stay. Looks just like the photos with great outdoor areas on ground floor. Very walkable spot, both to all local beaches including Tunnels, as well as very close to the local coffee/pastry shop as well as Opakapaka grill, which is a real plus in this community, to have a happy hour / restaurant so convenient to walk to.
Will definitely stay at this property again.

We wanted to escape the busyness of much of the island closer to Lihue and this was the perfect spot. Princeville is much more of the club/resort community feel which is great if that’s you, but we like to escape where you can get more of a local vibe and have quick access to the less crowded beaches. Hanalei is a quick trip in one direction and Haena/Tunnels is the other.
The big outdoor areas were great for relaxing after or before hitting the sights. My son loved chasing and catching all the frogs & lizards too!
All the beach equipment and toys made things really easy and we felt at home. We never even bothered or thought about turning on the TV during our week stay which is saying a lot for us!
The living room a/c is currently not working well, but wasn’t a big deal to us. The ceiling fans made it manageable. The owner explained the unit is under warranty but having troubles getting anyone out to take care of. She offered to bring out a portable a/c but we declined… just wasn’t a big issue for us while we enjoyed the Paradise!

The house was really well situated a walk to the beautiful tunnels Beach and in a quiet neighbourhood. Donna was very quick and helpful to respond to any questions we had and the house was well stocked and supplied with lots of extra living space outdoors with many different seating areas. My only small negative was that the air conditioners in the bedrooms were really noisy so tended to wake you up as they turned in and off during the night. But the location made up for it

We had an amazing stay in Donna’s home. It was an awesome location, so close to a beautiful beach where we had a great time snorkeling at. It is located on the corner of the street but noise was never a problem. It was very peaceful there. The house looks exactly as it does in the pictures. This house made for a wonderful stay while in Kuaui. It was just as beautiful as pictured and conveniently located close to some great snorkeling at Tunnel's Beach. Something that I loved about this house was how well it was stocked with supplies. Most notedly, there was a lot of gear for our beach outings (i.e., chairs, umbrella, cooler, snorkeling fins, etc). It was also really nice being away from the more crowded areas. It is next to a road, but that was no problem, as it isn't hectic, especially at night.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Barefoot Hideway! It was exactly what we were looking for during our vacation on Kauai's North Shore. A very cozy home tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Ha'ena, just 6 miles north of Hanalei. Close to Tunnels, Ke'e Beach and 3 blocks away from the Hanalei Colony Resort. We spent our evenings enjoying the outdoor living space. The owner, Donna is extremely friendly and very attentive. I highly recommend this vacation rental for anyone who wants to experience the relaxing Aloha local vibes on the North Shore!!

This lovely cottage was an absolute dream getaway. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, just a short distance from Ha'ena State Park and beach as well as Tunnels Beach. It's also a short, and scenic, drive to charming Hanalei. The cottage is decorated in a bright beach theme and has everything a guest needs. We especially loved the yard with beautiful native plants. We BBQ'd using the gas grill and there were lots of comfortable seating outside on the lanai. The cottage and all of its furnishings, beds included, are of great quality and I am sure that you will enjoy your stay. This place is a gem and we are already dreaming of returning. This is a lovely nicely decorated home located in a tropical paradise about a 12 minute drive from the town of Hanalei. It has a beautiful downstairs lanai with comfy couches and loungers.
The kitchen is well stocked with appliances, pots and pans and spices. The owner has thought of everything with providing ice chests, beach chairs and umbrellas as well as instructions to operate the televisions and fans.
It is a short walk to the beach along a road without sidewalks, but it was not a problem.
We will definitely be staying at this property again!

The place was great for when we got married and stayed for part of our honeymoon. It was clean and had cooking supplies, laundry soap with the washer and dryer. The electricity flickered and was out twice for a little bit. Compared to our second stay of our trip, we wished we would’ve just stayed the entire time at this house. Location in Haena was perfect. Short walk to the beach. Ample amount of towels and they even had a curling iron and hair dryer. It was so convenient to have the washer and dryer there. The host was quick to respond. Quiet neighborhood. Very clean free of ants. There were ant traps just in case, but we didn’t really see any in the house at all. It turned out to be a great stay.

We breathed a deep, relaxing ahhh when we stepped foot into this light & airy updated home. Everything was better than we imagined, surpassing the photos. The gated yard with gorgeous gardens provided absolute privacy. We were an easy walk to the pristine peaceful beaches of the north shore. The only sounds we heard were those of tropical birds singing & an occasional rooster. The spacious open air ground level provides choices for places to dine or recline. The owner provided us with punctual responses to all of our requests & questions. She provided detailed suggestions of where to dine, swim or snorkel. As experienced travelers, we feel confident that it doesn’t get much better than this. Perfect for a romantic getaway & roomy for 4. We were grateful to be guests in this tropical home.

