We had a great stay at the Kona Dove during our honeymoon! The unit was exactly what we needed for a short 2 night stay - the AC unit was a god send! The most amazing part about this stay is the amazing location!! You are right in the center of Ali’i drive and there are dozens and dozens of restaurants right outside the main gate. We walked every where and it was so nice to be able to avoid traffic. Thank you for sharing your beautiful space with us!

Overall stay was great. Condo clean and conveniently located close to Ali’i Dr. Location of condo within little complex is also good; quiet at night and fairly private on balcony. Parking was not an issue, when a spot wasn’t available, I used parking spaces right off the street in front of main lobby. I didn’t see any starter shampoo/conditioner or beach accessories like some of the other places, but there was all basic amenities you would need, and the price point for rental was appropriate. Overall, I would recommend, great option!

We arrived early and waited 20 minutes for our room to be ready. The map of the grounds wasn't quite clear. We used the wrong stairway and as seniors were tuckered when we finally found our room. Needless to say, the stairway next to the unit (to the left of the door) would've provided easier access, had the instructions been clearer.
*From Lobby go down the steps, turn left, follow the path past the pool, make a right after the 1st building, then to the end. Stairway will lead you to the 3rd floor and the unit is the 1st door.*
After a full evening, feeling exhausted from 2 hr drive the stairs were a challenge.
In the morning, we went to breakfast and did some shopping. Got back to the room and our key didn’t work. Went to main desk to find that it was keyed for one night not 2. That got fixed immediately.
Our 2nd night was "stargazing tour" we didnt get back until midnight, with altitude change, the stairs were a challenge.
Lesson learned, as a senior LOOK for ground floor units to book or insure there is an elevator.
Communication with owner was excellent.

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights during a wedding weekend at the Royal Kona. To our delight the location was easily walkable. The room was spacious and A/C worked great. The lenai setting in the trees was perfect for our morning coffee. And Dave was very communicative - great host!

Lovely setting with beautiful mature gardens and trees on the grounds. Back gate on Ali'i Drive along the shoreline of Kailua Bay. Easy walk to an infinitude of restaurants and bars, or get on the road for trips up to the Kona Coast coffee farms, or into the bays along the Leeward Coast for kaying and swimming. Well appointed studio with everything my wife and I needed to relax after a day out.

You’re right in the heart of Kona. No need to drive anywhere. You’ll save money because parking in downtown Kona is expensive. Free parking onsite. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. Very quiet location. Kitchen has everything you need to make meals. Front desk staff is helpful. We will be back soon.

Excellent property for a couple or solo traveler. Easy to find and lovely grounds. Condo on third floor and a few stairs to climb up. Convenient to Ali’i Dr w/restaurants, shops, and beaches nearby. We parked the car and walked everywhere. Kitchenette has basics such as coffee pot, blender, small refrigerator, electric skillet, microwave, etc. we had some leftover spices and a cooler that could not go on plane so left in condo and hope the items will be useful for future guests. It was a pleasant stay and we would definitely return to the place should we find ourselves in Kona in the future.

Didn’t want to leave!! Walking distance to many businesses. Friendly town. Walking distance to ocean view but not ocean activities; drove to beaches to play and snorkel. Small kitchenette and refrigerator/freezer. Cooler was appreciated.

We enjoyed our stay at this location. Clean, compact studio condo with balcony, partial ocean views. Complex is clean and well-maintained. Location is great, directly across the street from the ocean (with no buildings on the ocean side of street) Walking distance to the main Ali'i Ave restaurants and shops. Far enough from the main street so that street noise is not a problem.
Renters should be aware that this is a third floor walk-up with no elevator. Not an issue for us, but be aware if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues. Parking can be problematic, as parking spaces are not assigned, and there are not enough spaces, so you may be required to find parking on the busy street in front of complex. (At least there is no charge for parking). The "kitchen" is tiny and really is just a small refrigerator basically in the bathroom, which was a little odd. (Reminded me of a Sienfeld episode!) There is one sink shared by bathroom and "kitchen" There is no stove/oven, but there is an electric skillet, coffee maker, etc provided. BBQ's are available in common area by the pool.
We look forward to staying here again on our next visit.

The condo itself is a bit tired’ and some ants were in the kitchenette.

Host was extremely responsive (both before staying and during our stay) and place was very clean. Had stayed at another unit in the Kona Islander the year prior which had a few additional things (couch indoors/on balcony), but even without this was a very nice location.
Only things that stuck out bringing the rating down slightly were the unit has pool access (and beach access) but did not provide beach towels to guests (so plan accordingly if you stay). The location also did not have paper towel on hand. Last thing, is less to do with the host/unit, but the employee working the check in/check out for the complex was extremely rude and when we asked if bags could be held, she tried to get $20 from us to do so (with no guarantees they would be safe - seems extremely sketchy). Once again, this is more on the complex, but still part of the rental process that was worth mentioning. Overall worth a stay here

The condo was very clean. The location is perfect. However the bed was horrible. Its old and slopes badly to oneside. It needs to be replaced. The air conditioner needs to be clean and possibly replaced as well. It makes a rattling noise and is very disruptive to sleep. We finally turned it off and tried to sleep with the doors open. I wasnt able to sleep much at all.

We had a lovely stay here at this little condo. It was handy for just a couple to stay in and it was literally across the street from the ocean and right downtown. It is on the third floor so people need to be aware that they need to climb stairs but as long as you are able to find basic stairs it isn't a problem. Parking is challenging as the lot isn't big enough for the amount of condos but there is parking on the side street that is just a short walk away and we always found parking there. The last day that we were there the hot water heater broke in our building but Dave immediately called us before we even knew as we were out and about and informed us and was super worried about it more than we were. That was very nice and we appreciated the heads up we just took cold showers for a day even though they had a spot for us to go in another building if we needed to take a hot shower, and it was refreshing actually. Would definitely stay here again!

