The condo is amazing and this was our second time staying here. This condo has everything to make your trip go smoothly. For the beach - beach chairs, umbrella, body boards, snorkel items, cooler and even beach towels. It all saves you time so you can do more relaxing. The pool is ocean front for a great view while swimming and also fantastic to watch the sunset. You have your own parking spot. Also A/C in the condo. This condo has it all and is totally worth booking this place. You will love it and can see the ocean from your patio. We will def be back for another visit. Thanks so much!

This lovely condo is the perfect home base for exploring the Kona side of the Big Island. From the Kahuku gate of Volcanoes National Park and Papakolea to the South, and Pu’ukohola Heiau and Lapakahi State Park to the North, this is a great location. Very clean space, well equipped kitchen, and beautiful views. Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Hawai’i.

We enjoyed our 1st trip to Hawaii. As we explored the entire island, we easily drove to the volcano, Acaca falls, and black sand beach from our condo. We appreciated the snorkel gear along with the beach chairs, cooler, and umbrella for our beach days. Having a fully stocked kitchen w/ pots, coffee maker, stove and fridge helped with food expenses. Loved drinking our morning coffee and evening tea out on the lanai. The bed was comfortable too. Mahalo!

We love the location and the unit. Close to everything but a very chill complex. Really nice to have assigned parking space. Great to be able to walk next door to Green Flash to grab breakfast and enjoy it on the lanai. Loved that a cooler and ice packs in the freezer were provided as well as enough toilet paper and paper towels for our stay so we didn’t have to go buy those supplies. Basically we love everything about this rental and plan to stay here again in the future.

Wonderful place to base out of in Kona. This comfortable condo has amazing views and is central to all things Kona. Easy to bike or walk from and it has a parking space for the car. Everyone in the complex is super kind. There is a mini library, laundry, ocean access for taking in the incredible sunsets. The kitchen is well stocked. Check in and check out were a breeze. Would definitely come back next time we are on the big island!

One of the best places we have ever stayed! The kitchen was well equipped. The living/television room comfortable. The king bed a plus. The balcony view inviting. The pool refreshing, and it was relaxing listening to the waves. The one thing is, we wished there was a sandy beach at the property. There are sandy beaches nearby. Communication with the owners Doug and Evie was excellent, and prompt.

Everything was as listed. Was a good base for our trip. The condo was clean and we did enjoy a couple of sunsets from the pool and rocks down below. Was nice to have an assigned parking spot so we didn’t have to worry about parking availability. The on site laundry facility was useful. It did get hot at night so the window ac was appreciated. Good location right off the road but we couldn’t hear the road in the complex. Mahalo for the great place.

When I went to book with VRBO I had stated I wanted a place in Holualoa. My booking says Holualoa Village at the top of each response I got.
Kona Surf Condos are NOT in Holualoa. They are in Kona on the main road into town ( Ali’i Drive).
The unit was nice ( and had air conditioning which you need if you’re staying downtown). And the owner’s communications were great. He is a good host. But this property is definitely NOT in Holualoa.
And when VRBO went down several hours on 5/5 it was impossible to get into my account or reach anyone by phone to deal with issues.
I’d give the host 5 stars, but VRBO- 2 stars at best. They are the ones booking downtown Kona as Holualoa.

Only issue had nothing to do with the owners. The guy in the adjoining parking spot is super rude and parks way over the line. No need for that since the spaces are large enough for any vehicle.

We hd a wonderful stay for 6 nights. The pool is great for stargazing and sunsets. Bikes to rent just outside the property but also easily walkable to a main down town area with shops, restaurants, beach access. Short drive to the docks where we went on a whale watching cruise. I can't say enough about the location. The apartment itself was very clean and enough space for 2 of us, the kitchen was stocked w shopping bags, knives, plates, cups etc. all you need to cook. the Lanai provided chairs, coolers, snorkeling gear, boogey boards we used over the week and a beautiful view. The A/C worked well for overnight. We would definitely stay again as the bed was also super comfy! Thanks so much we had an amazing time

The condo was in a nice quiet complex with a partial view of the ocean. It was a little worn, but nice and clean. The laundry was conveniently located in the same building one floor down. We were happy enough with the condo.I have two very minor gripes. There is a window in the shower facing the front of the condo and anyone who wished to could walk up and look in. My husband thinks I'm silly, but it creeped me out a little.

