We stayed in another unit at the Kona Islander Inn on our last trip to the Big Island and were happy to return this time around as well - great location with plenty of restaurants and shopping easily accessible by foot, including early breakfast options for before day trips. And King-size beds seem to be hard to come by in vacation rentals - it was nice to be able to spread out here like at home!

The condo was updated, and very clean! It was located off a busy street but the unit was very quiet! It was nice because we parked our car at the unit and were able to walk everywhere. We would stay here again!

PLEASE read this if you're looking to stay here after May 2023.
I booked this place for my fiancé and me to attend a wedding for 7 days. Check-in was easy, but when we got to the room, we pulled back the sheets and there was a large COCKROACH on the BED. It skittered down the headboard and out of sight.
We immediately left and called VRBO. They contacted the host, David, who declined to issue a refund. VRBO then said they also can't issue a refund unless I can send a picture of the cockroach. I spent 30 minutes tearing apart the room with no luck. I took a picture of the feces the cockroach left on the bed, but VRBO said it was not good enough.
I called David myself and asked why he declined my refund. He basically called me a liar, and that this has never happened before. He offered to change the bed sheets, but would not refund my $1300. Luckily, we were able to book last minute accommodations just up the road, so we left that same day.
So if you are looking to stay here, just know that the cockroach is STILL IN THE ROOM. Since David didn't believe me, he probably hasn't done anything to get rid of it. If you are unfortunate enough to see it, but not get a picture of it, David will happily decline your refund and ruin your vacation. It's not worth the stress and anger I went through, and I highly recommend just booking someplace else. I'm still working with my credit card company to try and get my money back. Thanks for nothing, David.

The newly-remodeled condo was clean and everything worked as advertised. We loved the location, which is just a stone's throw from the waterfront, restaurants, and shopping. At the same time, it was quiet and we observed that the other residents of the condo complex adhered well to the rules. If you're looking for a place that's close to the action in Kona, this is a good place for you!

Right in the heart of Kona...very close to restaurants and shopping yet still private and quiet. We were set up with everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Helpful front desk, coin laundry room, equipped kitchenette, 2 extra beach towels and even a beach cooler!

Location was perfect and the community was well maintained and quaint. A couple of negatives: we did not have hot or even warm water for 2 of our 3 day stay. We were left enough ground coffee to make just 2 cups. There is a couch in the studio unit, but the TV is placed in front of the bed, which required us to sit on the bed to watch TV.

We parked the car and didn’t use it again during our two night stay. Walking distance to dining, beach and entertainment. No view of the ocean from unit but it is just across the street. We used the beach chairs which were provided in the unit. Very comfy bed.

Great location and a super comfortable bed! This condo is right in the middle of Kailua-Kona which made for easy strolls in the lovely town. We were active on this vacation and it was wonderful to have a big comfy bed to drop into at night! Having a pool and hot tub available was also a luxury. The kitchen amenities were perfect for us. This was just a great place to anchor our amazing vacation on the Big Island! Mahalo!

Everything was as described. Roomy studio with new fixtures and kitchenette counter.
The toaster was nowhere to be found and David was there in a flash with a new one! We so appreciated that. The friendly and inquisitive visiting kitty was an extra bonus!

It was so perfect for us. Not to big and very clean. We walked to all eating and drinking locations. Had parking for our car for beach jaunts. When there was a minor issue our host to care of it in less than 24 hours. Love the property and people working here. Bed was very comfortable. We are so happy with our experience.

We had a great stay and were surprised at how close the condo was in walking distance to everything in the quaint village and water. Lots of seaside restaurants, shops, art galleries, and bars. There is also a grocery store and Walmart nearby for essentials. The room was clean and modern. Finding parking if you come in late at night can be a problem which you are informed of at check-in. Otherwise, parking is not a problem. Communication was great with the owner David and I would stay here again and highly recommend this stay to others.

This condo is perfectly situated in downtown Kona. You can walk to countless bars, restaurants, and shops. Very clean and taken care of. Will definitely come back in the future!

It was a great little condo and everything had its place. I would definitely return and rent here again. Only concern was not enough parking on site. If you weren’t parked at 5PM, it was a public lot about 1/4 mile away.

This property was everything that it was described to be and the reviews were mostly accurate. Property manager David was so friendly and quick to respond and even gave ideas of things to do in town. His property had everything that you needed including boogie boards and ice chest and sunscreen if you needed it. It was clean and the location to town was great so you could walk to restaurants bars shopping and even some small beaches. I will definitely be back.

This property was perfect for our needs. My wife and I are super active, so we needed a place to lay our heads at night that was also close to dining/drinks. This condo is steps from all the restaurants on Ali'i drive in downtown Kona. Owners are very responsive. Overall A++ experience for us, we will be back.

Condo leaves a generous impression. This is a single room with a bathroom. Parking is up for grabs. That said, it worked fine for us. We just needed a place to sleep and be a base while we explored. Place was clean, the AC struggled but sufficed, and the price was right.

I have nothing but good to say about the owners and the condo itself. The problem was that a condo above ours had stopped up plumbing which led to water leaking into our bathroom. The owners responded quickly and cleaned up and disinfected the bathroom. The plumber continued working on the issue until almost 10:00 pm at night pounding, snaking, and cutting pipes. It went on for hours and was so loud we could not watch tv. A little after 8:40 am the next morning it started up all over again! The plumber said there was raw sewage all over the unit above ours and we had more water leaking into our bathroom. Super disappointed!

Exactly as described. Property was close to everything but still quiet. The pool and hot tub were very nice as well. I only had one need from owner and he responded in minutes. I think that is what makes this property and others like it stand out. You arrive and it is as described and you have little to no interaction with property owner/manager. I will definitely stay again next visit to big island.

Great place to stay. Comfortable bed and lovely area to explore town - lots of places to eat and shop. Even though we had trouble with the keys, the attendant helped us access the unit and David personally came down to assist the following morning. That’s pretty great service.

Great communication with owner. Good condo staff, although not always manned. Allowed early check in. As advertised. Excellent location in Kona. Only complaint is the parking pass, which is for general lots, which fill up around 6 PM. After that you may be circling around for who knows how long, as two vehicles did after we got the last spot. Maybe this is standard policy at area condos, but that should be explicit: parking is limited in the evening. We cancelled an evening excursion because of this.

This was a very nice unit. It had all the basics plus a few extras such as beach towels, boogie board, swim masks, cleaning supplies, spices, a few canned goods, a some handy maps & brochures. I definitely will request this unit again!

Location is the plus for this historic, lovely studio property. Across Ali’i Drive from the ocean and centrally located in Kailua town, it is next to so many good places to eat and shop. (And to watch the sand volleyball.) The Cali King bed is super comfortable and the condo was just remodeled & spotless. Nice to have the futon. Small kitchen with a little frig and microwave so we ate out every meal. Small secluded lanai was perfect. AC worked great. Nice quality towels and linens. The pool was super clean, warm and small with steep drop off, but always room to sun and swim. There is limited parking which was an issue. That was really the only thing to complain about. Owner was very quick & responsive and condo staff were super friendly. Great price for a simple Island getaway. We loved it and will return.
