Unit 1

Our DIRECT OCEANFRONT corner unit (#1) has its own beach only 27 steps away from the lanai (patio). This end unit (no one below you or above you) has added privacy including a quiet grassy area. Experience sunsets year round and let the sound of the waves relax you. From the lanai, the seaside bedroom, and even the upstairs shower, enjoy watching green turtles grazing on the rocks, the spinner dolphins leaping (typically mornings), and the humpback whales breaching or tail-slapping offshore (during the winter birthing/mating season).

We are directly on a salt & pepper beach. At the far north end, lots of tide pools with critters & petroglyphs. At the closer south end, at high tide if the waves are calm, then experienced & fit snorkelers (with a buddy, never alone!) can find a variety of sea life. However, if a novice and/or the seas are rougher, then the Kahaluu state beach (just ~ 5 to 10 minute walk north of our bay) is full of sea life and a safer location (with protective ancient seawall & lifeguards).

Both bedrooms have Cal King beds. The living room has a sofa and love seat, 42” HDTV, DVD/BluRay player, & audio system (with plug & USB ports). Free high-speed WiFi & telephone (local, U.S., Canada, Mexico, China, & EU). Fully equipped kitchen for simple or elegant meals alike. We provide lots of extras: shampoo & conditioner, laundry detergent, dish washing soap, beach towels, snorkel gear, cooler, boogie boards, & beach chairs, etc. This unit is surfside-immersed with extensive jalousie windows letting the sea breeze & sounds drift upon you as readily as the light of sunsets or moonbeams (ceiling fans; no air conditioning).

Location: Our townhouse is located in Keauhou-Kona Surf & Racquet Club, a private 16-acre gated community ~5 miles south of downtown Kona. The complex offers 3 pro-grade lighted tennis courts. The complex offers 3 pro-grade lighted tennis courts (with tennis pro access and a pickleball option; please remember to bring non-marking tennis court shoes), a large swimming pool, a volleyball court, BBQ pits & gas grills. The grounds are lush with beautiful flowers. We are also within walking distance to Kona Country Club for golf (reduced rates if a Surf & Racquet Club guest) and the Keauhou Shopping Center with grocery & drug stores, restaurants, a movie theater, & a walk-in medical clinic….plus on Saturday mornings, visit their farmer’s market with local produce, Kona coffee, flowers, & fish. Our location is convenient to explore the Big Island or just relax near the sea!

Lanai provided a beautiful view, steps to a nice little beach. BBQ's were close, and not busy. The tide pools nearby were interesting to explore. Shopping center up the hill was handy, with a great shave ice place. Condo was in a great location, we'd definitely stay again.

A really wonderful condo, one of the easiest and most pleasant stays I've ever had. Arrival was very easy. Parking is assigned so no problem with that. The condo was spotless and everything was in it's place. The instructions and information were through, I never needed to contact the owner about any problems. Location was perfect with Kahalu'u Beach Park a minute in one direction and a grocery store and shave ice shop a minute in the other direction. We had breakfast and dinner on the lanai every day, with the evenings accompanied by wonderful sunsets. We grilled fish from the grocery store's great selection next to the pool. We walked down and explored the beach and tide pools several times during low tide. The condo miraculously had everything I needed when I was looking for it, whether it was some spices for the grilled fish, a blender, some boogie boards, or coffee filters. It doesn't have AC, but with the ceilling fans and standing fans bringing in the ocean air, it works out fine. And falling asleep to the sound of the crashing surf in the master bedroom is wonderful. The only thing that made us unhappy was when we had to leave.

My family had a magical stay here. So close to the beach, a great location with everything we needed, friendly neighbors, the pool was a great option when we (our kids) needed a break from sandy beaches. We really loved it and would definitely come back again!

The place had a great ocean front view. The beach was less than 50 yards away, The beach is great for tide pooling and snorkeling, not so much for swimming. The place is does not have A/C. The first night was a little warm, but the remaining nights were cooler.