We absolutely loved our stay in this condo, from the lockbox for the keys at the front door to the coolers on the lanai. It had everything we needed and extras that made our stay very comfortable. We started every morning with coffee out on the lanai looking for whales, watched the sunset from the pool and ended each day with drinks on the lanai.

We enjoyed our stay at #218 Kona Shores. It was clean and well appointed and the lanai had a nice partial ocean view. The owner provided beach chairs, umbrella, coolers and snorkels.
The kitchenette had a good selection of cooking utensils and necessary supplies. One thing we think would make the stay special would be coffee available on arrival. We arrived at the unit from Canada close to midnight and it would be so appreciated to have a coffee on the lanai in the morning without having to get in the car and go shopping. Just some packs of instant would be great!
The pool area is lovely and we watched the sunset from there most nights. We didn’t realize that the BBQ area did not have gas grills, only briquette, and this was the only real disappointment.
We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this place for 10 nights and found it to be the perfect condo and base for our stay on big island. The views from the lanai are really nice for enjoying breakfast or dinner. The condo is very quiet and close to Kona. With a rental car everything on the island is reachable within a reasonable amount of time. The condo has everything you need: A fully equiped kitchen, a spacious living room and a really large comfortable bed. Bathroom is basic and ok. There is also some beach equipment, which is handy.
Everything was just as advertised and very clean. Communication with Doug was easy and he always responded quickly and was helpful. We definitely would come here again. We loved our stay.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to the North Shore of Kauai and this was our first time to the Big Island. We absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back as we did not get around to seeing nearly as much as there is to offer. The unit was perfect. It was well stocked for us to make casual meals. The room was comfortable, clean and pleasant. Nice little screened in patio area in back with partial ocean view (enough to enjoy sipping tea/coffee). Bed was fine for me, perhaps a little firm for my wife but generally very comfortable. We didn't use the AC much but it worked like a champ. Big screen TV worked fine. Having 2 nice Tommy Bahama beach chairs and beach umbrella and snorkel gear was much appreciated. The pool was great, not big but large enough for me to swim laps each morning and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset from there one night.
The location was perfect. Easy drives into town for restaurant/bars/casual music. Easy drives to the many different beaches. We also did a day trip to Hilo side - drove completely around the island to Akaka Falls and Volcano National Park both of which were very cool.

Beautiful condominium designed well and not overdone! Amazing kitchen and living room combination! The lanai was lovely but the view was blocked by another building but definitely not a game changer! Bathroom was clean with large wall mirror and granite countertop!
Air conditioner is a wall/window size unit and per directions on the back of the door I turned it off when not in the unit. Unfortunately this made the room extremely hot and it had to work overtime to cool the condo down to 75ish. Kept bathroom door closed at all times as directed. Bed was beyond comfortable!!!!! Amazing sleep while I was there; thank you!!!!
The only downfall was the sliding doors leading out to the lanai. The doors close but they do not seal together which leaves a small gap between the doors. There is no way to lock them so be conscience of this to ensure they do close. The small gap can be seen so I put my best effort forward to try ensure the gap was as small as possible!
The kitchen floor appears to be lifting in some areas but it is not a slip hazard. I only noticed because some areas seem soft when I walked on them. I took shoes off while entering the unit to try and keep the floor free from debris.

The condo was clean and the kitchen well stocked. It was nice to see the ocean and feel the breeze even if more of a peek a boo view. Location was south of most of the Kona traffic and hubbub but still close enough for a quick drive into town. Easy access to main roads and highways to get to beaches and to drive around the island. We did not use the pool but it looked like a nice space right along a rocky shore that also provided a nice place to watch the sunsets. We would stay here again.

