Great location - could get to beaches and other parts of the island easily for sightseeing, restaurants, hikes, etc. Condo decor was a bit dated but clean and well stocked - kitchen, bathroom, beach items. No central air conditioning but unit in bedroom provided enough air to keep us cool in October. Be aware you can hear the upstairs tenants walking around in the evening. Overall it was a good condo for the price paid.

The unit was just as described. Comfortable, clean and convenient to Poipu Beach! Had great beach amenities and from the lanai, a view of the ocean where we saw humpback whales and green sea turtles. The landscaping was lovely and the pool and hot tub were immaculate. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We fell in love with the lanai. Perfect for meals, reading or napping. Being 30 seconds away from perfect viewing of sunrise and sunset can't be beat. There is an extremely well equipped kitchen and all the beach toys you could ask for on an island vacation. Will definitely stay here on our next trip to Kauai.

The condo complex and property were lovely and well maintained with easy access to wonderful views of the ocean. The condo itself had a nice partial view of the ocean with lovely grass and grounds. It could be a very nice condo if it was cared for better. Although it appears clean when you enter, as you open cupboards, look at light fixtures, furniture, rugs, etc. it really needs a deep cleaning. Furniture is well-used inside and out and not necessarily what you see in the photos. The kitchen is large with lots of cupboard space, but there is too much stuff. There were random dishes on every shelf some of which had been unused so long we didn’t want to use them unless we washed them. The pantry cupboard was so full and disorganized that we couldn’t put any food away and if we pulled something out we washed it first. We had to contact the manager to have the light fixture cleaned which was full of dead bugs and dirt inside and dirty cobwebs on the outside along with a resident spider that even stayed after the cleaning making more cobwebs. What could have been a very nice condo in a very nice location was just ok since it needs some updating, organizing, cleaning and tender loving care.

We enjoyed our vacation rental in Poipu! The gardens around the property were very well maintained and provided a nice atmosphere for catching the evening sunset. The property was in very close proximity to beaches and restaurants. The kitchen was well stocked and the other accessories like beach toys, towels, etc were a nice touch to see upon our arrival. The pool was unfortunately closed for the majority of our stay due to maintenance - we understand these things happen and the property manager / owner had good communication about this and listened to our concerns to make sure it did not damper our overall stay. If we had to give some feedback otherwise, the rental could use some upgrades in the bathroom.

Overall we were very pleased with this property! One thing I don't think we anticipated, was that being on the ground level meant we didn't want to have the shades open / windows open at nighttime for the whole world to peep in at us. That meant we kept the windows closed during the coolest time, and the living areas were frequently ~80-82 degrees. If it weren't for the AC units in the bedrooms we would have had a different story! The units were great for the bedrooms and ensured we could sleep comfortably at all hours.
The unit itself was wonderful and had everything we could want / need including plenty of dishes / kitchenware and beach towels.

The apartment is one of the best within the complex. At ground level and with a sea view. We didn't mind that everyone walking through the complex can see directly into the apartment. The location right on the cliff is very windy. We stayed in the apartment for 25 days and it was always windy. But you can see spectacular sunsets. The furnishings are a bit outdated. For example, most of the glasses were made of plastic. We would definitely love to come back.

Appreciated the location and partial view. The condo was dated and didn't feel clean with in regards to furniture and carpet. AC function was odd. Found cockroaches in kitchen drawer.

Absolutely loved staying here. Location couldn't be better. Especially loved the morning runs on the coastal trail that starts right at the condo and goes for 3+ miles. Also loved the sunsets from the rock cliff, the pool/hot tub, and the tennis court on site. The grilling set up was excellent. The only improvement I would love to see is a better bed in the master. Either it is old or just too soft. Even with that, we would definitely stay here again!

Four of us enjoyed our week long stay. We had plenty of room and the kitchen was well stocked. Beds were comfortable. We asked that the two twins be pushed together to make a king and our request was accommodated. We spent a lot of time on the patio and enjoyed the ocean views. The only disappointment was that the hot tub was not functioning the entire week. We were not notified of that ahead of time and were offered minimal compensation for it.

