Tucked away on over an acre of lush paradise along the Wainiha Stream in an ancient grove of 100 ft. tall mango trees lies the Hale Wainiha. Offering privacy, rest and refreshment, this charming home sits on a bluff overlooking an expansive view of the entire river valley with neighboring taro farm and spectacular vistas of distant mountains. Relax and enjoy the amazing views from the deck or from your private pool and hot tub. Starry nights in the hot tub are truly magical. And the pool is cool and refreshing after a hot day at the beach. Or the perfect morning wake up. The large yard is like a botanical garden filled with exotic birds and flowers and fruit trees. Pick a Papaya or a Banana, cut some giant Heliconia flowers. This lush valley is a serene retreat, nourishing the soul with natures greatest beauty while offering all the modern comforts of home, you almost won't want to leave the property. But when you do, it is ridiculously close to the best beaches on the island, Tunnels, Lumahai, Ke'e and Hanalei. Firstly, Lumaha'i, just 1 mile away, with its long deep stretches of soft sand broken by picturesque protrusions of lava rocks creating dramatic ocean breaks. Tunnels Beach has an amazing reef and offers the best snorkeling on the island, also surfing and the mountain backdrop creates amazing views. At the end of the road is the dramatic Ke'e beach. Besides its great snorkeling, and sunsets, this is the gateway to the amazing Napali Coast offering one of the worlds most spectacular hikes. The 2 mile hike to Hanakapia'i Beach with it's expansive ocean vistas is a 'must do', but if you can do the additional 2 miles to the Hanakapia'i Falls you're in for the treat of a lifetime. A large pool fed by a 300' waterfall, just spectacular!! Wainiha is surrounded by the best snorkeling, surfing, kayaking and hiking on all of the Hawaiian islands. You'll never have to leave this magical corner of the island.
Just 4 miles away is Hanalei Bay with its pristine 3 mile crescent beach of fine sand and perfect surf. The quaint town of Hanalei offers interesting shops, a market, and world class dining. My personal favorites are 'Tahiti Nui' (live music, good Mai Tais) and the 'Dolphin' (freshest sushi you've ever eaten). You can rent kayaks and paddle up the Hanalei river or out to the bay, paddle to Hideaways beach and snorkel, or just land at the St. Regis beach and have lunch at the poolside cafe, (sneak a dip in their beautiful pool). Also you can go Horseback Riding or Ziplining at the Princeville Ranch, or take the amazing Helicoptor ride from the Princeville Heliport. Or do it my way, just take a book and relax on a quiet beach. You'll have your private paradise waiting for your every day when you're ready to go home.

Please Note:
The Hale Wainiha is located in a Tsunami evacuation zone. After confirming your booking a PDF with the evacuation procedure in the event of a tsunami will be provided to you. Registration Number: GE-006-292-2752-01, 580040180002, TA-006-292-2752-01

I can't recommend this property enough. VRBO can be difficult to tell if the pictures are accurate, but this property definitely delivers on ALL promises and more. If you're looking for a quiet, private little getaway spot, this is it.

Everything about this place is amazing. There are no adequate words to describe the view. Just incredible. No lights at night, we could see the stars. Very private, comfortable, the bathroom looked new, love the shower! New appliances in the kitchen. Small, perfect for two. The decks were excellent love eating out there in the scenery. Birds everywhere. One cool detail.. most of the watercolors and prints in the house seem to be done by the owner. They are beautiful. So convenient to the northern beaches!

We booked Hale Wainiha to celebrate our 10th anniversary and were not disappointed in our choice. The property is exactly as listed and is a wonderful place to hang out after spending our days exploring Kaua’i. The lush jungle views offered by Wainiha Valley from the lanai during the day are exceptional and star gazing from the hot tub and pool at night is absolutely stunning. We enjoyed watching the nene come and go from the stream that runs through the valley. Jeffrey is a talented artist and his watercolor paintings are a joy to see hanging on the walls.