The condo is exactly as described. It is close to downtown. The pool is a great bonus. The ac is in the living room but sufficiently cools the bedroom by sliding the panels to center. My friend and I stayed for 7 nights, 8 days and couldn’t have been happier. The property is up to date, very clean and lots of extras around to support a full kitchen and some commonly forgotten toiletries in the bathroom. The property is close to Kona and we were able to walk a few times even though we had a rental car, the pool was close and clean and an excellent view right on the ocean. I had to work on my holiday (unfortunately), but the screened in lanai with an ocean view was spectacular! Would definitely stay here again.

We were very pleased with this property. It is great for a couple. It was clean, modern and well appointed with just what we needed. The bed was comfortable and the ocean view out the screened balcony was very nice. The location was perfect, out of the crowds, but walkable (1 mile) to the start of beach shopping. There is a small picturesque sandy beach a half mile toward the shopping area - a pleasant walk but has parking too. The pool area was also a great plus, right on the water. Evening sunsets were viewable from the pool or the balcony. We would definitely stay here again.

We had an excellent two-week stay at this condo at Kona Shores. Great location, easy 20-minute walk to downtown Kailua, and is served by the Kona Trolley if you don't want to walk. Nice kitchen and bathroom, well-equipped. Also provides beach towels, beach umbrella and chairs, snorkel gear, boogie boards, and a cooler for picnics. Comfy king-size bed, big clothes closet in the bathroom area.. Large TV and extensive cable channels. We especially loved the screened-in lanai with the huge sliding doors into the condo, which allowed us to keep the doors open all the time and made the condo feel much bigger. We also enjoyed the nice ocean breeze coming into the condo from the lanai. Really enjoyed eating on the lanai every day! Great parking spot right in front of the condo. Beautiful outdoor condo complex, well maintained, very nice swimming pool and picnic/BBQ area. Condo manager was always helpful.

Just got back from our Feb 2023 vacation where we stayed here. The process went smoothly from start to finish. Doug was a responsive and polite host, and we had no issues at all. The property was as advertised; it's relatively small, but it is comfortable, has new kitchen with a great stove. Beach chairs, boogie boards and a parasol were all provided which is a huge plus and saves toting stuff across the ocean. We had our own snorkel gear, but that was available too.
The location was absolutely exceptional. I think we'll be back!

This condo is in a quiet complex, very close to the water, with sea views, as advertised. The unit has a screened porch with ocean views (a great place for morning coffee) and the whole unit is well appointed. A big plus is all the ocean accessories available during your stay: beach chairs and towels, boogie boards, coolers, snorkeling gear. If you want lots to do within walking distance, you may want to look elsewhere, but you'll be driving to so many places on the Big Island anyway! We found it to be very affordable and convenient. And the pool is adjacent to the ocean!

I spent 3 weeks at Doug's condo for an extended vacation/remote work from Hawaii setup. I took a few days to stay at the Mauna Kea Resort and the Hilton for "resort" days as well.
Pros:
Location is very convenient to get to the Kona main town area, but is far enough out to not be caught in too much tourist traffic.
~5 minutes drive to the Kona restaurants, or 10 min bike ride (HiBike share station is directly across the complex entrance, I got a month pass for $25)
~ 20 minutes to Costco
~10 minutes to grocery
~2 hours to get to Volcanoes national park (go at night to see the glow!! Although the drive back is a little scary in the dark)
Price is unbeatable for the area and what you are getting
Small condo pool but pretty quiet and never packed during my stay, so perfect to quietly read a book and watch the waves.
Great wifi for my work
Full new kitchen and well stocked with supplies
Plenty of beach gear on the patio (chairs, umbrella, and snorkel gear, bring it everywhere!)
Laundry onsite but coin only (couldn't figure out the app payment and the complex management also had no clue)
Beautiful partial ocean view and can see the sunset everyday from the lanai or down by the pool/rocks.
Cons
Many reviews note the loud AC, and yes, it is loud, BUT there is AC which is hard to find everywhere on the island for a condo
The complex is a mix between vacationers and retirees who can be a bit ornery. One night I woke up around 10pm to a resident screaming across the complex to tell other people to be quiet... ahh the irony. Also had another elderly resident scold me for my non-reef safe sunscreen at the pool... oops (don't worry I was only using it by the pool).
Weird pool rules (No drinks or food at the pool...as I was warned walking towards the area by the complex manager)
Not a huge studio unit but ok for 1-2 people.
Only one giant spider in the shower, but as is Hawaii, and bug spray conveniently located under the sink
Kona is far from any great beaches. Magic sand beach is close by but always busy and is VERY small. I would recommend to drive 30-40 minutes up the coast to the north to Hapuna or beaches near there for a more traditional and fun beach experience.
No close sandy beaches walkable from the condo.
Overall no huge cons, would happily stay here again

