We absolutely loved our stay in the condo! The lanai was exceptional, and we spent many hours lounging, watching the ocean and enjoying the surfers and wildlife. The unit had plenty of room with all the extras needed to make our vacation comfortable and fun. Air conditioning was quiet and worked well. Best of all was the wonderful communication and information from the hosts. They really went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of and had a great vacation. Wonderful place! This condo is right on the ocean, and we spent much of our time out on the lanai where we watched turtles, surfers, boats, parasailers, cruise ships, and the most beautiful sunsets. The condo is equipped with everything one would need during their stay. We found the beds to be comfortable, and the living area had very comfortable furniture. The owners were great with lots of communication, and immediately answered any questions that we had. We highly recommend this place, and would definitely stay there again!

Jim Sommers, owner of our condo is an outstanding communicator. He provided lots of useful information about the condo and surrounding area. The condo was clean and well appointed. The location, right on the ocean is incredible. We saw a sea turtle from our lanai. This condo is a short walk to town and near lots of restaurants and attractions. Our friends who stayed a couple of miles away, were envious of our premier location near the island’s restaurants and evening attractions. Just a beautiful trip overall.

This was our first time to the big island and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Waking up to the waves just feet from the lanai was the best. And watching whales and all the ocean activities going on you really don’t need to leave this condo. This condo is so close to Kona it makes it so easy to go out for dinner, or just stroll through town. We also appreciated all the helpful information that was provided to us by Jim. We’re hoping to come back for a longer stay to explore the rest of the island.

We spent 9 nights at the condo over Christmas- 2 adults and our two young adult kids. We couldn’t ask for a better location. Best view ever, walking distance to town, good parking and lots of amenities in the condo (beach gear, fully equipped kitchen etc.). We had a wonderful time at the Kona Reef condo! The condo felt much larger than the listing photos showed and there was plenty of room for 4 adults. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable (beds and temperature). The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed many dinners on the patio.

We had a wonderful time in Kailua Kona!! Previously we had been to all the other islands, but neither of us had been to the Big Island. We're so glad we got to experience it.
This condo is perfectly located! It is a close walk to town, very quiet and peaceful, and best of all was the spectacular view from the lani. Absolutely stunning!! It was a perfect place for morning coffee, an afternoon nap, to read a good book, happy hour and to watch the sunset.
The condo is comfortable with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and air conditioning which we appreciated a lot!
The only thing that was a bit disappointing is that the condo is older and is showing wear and tear which we really didn't get from the on line description. The windows are getting a bit rusty, I noticed bits of plaster coming off the wall in the bathroom, there were a few ants running around daily on the kitchen counter and bathroom, etc. It didn't take away from our fantastic stay, but if you are looking for a shiny, new, upgraded condo with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, this is not the place...which you can tell by the photos. Still, it is a lovely place that we enjoyed a lot!!
Jim and Nancy are WONDERFUL hosts!! They were available by text or phone all the time. Just super accommodating!
There is a "secluded" lagoon just down the street from the condo which we enjoyed daily. We also took a small van 12 hour island tour and a small boat 3 stop snorkel tour, both fantastic!

We were in Jim & Nancy’s unit for 2 weeks. We’ve stayed in many vacation rentals and Jim is far & away the best host we have ever encountered. He has excellent communication skills & is very open to suggestions.
Previous guests had identified an issue with the dryer. Jim offered up creative solutions in the event that it couldn’t be fixed right away. We were very impressed with his problem solving abilities. Fortunately the issue was resolved quickly.
Jim & Nancy have been gradually updating the unit. The investments they have made, such as comfortable beds, air conditioning and some high end appliances, show how they prioritize their guests’ comfort. Jim has also indicated that they keep the potential impact on rates in mind when they plan for improvements.
We’ve stayed at the Kona Reef many time before and love the development. This unit is now my favourite unit because of its owners.

The views from the lanai are breathtaking!! It was so fun to watch the endless stream of surfers & boogie boarders all day long! The condo is very homey & we had an incredible week! Jim is super responsive, very friendly, and provided many interesting facts and local recommendations! He is available 24/7 and encouraged us to contact him at anytime about anything. The kitchen is very well stocked & had a super strong blender that made excellent icy smooth blended drinks! They had two of the most highly rated travel guidebooks for this island which was really helpful. The backpack style beach chairs, beach umbrella, and rolling cooler were awesome!! We had the best week at this condo!!

