We loved our stay at Makani Sands! Yes the unit is a bit dated but everything was great. Nice big lanais with beautiful views. Enough space for our 4 adults & 2 kids without feeling cramped. My kids loved the pool! Provided snorkel gear was a bonus too. Snorkeling right out back was awesome, lots of turtles! Would definitely stay again!

Tammy was so helpful the entire from booking until final check out! This is an excellent stay with my husband and 3 adult children. The place was very clean and very quiet. The stunning view was right on the ocean. I would leave the sliding door ajar as to fall asleep and wake up to the relaxing sound of the ocean and birds. This place has all the amnementies as well. Beach towels and bath towels for the whole family. Plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, full kitchen with all the plates, cups, and spices needed for cooking. Ice cube trays, dish washing soap and laundry detergents and fabric softener sheets as well. No need to pack all the extras! The decor was beautiful and beachy! I loved all the new upgrades! 2 and a half full bathrooms and great air conditioning worked well. A place I would definitely book again and again!

Great location, people were very pleasant and helpful. Had issue with air conditioning. Primary suite very nice but back bedrooms had noisy air conditioning or were too warm. Furniture could use some updating as well as toilet on lower level. Kitchen well equipped. All in all just needs some updating and overpriced for condition.

Our family of six adults stayed in #301. It is just the right size. Everything was in great shape and we had a wonderful time. We like the updates made to the sea wall and the steps down to the ocean. We enjoyed waking each morning and watching the whales from our balcony. This is our second time staying at Makani Sands and each time was great.

My two cousins, along with our husbands were the guests for nine days. In all, there were six of us in this rental and it provided us with plenty of room. We spent most of our time on one of two balconies watching whales and even saw some turtles swim buy. One of the turtles came up on the beach. There were some things we wish we had on site but overall it was great. We all said we would return.

West Maui Makani Sands has been our go to for the last 6-7 years. This year was a major landscape (beachside) overhaul. We were called 5 days prior to arrival stating that the grass was tore up. Upon arrival it was more than tore up. Then we found out a 25% discount was given to all renters due to conditions and no beach access and we were not offered that. We paid over $4000 for the rental. You would expect top conditions all around for that price. Extremely disappointing in Manager Tami. I

Our family of five adults stayed in this unit in June, 2022. As other reviews have stated, some of the furnishings are a bit worn, but this was to be expected and overall we found everything to be above average is quality and condition. Keep in mind, with the volume of visitors right now, these units are rented non-stop.
When it comes to the Makani Sands complex, we feel we made an excellent choice. It is a smaller property, so you park very close to the stairs and elevator. Also, the West Maui bus line has a stop right out front. That is not the case for 90% of condo complexes. You can avoid the parking mess at Whaler's Village and Lahaina by paying $1 or $2 to take the bus (it runs hourly).
Be aware that you only have a sandy beach out front a few hours a day during low tide, but you are able to walk down and swim anytime. It is a great place to snorkle and there is equipment and couple of boogie boards out on the balcony. There are also ice chests in one of the bedroom closets (thank you).
The unit has A/C, but even on 84 degree days, the breeze kept the whole house cool and we never even turned it on.
Tammy in the office was a great resource and very helpful. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay and can't wait to go back.

The location is optimal! On the beach and spacious lanai x2. Tammy, the condo manager, is a lovely lady and very helpful. 301 is a very old condo that has not been well taken care of. The main complaint is the AC system. The master bedroom must be very cold in order to cool the 2nd king bedroom enough to be comfortable sleeping. The upstairs ceiling fans need repaired or replaced. The remote(s) for fans/lights are only usable for second king bdrm. Furniture throughout is old and faded. Kitchen, however, has everything you may need. Our family adjusted to the few inconveniences as we were happy to be together in Maui.

This was a family trip to celebrate our son’s college graduation and each of our adult children had their significant other so we were a group of 6. We loved snorkeling right off the beach and enjoyed the waves crashing at night while we sat on the porch overlooking the ocean. We also loved the location with access to many beaches where our son could surf and we could snorkel and we enjoyed being close to many restaurants and close to the grocery store. It really was a perfect place to stay and we would love to come back !!

We had a wonderful time at this property. The view couldn't have been better - from our lanai seeing whales every day right there, as well as sea turtles, and one day some dolphins off in the distance. The place was very clean, the kitchen incredibly well-stocked, and when we wanted a cooler one day when we were taking food to the beach, Tammy happily provided one. The nearby beaches were wonderful for snorkeling. All in all, a fantastic stay!

We rented 3 units at Makani Sands. All units are beautiful except for unit 301 which is very outdated and needs maintenance and cosmic overhaul. Had many issues including ceiling leaks when showering, no lights in rooms, faulty lights in kitchen (probably damage from water) and toilet seats were so worn out from the 1980's. Unit is spacious but very outdated with many cosmetic needs.. The other units were beautiful and the area is beautiful. This unit only rents due to air conditioning because it really needs some TLC. Your vacation home should be better if not the same as your own home. It failed in that aspect. Please update the unit!
