Great location on Kona. Gave stayed at the Kona Reef several times.
This particular unit needs updating. Linens and towels need to be replaced. Would be nice to have some additional kitchen supplies. Like actual glass wine glasses, not metal. There are only two of most items. Nothing matches if you want to invite a friend or entertain.

I cannot say enough about this condominium, the view and the complex. I highly recommend staying here! The condo is in beautiful condition. It is extremely clean and has everything you need and more. Beach chairs are newer and in great shape. There is a Beach right next to this beautiful condominium complex. The saltwater pool at the complex is excellent. Sitting on the lanai watching the surfers hearing the waves is an unbelievable gift. The view is totally unobstructed of the ocean. I loved being in the kitchen looking out across the living room to the ocean. From the complex, it is a easy five minute stroll or less into town I cannot wait to stay here again.

We had an excellent time at the Kona Reef! Only had a short 3 night stay - but accommodations were exactly as represented in the listing. Location is very convenient to multiple restaurants and shopping! Ocean front lanai and the view were awesome. Condo is in a quiet location within the resort. Highly recommend! Parking can be a bit confusing as there are a couple different spots within the location to park and multiple cars were covered and appear to be blocked in. But a message to the host who quickly responded cleared up the confusion. Overall, excellent communication from the host with comprehensive arrival and departure instructions!

My husband and I truly loved our stay at the Kona Reef. There was terrific parking and it was in walking distance to everything in Kona. The salt water pool was lovely and the ocean views were amazing. We slept with the sliding glass door open and the sound of the ocean. We never really turned the air conditioner on, the ocean breezes were so lovely. If I get the opportunity to visit Kona again, I will definitely try to stay there again!

We booked this condo a month prior to our trip. So, for the location, the cleanliness, and oceanfront...we can't complain. This condo has a great view and is within a walkable distance of restaurants and shops. We didn't experience any issues during our stay. With that said, we found the condo to be very basic (minimal furniture, comfort, kitchen utensils, only one trash bag for 7 nights, etc.). This jived with several of the negative reviews we read. I don't think it's the end of the world, but it wasn't ideal. We would recommend this condo, we just may choose another one next time.

For something in this price range, I would have expected the kitchen to be better equipped. Bathroom had no soap. AC unit in main room, bedroom can be warm.

Did not receive my checkin code until 9 Pm and it’s supposed to be a 4 o’clock check in, washing machine is only plumbed to cold water and the dryer is programmed to the lowest heat setting so we had to dry our clothes 4 or 5 times . The unit was very clean and the view is amazing . We would absolutely stay again .

The condo was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a 2 week stay. It even had a blender so we could have a smoothie every morning!
The air conditioner in the living room was helpful for those hot afternoons but we only needed it for a short time; with the ceiling fans and the bedroom windows and door(s) open, there was a beautiful breeze. The wooden window covers were amazing and very helpful to keep the condo cool in the afternoons.
This condo was a 5 minute walk into town where we went to restaurants and shops on most days.

The unit was very clean and had a beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony. The complex was mostly quiet and everyone was very friendly. The location is great. Walking into town for restaurants, shopping etc. To walk into town, walk down the access road and follow it past Hugo's and On the Rocks. Much easier than walking on the highway.

Nice condo in a great location, we were able to walk to downtown Kailua in just a few minutes. Condo was clean well maintained. Our only negative would be the Kitchen cooking and eating utensils dishes pans etc. were the bare minimum required to cook. These items need to be upgraded and improved. Everything else was great we had a pleasant stay in Kailua- Kona.

Very nice condo unit. We have stayed in this building before but this unit was much nicer than the previous one we stayed in. Furniture and bed were very comfortable and the unit was very clean. The view is very good from this unit and is ocean front. The air conditioner worked fine but was loud. The kitchen was not very well supplied with service ware such as glasses, plates, etc. There were only two very tall glasses, two very large glasses neither were suitable for evening cocktails, and two plastic glasses. There were two metal wine glasses but no glass wine glasses. The remaining dishes were similarly sparse. There were no pans for oven use. Only 2 garbage bags for an 8 day stay. We requested an early check in but we were told we could not get in much earlier than 4:00 but the cleaning service would call us. They never did and the unit was ready prior to 4:00. I called the owner at 4:00 and got the code to get in. On check out you need to not only clean out the fridge which is understandable but also make sure all dishes and towels are washed and put away and have the towels from that day in the washer and started prior to leaving. Seems a bit overbearing considering the large cleaning and service fee of 457.00 for 8 days!!!