Seriously, a lot of love went into this place and it shows. Everything was thought out and we never wanted for anything, even with flood warnings and unpredictable weather on the north end (weather does what weather will), the place made us feel secure and cozy. It was also soooooo fun to just be there and have THAT MUCH space to spread out in! There’s fruit trees in the yard and some cute peekaboo views of the surrounding mountains from the bedroom windows. Beds were extremely comfortable and sheets were super nice. The stars at night are unbeatable. It’s the perfect location to separate from the busier parts of the island, but you’re close enough to grocery stores and eateries in Hanelai, etc.
you’re also super close to a bar and grill, day spa, and the best areas of the ocean for snorkeling [tunnels] (took 2 minutes to walk across the street to these).
kitchen and wares were amazing, by the way— we chose to cook a lot and it was supported very well by the amenities!
Be warned that during the rainy season there is a chance of the bridge being closed in Hanelai/ a lot of water pooling on the road. Also wouldn’t recommend staying on the north end in general if you’re trying to be south or west much of your trip. That’s nothing against the property though!! Definitely a place for respite. Thank you for keeping your property so beautiful and sharing it with us, Donna!

There were multiple destinations within this charming property for my husband and I to enjoy at the beginning and end of each day of our stay. This is an excellent home for 4 people. Great location to Haena state park. Easy access to Beaches. Due to weather conditions, surf was hide and current was strong, so we were unable to safely play in the water on northside beaches. The home was well equipped to cook meals. A super cute neighbor cat visited every morning. We LOVED her! Beds were SO comfortable. Home had many seating arrangements. We appreciated the many fans for airflow. We will definitely be back.

We just loved this little spot. The home is welcoming with everything you need as a visitor but still feels like you're apart of the community. Haena is absolutly special and beautiful. This home stands up. We enjoyed walking the property and looking at the tropical landscaping. We spent most our days out exploring the island and would bring food home for dinner. The outdoor patio is so spacious and was perfect for winding down in the evening. We had a party of 4 (2 adult couples). The 2 bed / 2 bath was perfect for having our own space for getting ready in the mornings... speaking of mornings, walking down to the beach with our coffee to watch the sunrise was my favorite! We will be back.

The listing is exactly as advertised and more. We stayed for nearly a week and were thrilled for the local adventure options including amazing beaches, shopping, and hiking. The home guide provided includes great information for beach access. We appreciated the vibe of the home. It truly felt like a personal vacation home and not a large-scale sterile property management company that is so common on VRBO. Donna the host (presumed owner) was very friendly and helpful. I almost did not want to write a review, hoping to keep this gem of a house all to ourselves. However, the owner, Donna, deserves the credit for making this such a wonderful experience. The house is beautiful. Beds are incredibly comfortable. There are even robes to use as in luxury hotels! The kitchen is stocked with every utensil, serving item, appliance you need. We even made a pot roast one day with the slow cooker. The new grill makes the best fresh fish and burgers (ok, must give my husband credit - he is the cook of the family!). BEST LOCATION!! We've been coming to the North Shore for over 25 years. Short walk a lovely beach which had a total of 10 people on it on any day. The coffee house at Hanalei Colony Resort is a nice morning convenience as well. And if you like daily walks, you will love the neighborhood and scenery. Truly could not have asked for anything more!!

We had an amazing 5 day stay at this awesome property. The home was clean and airy with a great kitchen (we love to cook), SUPER comfortable beds, quiet neighborhood, and everything we wanted for our stay. When at the house we spent most of our time enjoying the beautiful downstairs area - during the day with the fans on was perfect to relax. It was also awesome that there was lots of covered area so even when it rained you could enjoy being outside. The sprinkles on the awesome cupcake were the stars at night. We enjoyed looking up at the Milky Way most nights. Location wise we couldn’t have asked for better - close to various beaches, hiking (we used the shuttle to the state park), Hanalei and Princeville were a quick drive to grab groceries, loved the more quiet/less bustle than other parts of the island, and great farmers markets. It is a decent drive to the other parts of the island - we like road-trips so this was a non-issue but if you don’t like being in a car or want to get to things quickly this is the only thing we could think of that would be a “heads up”. We greatly appreciated detailed information provided prior to our stay as well as in the house book and various FYIs provided around the home. We needed some assistance one day and Donna was quick to respond and on it. Wonderful host, home, and all around experience. Thank you Donna!