Go to Costco for gas/snacks
Nearby Da poke shack is bomb
Bike over to happy hour at Huggos on the rocks or Foster's Kitchen

This studio apartment was a great place for my wife and I to come back and rest from all our adventures. It's a short distance from all the conveniences like shopping and the shoreline while never feeling particularly busy. Since we had access to a fridge, stove and microwave, all very clean and well maintained, we could plan our island adventures around what we wanted to do and not meal times. It was also very nice to always have a parking spot. All in all, it was a fantastic place to stay and would gladly do so again the next time we happen to be in Kona.

We enjoyed our stay. It was just big enough for us 2 and the breeze from the ocean kept the place cool in the mornings and evenings. It was close to the stores and restaurants and had a good view of sunset down by the pool. Having a reserved parking space was a plus! There isn’t a washer and dryer in the actual room but there is a laundry room right downstairs. The condo was loaded with extra stuff like coolers and swimming gear! First the good. Great location, super easy communication, very easy check in and departure. Free parking for one car, and pretty good view of the ocean through some other units. Had AC, full size fridge, king bed, and overall was a pretty quiet experience. We enjoyed our stay with a few small tweaks this would have been perfect. Don't get me wrong we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again, I don't want this to sound like a bad review because it is not, these are personal opinions and more good than bad honestly, but a few suggestions.
1. AC is in living room / window unit that is pretty loud and sits above TV. You have to turn the TV up pretty loud to hear it over the AC. You have to have the AC running on hot nights (it was pretty hot while we were staying) but the AC is on the opposite side of the unit from the bedroom so they have a small fan near the bed. That helped, but we were asked to keep the bathroom door shut while AC was running which makes the bathroom really hot when you want to take a shower or go to bathroom. So a nicer tower fan in the bedroom and possibly a fan for the bathroom would really help. Also the TV stand stuck out awkward in front of the window and my husband bashed his leg on it the first day we were there.
2. The bathroom door is like a shutter door so if someone needs to use it at night and they turn on the light - it lights up the bedroom while the other person is sleeping. Suggest a censor nightlight in bathroom maybe or change the door.
3. The pillows were terrible. My husband had the worst stiff neck each morning. They were flat cheap pillows. I suggest upgrading these to something nicer or if you book this stay, bring your own.
4. There were usb charger spots on one side of the bed but not the other. The condo was cute and very clean however there is a small gap under the front door and when we checked in there was a huge, (dead) cockroach behind the bed side table. I saw it while looking for somewhere to plug in my phone charger near the bed. Clearly the cleaners didn't find it because they didn't clean back there. I assume it crawled in under the front door. Weather stripping might solve this.

This was a wonderful place to stay (me and my fiancee). The description was very accurate and we had plenty of room between the two of us. The lanai was nice to have breakfast on and the host provided some snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, and coolers. The place was very clean and in an excellent area. Very close to us were some amazing restaurants on the water as well as the best snorkeling I've seen (go to Kahalu'u Bay!!). I'd definitely book this one again!

I loved the place, I enjoyed having breakfast seeing the beautiful view. My friend came in a flight earlier them mine, Doug was awesome helping her getting into the place. I will love to comeback with my husband, maybe next year.😉

The place is nice and clean. It has everything you may need in an apartment so if you feel like eating in, you have whatever you may need including spices!! It was awesome and we would definitely stay there again. Also the price was just right.