We had a wonderful stay at this secluded slice of paradise. Off the beaten path, it was the perfect place to disconnect and relax, while still being within an easy drive of town, beaches, and other attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, and the only drawback was that it would have been nice to have more towels for the week. But overall, an amazing experience!

Awesome. It was awesome. Neighbors are allot closer than pictures would suggest. 3 houses within 100 feet, BUT it was still extremely private. Jungle living I guess. We could never find the trail down to the small river/creek but we could see it. The outside shower was my favorite. Taking a hot shower outside in the garden of Eden was pretty amazing. Very well kept, clean, updated. The property manager always communicated back quickly with any questions we had. We loved it.

We loved this property . Jeffrey is an outstanding host . The views, flowers , hot tub were all great . Only ONLY downside is that roosters crow 24/7 so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper . Otherwise perfection .

We had a great holiday at the property and surrounding area. The property is well situated with beautiful landscaping and mountain views with easy access to the many attractions in the northern part of the island. The house is well maintained -- a new washing machine was installed the day we arrived, as well as a new living room carpet. It is obvious that the owner is devoted to keeping the property in great condition. The caretaker lives in proximity, and is attentive, cheerful and competent. We will happily return in the future.

It's hard to describe how amazing this property is - we felt like we were staying in a private botanical garden with an incredible pool & hot tub! It was perfection. The house was well appointed with coffee and luxury linens and everything we could need, but we spent most of our time on the sprawling patios/decks surrounded by nature and mountains! The property manager Koko was super helpful, when we left an item behind he immediately mailed it to us. What a gem!

Stunning. Just as advertised. Clean, well-stocked jungle getaway on the North Shore. Jeffrey was gracious enough to give us an extra hour....made our last day on the island a memorable one. Worth every penny.

We had a wonderful time relaxing in this property. Had a little panic when we found the hot tub cold, but that’s just how it’s supposed to work: you turn the jets on and it heats up very quickly. The property was pretty, immaculate, and very comfortable, and the grounds are amazing. We’ll be back.

Few things are more satisfactory than realizing that you can have a wonderful vacation without ever leaving your lodging. We rented this cottage to celebrate a decade of marriage. It was a fantastic choice. The cottage was cozy and breezy and super comfortable. The jungle and mountain views from the couch, the deck, and the yard were amazing. It rained a couple days and it was a wonderful place to spend a lazy morning or even an entire day just watching the jungle drama unfold. We strolled up and down the road enjoying all the views and massive variety of plants and flowers. We did make trips to local beaches and to town, and it was wonderful being so close to everything. Practically speaking, everything was smooth. Jeffrey was responsive to the couple questions we had. Koko the property manager stopped in to say hi and offer help if needed. The house has everything you need, from nice towels and cooking utensils to beach chairs, boogie boards, and coolers. The bedding was super comfy and the couch was great for reading. Not much else to say, I would absolutely do it again.

Worst stay ever. Our biggest regret of our vacation was booking this place. First of all, it was not clean, there was literally hair in the drawer with the eating utensils. And the towels had the most terrible odor, like so gross. And the location is TERRIBLE. It’s the most rainy area on the island, poured down the entire time. Rained so hard they closed the Hanalei bridge which means you’re stranded. We missed our luau because we were stuck on that side bored out of our minds in the pouring rain. Due to the rain we never got to enjoy the pool either. Also it’s not as advertised, there wasn’t any fruit to pick...We were wishing we had just stayed on the south side the entire time, we had a great time there, better weather, and most of the activities are located there. If you really want north side maybe princeville area just make sure you’re on the other side of the bridge. Waniha is a terrible terrible place to stay. We actually checked out a little early to a hotel on south side for a good last day when the bridge opened. Such a waste of our last few days just sitting at home in the rain & flash flooding :(

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Kauai. Tucked away in the mountains of a neighborhood in North Kauai this cute bungalow was a great stay. The only thing I would have liked was air conditioning at night and during the heat of the day, but honestly it wasnt bad at all. Overall, truly a magical experience. The star gazing at night was incredible!