This property won't disappoint. It has perhaps one of the best views on the island, a corner unit with north and south oceanfront views, just steps from the water. Fantastic sunsets every night.
Its location is central, allowing easy navigation to destinations around the island. While I recommend renting a car to reach other places, this unit is close to Kileau-Kona downtown, so you can walk to great waterfront entertainment and shopping spots.
Unit is clean, comfortable and the property owner is very responsive, while providing good information upfront. Truly enjoyed our stay and can recommend it highly.

Our family of 5 spent one awesome week in this unit in July. It is a top floor corner unit and has amazing views in every direction. It is clean and the sounds of the ocean are so refreshingly peaceful. It is very easy access to many beaches, restaurants and other sites of interest in Kona. Jim provided great insights about things to do, both in his written instructions as well as during several phone conversations and texts. Frankly, this was the best VRBO experience that we have ever had and we will definitely stay here again when we return to Hawaii!

We considered this trip to be the honeymoon we never had as well as our upcoming 45th wedding anniversary celebration. As hoped for, Jim and Nancy's property turned out to be the absolute perfect location for these special occasions.
The location is second to none. The view from the comfortable and spacious lanai is stunning. We spent many hours there enjoying the expansive view of the Pacific and listening to the ever present surf. Prior to our arrival we had made plans to go hiking and snorkeling but unanticipated health issues required us to scale back on those plans considerably. Fortunately, our superb location more than made up for this necessary adjustment to our plans. The condo is well equipped and very comfortable. Having AC throughout was extremely welcomed by these Oregonians due to the predominant heat and humidity. We needed a soft mattress and the full size in bedroom 2 met our needs just fine. In addition to the normal amenities, extra items provided like the quality binoculars, a wheeled cooler for ferrying groceries, beach chairs and mats, and - though not used - a variety of water sports gear (fins/masks/snorkels, boogie boards) made our experience all the more enjoyable.
We appreciated Jim’s communication with us throughout the process. Information provided about the area and its amenities was especially helpful. Our host's outstanding accommodations, communication, and concerns for our comfort made our perfect Hawaiian getaway a reality!

Kona Reef is perfectly located for walking into Kona for a morning coffee or afternoon Mai Tai. The condo has a full ocean front view with bonus views over the beach next door and enjoys morning sunrises. It is well equipped and has excellent AC with controls in each bedroom. Hours spent on the lanai overlooking the reef. Ample parking in the condo unit and a great back street to walk to town. Spa, pool and bbq area all well kept. I can see why the hosts are super hosts. They were very pleasant and provided all the things that make for an easy stay. There are all the necessities, like garbage bags and dish detergent, and extras like beach chairs, beach towels, and snorkeling gear. We only used the master bedroom, and the bed was comfortable. The pool and hot tub area are very nice and even get some shade in the afternoon. The location cannot be beat, you can lounge on the beach, or walk to all things downtown Kona - with great choices for dinner and drinks nearby. The sunsets and moonlight dancing on the surf made it hard to want to leave the lanai. You will love it!

Does it get any better than that? The view (large ocean facing lanai AND a huge window in the owners’ suite) was amazing. The home is very nicely furnished and decorated as an island home should be. We had everything we needed and much more.
The sunset views are spectacular and completely unobstructed.
Snorkeling, beach combing, swimming and boogie boarding are all right there, feet away from the facility. (Bring your own reef shoes if you want to enter along the rocky shore).
We would stay in this air conditioned well-equipped 3rd story unit again and again.

The condo was perfect for my wife and I. We were celebrating our second round at being empty nesters due to our friend Covid-19 bringing all our kids back home for almost two years.
Jim & Nancy’s place was exactly what we needed. I would say it’s a 3* condo complex and a 3.5* furnished apartment.
If you are looking for posh, then you won’t be happy with this condo or anywhere in Kona.
The charm of both is it takes you back. It brought back memories of vacationing with my family when I was younger.
The reason I’m giving a 5 star is the location and the VIEW. When you’re on the lanai, you almost feel like you’re hanging over the water.
There is no better place to watch a sunset in Kona.
As far as location, there is a small beach where you (not me) and your wife can do yoga in the morning 8:00. And people are surfing and boarding right in front of the lanai all day.
We really enjoyed our time and hope when we return in a couple years, the condo looks the exact same.