This is a nice one-bedroom with great ocean-front views within a mile of the main shopping district in the area. The unit is on the first floor in an area that is relatively dark. When we arrived, the light next to the door of the unit was out, and it was impossible to see the keypad to access the place. We used our phone to light up the keypad, contacted the owner, and one of two bulbs was replaced the next day. However, the light is a two-bulb unit, and the area is very dark, so both bulbs should have been replaced. Seeing the keypad continued to be a problem.
The unit includes a washer and dryer. However, when we tried to use the washer it did not work. Upon contacting the owner, a person came to try to fix it. After trying various settings, she told us that the washer only works on a cold, middle size setting and nothing else. After that, we were able to do laundry, but only on that one setting.
Given the cost, the lights and appliances should all be in good working order and checked regularly.

We stayed at Kona Reef condo A14 for 5 days in Aug. Condo was VERY clean and had everything we needed including 2 boogie boards, 2 beach chairs, umbrella and ice chest. Pool temp was perfect not very many people at the pool while we were there. Plenty of parking. Short walk to town. Small beach beside condo water seemed rough, better beaches nearby though. We really enjoyed our stay.

We were very happy with our stay at this property. After some initial challenges finding the unit I could not have been happier with the location and amenities. The availability of boogie boards, chairs, and an umbrella was awesome and just waking up to the waves right outside the balcony every morning was perfect. The only minor problem is that the bedroom has glass louvers for windows as opposed to a window you can open and close. The problem with this is that the birds gather in the courtyard starting at 4 AM and make a lot of noise so you cannot close the windows to shut it out. No doubt that a pair of earplugs would fix his problem. Overall, a great property, great location, and for a great price relative to what you would pay for other places in Hawaii.

Great location right on the shore. Also close to main restaurant row in Kona so easy walk if you want to eat out. Unit was good size for the two of us and well kept. Really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the big waves from the storm that has passed south and the surfers and boarders. Definitely would stay again!

I have stayed in a number of places in Kailua-Kona, and this was perfect for a solo trip. Close enough to easily walk into town, which I did every day. A couple of miles to one of the beat snorkeling beaches. And the unit was- as described and pictured- right at ocean front! Not across the street, or a distant unit in a generally beachside complex. The host was amazing, the unit had everything needed for kitchen or for beach. The bedroom got a bit warm and is further from the ocean, but I expected that based on other reviews and it was fine. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We enjoyed our stay at the Kona Reef facilities and can recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in the Kona area. Great ocean view apartment with good amenities and very close proximity to the downtown area (walking distance). There's a few small things that can be improved such as
1. AC only in the living room and only a small ceiling fan in the bedroom (it gets very hot in Kona and it would've been nice to be able to cool the bed room prior to going to bed)
2. The in-unit washer is not working well. We had to restart the program multiple times over many days due to some either power or water supply issue. Frankly, for the amount of money we paid I expected these to just work especially since the unit had pretty strict 'no more than last day laundry' requirements
3. Soap provided but no Shampoo

