Have stayed there 3 times. It’s way off the highway and quiet, except for the coqui frogs…

When you visit understand this is not the Ritz but you’re there to be with nature. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to world and this is the most peaceful place I’ve ever been. The hosts interacted with us when needed and our kids loved the donkeys and waterfall. The stars and sounds at night are like nothing we’ve ever experienced. Thank you to the host and owners for sharing your piece of heaven.

Awesome house and location! The property was exactly as described. Krystle and Alec were great hosts: helpful, but not intrusive. It's ultra-quiet and peaceful, but only 20 minutes from Hilo. This was our first (and likely only) trip to Hawaii. A family trip celebrating graduations/ anniversary/ birthdays/ Christmas, etc. We visited Akaka Falls, the Botanical Garden, Hilo, Kona, Puna, the Southernmost Point, VNP, Mauna Kea, Waimea, and other points. The house was a welcome base to come home to at night. Relaxing in the hot tub, swimming at their own private waterfall (the path isn't for the faint of heart) and enjoying the animals helped make the trip complete. We looked at many other potential properties when deciding where to stay. After a week of exploring the Big Island, I was happy to say we made the perfect choice. Thank you for a amazing week! -db

We really enjoyed staying here while in Hilo/Honamu. It's a lovely, comfortable unit with an outstanding view! Quite area, no close neighbors. The caretakers were helpful, but not intrusive and were off site most of the time. We would happily come back again!

My husband and I spent 3 marvelous weeks at the Akaka Farm home! We felt so comfortable with the well-appointed kitchen, spacious living room, a lanai and a deck. Spectacular starry nights in the hot tub; ocean and pastoral views; walks to Akaka Falls and easy trips to Hilo and Honokaa. Make sure you check out the delicious food at The Hive in Honomu and the Hakalau Farmer’s Market to eat the most delicious Thai food! The owner Andrea and the caretaker Krystle were responsive and helpful. (An extra bonus for me was Asscot the donkey and ‘his’ four sheep and the caretakers’ cats!) A great get-away!

This property sits on 14 acres atop a hill overlooking the ocean in Honomu! Absolutely spectacular! Andrea and Krystal were a delight and allowed us to check in early. The house is charming with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and has everything you can imagine your own house would have. Every morning was a gorgeous sunrise and sunsets at night. There are even resident goats, sheep and a donkey! I highly recommend this house for your vacation rental! It is only a twenty minute ride to Hilo. We will definitely rent this house again for another sistercation! Mahalo nui Loa!

This was our 3rd time staying at the property. The location on top of a mountain allows for 360 degrees of breathtaking views. We always enjoy our time at this house. We relax and bbq. We also enjoy the pets on the property - a few cats, a donkey, and a few sheep. The breezes and ceiling fans make the house very comfortable when it’s hot in the sun outside. There are no nearby neighbors so we feel nicely isolated. There are caretakers who stay in the other half of the house who are available if needed but we still feel a sense of privacy. The wifi and roku work well to keep us connected and entertained. The location is very close to Honomu’s main st which has bakery, coffee, breakfast and lunch if needed and Hilo is a short drive away which has everything you could want or need.

We loved staying on the East side of the Big Island, and the Akaka Farms house is the place to do it. This was our second visit to this beautiful location. It's far from your "touristy" Kona, more like old Hawaii at it's best. So relaxing!

I’ve stayed at vacation rentals around all around the world, and this place is hands down the best of them all. The description is accurate, however, they don’t tell you everything. The kitchen is not equipped with stuff from the local Goodwill. The pots and pans are very good quality. Blender, crock pot(s), rice cooker. I usually have to buy something I need in the kitchen and leave behind when I leave these places. Not here. I couldn’t come up with anything I needed that wasn’t already there. And I’m a bit of a foodie in the kitchen. If you’re looking for a place a bit off the beaten path, this is it. No raucous neighbors. Stellar view. Peaceful. Yet convenient. Hilo and all it’s conveniences is less than half an hour away. But a mini mart decently supplied with the basics is less than 15 minutes away. Be sure to stop in Honomu to get some jam. I had some shipped home, it was there when I arrived. And the locals selling baked goods, homemade ice cream and some crafts, only on Tuesday and Thursday, shouldn’t be missed. I had a problem with the advertised sunrise. Absolutely spectacular, to be sure. But the bed was so incredibly comfortable, it was hard to get up to see it. My daughter (age 22), not only managed to get out of bed before noon, but went out to the lower deck before sunrise and got a time lapse video of the sunrise from the hot tub. The hosts were great. Always nearby when you need them, and a wealth of great local info. Where to shop, where not to. Things to see, places not to bother with. And some nearby surprise gems that were not advertised, but were a highlight. I’m not gonna spill the beans, but this property is way more than expected. So stop surfing for places to stay and just book this place before someone else does. Like me. I would plan my vacation dates around when this place is available.

