This unit was beautiful. It was spacious and very well-stocked with everything we needed. There were even puzzles and many lovely and interesting books to read!
Upon entering the flight of stairs was almost daunting but wasn’t a problem. Once at the top we were pleased to see how pretty our view was. The sunsets were awesome and photos turned out amazingly gorgeous, complete with palm trees and waves. Simply splendid.
Our family of six had well-enough space to sleep and relax in comfort. We are thoroughly spoiled going forward with family get-aways! Our thanksgiving weekend was wonderful as we shared our dinners with other families who stayed in other units nearby.
There were a couple of details to point out though. And only to serve as a mere side note for the owners of this incredible property. There were a few baking pans and a pot that were greasy. Not baked on food or anything; but, the grease was thick and pretty unsightly. We were sure to hand wash each utensil and dish before using anything.
One more detail to point out was that the floor was quite dirty which turned the soles of our feet black. We ended up mopping the walkways and wearing our house slippers.
All in all, we are very thankful and happy we were able to have our family staycation at this wonderful property! Five stars for sure!

This was the best trip of my life and having a beautiful, comfortable, clean place to call home for 4 nights with awesome pools one with the best view of the sunset each night and free parking made it even better. The kitchen was great, they even left us coffee! I love that they had a free washer in the unit as well. The location was great and easy to get to all our tours and drive to all the sites we wanted to visit while on the big island. Thank you for the guest book with all the tips especially on where to snorkel and for providing chair and snorkel gear. It was so cool to swim / snorkel with sea turtles. And I highly suggest the Manta Ray night snorkel tour with Manta Adventures to anyone!

I have stayed at six different locations on the dry side of the big island of Hawaii. This place has a lot of space, but very steep staircase when you come in. Not for the person with arthritic issues but my family is younger and did well. I would say the biggest issue I had was the temperature when we arrive was over 86°. I think I communicated well with the owner about the fact that the air conditioning should be turned on prior to arrival as given the size of the place being so large, and the fact that it has high vaulted ceilings, but it takes quite a long time to cool down. The location is close to a very nice shopping center and it’s halfway between the airport and Captain Cook snorkeling area. It’s about one hour from the Southpoint maybe an hour and 20 with gasoline. Overall, we had a great stay. It’s very spacious and does have a dryer and washer in the unit but the dryer does take a long time to dry. Overall happy about our stay. Has all the supplies you can imagine including towels, coolers beach, chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear. The gated facility is nice. The parking is ideally close to the front door. FYI the view you cannot see the sunset directly from your lanai. You have to go to the sunset or ocean pool in order to see the sunset or walk out straight ahead to the palm trees. You can see the water every morning from your lanai. The size is ideal for a family of 6. We had plenty of space. They had a nice games available at the house to play.

Great amenities-pool, walking path, tennis, ping pong and the location is central to all these things as well as a grocery store right up the road.
Just FYI, owner keeps the air off before arrival and we arrived late in the day so ladies, it was hot for sleeping IYKYK. Plan ahead. Haha.

The Kanaloa condos' location is great, and the actual condo is steps from the gated entrance. The unit has a full ocean view, but it's set back a little so side buildings limit the view somewhat. Check in was easy, the condo was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was exceptionally well-stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc.
We found 4 camping chairs, but only 1 Tommy Bahama-style low beach chair and 1 other low-to-the-ground uncomfortable beach chair. We didn't use the boogie boards, but they appeared to be fairly new. Be sure to note the policy of providing only 1 bath towel per guest. Also, note the description that mentions there are stairs (and the chair lift wasn't . It was great to have a washer/dryer in the unit, but the dryer takes forever to dry anything.
Overall, it's a good property, but could use some updating.

We loved it. They had everything you need, just pack your bag! Snorkels and boogie boards, beach umbrella, beach towels and chairs. Washer and dryer were very convenient. Every cooking appliances you would ever need. Loved the view from the ocean pool. Great sunsets. Quiet , beautiful view from the lanai. Loved eating breakfast out there.

This property was exactly as advertised. It was cleaned and well stocked with kitchen ware, linens, bath and beach towels. The view was amazing as well as the property amenities. The location is close enough to the main area of Kona but private and away from the constant tourist movement. We absolutely loved it and hope to return!

We had an amazing time at Kanaloa and the Solitude property. The owner had a great book with tips for favorite beaches, restaurants and adventures on the Big Island, and we loved all the beach gear that was provided. The beds were comfortable and the entire place was clean and well designed. We will be back!

We enjoyed our stay at Solitude! The kitchen is well supplied with every gadget you could possibly need. We were pleased to find an electric kettle. If I have a need for a three bedroom accommodation again, I’d definitely choose this property. Mahalo

We had a great time staying here. The view from the lanai was so beautiful and peaceful; every night was a great sunset. Our teenage daughter especially loved having her own space upstairs!
Some of our scheduled activities had to be cancelled because of the unusual weather and high surf, and being able to sit by the pools and including one where we could look at the ocean, was a great way to spend our time instead.
This was a great location for me and my husband and daughter to use as a home base to go snorkeling and exploring and provided a space for my parents (in their late-80s) to relax. On days we weren't exploring the area together (so much to see and do!) we were able to spend the evenings enjoying the beautiful view while having dinner and playing games together. A wonderful way and place to spend Chrismas!

