Perfect Kauai getaway! We had a fantastic time at the condo in Poipu. The location was ideal, with stunning ocean views and easy access to the beaches and everywhere else on the island.
The condo itself was clean and well-equipped, and the spacious outdoor space was perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
We would highly recommend this property anyone looking for a beautiful and relaxing Kauai vacation especially for a large group of people.

Good location. Step out to pool and hot tub. Has partial ocean view. Suggestion for the owner is the glass top cofe table should be changed. Many of us was hurt by bump in to the glass top. Overall a nice place to stay.

We only needed a 2 night stay but would stay longer next time. When we first arrived, the condo was only steps away from the parking lot. Very convenient! The entrance was down a few stairs and the landing was very dark. It was difficult to see anything because the light was burned out but we were able to use a phone flashlight to see and the keypad worked great to get inside.
Once inside the condo, it was muggy and somewhat musty but that dissapated quickly once we opened the windows and doors and turned on the many room air conditioners (Kauai is muggy in general).
The location was great with the pool and hot tub only steps away and the view of the ocean from the patio was amazing! The condo was spacious with 3 bedrooms, a decent sized kitchen and living room. The sofa wasn't super comfortable to sit on but the 3 new recliners were! The beds were comfortable. The main bathroom tub didn't drain well at all but I used the plunger and solved the problem. Our short stay was great! The only thing I wish were different would be patio slider that we could unlock with a key from the outside. One of us always had to walk all the way around to go to the pool (we always locked up when we left). Overall, our time in Poipu was memorable and we would definitely come back again to stay here!

We were here 2 weeks in January. Everything was as it was represented - kitchen is well equipped. Altho we're not"beachy" - there seemed to be plenty of equipment, chairs, coolers, etc. The condo is right at the pool so occasionally there are noisy kids or 1/2-drunk young men. Not really an issue tho. We loved having the a/c's - they work great. (altho we only used 2, there is an a/c for each bedroom and one between the living room and kitchen. Contact people were fairly responsive to any concerns we had.

My wife and I have 6 kids ages 21-3 years old. The size of the property, location and amenities were perfect for all of us. We liked being on the ground floor as there is a lot of noise with our group and having the pool right out our door was awesome.

We had a nice stay at this property - great views, ability to walk to the beach, easy access to other parts of Kauai. We had a few issues with necessary kitchen supplies, but I am confident those will be corrected in the future. I would highly recommend this property in the future.

Location is definitely the main positive. The unit itself is quite old. The two smaller bedrooms in fact had a “wet” smell. The manager was easy to reach and was accommodating. Overall, if you’re looking to stay in an oceanfront place without forking over top dollar, this is the place. Just don’t be expecting the ritz carlton.

My family of 5 adults and 3 children had a wonderful stay in this condo. The complex was so laid back, just what we hoped for. The size of this unit was perfect. We found ample kitchenware, as we cooked and bbq’d daily. The beds were very comfortable and our teen loved getting their own space with the overflow mattress that was provided. The convenient location, walk to both Poipu and Shipwreck Beaches were awesome bonuses. Every day we saw beautiful sunrises and sunsets just steps from our Lanai. The children loved the pool and it was super handy for the adults to watch them. Both the owner and management company were so helpful and quick to respond to our questions. I would highly recommend this unit for other families.

Absolutely beautiful place! I read the other reviews and some complained about outdated areas. Yes, this condo could use a little (love) update in bathrooms and decorations. But really, I had a comfortable bed, great shower pressure, A/C and a coffee maker- what else would I need? It was SUPER amazing to have beach stuff like boogie boards, umbrellas, chairs and coolers. FYI, there are only 6 beach towels. There are 5 of us so we brought our own towels too because 1 towel per person at the beach is not enough! Initially we were also supposed to have 7, but ended up with only 5. I honestly think you should not have more than 6 unless you have small kids that can share a bed. Overall this was the perfect location. It’s a long walk to the beach. Highly recommend the poke bar at Big Save for lunch (in the back)!!! Thank you Jim for allowing us to stay!

Very little, if any, insulation in ceiling made every footfall from unit above ours sound like someone pounding on a drum. Very disconcerting to say the least. Half of the lamps in the living room were inoperable and both persons sent to remedy the problem failed. So, just lived with it for the rest of our stay. Nice amenities with the unit. Pool and spa very nice and well maintained daily.