All of the previous glowing reviews have perfectly described this uniquely located Honomu home! The views are breathtaking...we were up early almost every morning to catch the spectacular ocean sunrise. We even had rainbows on the mauka side of the house several mornings. The main living area is spacious, the kitchen was well stocked and equipped, the whole house was immaculately clean and very comfortable for our group of 6 senior adults. We loved the absolute quiet and immersion in nature this home provides. We enjoyed walking to Akaka Falls, exploring the Hilo area and the Hamakua coast. Alec and Krystle, and their feline friends, were very welcoming and lovely hosts. They were easy to be in touch with and very responsive. (Thank you again for the fresh sugarcane juice!). Prior to our arrival, Andrea was absolutely wonderful about communication and answering questions. We all hope to return and spend time again here!

House was located in the country at the end of a long steep driveway. House was roomy and very well maintained for the six of us. So quiet, beds very comfortable, everything you need to cook a meal was available.

We’ve rented several vrbos throughout Hawaii - this stay was the best. The house, location, and the attention to detail were more than we hoped for. We relaxed, explored, and recharged. Thank you so much for a wonderful time - we’ll definitely be back!

This property is away from it all on the road up to Akaka Falls State Park. The gravel road from the gate to the driveway can be a little intimidating if you're driving a sedan, but after a couple of trips you become accustomed. The first to greet you will be a unique trio consisting of a donkey and 2 sheep. We met the nice young lady who lives on the property and she was very welcoming and gave us a quick overview of the house. The home sits on top of a hill and commands outstanding views all the way down to the ocean. There is ample outdoor space to relax, and we found the beds and interior spaces very clean and comfortable. All the supplies one could want are present in the house: silverware, soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, filtered water, you name it. The owner, Andrea, clearly has gone out of her way to make the property welcoming and convenient to its renters and this is what stands out most. Andrea was also very quick to respond to questions I had before we came to Hawaii. All in all, this property comes highly recommended for someone looking for a convenient base to explore Hilo and the beautiful Hamakua Coast.

This place was great. The description online perfectly matched up with what we arrived to and saw. The property was super cute. The main house was great. Clean, comfy and spacious. A small town is just down the hill and has a welcoming bakery. Hilo is also a short drive away. Would love to come back and stay again.

This home was nestled in the hills with panoramic views of farms and the sea. The home was very well stocked and had all we needed to cook meals and prepare picnics. It was a great location to explore the west and northern coasts and visit the volcano park. Be sure to visit the friendly goats nearby and get some delicious goat milk caramels. Wonderful stay!

What an amazing location! We chose this house as a creative retreat for a few days during our trip to the Big Island and couldn't have been happier. We looked out over the surrounding countryside and gazed over the ocean from our hilltop. We enjoyed working on the deck. The hot tub was perfect for breaks from our projects. And if that's not enough of a break, there's a small farm to cuddle with baby goats just a few minutes away, a wonderful bakery, and of course Akaka falls. Hilo was close enough to zip over for food or takeout as well. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Quiet, peaceful, warm, inviting and exactly as advertised. We were looking for an amazing off the beaten path place to stay in the Big Island and the farm did not disappoint in any way.

We stayed here for a few days in July/August of 2021 with my young family (4 boys). We had a wonderful time. The view is absolutely spectacular (when it isn't raining). The home fit my family comfortably with enough room to relax in the afternoon or share a meal together in the evening without getting in each others way. The hot tub was relaxing after a long day of hiking. We found the home very comfortable and easy to use. A few signs posted throughout the rooms helped remind us how things worked (trash is different that I am used to). My evenings were spent reading on the lanai enjoying the views or listening to the Coqui frogs sing at night. The location served as a great hub to explore the waterfalls of Hilo, downtown Honomu, and Wapio valley. A wonderful experience I would highly recommend.