Nice, and very spacious condo. Property manager was very helpful and responsive. Probably would not stay here again because it's not at all private, the beautiful windows and lanai are very exposed to the condo complex. It's just the layout of the complex and may not be an issue for others, we felt like we were in a fishbowl. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Relaxation was found atop a bluff with picturesque, unobstructive views of sunrises and sunsets. Condo located on first floor where we found stairs to bring our luggage down and up. Lesson learned, pack lighter as there is a washer dryer in the unit. Pictures are true to expectation. Amenities, kitchen and beach gear, plentiful. Communication was A+, location near shops and restaurants, community clean.

We had a wonderful stay! The house was clean and spacious, with a beautiful ocean view and the sound of the waves. We received a lovely welcome arrangement and the house had plenty of kitchen supplies and extra amenities like beach gear. A short walk to the beach, or a beautiful cliff side view of the ocean right outside the patio if you don’t feel like walking. Would definitely recommend and will look to stay again on our next trip!

After booking this unit on the lanai - the complex reached out and relocated us to another unit because it was double booked. While we prefer a ground lanai experience - we were happy with the new place and view. 2308. Not as upgraded as we would have liked. Couch needs to be replaced. Zero support to sit on. TVs were small and very dated but we could still get Netflix. Pros - the kitchen was great and had everything. Plenty of boogie boards. Snorkel gear. Sand toys. The best - we arrived and there were some treats left for us which made this a huge hit for our kids as we were starving and had no food when we arrived after 10 pm the first night. Overall - Hyatt and Poipu are right on either side. We got a day pass at the Hyatt which was amazing and Poipu beach is a 15 min walk. The pool was also a huge hit with our daughters. Very clean and convenient. Highly recommend this complex if you’re looking for a reasonably priced stay for clean, quiet and not too crowded. We would come back for sure.

This property is just a 100’ from the roar of the Pacific. The recent renovation of the kitchen and bathrooms were well done. It is the most well stocked VRBO where we have stayed in 25 years of staying in VRBO properties.
The noise level is contingent on the renters overhead. We had several large groups of large people!

We had a great stay. Location was perfect. Our favorite part was seeing the sunrise and sunset everyday. While the condo unit was a bit dated, the price and location made up for it. The furniture could use a deep cleaning. We appreciated the beach mat/chairs, cooler and snorkel gear. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this property- it was in a very convenient location! The property manager was very attentive to any questions we had and addressed issues promptly (added an AC unit in a day which we were grateful for). The property also had beach equipment with chairs/umbrellas that made our days on the beach very comfortable! Right outside you can take a short walk and watch the ocean waves (we even spotted a turtle swimming!). Would recommend a stay here if you are visiting Kauai.

This was the perfect spot to spend the week on Kauai with my teenage daughter. We appreciated how well-stocked the condo was, with everything we needed for the week. The welcome basket was also such a nice touch. Novella was very responsive and emailed/called with updates. Our condo cooled down well at night and we didn’t need the air conditioning very often, but it was definitely appreciated on a couple muggy nights. Perfect location and we hope to be back soon!

We loved our time in Poipu and our stay here enhanced it greatly. So many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, we enjoyed the lanai. Looking out at the ocean just steps away was enchanting. We would also enjoy a few lawn chairs right at the lava cliff shoreline and sit for hours and just listen. This place was perfectly positioned for enjoying the ocean and small hikes/walks east to the shoreline and beaches.
The condo is spacious and all you'll need square footage-wise. The kitchen is well-appointed, for sure. The living room furniture could use updating for cleanliness and comfort--if you're going to use the place for that. The primary challenge is the portable air conditioning. There is only one unit and it adequately can cool down the master bedroom. But if you have anyone else using the second bedroom, if it was warm (80s) and higher humidity (as it was for us), it's probably not enough for someone coming from lower-humidity areas. That's just a heads-up.
The management team was very responsive and informative. We would stay here again. Hopefully, we can bring our kids with us next time if they've updated the AC offerings.

Our stay at the Makahuena was great in every regard. The property manager was responsive and accommodating before our arrival, even going so far as to help arrange delivery of infant furniture with a 3rd party vendor on our behalf. Check-in was smooth and the management stayed in touch regarding any needs throughout our stay. The unit itself was well-appointed and had everything needed during our stay, including kitchen items, beach gear, etc. The unit was well-positioned on the southern point at Poipu, which made it possible to watch both sunrises and sunsets from the property. Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke's are walkable or easily accessible by car. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would consider staying at the Makahuena again on a future visit.