This place is in a good location with nice views of the ocean and sunset. The place needs updating. It had an 80s beachy feel. There was no drain cover on the master bathtub, and I could see hair wrapped around the drain. The tile floor is not the most appealing. We didn't know how to work the air conditioner at first, so we were hot the first two nights. Once we figured it out it was fine. The kitchen was well stocked. The place only had 5 beach towels even though it says it holds 8 people. There were plenty of other beach supplies.

We loved our stay here so much! We have been traveling to Kauai for the past 30 years and tend to stay on the East side of the island. We switched it up this year and could not have been happier with this place! Perfect size for our little family. Lots of kitchen amenities, ample space for everyone and a lovely location.

This condo is situated on a beautiful property overlooking the ocean. The property is well maintained. The condo was big enough for our family members of six. I also agree with other previous reviews that the Unit needs some TLC, upgrading and decluttering.
Maintenance was prompt to repair 2 holes in the screen and communicated well when attention was needed for pest control.
Location in Poipu was easy to travel around and walking distance to Poipu Beach.

This was a great place to stay. We were able to have coffee at the overlook every morning while watching whales, turtles and dolphins.
Property manager responded quickly to questions and was very helpful. There were beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards and ice chests to use. Also some cooking spices which was nice. It was a short drive to the beaches but that’s how it is for most condos on Kauai. We enjoyed sitting out in the lanai which at ground level was very convenient for the pool/hot tub and overlooks. It could use some updating.

Excellent location and everything needed for our stay was there. Spacious for our family of 5 and really liked having the ensuite. We sat outside on the patio as much as possible and really enjoyed it! Could use some updating for an even more comfortable stay and to make it more enticing for rebooking. The cupboards have a noticeable odour(old materials)which transfers to the dishes and also the condo. Dishwasher didn’t work the best and air conditioning was mediocre. Overall we really enjoyed our stay; much better than paying for an overpriced hotel room.

The condo was great! Had a nice view and pool. There were a lot of extra pillows but no pillow cases for them. Also only 7 bath towels and there was 8 of us. The listing said there were no stairs but that is not true. You have to go down two flights of stairs to get into the condo. My husband is disabled so it was hard on him. We had a nice trip. The island is beautiful.

We were on the island to celebrate our aunts 75th birthday. We brought our adult children and each could had their own room. The condo accommodated us perfectly and we’re thrilled with all the beach toys, chairs, coolers and many extras. The only recommendation is to clearly mark that communication with the unit is through Discover Kauai Properties. I kept checking my VRBO and email from the host. Once this was made clear all was perfect. We look forward to returning. Thank you!

The location is excellent for ocean and sunset views. The beach is about half mile walk. If space and sleeping capacity is what you are looking for them this is a good fit. Here are some pros and cons:

Not conducive with limited mobility, no ground floor entrances
Mold in bathrooms and by kitchen sink
Patio screens ripped and don’t slide well
Closet in main bedroom over cluttered
Pool is small and not heated
Not sound proof so easily hear neighbors (has policy of 9p-9a quiet hours but nobody on property to enforce)
Dated
Only A/C are portable units which always produce some noise and only in two bedrooms
Says hi-tech but is limited to a plug-in USB in main bathroom and smart TV. Entry is old-school keypad to and requires actual key
Lanai furniture is rusty and unlevel (put some poker chips under a couple legs to level out)
3rd bedroom has rally noisy fan, couldn’t sleep with it on and then too warm without it

Great location and walkable to trails. The unit was large enough to fit our needs. The unit was a somewhat tired and could use a bit of updating. Some of the repairs we saw weren’t fixed properly and didn’t look good.

Our family (3 generation, ranging in age from 14 to 71) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo. We could whale watch from the condo living room, although a close up view was better by walking out to the point and sitting on the benches. One thing I will mention that I was surprised by - this condo is listed as a ground floor condo, and it is. I thought that meant there were no stairs. That is not true. No condo in this complex is without a set of stairs - in this case you go down a flight of stairs, but if you have a problem with stairs, this can be troublesome. We managed it, but it was slow for the old folks. Still, wouldn't trade all the whales.
The management company and owner were awesome to work with. When we arrived, the dryer wasn't working and they had someone out within a day to fix it. I talked to the manager several times and she was always full of helpful info and suggestions.