This condo is almost perfect. Here’s what is perfect. This condos location is less than an 8 minute walk from the middle of all the great restaurants and shops in town. That means you save $13 an hour on parking fees!! The condo is immaculately clean, great job to the cleaning crew. The complex is safe, older, easy parking, has a great pool, and several BBQ’s. It is right next to a small sandy beach, great for soaking up the sunshine. There is also a grass area to enjoy, right in front of the ocean. We were able to sit on our Lanai and watch whales swim by.
Here’s what’s not perfect. The king bed. It has a 3 inch mattress topper on it, which makes it way to soft. The cushion absorbs the heat, so the bed gets hot at night. The sheets seem to big and get bunched up, even though they are strapped down. The owner purchased a new bed in 2021. That’s great, but it’s the other stuff that make the bed uncomfortable. There are two hallway lights, outside the unit that are on all night. There are no curtains covering the window. The room stays light all night long. All the towels are thin and need replacing. More than 2 small beach towels in the unit, would be great. You go to the beach and your towels are full of sand and wet, can’t take those to the pool. A few more place settings of plates and silverware so you could use the dishwasher and not run out of utensils. More than four would be beneficial. When the bathroom sink water is running, there is a terrible smell that comes up from the sink.
This unit is amazing and it could be perfect with just a few upgrades. I’ve seen the same issues mentioned in other reviews. Hope the owner sees this and wants to make a few changes for the guests comfort and pleasure

This is an excellent beachfront property in an incredible setting, where the pleasing sound and view of the surf is just a few feet in front of you, 24/7.
Along with offering amenities everyone else has - such as beds, electricity and running water - the owner provides numerous additional, thoughtful amenities we valued, including air conditioning (which is appreciated given the western exposure), pub-height chairs on the balcony so we could easily see the awesome scenery over the railing (including beautiful, romantic sunsets every night), high-quality binoculars (which helped us see whales and many turtles), cable tv in the bedroom (along with cable tv in the living area), two nice beach chairs & boogie boards we were happy to use at Hapuna Beach, a small cooler (perfect for a holding a few cold drinks and a sub sandwich for our day at the beach), a first-aid kit that was needed a couple times during our stay, and ceiling fans that helped circulate the cool air.
This condo has been nicely updated, including a tile floor, stone counters, new plumbing fixtures, and an updated bathroom. We had much more than we expected at the condo, making it thoroughly enjoyable.
The condo complex offers several gas grills, which were very clean and easy to use, along with a nice hot tub, pool, and tables and chairs that were never too crowded to use.
NET: If you're reading this and still considering other condos or properties to rent in Kona, just stop already and rent this one. You will be pleased.

The unit was exceptionally clean, the house rules were easy to comply with, and communication was great.
The unit is about a 10 min walk along busy Ali’i Drive to restaurants and shopping. The shoreline is lovely, and we were treated with high surf and the surfers it attracted.
The unit is stocked with basic provisions. The in unit laundry and covered parking were appreciated.
Wi-Fi speed was good.
It’s a second level unit, but actually you simply walk down a few stairs from the parking garage to get to it. Easy peasy!

This condo had a fantastic oceanfront view. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai every morning watching surfers, kayakers, parasailers, dolphins, etc. The unit was well-equipped with everything we needed. We appreciated the Tommy Bahama beach chairs and umbrella and the small ice chest and ice packs that we used for our beach days. The unit is equipped with AC in the living room and we rarely used it for our December trip. We just left the sliding door open and fans on and the breeze was enough to keep us cool. Bath and beach towels were limited and the living room furniture was that uncomfortable wicker but there were nice extra touches like binoculars, books, puzzles, coffee pot filters that we appreciated. There were TVs in the living room and bedroom and included cable channels. The king size bed was comfortable although the bedroom windows open to the inside building courtyard so you can hear people coming/going. Parking our rental car was super easy and close to the unit. Our communication with the owner was limited because we were sent all the information we needed and did not have any issues during our stay. Overall, a great rental unit and perfect location!

Pros:
- great location in Kona near all the restaurants and activities
- great view of the nearby beach and surfers
- beautiful sunsets in the evenings on the Lanai
- well equipped with beach gear like chairs, umbrella, and boogie boards
Cons:
- the bed is very uncomfortable because of its super soft padding and the pillows too thick for sleeping as you sink into the bed like a V
- the design of the entire condo makes the bedroom subject to all noise from the atrium. This means drunken neighbors or doors slamming throughout the night if you opt to open the shutters for air flow. It also means people can hear you talking inside if they’re standing next to the bedroom shutters.
- the overall cleanliness is a little damp but that’s expected for a beachside location
- missing a rice cooker even though stated there was one in the property listing. Very basic kitchen overall but sorta expected for a short term rental.
- central location comes with the downside of driving through some busy streets like Ali’i drive to get to the condo after a day at the beach
Overall a decent stay for the price but unfortunately the bed is a deal breaker for us and we wouldn’t come back.