We had a great time in this roomy two bedroom, two bath condo. It was seconds from the pool and hot tub, and very close to a walking trail along the beach and cliff. The place was conveniently stocked with almost everything you would every need. There were spices in the cupboard, with plenty of pots, pans, plates, and cups. It was also handy to be able to use the beach towels, and the snorkel gear! We didn't get to the boogie boards, but we did use the picnic blankets, beach mats, and the coolers for the beach. There is plenty to do in Kauai, even though we probably could have stayed very close to home, given the fact that Poipu beach was so close. The snorkeling was great there, although you do have to watch the current. We saw beached turtles and sea lions! Everyone at the condo was super friendly and offered advice on what to see and where to go.
I would say the only thing that was difficult was that it didn't cool down at night, and the ceiling fans and fans still didn't cool down the air much at night. We are from the San Francisco bay area, so are spoiled, in that it does cool down at night. Other than that, it was very relaxing, and an ideal place to stay!

Pool is also enjoyable. Easy check in & check out. One medium/large size TV in the Living Room Good selection of cable channels (Spectrum) .
Supplied lots of info. Walking distances to Beach and Brennakes Restaurant were longer then advertise. Good ocean front cliff side walking path.
Lots of fans. Keeps you comfortable except on the few hot/humid nights.
We would recommend it and stay here again.

My teenage daughters and I loved the proximity to the pool and hot tub. Property is well maintained and issues dealt with speedily.
Place is a little older but just fine for us- not paying Hyatt prices! Thank you for sharing your lovely condo! Also, the beach chairs and cooler were great! Saw whales and dolphins right from the lanai and turtles when we walked down the nearby path!
Would definitely stay again. Kauai is so beautiful!!!

The property was clean and provided your beginning necessities. It was a quiet and relaxing three weeks. We spent most of our time outside on the patio. The view of the ocean from the patio is absolutely beautiful. The personnel that work on the property are very kind and knowledgeable. We also enjoyed the use of the BBQ area and the pool. We would return again. :)

Excellent location. Condo is within walking distance of Poipu Beach and an easy drive to all parts of the island. Grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The condo itself, although a bit dated, was clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for a week and found the location to be superb. Evelyn (Manager) gave us basic directions for whatever we needed. Walking to Poipu Beach and Bernecke's was just a quiet stroll away. Sitting on the patio and listening to the waves pound against the rocks and watching the spray while enjoying our morning coffee and afternoon libation was such a pleasant contrast from our Texas home. Kauai was the only island we hadn't visited and we'd return again in a minute. On our return we'd againr stay at this condo. It was delightful.

The condo was great for our family vacation. We have 2 teenagers and we all loved the location and layout of the condo. Kitchen is fully equipped with the needs of tourists considered (i.e. ice packs in freezer, coolers to pack with drinks and snacks for a beach outing, etc.) Bedrooms are large and the bed in the master bedroom is so comfortable. We saw beautiful sunsets and sunrises from the property as well as watching a pod of spinner dolphins swim by! Would return to this place in a heartbeat!

When we came into the condo I was in awe. It was way bigger and more beautiful than the pictures show. The condo was clean and homey. The king size bed was amazing! I don't know the last time I slept so well, all 7 nights I slept peaceful, as did my husband. We came with another couple and we all utilized the swimming pool and was mystified by the beautiful sunset view. It was a great location for a morning run and/or bike ride. I would have been happy just staying on the South Shore and nothing more, however the crew I was with was a bit more adventurous so we took advantage of the beautiful island and went tubing down the "ditch" and took a Stand up Paddle (SUP) jungle tour which was amazing. Being from Eugene we are spoiled with the many delicious microbrews and thought we should try out the one brewery on Kauai. We went to "Truck Stop Thursday" at the Kauai Beer Company, great atmosphere, great truck food and the beer wasn't too bad either. Hawaiian Ice is amazing if you haven't ever tried it its a must and you can get it everywhere on the island. We walked to Poipu Beach a couple of times (about .65 of a mile from the condo) and snorkeled and bathed in the sun. Amazing trip and cannot wait to come back.