Property was exactly as advertised. Ocean view from the balcony was incredible and the pools (especially the ocean view pool) were nice/beautiful as well. Denise the owner was a great communicator and was very gratuitous in modifying our reservations due to the covid cancellation of 2021 Ironman. I highly recommend this property.

Our family felt secure and spaced out in this condo. View was gorgeous - we enjoyed sitting on deck, with fan going, enjoying the ocean view. Neighborhood was great, pools and tennis courts were in great shape. Close to all we wanted to do in Kona. Ease of getting in and out with the key code was great. Kitchen was EXTREMELY well stocked.

We loved our stay at Solitude. The unit is a bit dated, but very clean and had all sorts of amenities that made our visit comfortable and easy. We appreciated the kitchen stocked with every dish and appliance we needed, nice coolers, the amenities of the compound (pools/grills/tennis courts), the provided soaps/shampoos/tissues/spices/books/games/playing cards, and the spaciousness of the place. The lanai made it even better - a great, private place to sit with coffee or wine and look out over the water.

Five stars! Great location. Beautiful view. Very Clean. Easy.Good communication with owner. Very safe. Gated community (they’ll give you a gate “key” but be sure to return it (we forgot and had to go back) Less than 5 minutes to good food store and several restaurants). Owner provided all essentials shampoo, laundry soap, beach towels etc. Good parking (be sure to leave space for the neighbor to get in/out of his car it’s a nice sized parking spot we parked a standard SUV.) Easy drive to everything you want to do in Kona area: we loved snorkeling and seeing turtles at tide pools near airport.

What a wonderful condo! Our group of 6 quickly felt at home in this gorgeous ocean view condo! We had everything we could need! The beds were super comfy, the rooms were spacious, the showers were great, the kitchen was wonderful, roomy and well stocked with dishes etc. We even used the grill right outside and enjoyed our dinner inside. Breakfast out on the lanai was wonderful! Numerous dolphin siting's not to mention the birds and mongoose! We hit the pools on property and hiked around the grounds. The condo had everything we could think of - chairs, umbrella, beach mats, beach towels, coolers and everything else. And let's not forget the masks, snorkels, goggles, fins, water shoes, boards and more! Everything was perfect! Room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable! we will definitely stay here again(if it is available)

The unit is large, comfortable and well appointed. We cooked in most nights after hunting and gathering at local markets. The large lanai was a perfect spot to enjoy our meal with an ocean view. There are three pools on site but we spent most of our time at the ocean pool watching the most amazing sunsets! The grounds are well maintained and check in was easy. This is a great place for families or three couples.

Property was located in a very nice gated community and has a fantastic ocean view. Condo was nice but slightly outdated. Furniture, appliances, bedding, and decor were old. However the owner's are very helpful and friendly! Overall we were happy and would stay there again.

We have just spent 9 glorious days at Solitude and didn't want to leave. The location was perfect, a short walk to shops beaches and coves and a short drive to Kona. There was everything you could possibly need provided and more. We only found beach chairs at end as didn't realise another storage on the lanai; wow there was so much in that storage you have put a lot of thought into what families need and things they didn't know needed (beach shoes for turtle seeking were invaluable over the rocks) thank you so much to Denise and Joanne who were both very helpful before and during our stay. We were there for the ironman event but if ever the opportunity to visit the Big Island again, I know where we would stay.

We just returned from our week stay at "Solitude". We all enjoyed our accommodations and property with 2 pools so much. The beds and furniture were very comfy; the kitchen, well equipped; and the deck a perfect gathering place. The loft afforded a separate area for the children. We used the snorkle gear, boogie boards and beach towels provided. One night we had a BBQ by pool and were rewarded with a beautiful sunset. Condo located near all that we wanted to explore.

We are a family of 5 adults who were fortunate enough to stay at Solitude in Kona. I rent through VRBO often and rarely have I encountered a property as well represented as Solitude. Renting with the owners was easy and the help and information they provided went well above and beyond just being helpful. Their suggestions made planning our vacation a breeze. The photos displayed on VRBO are accurate but we were amazed as to the roominess and spaciousness of the condo. There was plenty of space for the 5 of us. It was very clean and well stocked and organized with all supplies including snorkel equipment, coolers, beach chairs etc. We enjoyed most meals on the lanai overlooking the ocean and looking at the beautiful sunset.
I think what I enjoyed most about the property was the location. It is in such a quiet residential area. I don't think there is a better or more convenient spot on the island. It was wonderful to be close to Kona (10 min drive) but NOT in the busy tourist hub. We could enjoy everything in Kona and the surrounding areas with ease and then come back to our quiet private location by the ocean. We loved being able to walk to the beach, snorkelling, and even the grocery store. When we come back to Kona (and we will) we will stay at Solitude again. A big thank you to Denise and Joann for helping plan such a special holiday for all of us.
