I recommend this condo for up to eight folks. Third floor loft requires use of main floor restroom, and shower in one of second floor bathrooms (entry in bedroom.) Community near condo has all you need close by. Snorkeling, beach 20 minutes walk. incredible views of ocean, good food, grocery store near by, pool on property, good restaurants close by. We would visit in the future.

Very clean condo with good sized bedrooms. Perfect size for our group of 7.
Great location close to several beaches, restaurants and shopping.
Property manager was helpful and quick to respond to questions while we were onsite.
The front door does take some finessing to unlock/open and the AC unit makes a regular buzzing sound that is noticeable when trying to sleep, but otherwise it was perfect.
We would definitely stay here again.

We had an amazing trip! We loved the location, short walk to ship wreck beach and Poipo beach. Every morning we loved watching the sunrise from the edge of the property and taking a walk down to poipo beach to see the turtles. Our teen girls loved having their own space upstairs in the loft. The condo is equipped with all that you need to make your stay easy and comfortable. We are sad to go and can’t wait to come back!

Upon arriving, the check in process was easy. However, the photos were quite deceiving. The condo is an older condo that has not been deep cleaned in quite some time. The condo is actually three stories on the second floor of the main building. The stairs inside are coming apart and very steep. It is in need of paint and the cupboards in the kitchen need to be scrubbed. The dishes needed to be washed before use. The view from the master was beautiful, but the curtains were rusty and dirty. The tv also had a big line going down the center of it. Lastly, we had to be extra careful on the lanai as the railing was deemed unstable. There was construction netting up with a warning. We were not told in advance that the condos were under construction. The construction made relaxing by the pool impossible.

We thoroughly enjoyed walking to Poipu Beach and Shipwreck Beach on a daily basis. Both were easy walking distance from the condo. Watching sunset from the property was wonderful as well.

We loved our stay here (Dec 2022). The space was clean. The balcony looks out onto the ocean where we could see whales and sea turtles. There is an outcropping of rocks where you can walk and there are dozens of sea turtles easily seen playing in the waves. The complex is located between Poipu Beach and Shipwreck Beach, both within a 15-minute walk or 5-minute drive. The apartment was well equipped and had space for all of us. The loft bedroom accommodated 4 teenagers well, and the AC unit kept it cool. The heat exchanger for the AC system is on the balcony and makes the balcony a little warmer and noisier (seems like all units have this), but we still enjoyed a lot of time on the balcony. Chad was very responsive and helpful. We would highly recommend this place!

We had planned for our week at the condo to be the perfect sisters’ reunion. And it would have been, if the owners had done due diligence with maintenance before we arrived. On day 2, we discovered that a loose shower faucet upstairs was leaking water into the kitchen light fixture downstairs (dripping on my sister’s head as she made dinner). The water had filled the kitchen fluorescent light fixture and was attracting a swarm of fruit flies. On day 3, the repair person emptied the light fixture – but couldn’t fix the upstairs shower faucet. On day 5, one of the bedroom air conditioning units started buzzing intermittently – too loud to sleep through during the hot nights. We were told this noise happens when the AC filters need cleaning, and to just turn it off. By our last night at the condo, all 3 bedroom AC units were buzzing – so loudly in the loft bedroom that I couldn’t sleep through it and had to spend the night on the downstairs couch. Which would have been fine, if the downstairs half-bath toilet hadn’t been running constantly during our week at the condo. That last night, I had to MacGyver the toilet tank, to get it to stop cycling every few minutes so I could sleep. My note to the owners is this: don't make your customers spend their week being technical support for your maintenance issues. A final note: you need a new Guest Memory book in the house; all pages in the existing book are filled. You would know this if you checked the details in between guest stays.

Although the storm that blew threw didn't allow us to spend much time in the water, the condo was wonderfully stocked with everything needed to hit the beach! The kitchen had everything necessary and the community BBQ was great too. There was enough room for everything to have some space, as well as, good size living/dining room for meals. I would highly recommend this condo, and Chad was very easy to work with - quick communication and very friendly. All in all it was a great family vacation!

We've stayed in a half-dozen different units at the Makahuena over the years and this was the best. The air-con was fantastic for the kids in the loft. The kitchen was stocked - definitely recommend coming to the condo before buying condiments as it's highly likely that you'll have everything you need. Tons of beach toys and snorkeling gear, great beach chairs. We'll stay here again without question. Great communication with Chad as well.

The unit is advertised as a unit that sleeps 6. This includes a loft with no attached bathroom. We were told that there was no AC after the fact and received a discount because of that, however the loft was a sweat box and the 2 adults staying in it had to trek down two flights of stairs to use a washroom. The unit itself is very dated and needs an overhaul. The tennis court has considerable cracks which made it a safety hazard. Was woken up on night 2 by a huge cockroach crawling across my chest. Seems like Makahuena has gone downhill in the past 6 years since our last stay.