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 14 and 16 year old teens) had a really great stay! We absolutely loved the amazing ocean front views, the sunset views, the meals on the lanai, the well appointed kitchen and washer/dryer, the relaxing sounds of the waves, the well thought out layout of the unit (2 full bathrooms is so appreciated when travelling with teens), the tide pools with turtles/sea urchins/sea cucumbers/other sea life, the free pickleball courts, the pingpong, the pool, the volleyball area and the attentive and responsive manager Maria. The only minor downside was that the majority of the Kahaluu beach park next door was closed for construction but we couldn't hear the noise of that from the unit and we were able to enjoy the rockier tide pool area of the park immediately next to our unit and then an 8 min walk away (on shoulder of road rather than through the beautiful park paths due to construction) was the other area of the beach park that was also open with a more sandy area to sit and some of the best snorkelling we've every had. It looks like most of the construction is nearly done so hopefully that won't be an issue soon but even the areas that looked done we still all closed off. The only other minor thing was that a lot of the complimentary beach chairs/toys/sporting equipment etc could do with an update (suggest maybe adding 2 more chairs for a family of 4, some pickleball paddles and a volleyball, all of which we were able to borrow from the unit my parents rented in the same complex) as some of the items were really showing their age but they were complimentary for use so we were happy to have them. I notice another reviewer said it was hot in the unit but we had very hot weather (28-30 Celcius) and we found the unit very cool and comfortable by simply opening all the Jalousie slatted windows (all screened so no bugs) and having the ceiling fans on to create a nice through draft. Thanks for such a great stay!!

Very pretty location - great views from the downstairs lanai, main upstairs bedroom and bathroom of the cove where on last day yellow fish surfed the waves in their hundreds - no need for snorkeling! Kitchen fully stocked in a very cute smallish townhouse. No dining room or kitchen bar; only outside lanai patio dining set - bring or buy bug spray for evenings. Daytimes have minimal bugs in December, more at night. Close to Longs and restaurants up the road. Very close to one of best snorkeling beaches in Hawaii.

I look forward to my next visit. A few steps from the lanai and you are on the beach watching yellow tang play in the waves crashing just off shore. If you are lucky, the green sea turtles munch on the moss growing on the lava rocks and play in the tide pools. A short distance up the beach from the resort are heritage sites; a beautiful place to sit and meditate, watch the sun go down, enjoy your morning coffee. This place is not only convenient and a short trolley ride to the heart of downtown Kailua Kona, it has easy access to one of the best snorkel beaches only 1/4 mile walk. You can park your car, relax, and forget what day and time it is. The sunsets on the horizon just outside the window are spectacular. We were fortunate to see a full blood moon set! The sounds of waves crashing is the music you hear as you drift off to sleep. The resort has a nice swimming pool , pickle ball, tennis courts, recreation area, grills so if you decide to never leave the resort and just relax you are at the right place. Just a short walk up the hill is a small shopping center with a grocery store, drug store, restaurants, coffee shop, and more. You will not want to leave!

This is the third or fourth time we have stayed at this resort. It has always been a good time. The pool is large by most resort standards and there’s a good area for small children in it. The unit itself is perfect for two people (maybe for four). It was very clean and easy to keep that way. It was well equipped from the kitchen to the laundry facility. Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

The view was beautiful and the hostess was accommodating. This property has no air conditioning and even with the windows wide open, the trade winds blowing through and the many fans that were provided - the unit was uncomfortably hot especially in the evening and nights we stayed there. Extended family rented other units within this same complex. Their updated, air conditioned units were more affordable and comfortable.

We were thrilled with beach access and snorkeling steps from our lanai! Lots of reef fish and urchin. Loved listening to waves crashing at night and enjoyed ocean breeze and sunsets. Check-in instructions were very clear. Property and amenities were nice. Easy access to restaurants and tourism in South Kona.

I have stayed at a few different places at Kona Surf and Racquet but the experience was amazing this time. We were there during a crazy time and the level of communication was as good as it gets. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip.

If I could give the location more than 5 stars... I 100% would! The condo is steps from a beautiful beach with really neat tide pools and we saw several sea turtles feeding in the mornings. We also saw dolphins a couple times. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. There is a farmers market a couple minutes drive. We enjoyed our stay!