This had exactly what was needed! We came down on our honeymoon and this was perfect.
All the amenities you would desire. Underground parking, only 5 steps. The beach was around the corner. It made for great nights watching the sun set.
With water shoes the bay offered great snorkeling or boarding!!!
We were able to walk or drive for minutes right along the strip as needed for entertainment, food or shopping as needed.
The best part was the view. Every night you are treated to a spectacular sunset!

We most enjoyed Papa Kona's and Kai's restaurants for the food and views while eating. If you want to dance go to Gertrude's.

We got this condo without knowing what we were getting with the views. There were lots of different pictures. Our condos view was a full on ocean scene. From on the balcony you could see a small amount of land between the ocean and the building, from inside the condo all you saw was the ocean. It was a beautiful site to wake up to each morning and the sunsets were breathtaking. The kitchen and laundry equipment made our stay even better. We had everything we needed to prepare and eat at home when we did not want to eat out. Being able to clean clothing after a swim in the ocean or the pool was great, no wet smelly clothes lingering around. The only thing that would make this place better was if the pool area stayed open later than 10pm. By the time you get back from a day running around the island you just want to slip into the hot tub to find it locked.

The property was clean, as described and close to town. We enjoyed our mornings watching the waves comes in with a cup of coffee on the lanai and closed each day with a glass of wine and visit to the jacuzzi. The unit is well furnished and has all you need...whether making a meal at "home" or grabbing a quick bite for the road, it had all that you would need. The beach next door is easily accessible and there are several more to choose from just a short ride away. We used the boogie boards provided a few times and the washer and dryer came in handy to wash the towels throughout our stay. The proximity to town made it easy to walk into for a quick meal, cocktail or visit to the Farmer's Market. We had an absolutely lovely time in Kona and enjoyed our stay at Kona Reef. We will be back to play with the sea turtles in front of the unit and feed the birds their morning sweet bread. THANK YOU!

My husband and I stayed at Kona reefs condo for 7 nights during our first big island vacation. We truly enjoyed our stay. The location was central enough, we could walk to all restaurants and shops. The lenai has such beautiful ocean view, we dined in often. After all we had the best seat in the house 😊.
The condo is equipped with everything one needs during stay. There are a few things they can do to improve upon. Adding wine bottle opener, better linens for bedroom and a roller shade for lenai.
The lenai is facing west and as the sun starts to go down after4 pm, if you are back from your excursions, you are forced to stay in as the lenai gets super hot with afternoon sun. Some other units have roller shade for that very same reason .
Other than that, we had a great time and will definitely stay here on our next trips.

Beautiful view. Condo was comfortable and had plenty of space for two people. Was initially confused by the combination lock box near the outside door. Didn't realize there was also a combination pad on the door itself due to the screen door covering it. Initially spent many frustrating minutes trying to open the lock box. The outside door light needs to be brighter. Couldn't see the numbers on the combination pad without my cell phone light. 4:00 check in time is a bit late. Especially when you consider the 3 hour time gain from the mainland west coast.

The view is indeed breathtaking, and that alone makes this a definite go-to spot for us. This is an older property, but this unit was very clean and well maintained. The pool and bbq area is also nicely maintained and kept clean. The location is great as we could walk to several nice restaurants and shopping areas.

This is a beautiful property in a great location! Very well equipped in the kitchen, comfortable furniture inside and on the lanai. Great lighting! As an avid reader, I find most places do not have sufficient light to be able to read at night. This condo had a great reading lamp! Also really appreciated the washer/dryer in the suite, the landline telephone, and the selection of books and games. My only frustration was that the fitted bed sheet would not stay on the bed. We would definitely stay here again if in Kona.