Our family had a wonderful time! The view was gorgeous! Walk to Shipwreck beach was a bit long (about 15 min) but worth it! The trail along the ocean to get to the beach was beautiful and well kept. The hot tub was warm and we enjoyed that each evening. The condo had plenty of room to accommodate our family of 6. Downside was the condo needs updating (as pictures show). The floors were sticky and didn’t seem to be super clean. My adult kids said their beds were all very comfortable, but they felt their floors and surrounding area was dirty. If we returned to Kauai we would go back to this complex, but probably look for a different condo to stay in. But we had a great time!

We loved the condo - great location, hot tub, lanai, best sunset views. Great kitchen, beach chairs and umbrella - everything you need for a nice family vacay. We bought and left there a pack and play and infant’s tub. So if you travel with infants, you don’t have to worry about buying or renting these things. Only one negative thing to mention - very soft pillows. If you have any neck issues like I do, bring your own pillow. Other than that, everything was excellent. We hope to come back next year! Also the property manager was very sweet and helpful!

The location is amazing; walking distance to Poipu Beach and shopping. You don't have to leave the property to see the most amazing sunsets and sea turtles. The property itself was a bit worn. It is listed as air conditioned but there were only 2 portable air conditioning units in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. The rest of the unit was very hot and stuffy. We had an issue with windows not opening, broken lamps, and lights now working. Most was taken care of by property management, but they would not authorize an additional air conditioning unit even though the owner OKed it. That was very disappointing. Jim was great and very responsive when VRBO accidently canceled our reservation the week we were leaving. I think VRBO needs to be more specific when they claim a rental is air conditioned.

This condo is GREAT. Lots of room and conveniences, unit is on the first floor, easy to go to the lookout to watch the sunset, or stars/moon at night. Right next to a rocky shore, which gave an opportunity to see turtles swimming in the ocean below. Nearby to some great beaches (ie Poipu and Shipwreck Beach) as well as shops and restaurants.
We did have some hiccups checking in re obtaining the box code to get the key to the front door, which may be in part to the business office closing at 3:00. After communicating with the owner and the on-site agency, I think this will not likely be a problem in the future.
This unit was a GREAT price for the area, and we would be happy to stay here again !

The location was spectacular, on a cliff edge overlooking the ocean, with access to miles of trails and paths along the shore. We could watch sunrises and sunsets from here. Our unit was dated, but clean with a very well-stocked kitchen. The pool was kept very clean and well maintained. We were very pleased with our stay and experience!

First off, Kauai is my home and we were all locals visiting home for a family reunion. I loved it because it was Kauai. Can't go wrong with homemade meals from mom.It had rained days before we arrived and the night we arrived it was drizzling. So when we got to the condo it was very muggy and humid. Of course there was no AC, just fans all around. That was a downfall, but the rest of the nights we were there It was nice and breezy.I love how the condo came equip with condiments, pots, pans, utensils, and towels, even a teether if your baby needs one.We didn't have any babies tho.Just adults, 8 of us total. BTW, you will be charged for all adults.It was nice to be able to bake mochi for my family having all the right utensils! The laundry and dryer in the unit made it convenient for us to wash if we needed too.The condo felt homey, older built, and location was great. I appreciated all the info the owner left, mainly for tourist(BTW locals don't call the bypass rd freeway) But since we are from there we do what locals do, secret fishing spots and beaching all day!There was a BBQ grill area on the property but the propane tanks were always low when we went to BBQ. The pool was ok, nothing like the Marriott. The lights at the pool didn't work so make sure you bring flashlight. I thought that was quite dangerous. Quite time is 9am to 9pm.Not sure why it was 9am.The condo was easily accessible to the pool.BTW the landscapers do a great job on the property. The grass outside the condo was outstanding! Looking out towards the ocean you can see the sunset, BEAUTIFUL Kauai! The property manager was so helpful! she delivered extra car passes for overnight parking the following day we arrive.We appreciated all the extra items available to us, like the beach chairs, fishing pole, poker set, cards,and futon, etc.The beds were nice, I love that the sheets were 500+ count (I'm all about my hotel collection sheets) Lastly, I would recommend this place very much! Just wish they changed the refrigerator before we arrived. And the owner was aware that it was needing to be replaced and was working on looking for another one. We were charged extra for 8 adults, therefore, we did have A LOT of food that went bad quick and frozen food (Expensive local eats) that defrosted, and ice cream that melted.

