Overall the stay was excellent - the view was beautiful, the owner provided essentials for kitchen, some snacks and equipment for the beach. All a nice touch. The furniture was was in good condition and comfortable. Though I did inform the owner about some lights that were burned out and outlets not working. I would also suggest the plants on the right side of car parking spot and hedges leading down to the condo be trimmed back to allow easier access

We were very pleased and happy with this wonderful house. The view was fantastic and the house was very spacious, bright and cheerful. It was also very, very clean. It was so nice to have breakfast every morning while watching the sun rise from the dining area. The pool was also a nice treat to have, very private and clean. One night we took a swim and the sky was so clear we could see the Milky Way! We would definitely stay here again.

We started our visit to the Big Island with 3 nights at Hale Kahoa Annex. It was clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is not well suited to lap swimming or water aerobics, but we made do. The large shallow section (3 feet deep) has an abrupt transition to the deep end (at least 6 feet deep). We never had in person contact with the host but everything went fine. The weather was dry during our stay so we had no issues with the steep walkway to the lower unit. It would be nice if a railing was installed to increase confidence when wet.

What an absolutely beautiful spot. Ocean views are expansive, pool is lovely, property is beautiful. When we pulled up, my daughter hadn't seen pictures and said "ooh, this house is gorgeous"... Hadn't heard her say gorgeous before this. Beach is walkable and all the amenities you need are in the house. Very thoughtful hosts. We stayed on the couch bed and my daughter slept in the room... so we could hear the waves crashing and wake up to the ocean. Great spot, will stay here again if we get the chance.

This property is VERY large and comfortable. Pictures on listing are accurate. I was worried about not having AC as we stayed in August. It wasn't an issue. The frogs are loud. I used ear plugs the first night but got used to the little froggies quickly. The private pool was great. I figured the pool would be too cold to swim in as it rains most nights, but it was quite comfortable. I would guess the pool water was around 85F. There is a small black sand beach right down the street with lots of surfers. Take some water shoes as the black sand is not soft. The property is very close to Hilo and about 45 minutes to Volcano National Park. We didn't speak to the owners, just waived to them as we walked by their windows. We did hear them walking around some during the day, but no noise at night. The walkway down to the unit is very steep. This would not be appropriate for anyone with even slight mobility issues. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely recommend this unit.

This was the perfect spot in Hilo for myself and two daughters (age 10 and age 13) to stay while exploring the more "local" side of the island. I loved the view and ocean sounds, the kids loved the pool.
The singing frogs at night do take some getting used to (for city dwellers!) but add to the charm. This is a very special and secluded-feeling retreat, but close to all the great things Hilo has to offer! Ken's Pancakes and Cafe Pesto were favorite eats, and we enjoyed an adventure in Kaumana Caves too.

Perfect in every way! Beautiful view with black sand beach just a short walk away. House has everything necessary with extra special details to make your stay more comfortable. Central location in Hilo is convenient when exploring various sites on east side such as beaches, waterfalls and volcanoes. We would definitely stay at this home again.

This is a lovely spot if you want a part of nature and a very short drive to Hilo or other locations on the east side of Big Island. Hostess outfitted the one bedroom studio generously - snacks, coffee, tea, towels, cooler, anything you need! The binder of information is super nice to know where to eat, beach and visit.
Some notes about access and utilities - the place is not air conditioned so plan to use the fans to cool down the unit. If you have accessibility issues, there is a very steep narrow pathway from the driveway to the entry on the bottom floor. I'm not sure my mom could make it up and down the entrance everyday.

We loved staying at Mari's property. The place looks just like the photos. Our kids loved the pool and that they provided some games and toys. The adults appreciated the comprehensive binder. Property over looks the Hilo bay from the West side. Beautiful views, great afternoon breezes and you get to see whales at times. Had a great 3 day stay and swims in the pool.

This unit was completely wonderful. I could sit on the lounge chairs, watching the exhale of the humpbacks all day. Mari was very responsive and place was very clean. Just keep in mind you can lightly hear the footsteps, muffled conversations, etc of the owners above. The crashing waves mostly drowned out the normal “above your head “ noises. I would absolutely, highly recommend this paradise like place.