This house is a juwel in the middle of a jungle!

The house was definitely off the beaten path and it was difficult dealing and planning around the road closures. I wish I would have known earlier on about the road closures because we almost missed a tour not knowing about them. The house itself was rustic and needed some love. I understand that it's an older house and in the jungle so you're going to get bugs but every morning we had ants on the counter event though there was no food. I would have liked to seen the house more stocked with basics of wine glasses, seasonings, coffee filters and cooking supplies. Also a few things weren't working while we were there or we couldn't figure them out; hot tub was out of service, the steam portion in the shower wasn't turning on, the water in the indoor shower didn't get very warm and the towels smelled of mold. I appreciated the owner notifying me of the road issues but feel we could have been notified sooner in case we wanted to cancel. The property manager was very nice and welcoming. The plants and foliage around the house were beautiful, to include the papaya tree. We enjoyed the outdoor shower but weren't able to fully enjoy outside due to the mosquitoes. Overall an ok place to stay for my liking but may be more appealing to others.

The property is exactly as described in the listing. Paradise on the North Shore. Jeffery is a great host and communicator. And the property manager, Koko is very welcoming and a great resource for information about the surrounding area. The deck and pool are great for sitting, soaking and taking in the beauty of the valley. We had an amazing week at Halewainiha. Please note there are a few one lane bridges on the way to the property, and that there is an etiquette for proceeding across the bridges when others are on the other side. It helps to familiarzie yourself with this before your arrvie.

Located in the middle of the rainforest, it is a quiet peaceful place. It’s different from other parts of Kauai and for us it was enough to stay for 2 days. Explore the northern coast and have this place as your base! They’re mosquitos but hello you’re in a jungle so just bring bug spray. Loved it and had an amazing time in the hot tub overlooking the beautiful waterfalls!

February 2018
First things first, we loved our stay here! The view was incredible, so peaceful and expansive. The hot tub was great for my pregnant wife as it didn't get super hot, so be aware of that if you're hoping for a boiling soak. Though be wary of the pool deck until it gets fixed, there are spots where rotten wood has gotten very spongy. One note is that the house isn't as secluded/remote as we had thought from the listing as there are two houses literally right next to this house. That being said, it is still private with all the foliage surrounding the property, so it's definitely still a great spot for a romantic getaway. OUR TIPS: If you're new to driving on the north side of the island, try to arrive at the house during the day. It was a little intimidating arriving at night with the one-lane bridges and pitch-black winding roads. The entrance is also not very clear. But give it a day and you'll fall in love with the island driving =) Jeff also provides great tips upon booking for things to do in the area, that was helpful. We hope to return! Mahalo!

We really enjoyed our week long stay at Jeffrey's property. The house sits on the edge of a hill overlooking the Wainiha river below and mountain range across from you. With the regular rainfall it is lush and tropical and just stunning to sit and enjoy - almost felt a little unreal - like you were in a movie set. There are numerous seating areas outside and we were often joined by the friendliest cat you've ever met named Bobby. The house is perfect for two people - it's open concept main floor is not huge but very functional and we made use of the well-stocked kitchen and the laundry facilities and the outdoor shower (and yes there is an indoor one). While there are neighbors on either side we never saw them and with the thick vegetation they really can't see you either. We found it very peaceful and relaxing. We were there in mid-November and did have a fair amount of rain which kept us from using the pool much and the hot tub was out of service but it wasn't a huge deal to us. We really loved the area - so many different beaches to choose from, you are close to Hanalei yet still a short drive away. If you book, Jeffrey provides you lot's of great information in advance to help plan your visit to the area. We did a day trip to Waimea Canyon which was great but would say if you plan to stay here you will most likely want to focus your activities on the north shore as you are somewhat removed from the south shore. All in all we felt very fortunate to have found this place - reminded us Canadians of being at the "cottage". We hope to be back one day!