We spent a week at Jim's condo and wished we could have stayed longer. The condo has a lovely lanai setup and is a couple of minutes from the point where you can watch crashing waves or peaceful sunsets. Watching the waves and the beautiful sunsets was something we all enjoyed and the location was perfect for that. Being on the ground floor was great for the children and the unit had good air flow with the trade winds. We were concerned about no AC but it was not an issue at all.
Everything in the kitchen was clearly marked and we had what we needed to make meals at home. Eating breakfast out on the lanai and planning our day was priceless!
We came with our daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren ages 1 and 4. It was great being a five minute drive from Poipu State Park because that beach is protected from the larger waves. We appreciated the beach chairs ,cooler and rafts. Thanks Jim - we would love to come back!

We loved the short commute to Poipu beach and the shopping plazas. We also enjoyed a couple of nice sunrise walks along the cliff trail. We appreciate the loaner cooler, beach mat and chairs too!
However, we found the unit in need of a deep cleaning (splatters alongside the master toilet wall, and several other questionable splatters intermittently on walls throughout). We also struggled with the glass table tops, all of our family members repeatedly ran into the coffee and end tables due to their obvious transparency. Notable is the dated furniture, and slightly rusting refrigerator. One if our biggest issues was the lack of air conditioning, that was amplified by the lack of outside breeze with this below ground lower hill side unit. The shared entry neighbors were blatantly disturbing on at least 3 of our nights with their late night/early morning partying, their yelling party guests, loud music, guest tromping up and down the stairs. Their lack of any consideration was intimidating, we had to close the doors and windows to assist in reducing what noise but of course that left us with zero incoming breeze.
The unit owners in the photos on the wall look sweet and I truly hope that none of this review is taken personal. We were disappointed.

The condo is very nicely laid out with two bedrooms apart from the Master which was perfect for our son's family who spent a week with us. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed and wanted including sharp knives for cooking and even a coffee grinder. We very much appreciated the beach items like boogie boards (adult and children's) as well as sand toys and beach chairs. Even the beach towels were plush.
The property was just a few steps away from the pool which was perfect for the kids. Our only issue was that we couldn't swim until 9:00 AM - but we just went to the beach instead which is just a 10 minute walk away
All in all we would recommend this unit and this property for families. Very comfortable and convenient.

Jim, Tonight is the last night of our two week stay at your condo and we don't want to leave! The unit is equipped with everything we needed and the staff at the Makahuena were very friendly and helpful. We loved the view from the lanai, including spectacular sunsets! The point was great for viewing sunrises, whales and turtles. We hope to return again soon!

Thank you so much for making your wonderful condo available to rent. Kauai and your condo exceeded our expectations. The condo was very spacious, comfortable and relaxing, we did not want to leave. The view from the condo grounds was amazing.
My sister rented a 2 bdr.2 bath condo closer to Poipu beach without a Pool or Hottub and paid over $100 more a night then we did. The one thing that they had that we didn't, the Roosters waking them up at 5 am every morning.
We are already planning our return trip.

Sitting here in the Seattle July rain makes us want to return to the sunny Poipu area and unit 2103! Your unit is extremely large, spacious and comfortable. We loved being very close to the pool and hot tub and eating breakfast on the ground floor lanai surrounded by beautiful plants, flowers and birds. The excellent cross draft of tradewinds and ample fans kept us very comfortable in the summer temperatures. The beautiful sunsets, crashing waves and turtles on the point are just steps away. My husband golfed almost every day at nearby courses. The local open air markets are a must for fresh produce and flowers. I could go on and on. We definitely will return to this unit.

Our family loved our stay in Poipu and this condo made it so much nicer and was so convenient to both sides of the island. It housed a full kitchen with a full range of dishes, pans, etc. The large living room combined with the ability to open it up to the master bedroom really added that spacious feeling, giving it a full frontal glass view of the tropical grounds and ocean view. Even with 4 adults and 2 children we never felt like we were walking all over each other. Plenty of room for more family. We're looking forward to returning next year.

I stayed at Jim's condo in mid-march and found it to be perfect for my 4 adult and 2 child traveling party. It was very spacious and clean and felt like home. Jim's condo was in very good condition, close to the parking lot, pool and ocean overlook. Complex is close to 3 grocery stores and everything we needed to cook was in the unit already. We saw whales in the distance from the overlook - seemed like a one of the best places on the island to be able to see them.

We stayed at Jim's condo for 3 weeks and had a wonderful time in his spaceous 3b/r condo. Ground flr access, close to the swimming pool, and with a view of the ocean, sunrise/sunset and humpbacks was definitely an added benefit. We loved our stay and, with the good Lord willing, plan on going back.