When I was looking for a place to stay near Hilo, I noticed this rental was all five stars; I completely agree. The home is very nice and beautiful view of the ocean. The owner is very helpful and available any time. Great location, easily accessible to a lot. Plenty of room. I didn’t get to take advantage of the pool; more so because of my schedule and the weather. Out of all the VRBOs I have rented, this is by far one of the nicest. The owner provides a lot of extras that some don’t. I know my husband and I will come back here within the next year. I highly recommend it.

The property is right on the coast with a spectacular view. The apartment has a large spacious living space and kitchen. It was stocked with everything needed. It is conveniently located minutes from downtown Hilo. The owners were available if needed.

Loved staying at this location! It was so nice waking up to the beautiful sunrises and falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean. There were lots of stars out! This was also a great location to lots of scenic areas/hikes and Volano National Park. The welcome message with snacks was a nice touch, and the book with things to do was helpful! Would definitely stay here again.

We came for just a short visit to Hilo and had a great stay. The location is right on the ocean, and the home felt perfectly "Hawaiin". Just a short drive to downtown Hilo. The pictures do not sum up the beauty of the location, the cleanliness of the home, the privacy, the tranquility. It was beautiful beyond words!! My biggest regret is not booking the place for more nights! Wonderful slow pace area great food close by, super cute little town. The host was great! Super friendly. We will come back again!

Easy check-in, nice parking spot, even better location- spend your morning slipping coffee by the pool watching the locals surf. Location is unmatched. Clean, tidy, large living space and bathroom. The host even let us know about local events we could check out. Highly recommend. :)

This property is a slice of heaven. Between the waves, frogs and that rain we had each morning I don’t think we’ve been so relaxed in years. Our only complaint is that we couldn’t spend more time here! We drove over to volcano national park one day, went to Carlsmith beach another day, and saw a local lava tube and some waterfalls on our way out. We ate ramen and gyoza at Tetsumen for dinner two nights! Stopped by Hawaiian style cafe Hilo for breakfast and Ken’s House of Pancakes and oh my gosh so good. But giant portions! Thanks for a lovely stay we will forever remember this relaxing property! Thank you!

We stayed for 3 nights to get a quick taste of the island. The house, yard, pool, view were all very nice. I was nervous about staying in a home occupied by the owner (I don't believe we have done that, other than at a typical B&B), but it was wonderful. We came and went as we pleased, which for us was early in the morning and late at night. We were sure to be quiet and likewise we never heard the owners, it was a very pleasant stay.

If you are going to Hilo (and you should) you have to stay here. Located just five mins. North of Hilo this place is awsome, nice., and very private suite with your own pool, gorgeous view of the ocean to watch sunrise, whales, surfers or just relax - you can walk to Honolii beach, drive to Volcanoes park, tour the Hamakua coast - this stop was a fantastic part of your trip.

This is an amazing property! The owners were so accommodating and pleasant. They were available if needed and even though they live on property it felt very private. The accommodations were clean and had everything we needed. Sleeping on comfortable king bed and sofa bed to the sounds of nature with the frogs, waves crashing on the shore and rain at times was incredible. The kids loved the pool and games. It was hard to leave and we will definitely book again when we come to the big island. Thanks again!

Mari, Owner of the Property greeted us upon arrival. She was such a pleasant and accommodating person.. The Property was as close to Heaven that I can imagine. The view of the Ocean and Night Sky from the pool lounge chairs are Fantastic! The 24 hour sound of the Ocean waves hitting the shoreline below the cliff was so relaxing. The View of the Ocean from inside the rental is unobstructed and picture perfect. The property is minutes away from town by car. The unit was extremely clean and well equipped.
If ever you wanted to know what it feels like to live in a Tropical Paradise high on a cliff overlooking the ocean you have to rent this property. I will definitely arrange my next trip to Hilo around the vacancy of this rental. Thank You Mari for sharing your Fantastic Home. Well Done!

