We slept amazing with the windows open and the sounds of the jungle around us. We stayed 3 nights while we explored the Hilo side of the Island and found the location of the home a good central point. Thank you!

I booked four nights and we only stayed one night. I missed that this property did not have a/c which was 100% my fault. However, the main issue I had staying more than one night was the owner wanted us to keep all the windows closed, with no a/c, due to recent break-ins in unoccupied properties in this area, when we were gone all day resulting in a very humid house to come home to after long hot days out exploring the island. If I would have known all that I would not have booked this house. It was a very beautiful quiet secluded area surrounded by tropical plants and trees. But be prepared to due a lot of driving because is off the beaten path. If we could have kept the windows open all day and night I probably would have stayed because the nights due cool off and the house is a comfortable temperature. Also after I informed the owner she did apologize and was going to try and get some of my money back! Which I appreciated since I had to stay somewhere else but I never heard anything either way. Just know if you book this property be prepared to drive father for everything thing… food, gas, excursions, etc and you’ll be coming home to a hot/humid house every day.

The sounds of summer, the songs of the Kokee, and the calm and welcoming house made our vacation a pleasure. We enjoyed the outdoor porch mornings and evenings. Aloha from our family.

August 2023
The house was great and a nice spot to relax for our second stop on the Big Island. I did not realize the 2018 lave flow had done so much damage to my favorite ocean spots making Pahoa no longer the destination it once was. The home and neighborhood were great though.

We enjoyed the property and the neighborhood. The area is beautiful and tropical. It was a very comfortable place to stay. The only downfall was the washing machine. We did a load of clothes, and oil from the washing machine stained all of the clothing that was washed. Other than this problem, everything else was wonderful!

We loved our stay at this location. Traffic from Hilo was a little tuff but the house was wonderful. Super quiet, beautiful back yard and great interior. Plenty to do around town and a great price. Mahalo.

This is a nice home to rent. Nice neighborhood, size and was pretty quiet for the most part. The roosters were funny chiming in every now and then. Loved the full kitchen and laundry. There is no ac/heat but I never felt I needed it with the windows open. Enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it.

Loved the Property. Very clean and private. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Easy arrival and departure with a Key safe. All the amenities you need and more. The 10min walk to the ocean cliffs for sunrise was amazing. 30min drive to Isaac Hale Park with incredible hot springs and black sand beach. 45 min drive to Hilo. 10 mins drive to Pahoa town with lots of shops and restaurants and a great grocery store market. Will absolutely come back. Thank you!

The property was fantastic and very well priced. It's in a quiet neighborhood and was perfect as a home base for exploring Big Island. The sheets were still a little damp at first, but that was the only issue - and easily remedied. The communication with the host was good too. I would love to book again next year and bring my parents!

We loved the location of house. Walking distance to the ocean and breath taking view. Beautiful sunrise. Jungle like road trip to see the 2018 devastation about 4 or 5 miles from house. Nice drive to Helo to see Rainbow waterfalls and many others. The National volcano park was about an hour away. It was perfect location for all the things we wanted to do. The small town of Pohoa also had a great variety of places to eat and shop. Was never disappointed. I would highly recommend staying here in Pohoa and the recommendations from neighbor and property manager were greatly appreciated and were the best. We will be coming back to stay in future.

Confortable house in a quiet and forested part of the Island. We loved it. A compost bin would have been appreciated, especially when you have to drop your rubbishes at the transfert station 10miles away. All the rest was excellent ! Highly recommended.

We loved this house! Too bad we can’t take it with us around the island! It was very roomy for 3 of us and had everything we needed - even a BBQ. The only downside was the mattress was a bit soft for our old backs.

This home was relaxing after a long day of exploring! It was so quiet and serene! It is a bit away from the airport and Hilo town but that doesn’t matter because there are shops right down the road. I’d come back and stay here if I’m planning a Hilo trip again! Mahalo!

We had a very nice stay at the property and loved coming back at night to the property after our days out. It is in a very quiet neighborhood with wonderful natural night-time sounds providing a great escape from city life. We would only recommend better light blocking shades on windows for sleeping in. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for the more private homelike vacation rental.

This was a great place to stay. We made good use of the kitchen, and the place had everything we needed. We could have used air conditioning, but there were several good fans available. Only down side was having to drive 5 miles to drop off the garbage, and the parking lot to drop off the recyclables was full of huge pot holes.

This property is the homiest vrbo I've stayed in. The home was clean and was equipped with everything needed to feel comfortable in a new place. Added bonus was all the beach equipment. Stellar location. Super nice neighbors. The best place to stay in Hawaii for a more authentic homey experience. We love love loved our stay here.

Great communication, easy access and spacious accommodations. Nice vacation home on the unique side of the big island. Fruit trees, birds, frogs and wild pigs out your doorstep. All very harmless yet a close to nature experience. Good wifi and access roads. Not a five star, but a reasonably clean home providing good value for the money.

We had a wonderful experience. Rochelle went out of her way ahead of our stay to ensure we had all the information we needed regarding our stay, and ensured that the item we accidentally left behind was returned, after contacting us about it. The area is a little far from where we wanted to explore, but it was a very easy drive to get to and from the house. It was only a few blocks from the coast, and we really enjoyed the views from there, walking and running along the coastline. The house was clean, with all the amenities we needed. We would definitely recommend staying here in the future.

Lovely property near the beach. Very friendly neighborhood with lots of beautiful jungle to enjoy. The house was very clean & had all the necessary amenities for cooking & enjoying an evening in. The location was a bit of a trek (15 mins) into Pahoa but very quiet & serene. The coqui frogs sung us to sleep every night which was lovely. We had a bit of confusion when we arrived finding the lockbox but with a bit of communication all was well. Overall it was a great home to stay while visiting our family. The only negatives I found were we had to dump our garbage in town which was challenging for me since I am disabled & the wild pigs at night would trip the lights & alarms which woke me up several times a night. Id definitely stay there again & would highly recommend it if your looking for a quiet, safe tropical getaway.

Kai Malie (the house name) is very conveniently located in the Southeastern of the island which is great for exploration activities around the Kilauea and Hilo. The house is very clean and cozy. There are tropical plants and trees around the house like avocados, bananas, and pineapples. It also locates in a very quiet and friendly neighborhood. Rochelle was very responsive and helpful with any of our questions and concerns during the stay.

If you are looking for somewhere to crash at the end of the night of exploring, this place is fine. There are several things in the house that need maintenance and the cleanliness wasn’t great. I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Is a nice house but is a little far away from the city! The bathtub was a little too old and slippery that my baby fell many times and im pregnant so it was kinda hard for me to get in! And to try not to fell but other than that rochelle was super nice.

We enjoyed our stay in Rochelle’s home. The call before we arrived was a nice surprise. The kids loved the animals (cats, chickens, frogs and lizards) and enjoyed this side of the island more than Kona (since we already have beaches in LA. Lol) it was really dark at night so we didn’t venture out much. It was a great lace to satay- far enough from the town of Hilo- but 45 minutes from everything we wanted to see (Umana Falls, Kaumana Caves, and Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park). I would recommend her home to anyone staying on the east side of the Island.

A nice, little home in the wilderness. Very quiet neighborhood. Owner is very thoughtful and provides all information in a timely manner. We didn't spend much time on the property, as we were out exploring the island, but it was equipped with everything we needed and we would definitely stay there again.