This was an absolutely perfect rental for us! It was clean, comfortable, in good repair, and has a fantastic view of the ocean. The location was close to the Kailua shopping and restaurant area and was a good home base for our other big island adventures. My husband, mother-in-law, and I stayed at this beautiful condo the beginning of the year. I wish I was able to include the view we had- they were breath-taking! The condo owner was AMAZING! Our stay can be summarized succinctly: This was our third visit here, and we've scheduled our fourth.
The things that bring us back: First, location...we can walk to Ali'i Drive's many restaurants and shops. Second, location...it's smack on the shore, and our time in the condo is spent listening to the waves washing over the rocks below. The owners maintained a comfortable gem of an apartment. The attention to detail has everything you need to have a comfortable, active stay in Kailua Kona. From their CD collection with music either inside or on the lanai adds that special Island Aloha.
The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals or making a quick bite. Comfort and quality come to mind when staying in the unit, not to mention the awesome views of Honi Beach.

We loved our stay in Kona. We frequently go to Kona and this place is one of the best. The landlord was great to work with and gave us a really late check out which was wonderful for a late flight.

This is a superb condo in the Kona-Kailua area. It is located just south of the town which is within walking distance. The location could not be better. Right on the ocean with breathtaking views. We loved having coffee in the morning out on the lanai enjoying the magnificent view. Ocean waves were right below us. Sunsets were spectacular. One could not ask for a better location.
The condo inside has been updated and had many amenities. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses, pots, pans, silverware, etc. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms were spotless. Pool area was very well maintained and very clean.
The owner is a gem as he communicates very well and sent us several messages about not only the condo, but the general procedure to travel to Hawaii now using the Hawaii Safe Travels website. He also provides several handouts which include maps, and suggestions for dining and sights to see. The dining section was right on as we ate at his recommendations and had some fantastic meals.
We highly recommend this condo unit for a great vacation stay on the Big Island.

The condo is top floor right on the ocean with the reef in front and the park/beach on the left. The views are all perfect. My wife got one of those iconic tropical sunset pictures off the lanai one evening. We had no rental car, but the village with dining and shopping was close enough that we could walk.

So glad we found the Sommers unit at Kona Reef! This unit is very close to the town of Kona and a good little walk to all the town offers. We actually extended our stay and Jim was fantastic to work with on that!
The lanai, kitchen and den were our favorite parts of the unit, and the views from the corner unit can’t be beat!
The location is right on the ocean, but keep in mind this is a rocky coast and very active surf - not a typical sandy beach to spend the day sunbathing. We had no luck with the wifi in the unit, but my tech heavy user family was able to get everything from their devices they needed with their unlimited roaming packages.
All in all we had a fantastic week and would gladly stay here again!

It is an excellent location with beach and waves provided all the necessary scenery. Pool area with grills is also very nice. Easy walk to town. Jim was very responsive and a pleasure to deal with and gave us many pointers. Condo has all the basics in terms of dishes which is nice. It could have use basic condiments such as salt, pepper and coffee filters. Also perhaps is needed a big container to pick up filtered water from Walmart as tap water doesn’t have the best “flavor”. Other condos we have rented on the island had these. Of course we stocked those up at Walmart but it does require an extra step and is a bit inefficient.

You can almost reach out and touch the surf from the lanai. Every room has a sweeping ocean view. Just a quick walk to restaurants and shops. The owners, who are readily accessible, make sure everything is perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation.

The owner was an incredible host who shared terrific advice about fun things to do, and seemed to personally enjoy all the good times we were having. He even drew maps to special, little known beaches where sea turtles basked! The view from the condo, with its wrap-around windows, is even better than the photos, better than we imagined! The lanai IS the best place to have a drink, to view the sunset, to watch surfers and boogie boarders. The condo's amenities made everything very comfortable for us. Sea turtles fed in the ponds in the lava in front of the condo. It is an easy, beautiful walk into the town of Kona, so restaurants, bars, shops, and even the new Catholic church are just a short walk away, and right on the ocean or very close. A short or long drive south or north are wonderful beaches for boogie boarding, snorkeling, or sun bathing. We used the pool and hot tub at the resort daily too. One of the very best parts was being surrounded by the sound of ocean waves, day and night! We two couples, lifelong friends, definitely look forward to returning for another reunion.