The house was a perfect jumping off point for us. Easy access to some of the popular snorkeling spots that can be impossible to get parking at if you stay anywhere else. Walking distance to the beach and a little coffee shop and restaurant, but drive into Hanalei or beyond for the best food. House was very well stocked as was the kitchen. There were lots of little extra things around that saved buying a whole bottle of bug spray when we only needed it for one day. AC was great and separate in each room so we could stay cool at night without having to cool the whole house. Flora and fauna are beautiful in the downstairs area and everywhere. Don’t miss the stars at night! The only thing I wish I had done differently was to arrive when it was still light out. The one way bridges are something to get used to and the road is winding, but nothing that can’t be managed as we did arrive after dark. Our stay was wonderful, would love to go back!

We spent the entire month of August in Donna’s home. It was nothing short of perfect! We loved walking in the neighborhood, going to the nearby beach, and driving daily into Hanalei and Kilauea. Some finishes in the house are worn/rusty, but that is seeming to be the case with several on the island.
Kitchen is well equipped and feels roomy with the high ceilings. If I was to change anything, it would be the slotted doors on the bedrooms. You can hear everything...no privacy. If someone gets up at night to use the restroom, everyone hears it and wakes.
Other than that, I thought it was a great place.

This house was perfect for two couples, ourselves and adult daughter with husband. Everything was easy to move into and feel like home, with thoughtful amenities. Snorkle equipment was much appreciated! The small almost private beach with awesome snorkeling a 3 minute walk from the house is amazing! Only heads up-- reservations now needed for Haena State Park to go to Ke'e Beach and Kalalau Trail. Best sunset view from beach around the bend. Maybe add salt and pepper and a couple bikes for an A++. WOULD DEFINITELY COME BACK!

This property is tucked away in the most beautiful area of the island. Just a 5 minute drive to Hanea State Park with easy walking access to jaw dropping beaches, it’s heavenly. While here, The Swell Smoothies and More is not to be missed. They carry a bunch of of local food/goods plus have a smoothie/cafe window out back with fantastic daily offerings. Perfection!

House was perfect for our stay and had everything we needed: plenty of linens, kitchen with an abundance of utensils, bbq grill, excellent washer/dryer, and a lovely patio area for relaxing! Most importantly, the location is located a walk away from Tunnels Beach and a quick drive to either Haena Park or the town of Hanalei. Would love to stay in the future.

We rented this place with another couple. We had several meals here and enjoyed coming back after long days of doing other activities. The owner, Donna, was responsive both before we got there and during our visit. Easy to work with. Nice place and good value.

Great location on North Shore near Hanalei Colony Resort. Kitchen/living/outside area perfect for relaxation before/after daily activities. Bedrooms smallish and AC a little noisy but plenty of room for clothing, beds were comfortable. Would stay here again.

My family had an excellent time staying at this property for 3 nights. Donna provided excellent instructions for check-in and was very responsive. The home was very comfortable and well-furnished, and was very conveniently located for going to Haena Stete park, and also within a 5 minute walk to the beach. Would recommend!

This home on the north shore of Kauai is a relaxing spot to enjoy all that Kauai has to offer. The great lanai (where the washer and dryer are located) makes for a great place to rest and play games. There are pros and cons to staying here, and I will list them now:
Pros: upstairs lanai, BBQ, well stocked kitchen, garden setting, walking distance to Tunnels and other beautiful beaches, approximately 10 minute drive to get to Hanalei for shops and food, private carport behind gate, located near jungle, beautiful Mountain View’s, and in a quiet neighborhood
Cons: while in a beautiful location, it is very remote relative to the rest of the island; beds were just average; relative to the photos, the house has been well loved and used and may be in need of a refresher; ants (keep everything in the fridge); this part of the island is subject to power outages and we experienced four outages within our 11-night stay; and lastly, cleanliness. The sheets are stained and had to be washed pretty much upon our arrival, the kitchen felt dirty and the dishes/pots&pans were greasy and not cleaned. The dishwasher smelled foul on arrival and had to be cleaned. The “master” bathroom felt grimy and was malodorous.

This was a very comfortable and large space for my family of four. The outdoor spaces are set up as an extension of the house and provide a great space to relax with fresh breezes and also a great place to lay back and watch the rain storms. This stay occurred during the partial road closures around princeville, and I was so happy we were able to travel freely to and from Haneli. The beaches up here are the best of Kaui ( in my opinion) and this house is really close to them all.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barefoot Hideaway. It's conveniently located so you can walk to the beach a few blocks away. It's clean, well organized and nicely set up to cook meals at the house, which we like to do with our two kids. Donna is a very good host and very responsive. It's also reasonably priced compared to many places in the area. We'd go back again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay. The house was perfect for our needs, including a well equipped kitchen, tons of beach gear, and air conditioning to combat the heat. Donna was helpful and responsive in every way. The property is a very short walk to uncrowded and unspoiled beaches where world class sunsets greeted each evening. Having spent summers in Haena most of my youth, this was a trip down memory lane like no other. We miss it already! Thanks for opening your wonderful property up for our use.