Choosing this VRBO for two of my daughters, myself and my husband was the best choice we could have made! The place is exactly as described and the pictures are accurate. I have a terminal illness and one of my daughters had a life altering surgery recently and we wanted a comfortable place with a view, a pool and short walk to the beach where we could just relax... Mari's place more than delivered! My husband and I chose the sofa bed... it was comfortable enough and the reward of the beautiful sunrise from the wall of windows was icing on the cake. We saw so many whales from the yard! We barely saw or heard the homeowners and had the pool to ourselves. I loved the Hilo side of the island... so lush and laid back... not a tourist trap at all. I'd love to come back to this perfect little getaway!

Mari’s house was a ten and exactly what we were looking for. We loved walking with the neighbors to the beach, and the close proximity to everything in Hilo was awesome. I can’t tell you in words how much we loved the views! We saw whales and dolphins everyday from looking out on the ocean from Mari’s place! Her home was very comfortable for the two of us, and her kitchen was better organized and better stocked than any other VRBO we have previously stayed at. We highly recommend this jewel of Hilo!

We had a fantastic stay in Hilo! The ground floor studio apartment was a perfect place for exploring that side of the island, including the Volcano National Park and the tropical area north of Hilo. We also very much enjoyed some relaxing downtime on the beautiful terrace and garden, with spectacular views and a refreshing pool. A surf beach is right down the street but the house itself is on a very quiet neighborhood cul-de-sac. The apartment is very spacious with lots of light, and equipped with everything needed, as well as spotless clean!
With only the owners staying on this property and no other renters, it is very private and we felt like we had the place to ourselves.
We saw whales out on the water numerous times, which was a special treat!
This place was perfect for our family, truly a little piece of paradise.

We wanted a couple days in Hilo to explore the volcano, and this was a magic spot. It had everything we needed, plenty of space, beautiful yard and pool, and close to town and restaurants. Owners we’re great to deal with, very much appreciated! Absolutely will be back.

Overall, the property is very nice. The location is outstanding with awesome sunrise viewing and nice shady afternoon areas to lounge. At night, there were many sounds from frogs which Mari mentions in the property description. Some might find it a bit loud but we thought it made the location even feel a bit more removed from the town which was nice. Since the owners are upstairs, we could hear footsteps but it was not an issue at all. Wheelchair access might be an issue since the path leading to the lower level is narrow with a pretty good grade. All in all - would definitely stay there again!

This apartment is outstanding. Mari was extremely responsive and the apartment was fully stocked and even had a nice welcome basket. The location is incredible- right on the ocean and just down the street from a beach where there are always people surfing and swimming. You can walk there with your beach bag for the day, or stay at the property and enjoy the pool. Hilo was just a short drive away. The sofa bed was actually comfortable! We will be back to stay when we return to Hilo!

Our family enjoyed staying here. Mari and Christian were wonderful hosts and provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay with our teen girls. We had plenty of space for the 4 of us and a fully stocked kitchen with everything we needed to make meals from home. The location is great with a nice ocean breeze and you are just 10 minutes from Hilo. The neighborhood feels very safe and we felt comfortable and at home there.

This was a great place to stay with everything we needed and everything in the kitchen marked so that we knew where everything was. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was wonderful. The location was excellent and overall the property was very good. Ideal for a couple but can accommodate 4. Maybe not the best access for handicap, but otherwise a nice unit. Spacious with great views and a pool.. We would stay there again!

I highly recommend the apt in Hilo. It was very comfortable for 4 of us. You can’t beat the location, neighborhood and view! The nice surf beach is right beside it too. Communication was easy as well.

We loved this house and can’t wait to return. Perfect location for easy access into Hilo town or anything along the Hamakua Coast. We were here for 4th of July and the owner was so sweet so send fireworks information for our daughter!
We only had two nights in Hilo and that was not enough if you like to explore waterfalls, botanical gardens, beautiful coastline, and the east side beach parks. We had wonderful sunny weather!