Location,location,location. The views from this penthouse condo have all you would expect. Beach, surfers, lava and palm trees of course. Sunsets are beautiful. Turtles feeding in ocean by condo. Whales flipping a little ways out. It is Kona at its best! Inside the condo has been furnished nice and kept up with care. The owners have also been more than accommodating and attentive. We had a wonderful stay at this centrally-located and well-appointed condo with a million-dollar view! This is indeed the best unit in the Kona Reef complex, a corner unit (overlooking the beach next door) on the top floor. Centrally-located in Kona, we were able to easily walk to restaurants, shops and the pier. The complex pool is oceanside and a great place to relax after a hot day hiking or exploring Volcano National Park. The condo itself is perfectly appointed, with everything we could have needed to make our stay on the island more enjoyable - snorkling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas, and even a rolling cooler. The air conditioning is top notch, and every room - even the lanai - has a ceiling fan. Comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, and two full bathrooms made us feel like we were right at home. And owners Jim and Nancy could not have been more helpful, offering lots of tips on their favorite activities, beaches, restaurants, shops, and trivia about local residents. We hope to come back to this wonderful place soon!

As frequent visitors to the Hawaiian Islands, my family and I have successfully rented wonderful condos owned by fabulous folks who properly maintain their piece of paradise. This top floor unit is everything that Jim and Nancy describe: picture perfect ocean front views with the sounds of the surf serenading in the background. With climate controlled central a/c units and ceiling fans, we were always very comfortable. The underground parking is a plus as it keeps your car cool. Would definitely recommend this unit and the owners to help make your Big Island Kona vacation special. We are a family of four: myself, my husband, 19 year old son and 16 year old daughter. The sofa bed in the living room is very comfortable. I especially enjoyed taking turns sleeping on it as it reminded me of my earlier years living in a Manhattan apartment! (Except I didn't have the Pacific to rock me to sleep...)

Great owners. Awesome corner unit. Our group was 5 adults. Queen bed in master, Double bed in 2nd bedroom, Sleeper sofa in living area. Double bed in 2nd bedroom was a tight fit for two daughters in their 20's. If you have a solo adult or two young children that double bed is okay. Recommend owner put a queen or two single beds in 2nd bedroom.
Again awesome owners. Absolutely recommend. My thoughts: unit for 4 adults or two adults and 4 small kids?
Get groceries at Costco on way to unit if you have a membership. Huggo's on the rocks was our favorite restaurant. Huggo's is just a couple hundred meters from condo towards town on the water. See Mt kilouea at sunset. Night Manta Ray Dive with Big Island Divers.

We are really picky about accommodations, and this unit is our new favorite condo in Kona. It is RIGHT on the ocean, so sitting on the lanai and reading, or drinking, or eating, is like heaven on Earth. The condo itself is small but very well organized; and because it is a corner unit, both bedrooms face the beach/park/ocean as well. We particularly liked the selection of Hawaiian music and the ability to play our Hawaiian music via bluetooth from my phone. There are even speakers on the lanai! The kitchen is well-stocked, we never needed something that wasn't there, and we really enjoyed going down to the pool area to grill a steak and sit and watch the sun set. Does this sound great to you? It is! We can't wait to go back.

We were 2 couples sharing the condo. We couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay in this unit at Kona Reef. The view was amazing. Sunsets that were breathtaking, Dolphins swimming and jumping, body boarders riding the waves and watching the fish (lots of yellow tang) from the balcony. The beds were plenty comfortable and the kitchen well stocked with cookware. 2 bathrooms so we didn't have to share was essential. The 2nd bedroom has only a double bed, but there isn't room for anything bigger. We managed fine. Washer/dryer was very helpful. We walked into Kailua; it was nice not to have to find/pay for parking. The owners were great and checked on us via email to make sure everything was good. I've recommended the unit to several people. We would definitely stay here again.

Jim &Nancy's condo is totally equipped with everything we needed to make our 2016 holiday perfect .We loved having our morning coffee on the Lanai watching dolphins . Any little issue we had Jim was just a call away to assist us (Thank You Jim for being so accessible)We have rented condos before and the owners were not helpful at all ,pleasure to find owners that care about their renters .Our evenings were spent in the Bar-B-Que (grilling) area have dinner .Close walk to town was a pleasure as well . There are so many adventures to take in Kona Looks like we will be returning and we will definitely be staying in this condo unit again . We would most definitely recommend this unit to everyone. This condo complex was the cleanest and very well maintained,and any of the staff we had a chance to meet was helpful and very friendly