Literally the only concern we had was cleanliness of the floors and tabletops. We walked in after long day travelling, removed our shoes and it was pretty apparent when ready for bed by the looks of the bottom or our socks. Other than that, it was located right where you would want to be in town, there were no surprises about the size of unit and had everything we needed within. It was also extremely affordable for our short stay. Would definitely consider booking again if returning to Kona. Thanks!

Let us start off with an observation that this condo is beautifully decorated, with all of the amenities that you would need to relax and enjoy yourself throughout your visit to the island. We've stayed in Dave's unit several times now during Ironman week and you can't beat the location - walk out the path and you are literally on Ali'i in the middle of everything. No need for a car, walk to plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops. The unit is clean, quiet, and comfortable.
The bathroom and kitchenette space is a little small butbit serves the purpose as long as you don't plan to prepare actual meals. We definitely recommend Dave's unit if you want something simple at a great location for good value.

My husband and I enjoyed our short stay and staying at the Kona Dove. The unit was clean, well decorated and the bed was comfortable to come back to after long days exploring. There are a few small suggestions for improvements if we could offer. Please include paper towels or separate kitchen dish towels for the kitchenette and providing extra garbage bags for the kitchen would be very helpful to maintaining the daily garbage removal. We also didn’t have any hand soap, only dish soap. Our stay was very relaxing and we appreciated having laundry close by in the building. We look forward to coming back to the Big Island one day to explore more, thank you!

I’ve been to Kona 5 times now, and this has been my favorite place. The location is perfect, there are 2 pathways that lead right to the main strip of restaurants, great parking lot and the pool was great. The condo itself was so cute. Very clean, the AC was awesome, and the kitchenette had the perfect amount of things. Dave was super fast at responding and was so nice! Definitely will be back and totally recommend.

It's on the far side of the complex, which is very good in terms of noise, but for some can be a chore to get to. It's got lots of personal touches all around making it quite unique, the best one being the mood light above the kitchen. Stair access only, so keep that in mind if you have any mobility issues. The complex rules prohibit early check-in including parking, which is a slight annoyance. As per description there's other parking options around, so it's nothing major. It's very close to the shore, shops and restaurants (and even 2 churches next door, if that matters to you).

This trip far exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in the door, we were amazed at the detail the owners put into making this condo feel like a home, and not just a stuffy motel.
There were cute signs telling us everything from what the switches worked (nightlight in the kitchen) to being patient for hot water (shower), and including all necessay cutlery, dishes, and Tupperware you could want.No detail was left out. We loved our mornings and evenings on the private balcony. It overlooks the grounds, and is a sight to behold! Walking the grounds at night became our ritual, and something we did each night. We met some other tenants and vacationers, and everyone was friendly and welcoming. We only stayed 4 nights, but we felt like it was truly a home, and we would love to go back again!

This was the third time that I stayed at Kona Islander and each time has been perfect. I need a place that is clean, safe and convenient and I don't need a lot of extras (that many places charge for, even if not used). Parking is the only issue -- I have found as long as I arrive by 3:00 p.m. and don't leave at night I can get a place!!

This was a great condo for a short term stay and if you wanted to eat out during your stay A quiet studio apartment with an partial ocean view for the lanai. The best part of this place was the location as it was right in the middle of the main strip with many restaurants within easy walking distance. Small bathroom and limited kitchen - but was what was advertised. It was very suitable, as we spent only a couple of days there before flying home and just wanted a clean comfortable place to sleep. Only down side was the lack of immediate parking within the condo unit area but Dave had provided excellent instructions on alternatives for parking.

If you find a spot- -don't leave! They don't have enough parking for all units. Front desk rarely has anyone there so you must call and wait for someone to appear. But all considered, this is a great unit with owner care showing.

As someone who is from Big Island, I know this property can have some rather sketchy characters to say the least (there was. A large fight by the pool during our stay that prompted several guests to call the HOA) - however, this unit was quiet, an extremely convenient location and suited all our needs. The signs in the room to explain use of items was very helpful (AC directions, shower directions, etc) everything was clean and I didn’t see one cockroach or any infestation that are rather common to the area. I felt safe in our unit. Thank you so much!

This particular unit/room, amongst hundreds, is on the outer edge and offers pretty views from the inconspicuous patio. Good bed and shower and fairly close to Kona sea walls and restaurants. Pretty vegetation in the hotel complex as you walk the grounds.

This apartment is located in a perfect location. Shops and restaurants on the main drive are walkable. Unit is well kept, everything worked as expected including air conditioning. Owner was very helpful in coordinating check in.
Note : it’s on the 3rd story with a lovely view but you do need to climb stairs with luggage (only noting in case others may be impacted).

This location is PRIME to walk around the Kona Inn Shopping Village. It goes down, at most, 1.5 miles each way from the condo. Parking is limited, so I don’t recommend driving at night. It’s on the third floor, and a corner room, so nice privacy. Highly recommend!

The condo was very clean and the photos in the VRBO profile were an accurate representation. Charmingly decorated and the balcony is lovely! Perfect for single or couple. Comprehensive and timely communication on all details from the hosts/owners also made everything easy and the front desk of the Kona Islander Inn was a breeze for check in and check out. Was concerned about potential parking issues based on other reviews of Kona Islander Inn rentals, but we had no issues finding parking.

The location of this condo is perfect if you like to explore a place on foot. You can walk to so many great restaurants, bars, beach and a great daily farmers' market. An historic, beautiful church is also right next door. This condo has the best location in the complex too. Private and quiet. We loved the outdoor grills. They are well maintained and while cooking, we met a great resident who shared local tips with us.