The house is smaller but has everything you need and plenty of outdoor space to spread out. Neighborhood is very quiet and seemed safe. Perfect for two couples with two full baths and bedrooms or for a small family. Can easily walk to a beach to watch the sunsets. Very close to Hanalei which has everything you need on the north shore. Host was great to work with and communicated everything we needed to know exceptionally well. Well stocked house , easy to make meals if thats your thing!

We stayed May 9th - 15th, 2021 and absolutely loved our time in Haena and the North Shore. The house was stocked with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, and also had all gear we needed for a day at the beach. The flora & fauna at the house and in the neighborhood was simply amazing. The drive from Hanalei into Haena offers breathtaking views, I wish we could live out there! This is a very quiet neighborhood and gave us quick access to everything we wanted to do on the North shore. You could walk to Hanalei Colony Resort which had a restaurant & bar. We made the quick 10 minute drive into Hanalei each morning for breakfast at our favorite cafe. Our host Donna was very helpful with letting us know current road conditions and schedules-Excellent communication from the host. Loved it there, we can't wait to come back next year!

We rented this house for our family of 5 and had a great experience! The decor of the home is very beachy, relaxing, and well kept. We loved having the washer and dryer, full kitchen, and especially the beach gear. There were plenty of high quality sheets, blankets, towels, dishes, etc. The only less than perfect things I would say are: the living area and kitchen are smaller than they appear in the pictures, but we soon realized we don't need so much space; and, the home is right on the main road, which was not what we expected from the description (pretty busy road during the day, calms down at night). I did not feel comfortable letting our 5 year old play downstairs by herself due to the road. However, I would recommend this house to anyone! It is clean, well kept, nicely appointed, and most importantly, about 1 mile from Tunnels Beach (our favorite beach in the world!) We will stay again!

This is a great home..and I mean home! It feels like someone really lives there because it is so well appointed and thoughtfully stocked. You are able to cook whatever, however you like with the kitchen and outside appliances. Beach stuff is great, though after time - I decreased the amount of stuff I was constantly toting around. Laundry facilities are a huge bonus as is the wicked bathtub!
Being in Haena (which I do believe means Heaven) is ideal if you want to really get away. If you like nightlife, I would suggest either entertaining at the home or staying closer to Kapa'a or the southern part of the island - driving the road up to the house (especially between Hanalei Town and home) at night can get a little sketchy.
Anything that we needed, which wasn't much, from the owner was quickly and satisfactorily addressed.
For myself and my 7 year old son, this place was within perfect distance to everything we wanted to see and do while on Kaua'i. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

It's a tired but cozy home on stilts right in the heart of the north shore beaches, It was great being close to Ke'e and Hanalei, but going anywhere else is a chore, The building is 50ft from the main road and there's traffic on it all day long - approx 1 to 5 vehicles a minute so it's not that bad, but hardly what I would call quiet. At night it drops off, but there's still a car every few minutes roaring by. From the owners description, I expeted a quiet unit at the end of a road surrounded by jungle. It's actually right on the road and surrounded by other homes. Granted, there's plenty of plantings and sufficient privacy, but it's not secluded in the least as the description infers.
The 'walk to beach' is not bad, but you have to brave the main road for 100yds.
The unit is also loaded with countless small ants everywhere. It's tolerable, but we chose not to inform the owners until after the stay because we do not want exposure to any pesticides.
The kitchen was nice but the grill is the cheapest thing you can find. They have two other el-cheapo grills on the property as well - evidence of previous purchases of poor quality grills. The owner needs to invest once in a basic Weber gas grill - that will be the last time they purchase a grill.
Everything else was as billed. I would not stay here again, but an adventurous group that wanted to surf and hike their entire trip would be happy here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for five nights in August 2009. The house is wonderful, clean, spacious and with everything we needed. Sublime beaches are only a short walk or drive away. The north shore of Kauai is paradise for sure!!

This house was cute, comfortable, wonderfully relaxing and had everything anyone could want including beach gear. We loved getting to stay so close to Tunnels Beach, interesting lava caves, Ke'e Beach, Ha'ena State Park, the trailhead to Kalalau Trail and in one of the most lush, green and tropical parts of Kauai. If you want to be away from the bulk of tourists this is the place to be. Although the house is on a main road, there is absolutely no traffic at night and it is very quiet. The owners are very conscientious and thorough. It was nice to have air conditioning; we were able to use it to bring down the general temperature in the house, and then rely only on the ceiling fans all night to keep us comfortable. The beds were a perfect combination of support and softness. The house felt very private, and it was always a joy to return to after exploring the island. My kids got a big kick out of the lone adorable gecko that showed up in the shower periodically. I will always return to this rental in the future.