Great time perfect location

May 2022
Sits on lava shore with massive tide pools that change with the tides… yellow tangs and green sea turtles abound. Snorkeling area is about a 5 minute walk towards town. Shopping and a good grocery store 5 minutes the other direction. Two decent bedrooms and an adequate kitchen. Excellent property.

The location is great, the property manager is excellent and I wont hesitate to come back again. I wish the complex had a couple more amenities, its really just a pool, 3 tennis courts and a ping table with some covered tables. Everything you need is a couple minutes away. For the property, it’s truly a treat and you could tell a lot of thought went into it. I especially liked the window from the kitchen to the patio.

Unit is exactly as pictured in photos. Nicely furnished with everything you need. Great ocean front location, just far enough outside of town to be quiet but close enough to be able to see all the sites, sounds and amenities. Very convenient to shopping, food and gas. Even was able to see a few whales during our visit from the patio. Would definitely stay here again

Well and thoughtfully equipped, great location, clear instructions and responsive host. Interior a bit tired, needs a refresh. Would gladly come back, very relaxing to hear the gentle ocean waves, and saw green sea turtles at the beach and whale breaching at sunset!

Best place we stayed in Hawaii! The place offered much more than expected. Best part was sitting outside watching the ocean and falling asleep to the sounds of the waves later. I’ve never slept better. The place also offered ever beach accessory you would need. Highly recommend!

Very nice townhome, complex and pool were beautiful. Beach was very close with tidepooling at low tide and some experienced snorkeling if waves were not to bad at high tide. Able to dunk into the ocean in a few places, and then go shower by the pool and jump in. Roar of the ocean while you sleep, and we saw many Humpback Whales off shore, jumping, spouting and slapping tails. Would definitely stay there again.

We all had an amazing stay. The soothing sounds of the waves and beautiful views from multiple rooms in the condo made for a lovely stay. The location is a short driving distance from grocery stores and restaurants. Their private resident beach made for a nice morning and sunset evening walk. Maria, our person of contact for the property was a great communicator and answered all our questions promptly when asked. We would love to stay at this property again!

This townhouse had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The setting is beautiful. The black sand beach is right out the door. A perfect place for exploring tide pools and watching the sunset. It’s also in close proximity to some of the best snorkeling and boogie boarding beaches on the Big Island. Our family had a wonderful time.

Still can't believe how great of a find this was. Amazing view and great location. I loved watching all the people staying in other units walk past our front door to go sit on the adjacent salt and pepper beach to watch the sunset. All we had to do was walk out onto the lanai! The unit was equipped with everything we needed and more, and served as a great starting point for all the places we wanted to go and all the things we wanted to do. Can't wait to return.

Amazing waves to sleep by! View was wonderful. Bed was comfy. Kitchen has everything you need. We think parking spot is unit number and not the spot “next to the unit” - that was not clear. We used the pool and it was an excellent bonus. If you are active you can walk to snorkeling and shopping / dining. Suggest adding a clothesline to the lanai for wet towels and swimsuits. Get water shoes if you plan to swim in the ocean in front of the condo.

Wonderful place, perfect for what we needed. Was a little worried about not having A/C but it was never an issue alwatsva breeze coming through the townhomes and we were hardly inside anyways. Complex got a little busy the second week but thats ok. We will stay again next time we come to the big island

The location and views made this an outstanding location for our family! Property manager was very helpful and flexible with the multiple changes we had to make due to COVID. Bedrooms were comfortable and two full bathrooms made getting out the door each day more efficient. I loved hearing the sound of the surf and feel the ocean breezes at night and eating breakfast on the lanai. Quiet community and very family friendly!

Me and my buddies couldn't have been happier... this place was in a perfect location and close to everything. The private beach was perfect for our morning coffee walks and for watching the beautiful sunsets.the house was very clean and had pretty much everything you could need for fun in the sun. I would definitely stay here again....

The condo was spotless. It is on the water, but it's a lava beach, not a sand beach. Terrific sunsets. But we didn't swim in back of the condo. There are sand beaches quite close. La' Aloa always had parking available and was delightful--it's a small beach about a mile north. The pool is very nice, and never had more than a few people in it. The condo was very nice, and we had a wonderful time. Thank you!