We truly enjoyed our time in Kauai and at this property. It sits on a picturesque point above the ocean with a walking trail along the coast that is very cool. We loved the nearby beaches (shipwreck and pouipu) and could walk to several restaurants. The condo had a lot of amenities---fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Our extended family joined us for a sunset on the point and we saw turtles and under the full moon it was absolutely gorgeous. Property was clean and pool very nice. The manager was easy to deal with. It is obvious from the art, details, decor, and attention to detail that the owners love this condo and want everyone to feel comfortable---and we did. The only small issue we had was the AC as we were visiting at the height of summer and the unit (esp the second suite) could not fully cool. Overall would greatly recommend this property!

Awesome location and plenty of room for our family of 6 (2 adults 4 kids age 10-15). This place seriously has everything you could need - one of the best equipped kitchens of any Vrbos we’ve ever stayed in. Plenty of beach gear too including boogie boards beach chairs umbrella towels and cooler
Just a couple FYIs if you are considering
-No central AC - only portable units in the loft both bedrooms and living room. Great breezes w the windows open but the loft does get a little steamy. We would run it in the evening once we got back from exploring and usually shut it off at night and it was fine
-When you check in turn the key all the way to the left to open the door. We had to make a call to the property manager and were pretty embarrassed we couldn’t figure it out 🤦🏻♂️
-Beaches weren’t really easily walkable carrying all of our stuff. Not a huge problem as it’s a quick drive over to poipu or Sheraton beach

This was listed as a 3 bedroom with air conditioning. Technically, it was but….
The air conditioning wasn’t central air or even the wall mounted a/c’s frequently seen in tropical environments. They were free standing floor a/c units that were loud and inefficient. There were extension cords running all over the unit to “rig” these “a/c” units up.
The 3 rd “bedroom” was actually a sleeping loft with no door on it. Since hot air rises, it was stifling hot up there! The condo did have lots of supplies to use like beach chairs, towels, well stocked kitchen, etc.
It would be a great spot for a family with smaller children who may be on a budget as you would get a lot of “bang for your buck”. It just wasn’t the best fit for our family.

Our group of six (three generations) spent eight days in Poipu, Kauai. Our condo was in the Makahuena area and we could see and hear the ocean from it. The condo was extremely comfortable and it had many items in the kitchen, refrigerator, and bathrooms ready for us to use. We communicated easily with the owner Chad. We had no worries at all about the condo during our whole visit. We will definitely use Vrbo for our next vacation.

The condo was spacious, clean, and had all the beach and kitchen supplies needed. The view was great, better than depicted in the pictures. The only complaint was the AC- it’s not central, they are small units in each room. They do keep the rooms cool, but only when running, otherwise it’s muggy. The 2nd master never got cool even when running.
Overall a great experience, would stay again.

The location and layout of this property was ideal for a group of friends in town celebrating a friend's wedding - wonderful views, great/spacious pool and hot tub, and easy access to nearby beaches. Only issue is that while the listing says the unit is air conditioned, there are A/C units in each room and we could not operate the queen bedroom and loft's units at the same time without tripping a breaker. Recommend the owner solves this issue to make sure others are comfortable!

This was one of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect and the condo was terrific. It was described accurately, it was clean, and the parking was convenient and easy. The best part of the condo was how well stocked it was. There was everything(!!!) we needed for the beach, including 4 beach chairs, an umbrella, soft cooler, and even a wagon to drag it all with us. The kitchen was stocked with high quality pots and pans - something I almost never see. There were plenty of supplies like extra pillows and blankets, and the laundry room was very convenient and even came with soap. The view from the balcony was absolutely perfect and we did indeed see whales every morning. Kudos to the owner for such a well appointed and delightful place to stay. If I'm ever back in Kauai, there will be no other place I'd stay but here. Thanks for a wonderful week!!

We loved the two walkable beach/restaraunt hubs plus the pool, sunrise/sunset crowing areas and the bbq on site. The sand toys and baby gates/pack and play were a big added plus for us too

My teenage boys, wife and I loved this place. We ate every dine in meal on the lanai watching the waves roll in. The cross breeze thru the open windows of the house made it quite comfortable aided by the ceiling fans. Rarely used the a/c. The place was totally stocked...kitchen had everything for cooking. The owner had beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear, beach cooler, umbrella....everything. If you want a small community with a nice pool, hot tub, ocean views and peace/quiet this is the place. Poipu was a 10min walk from the house but we drove to carry all our gear and never had a problem finding parking. Would stay here again
